The supporters on Thursday hurled stones and other objects at each over the recent launch of DRIP equipment by President Nana Akufo-Addo which provided road materials and vehicles to each constituency.

Both parties reportedly urged their supporters to gather and receive the DRIP equipment from Damongo, with each side claiming ownership of the materials.

This led to a physical confrontation, resulting in two people being seriously injured and rushed to the Salaga District Hospital, while others sustained minor injuries.

However, the Council in a statement signed by the Regional Chairman, Rev Father Lazarus Annyereh commended the Police for their swift intervention.

“We thank the Police, our revered Traditional Authorities, and all duty-bearers who have
intervened or are planning to do so.

“We appeal to residents of Salaga and the entire Savannah region to remain calm and exercise maximum restraint as we all work to confront our common and greatest enemies; poverty and underdevelopment,” it said.

Condemning the incident, the Council urged the leadership of both parties to call their
supporters to order immediately and to take appropriate actions to end the disturbance.

“We also want lessons learned from what caused the disturbance in Salaga to be
immediately applied by all regional party leadership in the region to ensure that we do
not have similar incidents anywhere in the region,” the statement admonished.

Asesewa: MP denies inciting NPP, NDC clash over branding of DRIP equipment https://www.adomonline.com/asesewa-mp-denies-inciting-npp-ndc-clash-over-branding-of-drip-equipment/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 08:01:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2440081 Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, has refuted claims that he incited National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters to attack members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The clash between the two political groups occurred on Monday, August 26, after NDC supporters questioned why equipment from the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) was parked at a hotel owned by the NPP parliamentary candidate, bearing the candidate’s images.

During the altercation, two people sustained injuries.

In an interview with Citi News, the MP said it was rather the ‘boys’ of the NPP candidate who started the attack.

“When they were parading the machines along the street of Asesewa, my house is just close to the road. So when they got to my house, he [the NPP parliamentary candidate] got down to direct traffic and his boys in the tipper [truck], they were throwing stones at my vehicle. We are on the ground and so how can we throw stones from above? They are in the tipper [truck], and they threw the stones, targeting one of my boys, and by God’s grace, the stone hit their own chairman.

Based on the volatile situation, the MP said he called on the District Chief Executive (DCE) to relocate the equipment to the Assembly premises to help restore peace in the area.

“I will plead with my colleague DCE, that he is the Chief Executive of this District, and he should know better that he is representing the government or the President and he is not just an NPP member but the district chief executive.

“He allowed all these things to happen because we cautioned him. I personally called him and told him that he cannot put the parliamentary candidate’s picture on this grader because he has no hand in it” Mr. Nyarko added.
