Media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has criticized former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, for what she describes as his poor performance in office.

Speaking on United Showbiz, she accused Okraku-Mantey of failing to address key issues affecting the entertainment industry during his tenure. Her comments sparked reactions, with some questioning whether she had a personal issue with the former deputy minister.

Addressing the concerns on Joy Prime’s Changes show, Nana Aba affirmed that her criticism was personal because Okraku-Mantey’s salary was funded by taxpayers, including herself.

“Yes, I have a personal problem with him because if my taxes are used to pay your salary, it’s personal. If my taxes are used to fuel your tank, it’s personal,” she told host Roselyn Felli on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

When asked about her relationship with Okraku-Mantey, she described him as an “acquaintance” and insisted she would tell him the same thing in person.

She further explained that her remarks stemmed from disappointment in his performance, particularly because he had been a media practitioner and was expected to support the creative arts sector better than his predecessors.

“I felt his comments were unnecessary. He’s been in the media before and doesn’t decide for any channel how they should approach their show. That wasn’t the main thrust; it was my disappointment in him because I thought that for someone who was coming from this industry, I expected better from him for the creatives. I expected an improvement to move them from A to C.”

According to her, Okraku-Mantey failed to deliver, and the fortunes of most creatives continue to worsen.

Despite facing backlash for her comments, she remains firm in her stance, maintaining that he failed the creative industry.

I abandoned medical school – Nana Aba Anamoah https://www.adomonline.com/i-abandoned-medical-school-nana-aba-anamoah/ Sat, 17 Feb 2024 16:51:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2357650 Renowned media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, has opened up on how pregnancy dashed her father’s hope of her becoming a medical doctor.

As a science student of Cape Coast-based Ghana National College, Nana Aba said she gained admission to medical school but couldn’t go due to pregnancy.

“Did I sacrifice school? I did. For one year, and I’ve never said this before, but I got admission to medical school. You know, I was a science student as well, so I got admission to medical school, and I had to let that go,” she disclosed in an interview with 3 Music TV.

In what to her appeared as a divine intervention, the broadcaster said she had to make the tough choice for the sake of her unborn child.

“I would have been a disaster as a medical doctor and it came at the right time. My father was living his life through me. I think he wanted to be a doctor; he couldn’t do it, so he thought, Oh, my daughter will be a doctor,” she narrated.

She acknowledged her experiences and life decisions have shaped her to become the woman she is today.

But to her, that is one thing she admits in good faith and does not in any way regret it.

However, her life as an opportunist is for a good course as she uses people positively.

“My father always tells me I am an opportunist and it is true but I don’t regret it at all because I like to use people positively.

“If I come into contact with someone, I find ways to become friends with them so I can understudy them and I’m ready to go to every extent to serve them without hesitation because I know what I want in them,” she said.

The broadcaster disclosed this on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3 as she shares nuggets on how she managed to rise through the ladder of her journalism career.

“I have a master book with all the people I like including Emma Morrison, Isreal Laryea, Gideon Aryeequaye and others who I learnt a lot from.

“I write down their strength and weakness and make them my strength. I humble myself to get what I want and will be ready to do everything for them without hesitation and that is how I have lived my life,” she explained to Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.

This, according to her, is because most of these lifestyles are sponsored, hence the need for people to learn to live within their means.

Citing herself, Nana Aba said she does not remember the last time she personally bought clothes or shoes with her own money as they are mostly from people.

“When you see someone live expensive life on social media, don’t think everything is okay with them because there is a lot of the time, I don’t buy what I wear.

“People come to me and request for me to wear their outfits, and take a picture to post on social media for them. Don’t go and kill yourself out of desperation for money for these things you see,” she warned in a playback interview on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3 from 2021.

She added, “I don’t remember the last time I bought clothing, a watch or hair with my own money. I don’t remember the last time I took money out to buy such things, so don’t be fooled by what you see on social media.”

According to her, she cannot fathom why acquiring the mobile phone has become an accomplishment for many Ghanaians.

Taking to her Twitter page, Efia Odo said the situation really baffles her because it is even more embarrassing for celebrities to intentionally pose with the new phone to show how “they’ve made it in life.”

Why is acquiring the latest iPhone such an accomplishment to many Ghanaians? This really baffles me and I need answers cuz it’s quite embarrassing, especially seeing ‘celebrities’ posing with their new iPhone, she said.

MORE:

Meanwhile, celebrities such as broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, Tracey Boakye, Nana Agradaa and social media sensation Twene Jonas have equally showed off their phones to update their status.

Shortly after Efia Odo made her assertion, one fan disagreed with her and asked why she also shows off her bikinis online.

But Efia replied saying: I show off my bikinis because I’m marketing my bikini line sweetheart.

The price of Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max starts from GHS 9,000 to GHS 12,000 depending on the storage capacity in Ghana.

It is unclear if the celebrities are showing off their wealth because the average Ghanaian cannot afford that kind of luxury.

Sammy Gyamfi’s ‘love’ letter to Nana Aba Anamoah https://www.adomonline.com/sammy-gyamfis-love-letter-to-nana-aba-anamoah/ Mon, 17 May 2021 17:29:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1960321 National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, says the NDC should not be blamed for the inadequacies of the Ghana healthcare system, five years after it has left office.

According to him, the NDC, during its tenure of office, did so much more for the Ghana healthcare system in comparison to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government which tenure he says has been riddled with “consumption, profligacy and corruption.”

He said this in response to a Twitter post by GHOne’s General Manager and journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah, who said rather than NDC loyalists shouting #FixTheCountry, they should have attended to the issues in the healthcare system while they were still in office.

However, Mr Gyamfi, who responded to the tweet on Facebook, said: “It is important to make the point that no government can solve all the problems or challenges confronting its people. So the issue is not the existence of problems or challenges per se, but the contribution of various governments to the solution of those problems is what matters.

“The facts show that no party in the history of this 4th Republic has done more than the NDC has done in the health sector.”

He went on to list the achievements of the NDC in the health sector during its erstwhile administration, a feat he says the NPP government has failed to match.

MORE:

“Aside the dozens of health infrastructure projects including a quaternary hospital, four regional hospitals, three institutional hospitals, 14 district hospitals, 18 health centers, 20 polyclinics, and over 2,000 CHPS Compounds that were built across the length and breadth of the country, the Mahama administration rolled out the National Medical Equipment Replacement Programme under which US$264 million was invested in the provision of critical diagnostic and treatment equipment for over 150 hospitals nationwide.

“This included all teaching hospitals, all regional hospitals, 125 district hospitals, 14 health centers and eight mobile clinics.

“The equipment received by hospitals varied from MRI machines, CT scan, fluoroscopy machine, X-ray machine, oxygen plants, digital Mammography, just to mention a few.

“Under this programme, obsolete equipment and theatres we replaced and rehabilitated. For instance, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the Pediatric Surgery Theatre which remained closed for almost eight years, the General Surgery Theatre and the Babies Unit were all refurbished and made operational.”

He added that the Mahama-led administration was able to do all of these with just about GHc248 billion.

“Now, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has had access to a total resource envelope of over GHc350 billion. The question we should ask them, is what do they have to show relative to investments in the health sector for this gargantuan and unprecedented resource envelope?

“They have nothing significant to show except consumption, profligacy and corruption. And that’s why they cannot show any hospital or significant projects they have built or undertaken in the last four and half years in the health and other sectors of our lives.”

He said for these reasons, the NDC could not be blamed for the failures of the healthcare system which have been largely ignored by the Akufo-Addo-led government.

He further called on his NDC comrades to be decorous when responding to such comments.

“Now to my NDC comrades, let’s exhibit tolerance for criticisms and divergence and state our case with decorum,” he said.

He donated to the mother-of-three, three newly purchased wheel chairs to aid movement of the children, and also gave her some monies in a bulky envelope to engage in a trade to help cater for her children.

Popular New Patriotic Party member, Bernard Oduro Nyarko, also gave the mother-of-three GHS 1,000.00.

Background

60-year-old Abena Donkor, a peasant farmer at Breman Esumanjura in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of the Central region.

Her three children, identified as Doris Ashan, 25, Frank Ashan, 23, Rawlings Ashan 17, and all have their legs amputated as a result of leprosy.

The disease has been with the children from infancy and has caused a lot of damage to the family including the death of their father Mr Ashan.
