The NDC lawmaker said the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections was largely built on a firm pledge to repair the deteriorating road network across the constituency. He added that failing to honour that commitment would betray the trust the electorate placed in the party.

“Road construction was a central campaign promise before the 2024 elections. We cannot go back to the people in 2028 without fulfilling it,” he stressed.

Mr. Azumah highlighted the frustration of residents who have endured years of neglect under the previous NPP administration, which failed to tar major roads in the district.

He noted that the poor state of roads has severely affected transportation for motorists and farmers, leading to post-harvest losses and reduced incomes, particularly in this cocoa-growing constituency.

“The entire district has not seen a single tarred road. The situation is unbearable for our people,” he lamented, warning that without urgent action, the party risks losing the seat in 2028.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show with Akwasi Nsiah, Mr. Azumah revealed that he recently visited the Minister for Roads and Highways with traditional leaders from the constituency to push for the projects. While the road works have been captured in the government’s budget, he stressed that mere announcements will not satisfy constituents.

“I am advocating strongly for my people, but if after all these efforts the roads are not constructed, I cannot in good conscience ask them to vote for me again,” he stated.

Mr. Azumah described the road issue as the most pressing concern of his constituents, insisting that visible construction is essential.

He emphasised that the NDC’s political future in Akrofuom hinges on delivering this promise, calling it a “make-or-break” matter ahead of the 2028 elections.

NPP MPs take over Speaker’s right-hand side with no NDC MPs in sight https://www.adomonline.com/npp-mps-take-over-speakers-right-hand-side-with-no-ndc-mps-in-sight/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 13:46:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484289 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) were the first to show up in Parliament on Monday, December 16, when the House reconvened after nearly two months of political deadlock.

The caucus has taken over the right-hand side of the Speaker, a side their National Democratic Congress (NDC) colleagues occupied during the last two meetings while insisting they were the majority.

First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu, speaking to journalists on Monday, December 16, after Parliament reconvened, insisted that the NPP MPs had taken their rightful place.

“The Eighth Parliament will continue as it started in 2021,” he said.

However, the Minority MPs were not present in Parliament at the time.

Mr. Osei-Owusu also stated that he does not expect some of his colleagues who were defeated in the just-ended election to show up, even with key government business on the agenda.

“We will sit where we have sat since 2021, today. Well, what else can you expect? Some people are demoralized. So, can I expect everybody to be here? It’s normal. From my experience in the last four parliaments, we hardly get full attendance, so I’ll not be surprised if we don’t get all members present.”

I was waiting for O.B. In her view, even the incumbent MP, O.B. Amoah, who chose not to seek re-election, knew she was a force to reckon with.

“Even O.B. Amoah knew I was a force to reckon with. I was waiting for him to contest again so that I could beat him, but since he didn’t, I knew the one who contested was his person, so I used the opportunity to defeat him,” she said.

Expressing her confidence in her win, Madam Dziwornu stated in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, that it can only be God.

“It was God. I was on an assignment to deliver my people, and I knew I would win right from the primaries. My message was consistent, and it was one vision for the future.”

Akuapem South has traditionally been a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but Dziwornu’s victory marks a significant shift.

She won with 15,438 votes, narrowly defeating Eric Yeboah Apeadu of the NPP, who garnered 15,304 votes.

Madam Dziwornu spoke about the confidence she had even before the election.

“I wasn’t scared because what was in me was bigger than what was in the world,” she said, stressing her strong resolve.

Reflecting on her win, she added, “I knew history was about to be made,” noting that her victory is a testament to the people’s faith in her leadership.

Going forward, she expressed her commitment to serving her constituents.

“I will do more for the people in this constituency, especially those who want to travel and those who need jobs in the military and police,” she promised.

Her victory marks a historic moment for the NDC, as they have successfully taken the Akuapem South seat from the NPP, breaking their long-standing dominance in the constituency.

It was a trap – NDC MP demands clarity on DRIP equipment [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/it-was-a-trap-ndc-mp-demands-clarity-on-drip-equipment-listen/ Fri, 02 Aug 2024 16:25:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2428925 Member of Parliament for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, is demanding accountability from the government regarding the newly launched District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) and the equipment.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Mr. Ibrahim claimed the programme was inherited from the NDC government in 2017.

According to him, the Minority is seeking clarity on the cost components of the DRIP.

“It was a trap. They lured us, and now they are running to campaign for Bawumia when this project came up. But they can’t fool us anymore” he said.

The NDC MPs have invoked the Right to Information Law to request more details on the procurement of the earthmoving equipment.

On Wednesday, July 31, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo unveiled the DRIP by commissioning over 2,000 pieces of essential equipment at the Black Star Square.

This project aims to enhance the country’s road networks and represents a significant step in the government’s efforts to decentralize development and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

The equipment will be distributed among the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), with additional financial commitments to ensure the program’s effectiveness.

But Mr. Ibrahim has asked the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and the Administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to provide the full cost of the construction equipment being distributed to various districts under DRIP.

Mr. Ibrahim also questioned the blame being placed on the Speaker, therefore expressing frustration that the report lacked necessary details.

“If they plan to recall, they should do their homework properly before proceeding. They should proceed with the recall, and we will make sure we come in our numbers” he said.

World Cup penalty gaffe: NDC MP apologizes to Asamoah Gyan https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-mp-apologizes-to-asamoah-gyan-for-accusing-him-of-intentionally-missing-wc-penalty/ Sat, 02 Mar 2024 19:11:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2363998 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has rendered a sincere apology to former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan.

This was after he alleged Gyan’s missed penalty against Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in 2010 was due to his political affiliation to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Ghana’s potential to become the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals was dashed when Gyan failed to convert the penalty.

Dafeamekpor’s comments come shortly after the ex-Black Stars captain accepted to serve on Dr Mahamadu Bawumia’s manifesto campaign team for the 2024 elections.

However, after receiving backlash for his comments made about Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Dafeamekpor has moved quickly to issue an apology to Gyan.

In a statement posted on X, Dafeamekpor stated, “The Black Stars and other National Teams have iconically rallied & carried our passions, dreams and aspirations for glory to the world. Upon reflection & calls from people like Kenpong, I retract & unreservedly apologize to Asamoah Gyan, for my comments.”

Gyan, who officially retired from football in June 2023, boasts a remarkable career, having scored a record 51 goals for Ghana.

Ministers’ approval: The NDC MP who left her father’s funeral to vote https://www.adomonline.com/ministers-approval-the-ndc-mp-who-left-her-fathers-funeral-to-vote/ Sun, 26 Mar 2023 11:52:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2232572 Friday’s showdown in Parliament saw legislators battle it out to uphold the positions of their respective sides.

The Majority had argued for President Akufo-Addo’s new appointees to be approved while the Minority fought back sighting a bloated government was not favourable for an economy in turmoil.

Though the secret ballot went the way of the Majority, fresh information suggests some NDC Members of Parliament made hard choices just to stack up the numbers in the House.

The House business for the day had coincided with a very important moment on the calendar of La Dadekotopon legislator, Rita Odoley Sowah.

According to NDC member Dzifa Gunu, the MP had lost her father with the final funeral rites slated for this same week.

On Friday, the House had tabled the crucial debate on the nominees as part of its line-up.

However, due to the exigency of the proceedings, Rita “spent less than three hours at the church service”.

“Friday, the final day of your late dad’s funeral, you spent less than 3 hours at the church service, you couldn’t stay to even watch his coffin being carried to the cemetery, you left to Parliament House,” Dzifa wrote.

But after hours of disagreements, a brief suspension, and a secret ballot, Parliament finally approved President Akufo-Addo’s six ministerial nominees.

This means Rita’s sacrifice on the day failed to yield the desired results.

Adansi Asokwa MP, Kobina Tahir Hammond was confirmed to head the Ministry of Trade and Industry, with Dr Stephen Amoah appointed as Deputy. Abetifi MP, Brian Acheampong was approved as Agriculture Minister and Karaga MP, Mohammed Amin Adam, was okayed as Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.

Stephen Asamoah Boateng is the new Minister for Religious and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Osei Bonsu Amoah heads to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development as Minister of State.

The outcome of the Parliamentary proceeding has left a sour taste in the mouth of many NDC members.

NDC MP charges new executives to capture all parliamentary seats in 2024 https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-mp-charges-new-executives-to-capture-all-parliamentary-seats-in-2024/ Mon, 14 Nov 2022 17:04:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2183399 The newly elected executives of the National democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region are being urged to work hard and capture all 15 parliamentary seats in the region.

This is according to the Upper East regional NDC Caucus in Parliament.

Speaking at the Regional Delegates Congress at the Bolgatanga Technical University, the leader of the Caucus and MP for Builsa North, James Agalga, reiterated the need for the people who have been elected to competently manage the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The Builsa North MP said the ultimate goal of the NDC’s internal election is for the new executives, together with the party, to become victorious in the 2024 general election.

Mr Agalga noted that their caucus is ready to work tirelessly with new executives to retain all 14 seats and take the Binduri seat which is currently occupied by the governing NPP.

“What this exercise is intended to achieve is to select leaders to lead the charge to victory come 2024. Our appeal to you is that, people who would emerge victorious should not jubilate too much, you have to form unity with those who would lose.

“The message we have for you is that, as for us, the parliamentary caucus, we are ready and we have never relented on our efforts to continue supporting our party. In such a way that, come 2024 we retain all the 14 seats that we won and to recapture the Binduri seat,” he said.

The Caucus Leader, who is also the Ranking Member on Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, believes the hardship Ghanaians are going through is due to corruption and mismanagement of the Akufo-Addo led government the reason NDC must rescue the country.

Some of the NPP MPs were captured on camera sleeping on Friday, January 15, 2021, after they trooped to the Chamber to occupy the Majority seats.

Though the first proceeding for the 8th Parliament was expected to resume at 10:am, the House had already recorded a huge number as at 8:am out of which many were from the NPP Caucus.

Taking to Facebook, Madam Sowah posted a photo enjoying breakfast with her better-half, stating the House resumes at 10:am and not 4:am.

She added: “There is no point in fighting when the real battle was long gone.”

Meanwhile, scores of Ghanaians on social media described the act as a once bitten twice shy scenario.

This is because people did not understand why a former NDC MP could make public statements to praise the positive impact of an opposing party’s policies.

“When I was in Parliament, though both NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) or majority and minority disagree on many issues when it comes to issues of national development, we build consensus in the interest of Ghana.

“Why should you have a problem with a testimony from a former NDC MP who is benefiting from NPP’s good intervention?” he quizzed.

He said the problem of Ghana is dishonesty and hypocrisy, stating that but for the government’s support through the PFJ, life would have been difficult for him after Parliament.

Speaking at the commissioning of a 100, 000 capacity fertiliser and improved seed warehouse constructed by a private Agro Chemicals dealer RansBoat Company Ltd, Mr Pandagu called on Ghanaians to eschew partisan politics and support initiatives that alleviate the plight of people.

“Both NDC and NPP are beneficiaries of subsidised fertilisers and improved seeds. It has improved the yields of farmers and I have benefited tremendously, I’m a Muslim so if I stand anywhere and give false testimony about it, Allah will punish me,” he said.

He urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the intervention and enter into Agriculture.

General Manager of RansBoat Company Ltd,  dealers in agro-chemicals and poultry farms, Teddy Adei, said their supply chain has bridged the non-access of farm inputs in the rural areas which impeded high productivity.

According to him, RansBoat constructed the 100, 000 capacity warehouse to stock inputs in excess and avoid the acute shortage of farm inputs that bedeviled farming in rural Ghana.

The fertiliser warehouse, which is the biggest private warehouse so far, aims to ensure continued supply of farm inputs to farmers.

RansBoat Company Ltd called on the government to increase its supply allocation under PFJ since they have the capacity to supply the whole country on time.

Currently, the supply of farm inputs under the Planting for Food and Jobs has been allocated to private agrochemicals dealers.

Many farmers still complain of acute shortage and dealer in the supply of inputs but RansBoat says it has the capacity to supply almost the entire country on time if the government would increase its allocation.

Mr Adei added that RansBoat currently has 64, 000 layers and intends to start 100, 000  broilers by next year.

RansBoat wants to produce 120, 000 Metric tones of processed poultry annually to reduce the importation of poultry into Ghana.

Mr Adei wants the government to reduce taxes on the importation of battery cage equipment to enable local poultry farmers mechanise to augment Government’s Rearing for Food and Jobs.

Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, commended RansBoat for its dedication in the Agric sector.

He said the 100, 000 capacity fertiliser warehouse would help ensure constant supply of inputs to farmers and promote the government’s aim of making farm inputs available and accessible to all.

He, however, expressed worry over the continuous activities of illegal miners and sand winners in the Eastern Region which possess threat to the success of the Planting for Food and Jobs.

He said this illegal miners enter into farms at night and cause devastation to farms.

He said most of such gangs are armed to the teeth.

According to Mr Darfour, the Regional Security Council is working to nip such activities that inhibit the progress of PFJ in the bud.

According to Peter Kwakye Ackah, President Nana Akufo-Addo should have allowed the referendum to take place as scheduled to garner the views of Ghanaians.

“I listened to the press conference of the president on the referendum and I felt sad because if he wanted a consensus before the referendum, then there would be no need for the election because we all can’t go for one side; so definitely there will be  ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ votes,” he said.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Monday, the legislator said the referendum would have been a test case on the popularity of the Akufo-Addo-led government and their achievements.

“The withdrawal is a pity and the success or failure of the referendum would have determined if president Akufo-Addo still has touch with Ghanaians after his massive one million votes difference in the 2016 elections. It would have also been a prelude for the 2020 elections,” he argued.

To Mr Ackah, the withdrawal clearly shows the president has lost the support of Ghanaians.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Upper West Akyem in the Eastern Region has uncovered a plot by some constituents to assassinate him.

Hon. Derek Ohene Bekoe Asifo said the assassination plot was hatched by some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who think he is being “a thorn in their flesh”.

His only luck was a whistleblower who was part of those who allegedly mastered the plot.

The Upper West Akyem MP quoted the source that leaked the assassination plot as saying that Bekoe’s elimination must be with “immediate effect” for a by-election in Upper West Akim.

“If you feel you want to beat me, meet me in elections and beat me; don’t eliminate me. What even shows that when you kill me, you will win the by-election” he quizzed.

Hon. Ohene Bekoe was grateful to God for exposing the wicked people around him.

Hot audio: Akufo-Addo can appoint 200 ministers, I will support him – NDC MP https://www.adomonline.com/hot-audio-akufo-addo-can-appoint-200-ministers-will-support-ndc-mp/ Tue, 21 Mar 2017 19:25:46 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=39121 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Yunyoo in the Northern region has given thumbs up to President Akufo-Addo for appointing 110 ministers.

Hon. Joseph Naabu Bipoba said the President has the mandate of the people to deliver thus “if appointing 200 ministers will get the job done, so be it”.

Huge public outcry greeted President Akufo-Addo appointment of 110 ministers to help him fulfill the plethora of electioneering promises to Ghanaians.

Out of the total 110, 20 are Regional Ministers and their Deputies, 40 ministers for various ministries, with 50 deputies.

By this number, the Nana Addo-led administration would have the highest list of ministers and deputies to serve in any government since the start of the fourth Republic.

Based on this backdrop, critics believe the large number of ministers will be a drain on the state purse – a position government has vehemently disagreed with.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Hon. Naabu said the appointment of 110 ministers by President Akufo-Addo is a necessary evil.

He indicated that the brouhaha over the number of ministers and deputies will mean nothing when they help revive the economy to its full potential.

Hon. Joseph Naabu Bipoba is convinced President Akufo-Addo will be justified by the end results of his administration.
