Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie, Ashis proposed that the tribute event be held ahead of the funeral of the Yentie Obiaa hitmaker.

“The iconic Lumba needs a national celebration, and I am urging Charterhouse to lead this campaign,” he said. “Try and put together an event where we will have our stars come and honour the legend. Before his burial, we should do something like that—maybe a Fameye or Kwabena Kwabena performing a Lumba song—just like we see at the Ghana Music Awards. Even if it’s a paid event, I’m sure it’ll be sold out.”

Ashis described Daddy Lumba as one of Ghana’s most revered entertainers and recounted a conversation with a friend who claimed that Lumba was the only musician successive governments “feared.”

“For more than a decade, presidential candidates from the two main political parties were cautious of Lumba. He could be with you today and be with the other party tomorrow, and no one dared touch him. Other artistes did political songs and suffered for it—but not Lumba,” he added.

Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, Daddy Lumba was one of Ghana’s most iconic highlife musicians, with a career spanning over three decades. He released more than 30 albums, including Aben Wɔha, Yentie Obiaa, and Theresa, cementing his place as a household name.

He passed away on July 26, 2025, after a short illness, leaving behind a rich musical legacy set to inspire generations of Ghanaian artistes.

Politicians will continue to use creatives if we don’t unite – Nana Poku Ashis https://www.adomonline.com/politicians-will-continue-to-use-creatives-if-we-dont-unite-nana-poku-ashis/ Tue, 20 Feb 2024 17:09:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2359116 Nana Poku Ashis has urged every creative and union in the industry not to succumb to the allure of politicians’ promises during this election year to campaign for them.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, the artiste manager explained that, politicians often rely on the services of creatives during this period and as a result make short-term promises and gains to secure their support.

While some individuals in the industry may be tempted to accept these promises, Ashis emphasized that such actions do not foster the united front necessary for creatives to protect and advance their industry.

“During elections, that’s where most of our creative works come into play. They need it. Around that period, you hear a lot of musical messages from creatives.

“You don’t necessarily need to hear the person speak, but the voice of that music reminds you of something. So it tells you that creative work is very important to the politicians around that period.

“But should it be only around that period? Should our wealth be sought around that period and that’s it?”

“Development has stalled in our sector. Lots of promises from all governments that have run through offices. They’ve given us promises upon promises upon promises. Are we fools to still be doing the same thing over and over again?

“There comes a time a fool gets wise and a fool needs to ask questions. What is the use of all that if promises cannot be implemented and then you come knocking on my door again for me to go and do this again? It doesn’t make sense. But they will get to use us because we don’t have a united front,” Ashis stated.

The artiste manager called on unions like MUSIGA, FIPAG, and the Ghana Actors Guild to be proactive and united in demanding better treatment and the fulfilment of promises made to the industry by politicians.

He warned that constant infighting and backbiting would only further damage the industry.

“We need to face the bull by the horns and tell them (politicians) that enough is enough. Until we see these amphitheatres, until all those promises made to us are implemented, we are not going to avail ourselves to be used. We can do it. If we drop our selfish ego and our selfish interest, we can face that and things can change in our sector.”

“I mean they wanted to build a cathedral and they are still on course building a cathedral. How can they not just build one amphitheatre? Why is this such a big deal for us to get a theatre somewhere?

“They promised and where is it? Nobody cares about us. So why do you waste your time day in and day out?”

Yvonne Nelson is too young to write a memoir – Kwabena Kwabena’s manager [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/yvonne-nelson-is-too-young-to-write-a-memoir-kwabena-kwabenas-manager-video/ Mon, 26 Jun 2023 12:06:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2264666 The manager of renowned highlife artiste, Kwabena Kwabena, Nana Poku Ashis, has expressed doubt regarding Yvonne Nelson’s ability to write a book about her relatively young life.

The actress made headlines for an entire week following the release of her memoir, titled “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” in June 2023.

Yvonne Nelson’s memoir delves into various aspects of her life, including her childhood experiences, educational background, struggles in the entertainment industry, and the lingering question of her father’s identity.

Notably, the book also reveals details about her past relationship with rapper Sarkodie, shedding light on a significant event where she underwent an abortion after conceiving a child with the music star from Tema in 2010.

Responding to the revelations contained within the memoir, Nana Poku Ashis expressed his scepticism, stating that Yvonne Nelson had penned the book prematurely.

He argued that she lacked the necessary life experiences, suggesting that memoirs are typically written by individuals in their late 60s or 70s.

Additionally, he emphasized that memoirs were meant for those who had lived a full and eventful life, made significant mistakes, and gained wisdom from their life journeys.

“Now we will scrutinize everything she does and blow the trumpet even when it is not necessary. Some people will think she wants to portray herself as a saint, so the scrutiny will never stop,” Nana Poku Ashis stated during an interview with Mike 2 on Adom FM‘s weekend show, Entertainment Hall.

Yvonne Nelson’s memoir has ignited a debate among fans and critics alike, with differing opinions on the appropriateness of her sharing personal details at this stage of her life.

While some applaud her transparency and courage to discuss delicate subjects, others, like Nana Poku Ashis, questioned her readiness to delve into the realm of memoir writing.

Kwabena Kwabena isn’t interested in VGMA nominations – Manager Ashis [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/kwabena-kwabena-isnt-interested-in-vgma-nominations-manager-ashis-audio/ Mon, 27 Mar 2023 16:23:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2232838 The manager of highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena, Nana Poku Ashis, says his artiste is no longer interested in Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) nominations.

In an interview on Adom FM’s weekend Entertainment Hall show, Ashis disclosed that the Adult Music hitmaker didn’t want to have anything to do with the nominations for the prestigious awards.

Announcing that they didn’t file for nominations for this year’s event, Ashis said Kwabena Kwabena thinks there are challenges with Charterhouse, organisers of VGMA, when it comes to nominating musicians aptly.

“We didn’t file for VGMA. For some reason, Kwabena Kwabena said some comments in the previous years, so he just wanted to stay away. He says some things weren’t going well.”

Ashis, meanwhile, further explained that Kwabena Kwabena didn’t appreciate the gesture that musicians must submit works before they get nominations.

“Looking for the artiste and writing emails and things didn’t sit well with him. He doesn’t believe that as an artiste he is not supposed to file, and he thinks the older musicians are not given the privilege.”

When asked if Kwabena Kwabena will no longer patronise the national awards scheme, Ashis declined, adding that, when things go right, his artiste will show up in the future.

“He wants to stay back and soon when he thinks things are done well he will be back,” he told the host, Mike 2.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Kwabena released his 6th studio album Fa Me Saa on November 11, 2022 – a 14-track album comprising Ghana’s prime genre, Highlife and Afrobeats among other elements that make it certified.
