The Minister for Food and Agriculture has said even if the government fails to construct the project, the indigenes will do everything within their power to finish it.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, he acknowledged that, there have been setbacks but the Kwahuman has been helpless because it is a contract awarded by government.

“We are willing to construct the stadium and can we complete it within six months but because the contract has been given out under the Middle Belt, we haven’t been able to do much.

“But the agreement now is that it is on our land and the assurance is that even if government doesn’t do it, we[Kwahuman] will build the stadium ourselves,” he said.

However, they now remain resolute to continue from whichever level the government will need for their own interest.

“I have been a chairman of Kwahu United and every time there is a game, there is a renewed spirit so it will be in our interest to do it to promote football. I admit there were gaps and we took our eyes of the ball but now we are committed to do it,” he stated.

The project which is been supervised by the Middle Belt Development Authority (MDA) was estimated to cost GH¢27 million following a sod cutting in September 2020.

The facility was to be an 8,000-seater FIFA standard football stadium, with a multi-purpose court for more than 16 sporting disciplines, a tennis court, a gymnasium, a World Athletics standard tracks, hostels and a restaurant.

However, after four years, it is yet to see the light of day despite several demonstrations from residents to register their displeasure.

Nkawkaw MP speaks out about stadium converted into maize farm https://www.adomonline.com/nkawkaw-mp-speaks-out-about-stadium-converted-into-maize-farm/ Sat, 12 Aug 2023 11:10:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2282561 Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nkawkaw constituency, Joseph Frimpong, has broken his silence on the recent controversy surrounding the Nkawkaw sports stadium, which has been converted into a maize farm.

Last week, Adom News reported that the once-vibrant stadium has been left abandoned for years and repurposed for agricultural use, sparking widespread concerns among residents.

Addressing the issue, the MP acknowledged that the planting of maize on a portion of the stadium was not news to him, but he emphasized that the true news was the unfortunate abandonment of the stadium’s development project.

He revealed that his office had completed documentation with the Middle Belt Development Authority in a bid to revive the stadium and restore it to its former glory.

Mr Frimpong went on to highlight that the only remaining hurdle was securing financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance. He assured the people of Kwawu, particularly the supporters of the Okwawu United football club, that they should exercise patience as the necessary steps were being taken to expedite the process.

The MP expressed his commitment to seeing the project through to completion, reinstating the stadium’s significance as a hub for sports and community activities.

NPP supporters chase out Annoh-Dompreh over rejected Nkawkaw stadium [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/npp-supporters-chase-out-annoh-dompreh-over-rejected-nkawkaw-stadium-video/ Fri, 14 Jul 2023 12:33:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2272723

Some Nkawkaw supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) allegedly drove away Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and his entourage over an abandoned stadium project.

While addressing the party supporters on reasons why they should vote for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, his speech was abruptly cut off.

Unable to calm them down, Mr Annoh-Dompreh was forced to put the microphone down and leave the hall.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, the NPP polling station women organiser, Berikisu Saani, denied claims that party members hooted at Mr Annoh Dompreh.

According to her, there was no physical confrontation between party supporters and the Nsawam Adoagyiri Member of Parliament (MP).

“No one exchanged punches at the Paris hall. On Tuesday, Bawumia’s team headed by Annoh Dompreh came to visit us but there was no trading of blows. Annoh-Dompreh assured us that the Nkawkaw stadium will be built for us. After he finished addressing us some people interrupted him that he should stop the lies.”

She advised government and constituency leaders to ensure the stadium project is completed before the 2024 general election in order to secure the seat and peace in the constituency.

She condemned the act by the supporters stating that they should have erred their grievances in a better and more respectful manner.

She said MP for the constituency, Joseph Frimpong, has promised that the contractor will be on site latest by August 15, 2023.

The party executive commended the Akufo-Addo administration for constructing town roads and other developmental projects, adding that the stadium is the most important to the people.

Paul Deyen, the Electoral Party Coordinator of the NPP, reiterated that the youth only expressed their frustration without creating any chaotic scene.
