In an interview on Tuesday, December 16, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, stated that the party would not support any attempt to amend the Constitution to extend the presidential tenure, regardless of its parliamentary strength.

Kwetey described Ghana as a leading model of democratic transition in sub-Saharan Africa, noting that the country’s respect for constitutional limits continues to inspire other democracies across the region.

“First and foremost, you must appreciate that all over sub-Saharan Africa, if there is one country that has been able to provide the model that continues to be an inspiration in terms of democratic transition, it is Ghana,” he stated in an interview with Channel One TV.

He stressed that the NDC would never encourage actions that undermine the Constitution, adding that President Mahama had already made his position clear by shutting down discussions suggesting a third term.

“We at no point should ever encourage a situation where there is a disruption in our constitutional stipulations. The president has spoken about that and clearly he did well because he didn’t want to allow such conversations to continue as if he is entertaining it,” Kwetey said.

The NDC General Secretary further noted that although the party currently enjoys a strong parliamentary majority, it would not abuse that advantage to push through constitutional changes for personal or political gain.

“The party itself that has promised to ensure that we do what is right for the country has to ensure that, in this spirit of reset, even though we have such a huge majority in Parliament, we use it only to do what is good for the country and not try to change the Constitution because we are trying to make maybe one person happy,” he explained.

Reiterating the party’s position, Kwetey said, “We stand behind the president and say that there will be no third term.”

Supreme Court will dismiss Kpandai case; it lacks merit – Tanko Computer https://www.adomonline.com/supreme-court-will-dismiss-kpandai-case-it-lacks-merit-tanko-computer/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 19:25:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610665 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is confident that an application filed at the Supreme Court challenging a High Court decision on the Kpandai parliamentary seat will be dismissed.

Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the NDC, Rashid Tanko Computer, expressed the party’s confidence in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story, insisting that the case lacks merit.

“We are confident that tomorrow they will dismiss it. They have no business being at the Supreme Court. It has no basis, and we are very sure that the law will do justice by dismissing it. They [the NPP] have no case,” Mr Tanko stated.

The comments come ahead of the Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing on Tuesday of an application filed by Matthew Nyindam over the Kpandai parliamentary seat. Mr Nyindam is seeking to overturn a High Court judgement that annulled his 2024 election victory.

Responding to questions on whether all parties involved had been properly served with court processes, Mr Tanko disclosed that the NDC and its candidate, Daniel Wakpal, had not been officially notified as of Monday, December 15.

He added that he had personally contacted the party’s candidate, who confirmed that he was not aware of any service of process.

“I called him, and he said he is not aware and that he has not been served. So, well, let’s see what happens,” Mr Tanko added.

He further stated that since the NDC candidate has not been served, the hearing cannot happen.

The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to have significant implications for the ongoing dispute surrounding the Kpandai seat and the planned parliamentary rerun in the constituency, which is scheduled for December 30.

NDC is positioning John Mahama for a third term – Justin Kodua https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-is-positioning-john-mahama-for-a-third-term-justin-kodua/ Thu, 11 Dec 2025 20:12:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609577 The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is laying the groundwork for President John Mahama to pursue a third term in office.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kodua claimed that the recent removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo by the Mahama administration is part of a broader plan to “capture the judiciary” and eliminate any legal obstacles to a potential future Mahama bid.

He argued that the circumstances surrounding Justice Torkornoo’s dismissal were questionable, noting that petitions against her were not heard, yet she was removed from office.

According to Mr. Kodua, subsequent rulings in politically sensitive cases suggest bias, which he described as evidence of a coordinated effort by the NDC.

He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant, stressing that these developments pose a serious threat to democratic governance and the independence of the judiciary.

NDC Candidate files contempt application against EC Chair over delayed Kpandai re-run https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-candidate-files-contempt-application-against-ec-chair-over-delayed-kpandai-re-run/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 19:43:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609159 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Kpandai Constituency, Daniel Nsals Wakpal, has filed an application at the Tamale High Court seeking to have the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, cited for contempt for failing to conduct a rerun of the parliamentary election in the constituency.

The application, filed pursuant to Article 99 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1992 (PNDCL 284), concerns the disputed December 7, 2024 parliamentary election in Kpandai.

Mr. Wakpal is challenging the EC’s declaration of the New Patriotic Party’s Matthew Nyindam as Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.

In the motion for committal for contempt, filed under Order 50 Rule 1(2) of C.I. 47, counsel for the NDC candidate is asking the court to commit Madam Mensa for failing to comply with an earlier Tamale High Court directive ordering a rerun of the election.

The Tamale High Court is expected to hear the motion on December 23, 2025.

NDC to file contempt of court against EC over Kpandai re-run https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-to-file-contempt-of-court-against-ec-over-kpandai-re-run/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 19:33:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609145 Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has revealed that the party is preparing to file a contempt of court case against the Electoral Commission (EC) over what it describes as undue delay in announcing a date for the Kpandai parliamentary rerun.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Tanko questioned why the EC has yet to fix a date for the rerun despite a clear directive from the High Court.

He dismissed claims by the Minority that the NDC is being unfair to the incumbent MP, Matthew Nyindam, stressing that the party is simply following due process.

“The claim by the Minority that we are being unfair to Nyindam is incorrect. Gyakye Quayson was stripped of all his privileges as an MP and faced even worse circumstances. Since the court has ruled on this matter, nothing prevents Parliament from exercising its mandate. Parliament cannot alter the decision made by the High Court,” he stated.

Mr. Tanko Computer further indicated that the NDC will not allow the matter to be delayed any longer.

“We are currently in the process of filing a contempt of court action against the Electoral Commission. Why are they not providing a date for the election? The court has spoken, and we are prepared to move forward. We are not pursuing this because we want to amend the constitution, as the Minority claims,” he added.

Kpandai Rerun: NDC will win the seat hands down – Rashid Tanko Computer https://www.adomonline.com/kpandai-rerun-ndc-will-win-the-seat-hands-down-rashid-tanko-computer/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 19:31:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609137 Deputy Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, says the party is fully prepared for the upcoming rerun of the Kpandai Constituency parliamentary election and is confident of winning by a wide margin.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he dismissed claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the disputed parliamentary results, describing them as propaganda.

According to him, the NDC’s decision to challenge the results in court was aimed at ensuring “proper representation” for the people of Kpandai, insisting that the results declared in favour of incumbent MP Matthew Nyindam were flawed.

“We want proper representation of the people, that’s why we want the Kpandai seat. When things are not done right, it is within our right to follow the legal process to correct the wrong. We will go for the rerun in Kpandai,” he said.

Mr. Tanko Computer expressed strong confidence in the party’s chances, stating, “We are winning the seat hands down with a huge margin. The figure Nyindam won with is a fake figure. It’s a tainted vote.”

This is a planned action against me — Nyindam on Kpandai seat controversy https://www.adomonline.com/this-is-a-planned-action-against-me-nyindam-on-kpandai-seat-controversy/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 15:56:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609055 The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating a plan against him after his parliamentary seat was declared vacant.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Nyindam expressed frustration over the ongoing legal processes concerning the stay of execution filed by his lawyers. He said the court adjourned the matter to December 18, when a ruling will be delivered.

“The stay of execution has been scheduled to be heard in court. We want the law to be upheld. The lawyers made their submissions, but the judge said he will give a ruling on December 18. I don’t understand why I am being treated this way. I took a leave of absence from Parliament to explain my situation to my constituents. I was there when I received the news that my seat had been declared vacant,” he lamented.

Nyindam questioned the basis for the push for a rerun, arguing that election results cannot be canceled over what he describes as “unsubstantiated irregularities.”

He added, “I’ve come to realize that this is a planned action by the NDC against me. Where have you heard of election results being canceled due to unsubstantiated irregularities? I am also not being allowed to be heard in court. What wrong have I done?”

I’m not happy about this – Nyindam on NDC campaign moves in Kpandai https://www.adomonline.com/im-not-happy-about-this-nyindam-on-ndc-campaign-moves-in-kpandai/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 15:50:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609070 The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has expressed frustration over what he describes as early and aggressive campaigning by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of a potential rerun of the constituency’s parliamentary election.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Nyindam questioned why he should campaign when he believes he has done nothing wrong.

“I am not overly worried, but I am certainly not a happy man. I have done no wrong; I am merely a member of parliament. So why am I going through all this? The NDC has begun campaigning in the constituency, trying to sway the minds of the people. Why should I have to campaign? What crime have I committed?” he asked.

He alleged that the NDC has started campaigning in Kpandai to “influence the minds of the people,” describing their actions as an attempt to unseat him because the party is in power.

Nyindam, however, expressed confidence in his chances of victory should a rerun occur, but noted that the NDC bringing its “full machinery” to the constituency could put him at a disadvantage.

“My constituents are aware of what is happening, and I am confident that I will win, as long as the NDC does not deploy its full machinery, which could disadvantage me. If the law is to serve justice, it should do so fairly. Whether we go for a rerun will depend on my constituents and my party’s decision. What the NDC is doing is concerning; they seem intent on undermining me simply because they are in power,” he added.

NDC plot is to secure overwhelming Majority for constitutional amendments – Oppong Nkrumah https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-plot-is-to-secure-overwhelming-majority-for-constitutional-amendments-oppong-nkrumah/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 19:31:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2608703 The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is pursuing a deliberate strategy to secure an overwhelming parliamentary majority to push through constitutional amendments.

His comments come amid heightened tensions in Parliament after Minority MPs blocked Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga from responding to calls for the withdrawal of a letter declaring the Kpandai parliamentary seat vacant.

Parliamentary proceedings were briefly suspended as Minority MPs, dressed in black, chanted, banged tables, and disrupted the session.

The dispute arose following a December 4 letter from the Clerk of Parliament to Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa, declaring the Kpandai seat vacant after a High Court ruling. Minority MPs condemned the letter as “out of place” and a violation of due process.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, December 9, Oppong Nkrumah likened the situation to past public service shake-ups, alleging that similar “pre-advertised agendas” had been used to remove key officials, including the Chief Justice.

According to him, the same strategy is being deployed to target the Electoral Commission.

“There is a pre-advertised agenda to get rid of the EC Commissioner and her deputies. It is being rolled out, and they will say it is procedure,” he claimed.

He further asserted that the plan extends to securing a dominant NDC majority in Parliament to facilitate constitutional reforms.

“We are telling you… there is a pre-advertised agenda to ensure an overwhelming majority in this chamber for the purpose of constitutional amendments,” he said.

Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that the Minority will continue to resist any attempts to pressure Speaker Alban Bagbin into declaring the Kpandai seat vacant, noting that the Speaker has already ruled on the matter.

“No amount of pressure should be brought on him to make that declaration,” he stressed.

First year anniversary of NDC government; Ashanti Chairman calls for calm among party supporters https://www.adomonline.com/first-year-anniversary-of-ndc-government-ashanti-chairman-calls-for-calm-among-party-supporters/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 12:03:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2608602 Chairman of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrews, has revealed that party members continue to mount pressure on his office demanding appointments into government.

According to him, the pressure is justified since the party supporters did enough to secure an unprecedented thirty-three percent of votes for the party in the general election.

“This is the first time the Ashanti Region has been able to get about 34 percent in an election and seven MPs, so it is expected that people make demands,” he said.

Already, members of the Region have attained seventy-five national appointments into government, but the pressure for more continues to heighten.

To the Chairman, the party is committed to fulfilling promises made to members during the campaign period.

“They should remain calm and support the President. Not everyone can get an appointment, but we are telling those who have it to bring it down and enjoy it with everybody,” he added.

Delivering promises to Ashanti Region

The President, in the 2024 campaign, promised to complete stalled projects. The Krofrom Market is among the projects that the people of Kumasi have long awaited for its delivery.

Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, after taking up the role, has taken initial steps to complete the project, with the President, John Dramani Mahama, and his Vice, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, both pledging support for it.

According to the Regional Chairman, a quota of the common fund has been allocated to the project.

“The common fund allocation is not enough, but the Regional Minister and KMA Mayor are working to secure funding to complete it,” he added.

Already, plans are advanced to award the project to a new contractor. Aside from the Krofrom Market, a 24-hour economy market has been earmarked for all 43 district assemblies.

This is expected to open up the districts for business. The Chairman further indicated that six projects have already been awarded on contract in each district.

NDC executives hold crisis meeting over Walewale tensions https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-executives-hold-crisis-meeting-over-walewale-tensions/ Mon, 08 Dec 2025 07:08:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2607998 NDC regional executives were forced into an emergency meeting in Walewale on Sunday, December 7, 2025, as anger among supporters over alleged neglect in recent appointments reached a breaking point.

The North East Regional Minister and Regional Chairman met aggrieved members at the West Mamprusi Municipal Office after weeks of growing complaints from grassroots groups who say loyal activists are being sidelined in favour of people with little involvement in party work.

For months, NDC youth groups in Walewale have voiced frustration, especially over what they describe as unfair treatment of the Parliamentary Candidate, Abubakari Abdallah. Some had even threatened to boycott party activities if leadership failed to act.

The latest agitation targeted the Municipal Chief Executive. A planned Saturday press conference demanding his removal was cancelled after he reportedly stepped in personally to plead with organisers.

At Sunday’s meeting, emotions ran high as supporters detailed their grievances. They insisted that despite their hard work during the party’s campaigns, their loyalty has not been reflected in recent regional and district-level appointments.

Several accused the Regional Minister and Regional Chairman of deliberately excluding long-standing members from opportunities they believe should go to committed party workers.

North East Regional Minister Ibrahim Tia acknowledged the concerns and appealed for calm. He assured supporters that no loyal member would be intentionally overlooked and said mechanisms would be put in place to ensure fairness and wider consultation.

Regional Chairman Rauf Tanko also urged unity, warning that internal conflict weakens the party’s prospects in future elections.

He admitted that there may have been lapses in the appointment process and promised to engage regional and national leadership to revisit the concerns of Walewale supporters.

The meeting ended with the formation of a joint committee made up of regional executives and constituency representatives.

The committee is expected to investigate the complaints and present recommendations.

Some supporters who spoke after the meeting welcomed the engagement but stressed that they want concrete action, not assurances.

Others expressed frustration with the Minister’s recent public comments defending delays in appointments for the Parliamentary Candidate, the Communications Officer and other key constituency figures.

The NDC in the region hopes the crisis meeting will calm tensions and prevent deeper divisions as the party continues its reorganisation across constituencies.

I fear the NDC government may abandon the Accra–Kumasi Highway – Asenso-Boakye https://www.adomonline.com/i-fear-the-ndc-government-may-abandon-the-accrakumasi-highway-asenso-boakye/ Mon, 01 Dec 2025 19:05:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2605898 Former Roads and Highways Minister and MP for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has expressed fears that the Accra–Kumasi highway dualisation project may be abandoned by the current government, citing what he describes as a worrying historical pattern.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Asenso-Boakye disclosed that he wrote to President John Mahama on August 4, 2025, urging the government to continue the long-standing dualisation project initiated under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

“I wrote the letter on 4th August before the budget presentation… I have always been of the view that the Accra–Kumasi highway project President Kufuor started should continue. I fear that this government will abandon it because they abandoned it when they came to power after Kufuor,” he stated.

He argued that the highway remains a vital national corridor linking major destinations such as Kwahu, Koforidua and other towns, while supporting the transportation of food from the Afram Plains, where government also intends to construct a major bridge.

The Bantama MP further referenced recent comments by the Roads Minister indicating that government may shift its focus to a new expressway project rather than completing the ongoing dual carriageway.

“For me, the objective of the expressway they are proposing is the same as the objective of the ongoing dual carriageway. The only difference is that one is three lanes and the other is two,” he explained.

Asenso-Boakye stressed that abandoning the project would amount to a waste of national resources.

“If the NDC government will not abandon the Accra–Kumasi highway, then I have no problem. But my worst fears have always been that it will be abandoned,” he said.

He urged the government to complete the existing dualisation project before pursuing any new expressway plans.

Illegal mining has always existed, not just under NDC – Birim Central MCE [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/illegal-mining-has-always-existed-not-just-under-ndc-birim-central-mce-audio/ Fri, 28 Nov 2025 13:01:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2605119 Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Solomon Kusi Brako, has urged political leaders to be truthful when discussing galamsey, dismissing claims by the MP for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, that illegal mining only began under the NDC administration.

Speaking during a galamsey dialogue at the Akyem Oda lorry station with the Dwaso Nsem team, Mr. Brako described the claim that galamsey started under the NDC as misleading.

“There is no truth in the assertion that during the NPP time there was no galamsey,” he said. “Even under the NPP government, police arrested people involved in illegal mining. The illegality has always existed.”

He noted that the Assembly has consistently worked to ensure miners operate legally. “When miners are fined, we task them to go and do reclamation. It is not true that galamsey started in NDC time, as the MP claimed,” he said.

Mr. Brako explained that many miners were already operating when the NDC assumed office. “When questioned, they said they had permits. As an Assembly, we asked them to register so we could help them obtain the necessary documents to mine legally,” he added.

The MCE noted that the Assembly continues to collect and organize data on miners to ensure they operate through lawful channels. “We are organizing their data to make it easy to monitor them and guide them to use the right channels,” he said.

He also slammed the MP for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, for failing to address galamsey in his own constituency. “The MP has never condemned galamsey in his area. Instead, he accuses the NDC of the problem. That is not right,” he stated.

Defending his own integrity, Mr. Brako dismissed attempts to tarnish his image. “The agenda the MP is trying to use against me will not work because I am not corrupt. I have never used my office for corrupt acts,” he concluded.

Your fire continues to burn in a new generation; Ghana is better because you lived – NDC pays tribute to Nana Konadu https://www.adomonline.com/your-fire-continues-to-burn-in-a-new-generation-ghana-is-better-because-you-lived-ndc-pays-tribute-to-nana-konadu/ Fri, 28 Nov 2025 11:00:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604964 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paid tribute to the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a trailblazer whose life profoundly shaped Ghana’s history.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Fiifi Kwetey highlighted her bold leadership, particularly her advocacy for women and her founding of the 31 December Women’s Movement, which empowered women nationwide and nurtured community leadership.

He also noted her role in the passage of the Intestate Succession Law, widely known as the “Nana Konadu Law,” which protected widows from injustice. He hailed her as a foundational pillar of both the PNDC and NDC.

“We bow to honor a woman whose life changed the course of our nation. She was the embodiment of boldness, fighting especially for women whose voices had often been ignored. The founding of the 31 December Women’s Movement was one of the boldest acts of leadership in our national history. It became a nationwide transformation engine that empowered countless women, nurtured community leadership, and restored confidence to those who had once been invisible.

“She created opportunities where none existed. Her advocacy extended far beyond education; her boldness influenced the passage of the Intestate Succession Law, often referred to as the Nana Konadu Law. She stood between widows and injustice, fighting to ensure that no woman was left homeless or powerless in her darkest hour. She was a foundational pillar of both the PNDC and the NDC.”

Mr. Kwetey emphasized that her legacy lives on in every empowered girl, widow, and community leader across the country.

He added: “The history of the NDC cannot be told without honoring her name. She was not just a participant; she was a strong and indispensable pillar. She also became the first woman to contest for the presidency of Ghana. Her legacy lives on in every confident girl who walks into a classroom, every widow empowered by law and dignity, every woman who now knows she can lead, every community where early education has taken root, and every aspect of our political tradition that she helped build with her own hands.

“On behalf of the NDC, we thank you, Nana Konadu, for your service, courage, and the lives you uplifted, as well as the foundations you laid that can never be forgotten by the PNDC and NDC. Your fire continues to inspire a new generation unafraid to be bold. May your soul rest in perfect peace. Rest well, mother of the movement. Ghana is better because you lived.”

NDC will reclaim Kpandai seat in rerun – Eric Adjei https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-will-reclaim-kpandai-seat-in-rerun-eric-adjei/ Tue, 25 Nov 2025 10:36:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2603552 The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Adjei, has expressed strong confidence that the party will win the upcoming Kpandai parliamentary rerun ordered by the High Court.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Adjei stressed that the court’s decision must be respected, adding that the ruling provides an opportunity for the NDC to reclaim the seat.

“The law is the law, and the law has been applied. NDC will definitely win back the seat because our footprints are all over the constituency,” he said.

He also challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that the NDC’s influence in the area is so strong that even if an NDC member were allowed to contest in the NPP’s chairmanship race, “that person would easily win.”

Mr. Adjei argued that Ghanaians have become more politically aware due to economic hardships under the NPP administration, insisting that any by-election or rerun would favour the NDC.

“Ghanaians now understand the economy and how the NPP mismanaged it. Governance is about the people, and President John Mahama is a grassroots person here to make the country great again,” he stated.

The rerun follows a High Court ruling that annulled the 2024 parliamentary results in Kpandai after a petition challenging the outcome.

I’ll put my GUM aside and join NDC if… – Osofo Kyiri Abosom https://www.adomonline.com/ill-put-my-gum-aside-and-join-ndc-if-osofo-kyiri-abosom/ Wed, 19 Nov 2025 14:43:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601853 Founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrew, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has hinted at the possibility of abandoning his party to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should President John Mahama continue performing impressively in office.

In an interview, Osofo Kyiri Abosom praised the president’s leadership, describing Mahama’s early performance as promising. He revealed that while they exchanged messages, he has not yet paid the president a courtesy call since the 2024 elections.

“If President Mahama keeps up the good work in office, I would put my party, the Ghana Union Movement, aside and join the NDC. The goal is national development,” he stated.

He further suggested that if Mahama maintains his performance, Ghana could consider amending the constitution to allow him an additional four-year term.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom disclosed that he previously supported the NDC during the era of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings before forming his own political party, but he insists his priority remains national progress over partisan loyalty.

We will recover all stolen monies from NPP — NDC National Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/we-will-recover-all-stolen-monies-from-npp-ndc-national-chairman/ Fri, 14 Nov 2025 11:16:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600035 National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has stated that the current government will continue prosecuting corrupt former officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to recover state funds for national development.

Speaking during his thank-you tour in Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, he said President John Dramani Mahama is committed to restoring economic stability and strengthening the cedi.

He emphasized that the government will not relent in pursuing former appointees implicated in corruption.

“We will recover all stolen funds from the NPP and use them to develop the country,” he declared.

Addressing concerns from some NDC supporters who feel overlooked after the party’s electoral victory, Asiedu Nketia urged patience, noting that President Mahama is currently addressing challenges left behind by former President Nana Akufo-Addo and the previous NPP administration.

In his welcome remarks, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Joseph Antwi Awal said ongoing conflicts in the area have negatively affected school performance. He praised the joint security forces for maintaining peace in the municipality and surrounding communities.

The MCE also appealed to chiefs and residents to continue promoting unity to ensure sustained development. He further requested the construction of the Nkwanta–Dadiase and Nkwanta–Kue border roads to boost economic activities in the region.

PNP raises alarm over erosion of democracy under NDC administration https://www.adomonline.com/pnp-raises-alarm-over-erosion-of-democracy-under-ndc-administration/ Thu, 13 Nov 2025 09:17:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2599371 The People’s National Party (PNP) has expressed deep concern over what it describes as a steady erosion of Ghana’s democratic principles under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

In a statement signed by its Chairperson and Leader, Janet Asana Nabla, the PNP accused the government of undermining parliamentary independence, interfering in judicial affairs, and threatening freedom of expression.

The party alleged that the NDC majority in Parliament had unilaterally altered long-standing protocols regarding Ghana’s representation in ECOWAS, sidelining the Minority caucus.

It also criticized what it described as “judicial interference and gender discrimination” following the vetting of a new Chief Justice, while the incumbent, Justice Araba Esaba Torkornoo, contests her removal in court.

Additionally, the PNP raised concerns about a proposed Cybersecurity Bill, warning that it could be used to suppress dissent and monitor citizens’ online activities.

The party urged the NPP Minority in Parliament to resist what it termed undemocratic actions and called on international bodies, including the United Nations and ECOWAS, to take an active interest in Ghana’s “deteriorating democratic situation.”

Reaffirming its commitment to defending democracy, justice, and equality, the PNP called on Ghanaians and civil society to stand against what it described as “the creeping shadows of dictatorship.”

NDC marks 5th anniversary of late President Jerry John Rawlings https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-marks-5th-anniversary-of-late-president-jerry-john-rawlings/ Wed, 12 Nov 2025 08:50:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598951 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is commemorating the fifth anniversary of the passing of Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, the founding President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah, on Tuesday, November 12, 2025, the NDC paid tribute to the late leader, describing him as a visionary whose legacy remains deeply embedded in Ghana’s history.

“As the party, the nation, and his numerous admirers worldwide remember him for his sterling contributions to the development and welfare of our people, we in the NDC remain assured that nothing will erase his legacy from the history of Ghana,” the statement said.

The party also expressed sorrow over the recent passing of Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, noting that she, too, deserves full national honours in recognition of her service to the country.

“For us in the NDC, it has been five long years of mourning and sorrow. We shall always remember him,” the statement added.

“Comrade President, Chairman Rawlings, continue to rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord.”

Why NPP must rebrand like NDC – John Boadu reveals [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/why-npp-must-rebrand-like-ndc-john-boadu-reveals-listen/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 11:58:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598632 Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has stated the need to rebrand the party to restore its appeal among Ghanaians as he officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Boadu described his campaign as a “new initiative to rebrand the NPP.”

He noted that negative perceptions of the party have lingered and must be addressed.

“Some of these things are very negative. It’s the kind of image people have of the NPP, and we must rebrand properly; otherwise, people will continue seeing us in the same light,” he said.

Reflecting on electoral trends in tertiary institutions, he noted that the NDC has gained ground in recent years.

“Even in tertiary schools, the NDC now wins most elections, and I don’t understand why. Back when I was National Youth Organizer, the NPP won almost everywhere, including Ho Polytechnic,” he recalled.

According to Mr. Boadu, the NDC’s success is largely due to their rebranding efforts.

“They rebranded their party, even with the shade of their colours, their shirts, and all, and it made a huge difference. We must do more as a party, and we must do it well,” he said.

He added that the NPP has lost touch with key stakeholders, including members of the middle class, and must take steps to reconnect with them.

“We need a proper consultation to look at the party and make it attractive again. We have to regain the confidence of major stakeholders who have stood with us in the past,” he said.

NDC is the most attractive political party in Ghana – NEIP CEO https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-is-the-most-attractive-political-party-in-ghana-neip-ceo/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 19:45:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598431 The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Agyei, has described the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as currently the most attractive political party in Ghana.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Agyei asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing serious internal challenges, particularly regarding leadership.

“The problem the NPP has is that they don’t have a leader. Those who supported Dr. Bawumia then are now against him. These are inconsistencies within their party,” he said.

Mr. Agyei noted that, in contrast, the NDC has demonstrated unity, effective branding, and respect for the Ghanaian people.

“The NDC is the most attractive political party in the country today. The branding of the party is on point; we work hard and respect the people,” he added.

Galamsey defeated NDC before they started the fight – Miracles Aboagye https://www.adomonline.com/galamsey-defeated-ndc-before-they-started-the-fight-miracles-aboagye/ Sat, 08 Nov 2025 13:23:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597727 The Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has taken a swipe at the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) over what he describes as its failed approach to tackling illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

According to him, the NDC “lost the fight against galamsey even before it began,” and must stop the theatrics and confront the reality of the situation.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Mr. Aboagye said the government’s current strategy has proven ineffective and requires a complete review.

“It’s time for this government to pause, stop the theatrics, and admit the reality,” he said.

“We all make mistakes. Galamsey has defeated this NDC government before they even started the fight. The government is completely down when it comes to this fight.”

Mr. Aboagye argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, under President Akufo-Addo, made significant strides in addressing illegal mining after assuming office in 2017, including a 20-month ban on small-scale mining, the deployment of the military and police to mining areas, and the introduction of community mining schemes and river protection task forces.

He noted that those interventions initially yielded results, as river bodies cleared up within 20 months. However, the problem resurfaced shortly after the ban was lifted in late 2018.

“Immediately the ban was lifted, the criminals went back. Six months later, the whole problem started again,” he said.

Mr. Aboagye accused the NDC of politicising the issue by blaming government officials for the menace instead of proposing workable solutions.

“By 2021, galamseyers saw the NDC as a friend and the NPP as a foe. We can’t sit here and pretend,” he stated.

He further questioned what he called the NDC government’s lack of a clear policy or plan to tackle illegal mining nearly a year into its tenure.

“One year of your administration is almost gone. What is the NDC’s policy direction or blueprint to fight galamsey? None,” he said.

NDC mourns Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings in glowing tribute https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-mourns-nana-konadu-agyeman-rawlings-in-glowing-tribute/ Fri, 24 Oct 2025 06:57:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591906 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed deep sorrow following the death of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a woman of extraordinary influence whose contributions to Ghana’s political and social development will remain timeless.

In a statement issued by the party, the NDC celebrated Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings as a trailblazer in women’s empowerment**, noting that her leadership through the 31st December Women’s Movement transformed the lives of countless women and children across the country.

“Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings was a remarkable woman whose lifelong commitment to the empowerment of women and children has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history,” the party stated.

The NDC further highlighted her pivotal role as one of the founding figures of the party, helping to define its early principles and vision.

Although she later formed another political movement, the statement stressed that her contributions to the NDC’s story remain deeply respected.

Recalling a symbolic moment earlier in the year, the party noted that on June 22, 2025, during one of its anniversary commemorations, Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings was publicly acknowledged as the Founding Mother of the NDC, an act that reaffirmed the party’s enduring respect and gratitude for her legacy.

“That recognition, made while she was still with us, was a testament to the NDC’s appreciation of her immense role in shaping our history,” the statement added.

The NDC extended heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family, particularly her children and loved ones, praying for comfort during this period of grief.

“May the soul of Mrs. Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, Mr Kyere-Duah said the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) is poised to retain power, and they are not perturbed by who wins the NPP primary.

“For me, all five candidates on the ballot paper for NPP, we in the NDC are not so much interested in who wins, because whoever wins is definitely going to taste a very bitter defeat in 2028,” he claimed.

“It doesn’t matter whether it is Kennedy Agyapong, Bawumia, or whoever,” he added.

The NPP is scheduled to hold its flagbearer election on January 31 2026, with five candidates contesting.

The five are former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, and the former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the MP admitted that the anti-galamsey campaign is a difficult but necessary battle.

“I know that this galamsey fight will affect the NDC in the next elections because it’s not an easy battle. If you are fighting galamsey, you must be ready for the consequences,” he said.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show , Mr. Gyamfi argued that the measures the NDC is currently touting are not new, insisting they had already been implemented under the previous government.

“All the measures the NDC are claiming to use to solve galamsey were done by the previous government. Whatever they are doing now won’t yield any results,” he said.

He further accused the NDC of failing to honour its own promises, noting that the party pledged to end illegal mining activities in forest reserves within its first 120 days in office but has yet to deliver.

Poll ranks Haruna Iddrisu as leading NDC contender for 2028 elections https://www.adomonline.com/poll-ranks-haruna-iddrisu-as-leading-ndc-contender-for-2028-elections/ Mon, 29 Sep 2025 10:10:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2583482 A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics has positioned Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu as the frontrunner to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 general elections.

The poll shows Haruna leading with 30% support, ahead of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia at 24% and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson at 18%. Former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah followed with 10%, while North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa secured 8%.

Other potential aspirants, including Eric Opoku, Joshua Alabi, Armah-Kofi Buah, and Kwame Awuah-Darko, each polled 2%, with Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah at 1%. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije did not register significant support.

In alternative scenarios, Haruna’s dominance increased. In a three-way race excluding Ato Forson, he stretched his lead to 45%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 37% and Julius Debrah’s 18%. Among NDC supporters, his backing rose to 47%, with 48% support in key swing regions.

However, if Haruna is not in the race, the contest tightens significantly. Asiedu Nketia would lead with 40%, narrowly ahead of Ato Forson at 38%, while Julius Debrah held 22%. Among core NDC voters, the two front-runners are nearly tied—42% for Asiedu and 41% for Forson. Forson performed particularly well in swing regions, topping Asiedu with 47% to 38%.

The poll indicates that Haruna Iddrisu is currently the clear favourite, but his absence could trigger a fiercely competitive race between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson, potentially reshaping the NDC’s leadership contest ahead of the 2028 elections.

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has cautioned party members that he will not participate in the 2028 election campaign if President John Mahama does not deliver on his mandate.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Gbande said the party’s fortunes are closely tied to President Mahama’s performance, stressing that any failure would have serious consequences for the NDC.

“Anybody who thinks Mahama’s success is not their success is being delusional. If he fails, the NDC will go into opposition because I will not go for the campaign. My principles will not allow me to go and lie,” he declared.

He added that if President Mahama succeeds, the party will be on solid ground heading into 2028, irrespective of who becomes the flagbearer.

“If President Mahama succeeds, whoever will be our candidate, we will do everything and by every means ensure he becomes president,” he said.

Mr. Gbande also dismissed recent public exchanges among party members, including former MP Ras Mubarak, as distractions, insisting that the NDC is not run on social media.

He urged party leaders and ministers to engage directly with grassroots supporters rather than relying on media commentary from Accra.

“Policies will fail if we don’t meet the people on the ground. Farmers don’t understand our kind of English; they need practical engagement,” he noted.

The NDC deputy secretary emphasized the importance of focusing on delivering results under President Mahama, rather than linking internal party actions to individual ambitions.

Tell Ghanaians your plans to fight galamsey – Akosua Manu to NDC https://www.adomonline.com/tell-ghanaians-your-plans-to-fight-galamsey-akosua-manu-to-ndc/ Tue, 23 Sep 2025 11:27:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2581388 Special Aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Manu, has accused President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of double standards in their approach to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

According to her, while in opposition, Mr Mahama and his party consistently criticised the Akufo-Addo administration, accusing it of complicity and demanding radical action.

Yet, since assuming office in January 2025, the President has failed to outline a clear strategy to address the menace.

“Ghanaians deserve to know what exactly President Mahama plans to do about galamsey. In opposition, he made all the noise and criticised every intervention of the NPP. Today, the problem is worse, and yet, he and his appointees have gone silent,” Madam Manu said on Adom TV’s Badwam on Friday, September 19, 2025.

She further called out key NDC figures, including Communications Minister Sam George, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Kofi Armah Buah, and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, noting that they had previously demanded a state of emergency in mining areas but have since abandoned those calls.

“Today, these same individuals sit comfortably in government but have abandoned their calls. They owe the people of Ghana an apology,” she added.

The NPP 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Adentan contrasted the Mahama administration’s silence with what she described as the structured plan presented by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP’s 2024 manifesto.

She explained that the plan included comprehensive geological investigations to map gold deposits before exploration—a step she called “the sustainable and scientific way” to tackle galamsey.

“The NPP presented a structured and forward-looking solution. What has the NDC offered beyond rhetoric?” Madam Manu quizzed.

She urged President Mahama to move beyond political talk and present concrete solutions, stressing that the fight against galamsey is too critical to be reduced to partisan slogans.

We’re not serious as a political party if… – Asiedu Nketia  https://www.adomonline.com/were-not-serious-as-a-political-party-if-asiedu-nketia/ Fri, 19 Sep 2025 09:39:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2580490 The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has stated that it is premature for any member of the party to campaign to lead into the 2028 elections.

“If you campaign to replace President John Dramani Mahama when the government has not even attained a year in office and for that achieve its goals, then we are not serious as a political party,” he stated.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic on his ‘Thank You’ tour of the country, he said all those with presidential ambitions must concentrate on supporting President Mahama to achieve his agenda of resetting the economy and improving the lives of the citizenry.

Mr. Nketia called for unity and discipline to sustain the party’s momentum and avoid the kind of infighting that, in his view, is weakening the opposition.

Context

Mr Nketia’s ‘Thank You’ tour has stirred controversy in political circles, with some suggesting that the three-day programme was less about gratitude and more about positioning for a future presidential bid.

The September 17 to 19, 2025, tour across 16 constituencies in the Eastern Region has been officially marketed as a follow-up appreciation effort on behalf of the NDC.

Party officials say it was meant to recognise the contributions of executives, cadres, and grassroots organisers who worked tirelessly for the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections and assure the electorate that the NDC will keep to its promises.

Mr. Nketia said the party was reaching out to all the electorate, stressing it was too early for any member of the party to begin campaigning either for the party’s flagbearer position or for a national executive role.

Credibility

He recalled that in the run-up to the 2024 elections, he (Asiedu Nketiah) announced that the party was going to run a three-pronged campaign with President Mahama and the then running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, focusing on the presidential campaign at different levels while he led the campaign for parliamentary candidates.

He explained that each campaign was tailored to the needs of every constituency, which resulted in the party flipping over a number of seats.

Mr Asiedu Nketia said during the electioneering, he promised to visit the constituencies to thank them for the confidence reposed in the NDC, adding that he did not have to wait for the next elections.

“Credibility is important in politics. I don’t have to wait for the next elections to visit the constituencies to thank them and campaign at the same time,” he stated.

The NDC chairman pointed out that he was not an armchair chairman but someone who took the frontline in politics by actively campaigning.

“It is therefore important to reach out to not only our supporters but the electorate as well,” he stated.

Elections

As to when the party would go to the polls to elect its leaders and flag bearer, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the party was yet to take those decisions, stressing that “our preoccupation is to support President Mahama deliver on his promises.”

He emphasised that anyone campaigning to be the party’s flag bearer would be doing so in vain since the delegates to elect the flag bearer would change when the party began its internal elections.

He urged party members to remain calm and united as President Mahama’s administration gradually settled to create more opportunities for appointments and appealed for understanding as the leadership of the party was working to ensure all loyal members got the opportunity to serve.

Issuance of Ghana Card began under NDC in 2009 – NIA boss https://www.adomonline.com/issuance-of-ghana-card-began-under-ndc-in-2009-nia-boss/ Wed, 17 Sep 2025 19:42:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2579672 The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Wisdom Kwaku Deku, has disclosed that the first batch of Ghana Cards was issued in 2009 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Deku explained that by 2015, the government had entered into negotiations with private partners to expand the system to cover the entire population.

According to him, the delay in rolling out the new system was largely due to challenges with generating Personal Identification Numbers (PINs).

He noted that since cards had already been issued in 2009, it was necessary to maintain the same PINs for continuity.

“In 2015, the government started negotiations with private partners to expand the system to cover all Ghanaians. We completed the factory acceptance test, but the delay stemmed from obtaining the PINs. In 2009, we had already issued some cards to individuals in Ghana, who were actively using them.

“Therefore, when introducing a new vendor, we needed to avoid generating new PINs for those users. This was important because we wanted to maintain the same PINs while transitioning to a new system. However, we encountered issues because we were in debt, which meant we weren’t provided with the system’s algorithm needed for this process,” he said.

Mr Deku added that financial constraints and the requirement for the IMF to approve the system’s algorithm further contributed to the delay.

He stressed that both Ghanaians who received cards in 2009 and those with the current cards share the same PINs, highlighting the system’s continuity.

“It took considerable time for the IMF to review the system and obtain the algorithm to generate the PINs. As a result, individuals who received cards in 2009, as well as those who received current cards, have the same PIN,” he explained.

Speaking on Nhyira Fm’s morning show, Mr. Issifu said it was too early to chastise the government given that it had spent only nine months in office.

“Nine months is too short to chastise the NDC government on the galamsey fight,” he stressed.

He explained that some communities in the Ashanti Region have already seen improvements in their water bodies within a short period of the NDC administration.

“Some of our water bodies have regained their natural state in just a few months of NDC,” he said.

Touching on the local situation in Mampong, the MCE revealed that the late Mamponghene had earlier banned illegal mining in the area despite the abundance of gold deposits.

“There is plenty of gold in Mampong but the late Mamponghene banned galamsey in the area. We cannot win this fight if chiefs refuse to support government” noted the MCE.

Galamsey has remained one of Ghana’s most difficult challenges in natural resource management, threatening farmlands, forest reserves, and water bodies.

Successive governments have pledged to tackle the menace, but results have been mixed due to the involvement of powerful local and political interests.

Yakubu Issifu, however, expressed optimism that the current government’s policies could yield lasting results if they are given time and supported by traditional authorities, local assemblies, and the citizenry.

Abronye’s Arrest: NDC weaponising state security to intimidate dissenting voices – NPP https://www.adomonline.com/abronyes-arrest-ndc-weaponising-state-security-to-intimidate-dissenting-voices-npp/ Wed, 10 Sep 2025 10:31:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2576833 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned the arrest and detention of its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, describing it as part of a growing pattern of political harassment under the current government.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said Abronye’s arrest for allegedly insulting the Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, reflects a disturbing attempt to weaponise state security against dissenting voices.

The NPP accused the Mahama-led administration of prioritising the intimidation of opposition members over addressing pressing national security challenges, including recent communal clashes in Bawku, Nkwanta, and Gbeniyiri.

The party further argued that Ghana’s laws provide civil remedies for defamation rather than criminal prosecution, warning that the arrest risks reviving the “culture of silence” that ended with the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law in 2001.

“Equally, we are calling on President John Mahama and the NDC government to put an immediate stop to the continued weaponisation of state institutions against perceived opponents. The latest institution that is being weaponised by the government against political opponents is the guardian of the rule of law — the nation’s judiciary — after unlawfully removing the Chief Justice of the Republic on flimsy grounds,” the statement added.

NDC holds Tamale Central parliamentary primary today https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-holds-tamale-central-parliamentary-primary-today/ Sat, 06 Sep 2025 08:09:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2575559 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its parliamentary primary in the Tamale Central Constituency today, September 6, 2025.

The exercise precedes a by-election to be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, following the death of the Member of Parliament, Murtala Muhammed Ibrahim, in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, along with seven others.

Voting for the primary will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with four ballot boxes designated for specific electoral areas.

Delegates will be issued QR-code-enabled tags containing their details and will also be required to present an additional form of identification, such as a voter ID card, Ghana Card, or party membership card.

To ensure security and order, about 250 joint security officers will be deployed. Observers will be restricted to supporters’ stands unless specially accredited, while candidates may assign four agents per ballot box, though only one will be allowed to sign the final collation sheet.

The NDC further emphasized that delegates will not be permitted to take mobile phones into the voting booth, and candidates are barred from transporting delegates or campaigning at the centre.

NPP’s candidate imposition hurt their campaign – Bernard Bediako https://www.adomonline.com/npps-candidate-imposition-hurt-their-campaign-bernard-bediako/ Fri, 05 Sep 2025 18:38:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2575371 The Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has said the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to impose Solomon Kwame Asumadu as its candidate undermined the party’s campaign in the recently held by-election.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Bediako argued that sidelining other aspirants, including former MP Ama Sey, created internal disunity that weakened the NPP’s efforts.

He contrasted this with the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s approach, noting that his party was able to resolve internal challenges and present a united front to voters.

“In my opinion, the imposition of their candidate did not help them. They did not conduct primaries, which denied others the chance to contest. Their campaign focused on the late Ernest Kumi, while the people of Akwatia wanted solutions to pressing issues,” he said.

The by-election, held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, saw Mr. Bediako win with 18,199 votes (54.3%). His closest rival, Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the NPP, polled 15,235 votes, while Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) secured 82 votes.

It was a free-for-all under NPP – Mustapha Gbande on galamsey https://www.adomonline.com/it-was-a-free-for-all-under-npp-mustapha-gbande-on-galamsey/ Thu, 04 Sep 2025 19:37:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2575052 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being the chief architects behind illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Gbande alleged that the NPP, during its time in office, caused extensive environmental damage through unregulated mining activities and is now attempting to “whitewash” its record.

He maintained that the NDC government, barely eight months in power, has already taken decisive steps to regulate small-scale mining.

“The NPP has caused significant harm to Ghana in terms of galamsey, and the NDC is working to fix it. It’s a gradual process; we have only been in power for eight months. Our government has made decisive efforts to address the issue. The NDC’s approach to welfare for miners is that while you can mine, it must be under government supervision and in adherence to the laws. Under the NPP, it was a free-for-all, which led to the destruction of the country,” he said.

Mr. Gbande insisted that the NDC remains committed to restoring order in the mining sector and protecting the environment.

In a statement signed by its Regional Chairman, Stephen Ampem Darko-Koranteng, the GJA lauded the Electoral Commission for the “professional organisation and management of the electoral process.”

The Association also commended the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies for safeguarding journalists before, during, and after the polls.

The GJA pledged to continue promoting responsible journalism that upholds transparency, peace, and democratic consolidation.

The by-election was won by the NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo, who secured 18,199 votes. His closest contender, Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the NPP, garnered 15,235 votes, while Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Progressive Party (LPP) obtained 82 votes.

Akwatia by-election: NDC has no hand in vote buying – Tanko-Computer https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-by-election-ndc-has-no-hand-in-vote-buying-tanko-computer/ Wed, 03 Sep 2025 06:47:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2574264 The Deputy Director of Elections and Information Technology for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has dismissed allegations of vote buying in the Akwatia by-election, describing the claims as unfounded and inconsistent with the NDC’s track record.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, Mr. Tanko-Computer defended his party’s electoral conduct, insisting that inducement of voters has never been part of the NDC’s political strategy.

“I can speak for my party, the NDC, that we are not involved in these acts of vote buying. Indeed, it has not been part of us; it is not part of our processes. We hardly do that in any of our elections,” he stated.

He pointed to the party’s overwhelming victory in the 2024 general elections as proof that the NDC’s success was built on policies and public trust, not monetary influence.

“If we were to be involved in vote buying, do you think we would have won the 2024 election? Look at the massive victory Ghanaians gave us. Do we have that kind of money?” he asked.

Mr. Tanko-Computer noted that the NDC, having spent eight years in opposition prior to 2024, did not have the financial muscle to outspend the then-incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he accused of distributing “tons of money” during the campaign period.

“Being in opposition for eight years, we couldn’t have withstood the NPP with the thongs of money they were distributing all over. But we won the election because we had a superior message, and the people bought into it and voted massively for us,” he argued.

He further questioned why a party that had earned public trust and had been in office for only eight months, with visible improvements to show, would resort to inducement tactics.

“We have done enough for them. The people are living testimonies. They are telling us what they used to buy in the market, now the prices have slashed drastically. So, they have a lot more money in their pockets. They are enjoying these things, so why would we need to use money to induce them?” he said.

Turning the spotlight on the opposition, Mr. Tanko-Computer accused the NPP of perpetuating what he described as a long-standing culture of vote buying.

“It is our colleagues — that is their modus operandi. They have been doing it. And today, they haven’t changed. They are all over the place, dashing money left and right. They still have huge monies with them,” he alleged.

Tamale Central by-election: NPP withdrew because they don’t stand a chance – NDC https://www.adomonline.com/tamale-central-by-election-npp-withdrew-because-they-dont-stand-a-chance-ndc/ Tue, 02 Sep 2025 20:20:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2574212 General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has dismissed suggestions that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) pulled out of the Tamale Central by-election in good faith.

According to him, the opposition party has withdrawn because they do not stand a chance of winning the seat.

Speaking to the media during the Akwatia by-election on Tuesday, September 2, Mr. Kwetey said the NPP’s explanation was only a cover for its weak standing in the constituency.

“The truth is that NPP knows they have no chance in Tamale Central. They can bring Bawumia; he will lose miserably in Tamale Central. So that was just a pretense, taking advantage of the sympathy … it was a game they were playing,” he said.

His comments came in response to a question on whether by-elections should be maintained given their cost to the state, or whether the Constitution should be reviewed to allow a party to automatically replace its Member of Parliament if a seat becomes vacant.

“Constitutional reviews are things that we should always be open to having. After 32 years, you always want to bring changes, so there is nothing wrong with that.

“So that is a conversation NPP and NDC, we should be able to sit together and have an agreement upon, and once we do, we both will be able to push that in Parliament,” Mr. Kwetey explained.

He added that while the NPP’s decision in Tamale Central was only strategic, the situation in Akwatia is different, as the NDC believed the 2024 general election result was unfairly declared in favour of the NPP.

“Akwatia is a place we believed we won on December 7, but it was declared for them, so we believe the people of Akwatia needed an opportunity to make a final choice between the NDC and the NPP who won the seat in December,” he stressed.

At a meeting held at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Akwatia, the NPP refused to accept the NDC’s delegation, arguing that the party had sent constituency executives rather than national executives to sign the agreement.

NPP National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, accused the NDC of deliberately stalling the process, claiming the party was unwilling to fully commit to the peace declaration.

As a result, the anticipated signing ceremony facilitated by the Peace Council could not take place. Speaking after the aborted session, Peace Council Board member Sheikh Armeyaw Shaibu assured that the Council remains ready to mediate at any point before the polls.

The Akwatia by-election, already in the national spotlight, has been characterized by heated rhetoric and growing mistrust between the two main political parties.

Mr. Debrah urged constituents to translate their support into votes, stressing that a win for the NDC would strengthen the government’s partnership with Akwatia in advancing development projects.

NPP was down; NDC did nothing extraordinary to win 2024 polls – Dr Yamson https://www.adomonline.com/npp-was-down-ndc-did-nothing-extraordinary-to-win-2024-polls-dr-yamson/ Sat, 30 Aug 2025 16:42:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2573089 Former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Justice Yamson, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections largely because of its own failures rather than any extraordinary effort by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, widespread public discontent with the NPP’s governance created conditions that made it almost inevitable for the party to lose, regardless of the NDC’s campaign strategy.

Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile programme on Saturday, August 30, he noted that the election results were more of a protest against the ruling party than an endorsement of exceptional performance by the opposition.

“The NPP was already down; the NDC didn’t do anything extraordinary to win the 2024 polls,” Dr Yamson stated, adding, “Ghanaians had simply lost confidence in the government and voted for change.”

He urged both parties to draw the right lessons from the outcome, stressing that the NPP must reflect on the reasons behind its rejection, while the NDC should focus on delivering tangible results in government rather than assuming victory came from its own brilliance.

NDC warns NPP against ethnic and religious politics in flagbearer race https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-warns-npp-against-ethnic-and-religious-politics-in-flagbearer-race/ Sat, 30 Aug 2025 13:15:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2572982 The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tanko Computer, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against promoting ethnicity and religion in its flagbearer race, warning that such tactics could make the party unattractive to many Ghanaians.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 30, Mr. Tanko-Computer said politics should be about competence and ideas, not tribal or religious background.

“Ethnicity is not good for us in this country. Let’s focus on the candidates, what they are bringing to the table, not where they are coming from. Some have already started attacking the established candidate based on his background,” he said.

He cited the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills as an example, explaining that the NDC supported him despite initial setbacks because of his competence.

“We brought Prof. Atta Mills from the Central Region, a very large political landscape. In the 2000 elections, he lost; in 2004, his own people did not vote for him. But we persisted, and in 2008, he won massively. So let’s stop this ethnicity thing and focus on the strength of the person,” he added.

Mr. Tanko-Computer further questioned whether the NPP’s current rhetoric implied that people from certain regions, particularly the North, could never become president on the party’s ticket.

“Otherwise, what we are seeing now—are they trying to say anyone from the North cannot become president under the NPP? This kind of approach makes their party look unattractive to Northerners,” he said.

He also raised concerns about religion being introduced into politics, describing it as a dangerous path.

“Religion is not an issue in this country, but the NPP is hyping it. They are saying Zongo people voted against Bawumia in 2024, and therefore, he shouldn’t be considered again. They are bringing back that divisive narrative,” he warned.

According to him, the NDC has consistently advised the NPP to avoid such tactics.

“We warned them. The NDC as a political party warned them to stop it; it’s not good. The Christian-Muslim thing doesn’t work. Let’s focus on competence,” Mr. Computer said.

According to NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande, the team was at the Akyem Wenchi funeral grounds to sympathize with the bereaved family when sections of the crowd turned on them.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he explained that while some mourners warmly received the delegation, others began booing and allegedly attempted to physically attack them.

“The National Chairman, myself, the National Organiser, the Deputy Communications Officer, and Regional Executives were present. Unfortunately, the overwhelming reception given to our chairman provoked some individuals who then sought to launch an attack,” Gbande claimed.

He described the incident as a worrying sign of possible violence ahead of the Akwatia by-election slated for September 2, 2025.

Gbande, however, acknowledged that Eastern Regional NPP Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo, together with some traditional leaders, later approached the NDC delegation to apologize for the development.

A video of the confrontation has since circulated on social media.

Visibly angry women attempted to physically assault the NDC chairman and his security detail.

The one-week observance, themed My Hero Lives On, drew family members, friends, colleagues, political figures, and community members who gathered to mourn the late lawmaker.

Mr. Kumi passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, after a brief illness at the age of 40. He is survived by his wife and children.

He said a victory for the NDC in Akwatia would strengthen President John Mahama’s drive to reset Ghana.

Addressing supporters during a campaign engagement, Mr Ayariga explained that the NDC’s “Reset Agenda” goes beyond fixing the national economy to tackling local challenges such as youth unemployment, infrastructure development, and access to essential social services.

“President Mahama is resetting the country. We need you, the people of Akwatia, to join this effort by voting for the NDC candidate so that together, we can reset Akwatia as well,” he stated.

He further urged young voters to play an active role in the process, stressing that their participation would be vital in shaping the constituency’s future.

“The youth must take ownership of this election. Your vote will determine whether Akwatia has a future of opportunity and progress,” Mr Ayariga added.

Akwatia by-election: I was not in favour of NDC’s primaries – Baba Jamal https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-by-election-i-was-not-in-favour-of-ndcs-primaries-baba-jamal/ Thu, 28 Aug 2025 07:54:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2571930 Former Akwatia legislator, Baba Jamal, has argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should have stuck with its 2024 parliamentary candidate, Henry Boakye Yiadom, for the September 2 by-election rather than reopening nominations.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi News, he said keeping Mr. Yiadom, popularly known as Okoyo, would have provided continuity and avoided the internal divisions that often come with primaries.

“I was not in favour of any primaries. I believed we should have maintained the previous candidate and moved forward with him. But others felt differently, and in a democratic setup, the majority’s will prevails,” Baba Jamal noted.

He stressed, however, that the focus must now shift to fostering unity ahead of the by-election.

“As a party, we must consolidate our ranks. I don’t think we are doing badly. Both Asanka and Okoyo have been on platforms with our new candidate, which shows we are moving together.”

The NDC primary in Akwatia featured three contenders, including Mr. Yiadom, constituency secretary Bernard Bediako Baidoo, and Erasmus Koney Ali, widely called Asanka Poyooyo.

At the end of the contest, Mr. Baidoo emerged the winner and will lead the NDC against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Solomon Asumadu, who was acclaimed by majority support.
