Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Gbande claimed that the NPP brought three mallams from Niger into the constituency specifically for the election.

According to him, the NDC had prior reports about the presence of the alleged mallams in Kpandai, describing the development as part of efforts to disrupt the party’s campaign activities.

“We lost one of our members, but I cannot fully attribute it to the bee attack. We had reports that the NPP people had brought mallams from Niger. The NPP are lying that they don’t agree with the rerun but are campaigning on the grounds,” he said.

Mr Gbande emphasised that the NDC will remain focused on an issue-based campaign, centred on the performance of former President John Dramani Mahama, to properly inform voters.

“We believe this is an issue-based election. We are going to recount on the performance of President Mahama and the NDC so the voters will be informed,” he added.

One person has been reported dead following the bee attack on NDC supporters in the Kpandai District after a campaign engagement on Sunday, December 14. The incident occurred shortly after the party concluded its campaign activities in the area.

Kpandai rerun: Of what use will it be to keep Nyindam in Parliament? – Gbande [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/kpandai-rerun-of-what-use-will-it-be-to-keep-nyindam-in-parliament-gbande-audio/ Thu, 11 Dec 2025 09:26:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609331 The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has expressed confidence that the party will win the upcoming Kpandai parliamentary election rerun.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Gbande said the party is “already on our way,” adding, “We are doing preparations and campaigning hard, and we will win that seat.”

He also criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and incumbent MP Matthew Nyindam, saying, “Nyindam was in Kpandai doing campaign when the Minority was disrupting Parliament and needed numbers just to make noise. Of what use will it be to keep Nyindam in Parliament when their numbers will only be used for noise?”

Gbande accused the NPP of attempting to rig the election, stressing, “The people of Kpandai deserve better and a very peaceful constituency, but the NPP tried to manipulate that election. They did nothing for the constituency when they were in power for eight years, so it is best that the NDC wins.”

He also dismissed the idea that the NPP could win with a sympathy vote, saying, “The NPP just wants a sympathy vote, but Ghanaians won’t give them that.”

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, challenged Gbande’s claims during the same show.

He questioned whether the events in Kpandai were “a good thing,” blaming the NDC for the confusion that erupted during the 2024 elections and accusing the government of failing to deliver on the economy.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is expected to announce a timetable for the rerun in the coming days as political developments in the constituency continue.

While the NDC welcomed the Tamale High Court ruling that nullified the previous results, the NPP has rejected the decision, questioning why the entire election is being rerun instead of only the affected polling stations.

Mr. Nyindam, the incumbent MP, has filed notices of appeal and a stay of execution against the court’s ruling.

I would prefer we sack politically exposed NPP director and employ 20 people – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/i-would-prefer-we-sack-politically-exposed-npp-director-and-employ-20-people-mustapha-gbande/ Thu, 16 Oct 2025 07:32:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588989 The Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, says he would rather see a politically exposed New Patriotic Party (NPP) director dismissed and 20 new people employed in their place.

According to him, the government must not tolerate individuals who were deeply involved in the previous administration and are now occupying sensitive positions in state institutions.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story, Mr. Gbande said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s stance on corruption is clear, that it is often perpetuated by politically compromised individuals within the public sector.

“The NDC’s argument is that the corruption we have all talked about did not happen because of one minister or deputy minister. It happened within the institutions, the agencies, the directors of finance, and those who perpetrated it did so because they were politically compromised,” he explained.

“You don’t need a court of competent jurisdiction to pronounce someone politically exposed. We know those who played key roles under President Akufo-Addo’s regime. They believed in that regime and participated in it, whether good or bad. So what business do they have in this government? Why are we tolerating them?”

His comments come amid growing pressure on the NDC government from its grassroots, who are demanding jobs and appointments following the party’s victory in the 2024 general election.

Mr. Gbande cited the ongoing challenges with school placement as an example, claiming that the individuals responsible for the system are largely aligned with the NPP.

When asked about the NDC’s campaign promise to create jobs for all Ghanaians regardless of political affiliation, he maintained that the government remains committed to that pledge but stated that there is a need to reward loyalty while promoting inclusivity.

“Nine months into government, when the people have freed the country and we are undergoing vigorous economic recovery, everyone is praising the president. One would appreciate that that commitment is on course,” he said.

“But I prefer to sack a senior director who is politically exposed and employ 20 people – 15 NDC people, 5 NPP grassroots people. I would be happy for that to happen because the corruption didn’t happen at the grassroots of NPP or the grassroots of NDC, it happened at the Ministries and agencies.”

Mr. Gbande further dismissed suggestions that the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy is merely a political slogan, insisting it is a “vigorous policy” being implemented gradually with measurable impact.

“It is not a knee-jerk policy, it’s a vigorous policy that will be implemented gradually, and the full effect of it will be seen.

“We sat in this country for the NPP to give us hope for eight years, and nothing happened. We are seeing pragmatic achievement, and you don’t trust in the government?” he asked.

Give us time to fix it — Mustapha Gbande urges calm among NDC supporters over jobs https://www.adomonline.com/give-us-time-to-fix-it-mustapha-gbande-urges-calm-among-ndc-supporters-over-jobs/ Wed, 15 Oct 2025 11:05:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588676 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has called for calm among party supporters as the leadership works to address issues related to employment and internal concerns.

His appeal comes in response to growing frustration among some NDC supporters and sections of the public who have remained unemployed since the Mahama administration assumed office.

In a statement released on Tuesday, October 14, Mr. Gbande acknowledged the concerns being raised within the party, stressing that the leadership values all feedback “in whatever form they come” from both members and non-members.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of the grassroots and tackling challenges facing both the NDC and the government.

“We only ask that you grant us the space and time to find lasting solutions, even if gradually. Our government continues to make steady progress, regardless of the challenges,” Gbande stated.

He also encouraged members to be cautious in their public comments and communications, assuring them that their concerns have been duly noted.

“Let us therefore remain calm and united. On behalf of H.E President John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of our great party, we stand fully with you. Remember, patience and resilience always triumph in the end,” he added.

Ken Ashigbey’s posture at Mahama-CSOs meeting was surprising – Mustapha Gbande  https://www.adomonline.com/ken-ashigbeys-posture-at-mahama-csos-meeting-was-surprising-mustapha-gbande/ Tue, 07 Oct 2025 17:41:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2586257 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has voiced surprise at the tone and posture of the Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Dr. Ken Ashigbey, during the recent engagement between President John Dramani Mahama and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Gbande said he acknowledges the vital role civil society plays in holding leaders accountable.

However, he was taken aback by what he described as Dr. Ashigbey’s “hard language” towards the President.

“I was quite surprised at the posturing of my brother Ken Ashigbey, but of course, that is the role of civil society. You spoke to the President with hard language to awaken the government and to awaken the rank and file,” he remarked.

The Deputy Director of Operations maintained that the NDC has made significant progress in addressing illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

He stressed that the NDC’s approach is more coordinated and community-based compared to what he described as the NPP’s “armchair commentary.”

“Collectively, I am on the ground more than the entire NPP put together, and I can say we have improved in the fight against galamsey and will continue to make that progress,” he asserted.

According to Mr. Gbande, the NDC has taken deliberate steps to discipline its political actors and align them with the national interest. He questioned the commitment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the same cause.

“When political actors got involved, we began taming our party, getting our people to understand the seriousness of the matter. Where is the NPP in all of this? They are just sitting in Accra, writing the same big English that took them to opposition,” he said pointedly.

Mahama’s meeting with the CSOs on Friday, October 3, 2025, focused on national issues such as governance, transparency, and the fight against illegal mining.

Give us a break – Mustapha Gbande slams NPP over galamsey crisis  https://www.adomonline.com/give-us-a-break-mustapha-gbande-slams-npp-over-galamsey-crisis/ Tue, 07 Oct 2025 15:28:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2586217 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing it of being the root cause of the country’s illegal mining (galamsey) crisis.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Gbande said the NPP has no moral authority to promise solutions to a problem it “actively created and sustained” while in power.

“There is no excuse that these problems will be tackled, but let the NPP give us a break because they are the ones who brought us here,” he stated bluntly.

According to him, individuals within the NPP’s own setup, including officials in the Jubilee House, had been complicit in illegal mining activities, undermining the fight against galamsey from within.

“Today, who can confidently point out those in the Jubilee House who are engaged in galamsey? Collectively, there has been serious demobilisation of institutions protecting our forest reserves by people, whether political or apolitical, who are involved in this,” he lamented.

The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, however, commended the recent national dialogue on illegal mining, describing it as persuasive and a step in the right direction.

He noted that discussions from the forum outlined a new framework for imposing stiffer, politically neutral punishments for offenders who continue to destroy the country’s water bodies and forest reserves.

“The dialogue told us of a framework to enhance punishment that will not be politically biased against persons who are unrepentant and determined to destroy our natural resources, irrespective of who they are, and for me, that is persuasive enough,” he added.

Mr. Gbande further explained that the fight against illegal mining should not be treated as warfare but as a carefully coordinated national effort to distinguish legitimate small-scale mining from illegal operations.

He revealed that regional ministers, municipal, and district executives had recently been sensitised on how to coordinate strategies in tackling the menace more effectively.

“The whole of last week, our regional ministers, DCEs, and MCEs were sensitised on how to approach the issue to ensure a unified and successful fight against illegal mining,” he said.

Mr. Gbande’s comments come amid renewed public debate over the government’s handling of illegal mining, which continues to threaten Ghana’s forests, water bodies, and farmlands.

Appointees pushing for presidency now will face strong condemnation – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/appointees-pushing-for-presidency-now-will-face-strong-condemnation-mustapha-gbande/ Mon, 29 Sep 2025 13:26:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2583624 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has warned that any appointee of the incumbent party who begins to push for the presidency at this stage will face strong condemnation.

Speaking on JoyNews’ News Desk, Mr Gbande said the NDC has a unique tradition of resolving its leadership matters without unnecessary contests.

“It is only the NDC that has the history of choosing a presidential candidate without a lot of people contesting. If you check, that is our history,” he explained. “We have situations where nobody contests at all; we go and we do declarations, and we move on. So we have a way of handling our internal party issues.”

His comments come after a new poll by Global Info Analytics placed Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu as the leading contender to head the NDC in the next general elections in its survey specifically for the month of September.

While welcoming such research by Global Info Analytics, Mr Gbande stressed that the findings do not reflect the party’s present position.

“I want to emphasise again that we are grateful for this research; it’s very good, but that is not where the party is,” he said.

He cautioned appointees against engaging in premature presidential ambitions, describing such actions as divisive and unacceptable.

“Ghanaians do not expect anybody—in fact, no appointee should be engaged in what we call presidential ambition. It will be an affront to our collective interest. It will be strange. In fact, it will be condemnable and unacceptable to where we are at this time.”

Disorganised, ‘Enemy of the State’ opposition is NDC’s advantage – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/disorganised-enemy-of-the-state-opposition-is-ndcs-advantage-mustapha-gbande/ Mon, 29 Sep 2025 12:54:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2583606 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has taken a swipe at the opposition, describing them as “enemies of the state” and “very disorganised.”

Gbande’s comments come in the wake of a new Global Info Analytics poll that places Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu as the frontrunner to lead the NDC into the 2028 presidential elections.

While welcoming the poll as a positive sign for the party, Gbande cautioned against early succession politics, stressing that the current focus must remain on delivering on the mandate of President John Dramani Mahama’s government.

“I am determined that President Mahama must succeed, and that is my focus for the meantime. That is also the focus of the majority within our party,” Gbande said on JoyNews’ News Desk.

“We cannot fail the masses, we cannot fail you, we cannot fail the people of Ghana. So let us kill this conversation. That conversation is for when the timing is right.”

The NDC deputy chief scribe emphasised that the party’s true test lies not in opinion polls but in its ability to govern effectively under unprecedented levels of public expectation.

“We just came to power, and we are even yet to give a full account of our one-year term,” he explained.

“In the proper context of power transitioning, there has never been a time when any government, within nine months, has been met with the kind of expectation we are under now.”

Gbande stressed that performance, not personalities, would determine the party’s fate in the next election.

“Our trump card will be our performance. If we fail, we can go and bring Jesus Christ to come and lead the party; we will still go to the opposition,” he warned.

He added that the NDC’s “only luck” is the weakness of its opponents.

“The only luck we have is that the alternative is not something you want to venture into. Currently, they are enemies of the state, very disorganised.”

Gbande concluded by reiterating that conversations about the NDC’s 2028 flagbearer are premature and risk distracting from the party’s immediate responsibilities.

“We are happy that these polls are coming, no two ways about it,” he said. “But I am saying that this is not the time to engage in that conversation.”

Focus on Mahama, not 2028 flagbearer race – Mustapha Gbande warns NDC members https://www.adomonline.com/focus-on-mahama-not-2028-flagbearer-race-mustapha-gbande-warns-ndc-members/ Mon, 29 Sep 2025 12:09:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2583532 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has called on party members to end speculation over who will lead the party into the 2028 presidential election.

Speaking on JoyNews’ News Desk, Gbande stressed that the NDC’s immediate priority must be supporting President John Dramani Mahama and ensuring the success of his administration, which returned to power less than a year ago.

His comments follow a new poll by Global Info Analytics that ranked Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, as the leading contender to head the NDC in the next general elections.

Gbande, however, cautioned that such discussions are premature and risk distracting the government.

“I am determined that President Mahama must succeed, and that is my focus in the meantime. That is also the focus of the larger and majority of individuals in our party. We cannot fail the masses, we cannot fail you, we cannot fail the people of Ghana. So let us kill this conversation for now. That discussion is one for when the time is right,” he said.

He argued that the NDC government is still in its early days and should be assessed on its performance rather than future succession battles.

“We just came to power, and we are yet to give a full account of our one-year term. In the proper context of political transitions, there has never been a time when any government has, within nine months, been met with the kind of expectations we now face,” Gbande noted.

According to him, the NDC’s electoral future will depend on its delivery.

“Our trump card will be our performance. If we fail, we can go and bring Jesus Christ to come and lead the party; we will still go to the opposition,” he cautioned.

Gbande also took aim at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming they lack credibility.

“The only luck we have is that the alternative is not something anyone would want to venture into. Currently, they are enemies of the state and very disorganised,” he said.

While acknowledging the relevance of polls and the popularity of figures such as Haruna Iddrisu, Gbande insisted that the timing is wrong for leadership debates.

“We are happy that these polls are coming, no two ways about it, but I am saying that this is not the time to engage in that conversation,” he concluded.

I won’t campaign in 2028 if… – Mustapha Gbande [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/i-wont-campaign-in-2028-if-mustapha-gbande-video/ Fri, 26 Sep 2025 14:14:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2582928

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has cautioned party members that he will not participate in the 2028 election campaign if President John Mahama does not deliver on his mandate.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Gbande said the party’s fortunes are closely tied to President Mahama’s performance, stressing that any failure would have serious consequences for the NDC.

“Anybody who thinks Mahama’s success is not their success is being delusional. If he fails, the NDC will go into opposition because I will not go for the campaign. My principles will not allow me to go and lie,” he declared.

He added that if President Mahama succeeds, the party will be on solid ground heading into 2028, irrespective of who becomes the flagbearer.

“If President Mahama succeeds, whoever will be our candidate, we will do everything and by every means ensure he becomes president,” he said.

Mr. Gbande also dismissed recent public exchanges among party members, including former MP Ras Mubarak, as distractions, insisting that the NDC is not run on social media.

He urged party leaders and ministers to engage directly with grassroots supporters rather than relying on media commentary from Accra.

“Policies will fail if we don’t meet the people on the ground. Farmers don’t understand our kind of English; they need practical engagement,” he noted.

The NDC deputy secretary emphasized the importance of focusing on delivering results under President Mahama, rather than linking internal party actions to individual ambitions.

OSP must work with FBI to extradite Ken Ofori-Atta or… – Mustapha Gbande [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/osp-must-work-with-fbi-to-extradite-ken-ofori-atta-or-mustapha-gbande-audio/ Thu, 25 Sep 2025 15:22:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2582497 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has expressed frustration over the delayed prosecution of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for alleged economic crimes during his tenure.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Gbande questioned why the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has not collaborated with international bodies like the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to hold the former minister accountable.

“If the OSP cannot work with the FBI to bring Ken Ofori-Atta, then the FBI cannot come to Ghana to take people to the U.S.,” he said. “They extradite Ghanaians for crimes abroad but cannot extradite Ken Ofori-Atta to face prosecution in his own country for crimes committed here.”

Mr. Gbande further accused Ofori-Atta of portraying himself as a victim while ordinary Ghanaians continue to suffer the consequences of his policies.

“Does anybody think Ken Ofori-Atta is innocent or has treated Ghanaians fairly? He punished citizens, including pensioners, and was part of the PDS scandal. Anything scandalous under Nana Addo, he was the PRO and actually superintended it,” he added.

The OSP had declared the former minister wanted after months of failed attempts to summon him over alleged corruption and abuse of office.

Authorities noted that no official medical documentation had been submitted to justify his extended stay abroad.

However, Ofori-Atta’s wife, Angela Ofori-Atta, later confirmed that he had successfully undergone surgery for prostate cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

She explained that the procedure, a robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, took place on Friday, June 13, and lasted over four hours.

NPP may be registering a new political party if… – Mustapha Gbande  https://www.adomonline.com/npp-may-be-registering-a-new-political-party-if-mustapha-gbande/ Wed, 24 Sep 2025 08:44:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2581765 Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) risks collapsing into a new political party if it fails to acknowledge public anger over its conduct while in government.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Gbande said many Ghanaians are determined to punish the NPP at the ballot box, and the depth of public resentment could have dramatic political consequences.

“Ghanaians have made up their mind to punish the NPP, and they are looking for a government that will punish them. By the time NPP realises the full impact of what they did in government, maybe they will be registering a new political party. Mark my words,” he stated.

In response to the NPP’s accusations of selective arrests and prosecutions by the government, the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency challenged them to present evidence of any wrongdoing by NDC members.

“How can they go on demo accusing the government of selectivity of arrest? If they have evidence that any NDC member has done something wrong, they should bring it up,” he said.

Mr. Gbande also referenced high-profile statements and allegations by NPP figures, including Abronye DC and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, saying their experiences had taught him to be cautious.

“I have learned lessons from what is happening, and I won’t even take loans. Even when I am given freely nkoko nketekete, I won’t take it. Because if I’m caught up in anything, the NPP will deal with me,” he said.

His remarks come amid heightened political tensions over recent arrests and the government’s anti-corruption drive, which the NDC says is necessary accountability, while critics label some actions selective.

Mr. Gbande framed the current moment as one in which voters are actively seeking retribution for perceived past misdeeds by the NPP and urged the opposition to channel grievances through evidence and due process rather than demonstrations.

We’ve no business increasing utility tariffs if… – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/weve-no-business-increasing-utility-tariffs-if-mustapha-gbande/ Wed, 24 Sep 2025 08:09:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2581747 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has criticised the government over the recent upward adjustment in electricity tariffs, arguing that unresolved corruption scandals, including the Power Distribution Services (PDS) deal, make the increase unjustifiable.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Gbande said Ghanaians should not bear higher utility costs while major cases of alleged financial mismanagement remain unaddressed.

“If we haven’t arrested and prosecuted people, we have no business increasing utility tariffs. We cannot let the PDS scandal be swept under the carpet. We want to build a country where people are legally invited, interrogated, and charged in court for their wrongdoing,” he stressed.

He urged that the government’s Accountability Series must not only highlight achievements but also expose corruption and shady deals by the previous administration that denied citizens value for money.

“We are going to call out our ministers to intensify investigations into corrupt practices. They will be doing a disservice to Ghanaians if they only tout what they are doing without exposing the rots they came to uncover,” he said.

Addressing concerns about politically motivated arrests, Mr. Gbande insisted that those apprehended under the NDC’s initiative had legitimate cases to answer.

“We promised ORAL, and a few people are being arrested, and they are complaining. But until Ghanaians vote for a new government, it will continue,” he remarked, adding that the NPP should not expect the NDC to remain silent in the face of what he described as blatant mismanagement.

“We thought the NPP would go and sleep quietly, but clearly, they don’t do that,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) recently announced a 1.14% increase in electricity tariffs, effective October 1, 2025.

Ghanaians are ready to punish NPP – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/ghanaians-are-ready-to-punish-npp-mustapha-gbande/ Tue, 23 Sep 2025 20:45:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2581679 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has yet to appreciate the resolve of Ghanaians to vote them out of power.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he argued that the NPP’s defeat in the recent Akwatia by-election reflects the growing discontent of the electorate.

“We won the Akwatia by-election through hard work. The NPP is yet to realise that Ghanaians want to punish them. By the time they feel the full impact of their wrongs, they may even be registering a new political party,” Gbande stated.

He also dismissed President Akufo-Addo’s claims that the NPP will regain power based on his legacy and that of former President John Kufuor, insisting that the current government has been riddled with scandals.

According to him, the administration has “led a gang that ripped the country off” and cannot whitewash its failures with propaganda.

“Akufo-Addo saying they will regain power because of his works and that of Kufuor is not it. I thought he would have reflected in consideration of the scandals in his government. What has Akufo-Addo done apart from leading a gang of people who ripped this country off? And now they think they can whitewash themselves with lies,” he said.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Gbande claimed that NPP Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, were directly involved in the incident.

“What I do know is that the incident that occurred, part of it had to do with Honourable Afenyo-Markin, with Justin Kodua entering into the NDC’s party office to tear posters. And I think that these are very bad practices politically, it’s not done,” Gbande stated.

He described the conduct as undemocratic and dangerous, particularly in the sensitive post-election period.

Gbande stressed that any alleged illegalities during elections should be addressed by law enforcement agencies and not political parties acting on their own.

“When an election is in session, the enforcement of rights and security is the responsibility of the police. If you have identified that there is something wrong or unlawful, it was for you to report to the police for action to be taken. But when you arrogate to yourself the right to enforce, it gives people the leeway to do all manner of things,” he explained.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary further described the situation as avoidable, warning that such actions could be part of a broader attempt by the NPP to create unrest following its defeat in the recent elections.

“It is not justifiable that because of that conduct some of these developments should ensue. I think it was avoidable. But beyond that, I am aware that the NPP, having lost this election, will try to find something to sit on and cling to, to disturb the public,” Gbande alleged.

It was a free-for-all under NPP – Mustapha Gbande on galamsey https://www.adomonline.com/it-was-a-free-for-all-under-npp-mustapha-gbande-on-galamsey/ Thu, 04 Sep 2025 19:37:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2575052 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being the chief architects behind illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Gbande alleged that the NPP, during its time in office, caused extensive environmental damage through unregulated mining activities and is now attempting to “whitewash” its record.

He maintained that the NDC government, barely eight months in power, has already taken decisive steps to regulate small-scale mining.

“The NPP has caused significant harm to Ghana in terms of galamsey, and the NDC is working to fix it. It’s a gradual process; we have only been in power for eight months. Our government has made decisive efforts to address the issue. The NDC’s approach to welfare for miners is that while you can mine, it must be under government supervision and in adherence to the laws. Under the NPP, it was a free-for-all, which led to the destruction of the country,” he said.

Mr. Gbande insisted that the NDC remains committed to restoring order in the mining sector and protecting the environment.

NPP knew it would lose Akwatia by-election; candidate was not fit – Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/npp-knew-it-would-lose-akwatia-by-election-candidate-was-not-fit-gbande/ Thu, 04 Sep 2025 08:28:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2574740 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has said the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) choice of candidate for the Akwatia by-election was “not fit for purpose,” arguing that the party sidelined more competent aspirants.

The NPP fielded Solomon Kwame Asumadu, CEO of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate.

However, Mr Asumadu lost the September 2, 2025, by-election after polling 15,235 votes, while the NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo secured 18,199 votes out of 33,819 valid ballots cast, reclaiming the seat for the governing party.

Reacting to the results, Mr Gbande claimed the NPP expected defeat from the onset.

“As for the NPP, from day one, they knew they were going to lose this election. The candidate they imposed was not fit for the purpose.

If they had known, they wouldn’t have tied the other aspirants’ hands behind them. We went there with a calculated, determined strategy to win the election devoid of violence. And that is one aspect the NPP doesn’t know,” he told Channel One TV.

NDC delegation ‘nearly attacked’ at Ernest Kumi’s one-week observance [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-delegation-nearly-attacked-at-ernest-kumis-one-week-observance-video/ Fri, 29 Aug 2025 19:53:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2572782 A delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by its National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, encountered hostility during the one-week memorial service of the late Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

According to NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande, the team was at the Akyem Wenchi funeral grounds to sympathize with the bereaved family when sections of the crowd turned on them.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he explained that while some mourners warmly received the delegation, others began booing and allegedly attempted to physically attack them.

“The National Chairman, myself, the National Organiser, the Deputy Communications Officer, and Regional Executives were present. Unfortunately, the overwhelming reception given to our chairman provoked some individuals who then sought to launch an attack,” Gbande claimed.

He described the incident as a worrying sign of possible violence ahead of the Akwatia by-election slated for September 2, 2025.

Gbande, however, acknowledged that Eastern Regional NPP Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo, together with some traditional leaders, later approached the NDC delegation to apologize for the development.

A video of the confrontation has since circulated on social media.

Visibly angry women attempted to physically assault the NDC chairman and his security detail.

The one-week observance, themed My Hero Lives On, drew family members, friends, colleagues, political figures, and community members who gathered to mourn the late lawmaker.

Mr. Kumi passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, after a brief illness at the age of 40. He is survived by his wife and children.

Akwatia by-election: Do you drink water when you wake up? – Nana B jabs Mustapha Gbande [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-by-election-dont-you-drink-water-when-you-wake-up-nana-b-jabs-mustapha-gbande-video/ Fri, 01 Aug 2025 16:30:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2562588 The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has hit back at the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, over recent comments ahead of the Akwatia by-election.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Nana B described Mr. Gbande’s remarks as reckless and intended to create fear and panic.

“Is Akwatia for him? You just wake up and say anything. These unfortunate comments are just to destroy the peace of this country,” he said.

Nana B stressed that the NPP will not be intimidated by threats of arrests or violence.

“We are ready, and we will protect ourselves in Akwatia. The seat is already ours, so the NDC should stop talking,” he added.

Responding directly to Mr. Gbande, Nana B said, “Who is Mustapha Gbande? We’ll be waiting for him in Akwatia. Nobody drinks water when they wake up and starts talking anyhow. Does he even drink water when he wakes up every morning?”

On the issue of arrests, he challenged the NDC’s assertions, saying:
“Do we arrest people at Akwatia? If anyone is invited by the security agencies, they will show up. So what’s he talking about?”

His comments follow warnings by Mustapha Gbande that individuals within the NPP with pending criminal cases would be arrested if they appear in Akwatia.

While Gbande maintained that the NDC was committed to a peaceful campaign, he noted that his party would not tolerate any form of lawlessness during the by-election.

Akwatia by-election: Afenyo-Markin, other NPP members will be arrested if… – Mustapha Gbande  https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-by-election-afenyo-markin-other-npp-members-will-be-arrested-if-mustapha-gbande/ Tue, 29 Jul 2025 16:34:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2561130 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has issued a strong warning ahead of the Akwatia by-election, cautioning members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) with pending criminal cases.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Gbande stated that while the NDC is committed to a peaceful campaign, it will not tolerate lawlessness. He emphasized that individuals wanted for crimes will be arrested if they show up in Akwatia.

“We will go to Akwatia peacefully. But anybody who goes there to cause mayhem will be arrested—especially those already wanted for crime. When they step foot in Akwatia, we will cause the police to arrest them,” he warned.

Mr. Gbande alleged that some NPP appointees are wanted for offences including money laundering, visa racketeering, and corruption.

“There is evidence to that effect. When they come to Akwatia, they are not on their way to Parliament, so the police will lay an ambush and arrest them,” he added.

He singled out Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, claiming he is “wanted for slapping a policeman” and will face arrest if he visits the constituency.

Mr. Gbande also accused the NPP of turning a blind eye to recent acts of violence allegedly committed by its members in the Ablekuma North constituency.

“Ntim Fordjour is threatening that if nothing happens to those involved in the violence in Ablekuma North, there will be violence in Akwatia. Some NPP members are already inciting violence, but the party has not condemned it,” he noted.

Despite the tensions, he assured the public that the NDC will run a peaceful, people-centered campaign.

“We will campaign very peacefully, engage the people, and go into the primaries to select a marketable candidate who resonates with the people,” he said.

Mr. Gbande further declared, “The NPP must know that we, the NDC, will not be violent, but we will let the law take its course. As citizens of this country, we have the cardinal responsibility to cause your arrest.”

The Electoral Commission is yet to announce a date for the by-election, following the passing of Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi on July 7, 2025. However, both major political parties have already begun preparations to capture the seat.

He described the claims as baseless and a smear campaign allegedly orchestrated by internal party detractors.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Gbande accused some unnamed NDC “bigwigs” of attempting to tarnish their reputations.

“Joseph Yamin is not into mining, let alone galamsey. This agenda is not coming from the NPP; it is internal. Not everyone will like you, but we have spent our youthful years taking risks for this party. The grassroots appreciate us, and that is enough,” he said.

He warned that they would respond more forcefully if such allegations persist.

“The next time this happens, we will take it a step further. We are not into mining, and we are not aiding any illegal mining activities,” he stressed.

His response follows claims by the Concerned Small Scale Miners Association of Ghana (CSSMAG) that an illegal taskforce was operating in mining communities under the influence of Yamin and Yakubu Abanga, the NDC’s 3rd Vice-Chairperson.

The group alleged that the taskforce, dressed in military gear, was extorting money from miners in areas including Sekondi, Bekwai, Offinso, and Prestea.

“We in the NDC are still mourning the late Ernest Yaw Kumi. I am not the one to announce whether or not we are contesting. Should the party decide that we should go for an election, we will. We are yet to decide,” he said.

The Electoral Commission is expected to announce a date for the by-election to fill the parliamentary seat in line with Ghana’s electoral laws.

I’m not afraid of anyone in the NPP – Mustapha Gbande [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/im-not-afraid-of-anyone-in-the-npp-mustapha-gbande-video/ Mon, 14 Jul 2025 17:10:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2555155 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has strongly rejected allegations linking him to violent incidents during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Gbande dismissed claims by the Minority Caucus in Parliament—led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin—that he and NDC Deputy National Communications Officer Malik Basintale incited unrest during the July 11 polls.

“I am not a coward. Even if my name appears on their list, I am not afraid of anyone in the NPP. If you want to come after me, do so directly. But don’t accuse me of something I haven’t done,” he said.

He also questioned the accuracy of the Minority’s statement, claiming it was rushed and not based on verified facts.

“Administratively, you don’t rush to release statements without proper information. I showed the Minority Leader evidence that he was misled, but he still insisted on his claims,” Gbande stated.

He further accused the NPP of circulating posters of NDC members with inscriptions reading “wanted, alive or dead”—a move he says is reckless and dangerous.

“If anything happens to any of our boys, we will hold the NPP responsible. Their party headquarters is not a police station,” he warned.

Mr. Gbande called for calm and responsible political conduct, urging leaders to avoid inciting tensions that could endanger lives.

Ablekuma North: ‘I was only there to de-escalate the situation’ – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/ablekuma-north-i-was-only-there-to-de-escalate-the-situation-mustapha-gbande/ Sun, 13 Jul 2025 12:20:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2554692 The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has denied allegations by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, that he led a group of individuals to disrupt the recent rerun election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

In a statement dated Friday, July 11, the Minority Caucus alleged: “We are deeply concerned by the recurrence of violent disruptions by NDC thugs, led by Malik Basintale – Deputy National Communications Officer, and Mustapha Gbande – Deputy General Secretary of the NDC.”

But in a swift rebuttal, Mr. Gbande clarified that his presence in the constituency was solely for routine electoral monitoring.

According to him, he was not at the polling station when the altercation involving former Member of Parliament and Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson, occurred.

“I was in the constituency as part of routine electoral monitoring, and though I was not at the polling station when the altercation involving the former MP and Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson, broke out, I rushed there to assist in de-escalating the situation when called upon. Contrary to the false narrative, I got my driver to take her to the hospital,” he explained.

Mr. Gbande described the claims by Mr. Afenyo-Markin as “blatantly false and misleading,” cautioning against politicising electoral incidents without a factual basis.

Last Friday’s rerun was marred by violence, as individuals allegedly affiliated with the NDC reportedly assaulted journalists and some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Despite the chaos, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Ewurabena Aubbyn, emerged victorious.

Mustapha Gbande denies alleged role in Ablekuma North rerun violence https://www.adomonline.com/mustapha-gbande-denies-alleged-role-in-ablekuma-north-rerun-violence/ Sat, 12 Jul 2025 14:56:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2554610 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has denied allegations made by Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to him, the Member of Parliament accused him of inciting or directing acts of violence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun election held on Friday, 11th July, 2025.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 12, Mr. Gbande expressed shock at the Minority Leader’s claims, describing them as “false, reckless, and politically motivated.”

He insisted he had no involvement in or prior knowledge of any violent incidents at the 19 polling stations where the rerun took place.

“I categorically deny any involvement in, or prior knowledge of, any of the incidents he referred to,” Gbande said.

“Such conduct from a trained lawyer and senior member of the legislature reflects a disregard for truth and the ethical standards expected of public office holders.”

Mr. Gbande confirmed his presence in the constituency as part of routine electoral monitoring but clarified that he was not at the scene when the altercation involving former MP and Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson broke out.

“When I was called upon, I rushed to the scene to assist with efforts to de-escalate the situation. Contrary to the false narrative, I asked my driver to take Madam Hawa Koomson to the hospital,” he explained.

He condemned all unlawful acts and called for a full and impartial investigation by the Ghana Police Service to ensure that the perpetrators of any wrongdoing are brought to justice.

Mr. Gbande also urged the Electoral Commission and relevant authorities to enhance measures that safeguard electoral integrity and protect the dignity of political participants during such exercises.

In response to Mr. Afenyo-Markin’s accusations, Mr Gbande disclosed that the matter has been referred to his legal team for advice.

He warned that disinformation and character assassination pose serious threats to democratic discourse.

“It is essential that we preserve a political culture rooted in truth, accountability, and the rule of law,” he noted.

“I remain committed to promoting peace, fair participation, and responsible leadership values that should guide all political actors in our nation.”

He further reaffirmed his continued dedication to his duties, stating he remains undeterred and will carry on with honesty and conviction.

I don’t understand why everybody now wants to be in National Security – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/i-dont-understand-why-everybody-now-wants-to-be-in-national-security-mustapha-gbande/ Thu, 10 Jul 2025 16:50:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2553865 The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has expressed concern over what he describes as an unusual surge in public interest in joining the National Security apparatus.

According to him, an increasing number of individuals are now opting to work as National Security operatives despite the relatively low pay, even when better-paying job opportunities are available elsewhere.

“There is no problem anywhere, but when you want to work at SSNIT and the CEO is not ready to recruit people, what will you do? Someone will come to you asking for a security job, and when you offer them one, they will insist on a National Security job,” he said.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Gbande, who also serves as General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), questioned the motivation behind the growing interest.

“I’m embarking on research to understand this, and I’m not done yet, but I believe it is wrong. People may have access to better-paying jobs but still prefer National Security roles,” he stated.

“You can get someone a security job at AngloGold with a salary of GH¢3,000 to GH¢5,000, and they will still demand to work with National Security—even if they’ll be paid only GH¢1,000,” he bemoaned.

Aside from the perceived authority that comes with the role, Mr. Gbande remarked, “It appears some people just need the ID cards to pursue their own agenda. So, it is not about how lucrative the job is.”

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr. Gbande confirmed that a committee has been tasked to examine the issue, and its findings will soon be made public.

“There is a committee working on it, and the findings will come out soon. We are weighing the options carefully to strengthen the party and ensure effective governance,” he said.

His comments come in the wake of reports that the NDC is preparing to issue a directive requiring all government appointees who also hold party positions to resign from their party roles.

The proposed move, reportedly backed by the Political Committee, Functional Executive Committee, and Council of Elders, is aimed at reinforcing party structures and restoring accountability.

But Gbande cautioned that the matter should not be viewed as a power struggle or a rejection by the President.

“It is not that President Mahama doesn’t want people to hold party positions. In fact, he wants those in government to remain loyal and accountable to the party base,” Gbande explained.

He added that because President Mahama is often occupied with national duties, it is important to have party-aligned individuals in government who can “check and balance” decisions and remain in touch with the grassroots.

“Where the President is, he can be busy all day and not know what is happening at the grassroots. That is why party executives in government are important—to keep the connection between government and the people,” he said.

Mr. Gbande stressed that anyone appointed by the President but who fails to serve the people or pushes personal agendas over party priorities will be held accountable.

Mustapha appointment

“If you are an appointee and your personal agenda becomes more important than the party’s goals, then you are not serving the President. And we won’t sit back and allow anyone to undermine what the party has fought for,” he warned.

He revealed that about 70% of government appointees under the Mahama administration are people with deep roots in the party, mentioning names like Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Kofi Boah, and Kwame Agboga.

“These are not technocrats brought in from outside. They are grassroots people, and that shows the President’s commitment to building a party-government bridge,” he said.

Despite serving in the Presidency, Mr. Gbande stressed his personal loyalty to the party above all.

“Given the chance, I will still choose party work. I’m not a statesman. I’m a political person, and my commitment is to the party,” he said.

He concluded by urging appointees to act in ways that reflect the values and intentions of President Mahama.

“When the President is not around, you as an appointee must act as he would. If you don’t, then you’re creating problems for the party—and we will not allow that.”

Mustapha Gbande ‘exposes’ NPP over Ablekuma North rerun [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/mustapha-gbande-exposes-npp-over-ablekuma-north-rerun-listen/ Thu, 10 Jul 2025 12:11:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2553696

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has urged Ghanaians to disregard the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) claims of boycotting the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Gbande accused the NPP of being dishonest, alleging that party operatives are actively campaigning at night in the constituency despite public pronouncements of a boycott.

“The NPP is part of the election but is lying to Ghanaians about boycotting. They are disingenuous and go to campaign at night,” he asserted.

Mr. Gbande challenged the NPP to officially communicate its decision to withdraw from the election to the Electoral Commission (EC).

“The NPP should be bold enough to write to the Electoral Commission and officially inform them that they are withdrawing, so their candidate’s name can be taken off the ballot paper,” he stated.

He suggested the boycott claims stem from internal party assessments that project an imminent defeat in what was once an NPP stronghold.

“After an assessment, they have realised their candidate will lose and wish to change her but can’t. They know she did nothing as an ambassador, and even as a former MP, she has no track record. That’s why she lost the primaries in 2020.”

“Ablekuma North was one of the constituencies the NDC won, but the NPP wanted to use police intimidation to snatch it from us. That won’t work,” Mr. Gbande declared.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled a rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency after disruptions during the December 2024 parliamentary elections prevented full collation of results.

The NPP has described the rerun as illegal and in contempt of court and declared it would not take part.

However, an injunction application filed at the Accra High Court to halt the EC’s decision was dismissed on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. The party is yet to publicly rescind its boycott stance.

National Cathedral scandal: Akufo-Addo should be standing trial – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/national-cathedral-scandal-akufo-addo-should-be-standing-trial-mustapha-gbande/ Thu, 10 Jul 2025 11:47:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2553660 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has taken a swipe at former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, calling for him to be held accountable over the National Cathedral project.

According to Gbande, Akufo-Addo should be prosecuted for what he described as a fraudulent and scandalous implementation of the cathedral, which has consumed millions of dollars in public funds without yielding any results.

“Right now, what do we do with the pit? Nana Addo should be standing trial for that. His dream to build a cathedral was implemented in a fictitious and fraudulent way,” Mr. Gbande stated on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

He insisted that the NDC never opposed the idea of a cathedral but rather the questionable handling and lack of transparency surrounding its execution.

“The NDC never bastardised the National Cathedral. Former President Akufo-Addo mentioned God, but when they started the implementation, you didn’t need anybody to tell you it was a scandal. They spent $57 million, and all they left was a pit. Do you think in good conscience that it is not a scandal? So that was what we criticised,” he said.

Mr. Gbande also questioned the location of the project, expressing regret over the demolition of key state buildings in Accra’s central business district to make way for the facility.

“We also had issues with the siting of the cathedral. They demolished a lot of big and important buildings to make way for the cathedral in the central heart of the city when they could have taken it to Akuapem, Ada, or any other part of the country to drive development,” he added.

The National Cathedral project was launched in 2017 and was expected to be commissioned on March 6, 2024, during the second term of former President Akufo-Addo. It was billed as a monumental Christian worship centre and a national symbol of Ghana’s religious heritage, with plans to include a large sanctuary, museum, and facilities for conferences and religious events.

However, the project has been dogged by controversy over its financing, particularly amid Ghana’s economic challenges. Critics have argued that the over $58 million already spent could have been better used to address critical needs in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

In May 2025, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia acknowledged that the uncompleted National Cathedral project significantly undermined public trust and became a major source of voter discontent.

Meanwhile, the NDC under former President John Mahama has proposed converting the stalled project into a National Cultural Convention Centre. Despite this, the National Cathedral Secretariat insists the original vision remains intact and is still being pursued.

Ablekuma North Rerun: NPP isn’t our competitor, they’re participants – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/ablekuma-north-rerun-npp-isnt-our-competitor-theyre-participants-mustapha-gbande/ Thu, 10 Jul 2025 06:52:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2553507 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has dismissed claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it is boycotting the upcoming parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Wednesday, July 9, Mr. Gbande asserted that the NPP remains a participant in the election since its candidate’s name is still on the ballot.

“The NPP is not our competitor in this election. They are participants in the election and have chosen to paint the picture as if they have withdrawn. But they are in the election because, on the ballot paper, their candidate is still there,” he said.

He challenged the NPP to make its position official. “I am daring the NPP to write to the Electoral Commission and officially inform them that they are withdrawing,” he stated.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled a rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency, following disruptions that prevented full collation of results during the December 2024 parliamentary elections.

While the NPP has described the rerun as illegal and in contempt of court—and declared it would not take part—Mr. Gbande rejected those claims, accusing the party of using the controversy to distract from its internal disunity and poor track record.

“The NPP knows that when they were given power for eight years, Ablekuma North, which is one of their constituencies, was left underdeveloped. They didn’t spare the area from their fraud and deception,” he said.

He further criticised former President Akufo-Addo for allegedly neglecting the constituency despite its loyalty to the NPP. “When President Akufo-Addo was taking internet and asphalt to his village in Kyebi, he forgot that Ablekuma North was one of their strongholds.”

Mr. Gbande added that public discourse continues to damage the NPP’s electoral standing: “Each time you allow the NPP to participate in public discourse, they lose votes because they lack the credibility and moral integrity to participate in any election.”

He described the NPP as “disorganised, dismantled, divided,” and incapable of mounting a credible campaign.

“I dare say, what President Akufo-Addo and his people have done to this country cannot be forgotten just within eight months or seven months. It is still on the conscience of Ghanaians that the NPP’s eight years were a national fraud,” he stressed.

According to Mr. Gbande, the rerun will proceed with or without the NPP’s full participation.

“They also know that their candidate cannot win this election. If they had the opportunity, they would have changed their candidate,” he added.

Nothing will stop NDC from winning Ablekuma North – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/nothing-will-stop-ndc-from-winning-ablekuma-north-mustapha-gbande/ Wed, 09 Jul 2025 14:43:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2553334 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, says nothing will stop the party from winning the upcoming parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency, scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.

In an interview with JoyNews’ James Avedzi, Gbande expressed strong confidence that the NDC’s candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, will emerge victorious—just as he claims the party did in the original December 2024 election, which was disrupted before a winner could be officially declared.

“Nothing will stop us [NDC] from taking that seat, and we are going back for them [constituents] to conclude on what is in question,” Gbande stated.

He added: “We are ready. Our team is on the ground. The national chairman himself [Johnson Asiedu Nketia] moved to the scene. We are ready for Friday’s election. We sent our agents to participate in the printing of ballot papers, and everything is underway.”

The rerun follows the Electoral Commission’s (EC) failure to declare a winner in the December 2024 parliamentary race due to disturbances and violence involving supporters of both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The chaos forced the EC to suspend the collation process, leaving the seat unclaimed.

Friday’s rerun will be conducted in 19 polling stations to determine the winner of the seat.

The NPP has publicly declared a boycott of the exercise, citing alleged irregularities and a loss of trust in the EC’s handling of the process.

Meanwhile, the Accra High Court has dismissed an injunction application filed by Nana Akua Afriyie, the NPP parliamentary candidate, who sought to stop the rerun, arguing that the EC’s actions contradicted a previous court ruling.

Declaring state of emergency over galamsey premature – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/declaring-state-of-emergency-over-galamsey-premature-mustapha-gbande/ Mon, 23 Jun 2025 09:09:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2547179 A Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency and Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has warned against impulsive calls to declare a state of emergency in response to illegal mining, insisting that the government’s ongoing measures are both visible and effective.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Mr Gbande emphasised that declaring a state of emergency is not a decision to be taken lightly or without solid justification.

He urged the public to support the government’s efforts rather than rush to make drastic demands.

“We shouldn’t be so quick to call for a state of emergency. This is not something you simply impose. Look at the situation today—forest reserves have effectively become no-go areas. We have witnessed calculated, precise military operations targeting these hotspots. The evidence is clear: many of these forest reserves are being reclaimed,” he explained.

Highlighting improvements in institutional efficiency, Mr Gbande said, “We are making sure that the responsible institutions are not only functioning but operating more effectively than ever before. Would you say we are doing nothing? Should we suddenly declare a state of emergency now, when the cedi is stabilising and the economy is showing signs of revival largely thanks to gold regulations?”

He also praised the commitment of key government officials, noting, “As far as I’m concerned, I have already spoken about the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources’ dedication and contribution. For the first time, I have also highlighted the unprecedented resolve of the Minister for the Interior, under whose watch offenders are being extradited and arrested.”

Mr Gbande further reminded Ghanaians that, “The government has made it absolutely clear that anyone involved in illegal mining will face the full force of the law. It is therefore incumbent upon all of us to expose those, both within and outside government, who have engaged in or supported illegal mining.”

He emphasised the need for careful management, stating, “This is a matter we must handle with tact,” rather than rushing into decisions.

Mustapha Gbande apologises over Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift saga [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/mustapha-gbande-apologises-over-sammy-gyamfis-dollar-gift-saga-video/ Wed, 14 May 2025 07:06:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2534753 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has issued a public apology on behalf of the party and the government following the controversial dollar gift incident involving the acting CEO of Goldbod, Sammy Gyamfi.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, 11 May, and has since gone viral on social media, shows Mr. Gyamfi handing dollars to a self-styled preacher, Nana Agradaa, after a brief exchange.

The footage sparked public backlash and reignited conversations about ethical leadership.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Mr. Gbande admitted that while Mr. Gyamfi’s actions were not unlawful, they were inappropriate given his status and the sensitivity of the political landscape.

“At this point, I would like to align myself with a number of reasonable Ghanaians who say, ‘Okay, it should never have happened, it shouldn’t happen again.’ He hasn’t broken the law, but we think that because of where he is, it shouldn’t have happened,” Mr. Gbande said.

He noted that although the gesture may have been well-intentioned, its execution did not resonate well with the public. “That gesture, even though it was of good intention, didn’t sit well with a lot of people. I think they are right, and we take responsibility and join our colleague to still apologise to the people of Ghana. It will never happen again. We would keep learning,” he added.

However, Mr. Gbande, who’s also a presidential staffer, criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as hypocritical criticism, questioning their moral authority on matters of corruption.

“It doesn’t give anybody from the NPP the audacity to sit on TV and want to criticise this matter because they don’t have any moral credibility as far as corruption-related offences are concerned. They themselves represent corruption,” he asserted.

The NDC’s apology comes amidst growing calls from civil society and political observers for accountability and discipline in political office, especially in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

Afenyo-Markin should bow his head in shame – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/afenyo-markin-should-bow-his-head-in-shame-mustapha-gbande/ Wed, 07 May 2025 07:47:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2532413 Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has criticised the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, over his altercation with a policeman during the #SaveTheJudiciary demonstration on Monday, May 5, 2025.

According to him, Afenyo-Markin must bow his head in shame over the act of violence he allegedly exhibited.

In a viral video that has sparked widespread condemnation, Mr Afenyo-Markin was captured visibly agitated while attempting to hit an officer behind a barricade during the protest.

However, the Effutu MP clarified in a statement that his reaction was a protest against the actions of an officer he identified as Constable Forson, denying allegations that he was the aggressor.

He alleged that Constable Forson struck him forcefully in the chest near his heart as he approached the barricade to present a petition.

Afenyo-Markin noted that senior police officers and colleagues promptly intervened, offering him water to help him regain composure before he presented the petition.

But in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Gbande, who also serves as the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, alleged otherwise.

He claimed that Afenyo-Markin slapped the police officer unprovoked, and therefore, the officer cannot be accused of being the aggressor.

“A few years ago, policemen were used to stop even protesting MPs from going to the EC’s office, but now, they even had the chance to go to the Jubilee House.

“Afenyo-Markin, who is the leader of the Minority and in whom the NPP pins its hopes, slapped a police officer. The NPP and Afenyo-Markin should bow their heads in shame,” he claimed.

In a related development, while the police have invited Mr Afenyo-Markin as part of investigations, the lawmaker has also lodged a formal complaint and petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate and institute disciplinary action against the said policeman.

Mahama’s rumoured third term is a desperate lie – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/mahamas-rumoured-third-term-is-a-desperate-lie-mustapha-gbande/ Wed, 07 May 2025 06:48:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2532393 Deputy NDC General Secretary Mustapha Gbande has blasted the opposition NPP for what he calls a desperate attempt to stir public fear over a nonexistent third-term ambition by President John Mahama.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, he accused the NPP of resorting to “rumour-mongering and paranoia” in the face of legal and constitutional processes they clearly oppose but cannot stop.

“One, it is no longer just that Chief Justice Torkornoo was unfairly treated, but that they can see into the future that President Mahama would have to do a third term. And for that, they are scared,” said the Director of Operations at the Presidency.

When asked directly whether President Mahama intends to pursue a third term, Gbande retorted, “Evans, why are we being invited into this distracting conversation? Is it in the place of the NPP to determine constitutional interpretation?”

He described the claims as a tactic to divert attention from the core issue at hand—the constitutionally sanctioned suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo—saying, “They are inviting President Mahama to do a great injustice to the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.”

Mustapha Gbande warned that such political games risk damaging institutions far beyond the NDC or Mahama.

“The manner in which they are politicising this whole matter would injure the Chief Justice herself,” he cautioned. “You are further exposing the Chief Justice politically and aligning her to a particular opinion or argument from a group of people, which is not fair to her.”

He lashed out at the NPP for hypocrisy and selective outrage, questioning why the party was suddenly concerned about commentary from NDC members while ignoring the initial leaks and coverage by media figures aligned with them.

“Why is it that Egyapa Mercer is accusing Sammy Gyamfi and Edudzi of commenting on the matter, when Paul Adom-Otchere was the one who actually serialised the Chief Justice’s response and put it out there?” he asked. “Why are they running away from that conversation?”

Mustapha Gbande insisted that the NPP had no moral ground to question the process since it was rooted in law, not public sentiment.

“They have demonstrated, but at the end of the day, the inconsistencies with which they have finished their demonstration is my trouble,” he said.

He argued that the protest itself, which brought thousands of NPP supporters into Accra, proved the point that constitutional freedoms were intact and being exercised, even as the same demonstrators alleged their rights were being undermined.

“In fact, to demonstrate early morning, bringing people from Winneba and Kumasi to come and protest in Accra, that is a right given to them by the same Constitution they claim is under threat,” Mustapha Gbande said.

He called on the NPP to “hasten slowly” and stop projecting imaginary scenarios as facts.

“Tomorrow, if people come out to say things that even border on criminality as far as the Chief Justice is concerned, the NPP will be put to shame,” he warned.

Mustapha Gbande concluded that if the NPP truly cared about the judiciary, they would allow due process to take its course instead of dragging judges into political crossfire and manufacturing fear over constitutional ghosts that don’t exist.

NPP’s CJ protest was just a popularity test – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/npps-cj-protest-was-just-a-popularity-test-mustapha-gbande/ Tue, 06 May 2025 06:15:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2531770 Deputy NDC General Secretary Mustapha Gbande has rubbished the NPP’s protest against the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, saying the demonstration was unnecessary and politically self-serving.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, May 5, he said the NPP’s march was not about defending the judiciary but rather an attempt to flex political muscle after its 2024 electoral defeat.

“Perhaps they just wanted to test their popularity, which is good,” he remarked. “Nobody underestimated the NPP and their membership. The argument has never been that because the NPP lost an election, their party has collapsed. It is still a strong political party, and we respect that.”

But the Director of Operations at the Presidency was firm that the demonstration achieved nothing of value.

“At the end of the day, they failed to drive home anything because, clearly, there was no need for the demonstration in the first place,” he said. “All the things they talked about have already been spoken of. People have shared opinions. Some agree, others disagree.”

He argued that while the right to protest is guaranteed, it cannot override constitutional processes already in motion.

“The demonstrators derive their powers from a constitution—their right to demonstrate—and they’ve done so,” Mustapha Gbande acknowledged. “But the same Constitution requires that certain processes be followed in certain decisions.”

“I don’t think demonstrations have concentrated enough structures that can displace decisions being taken based on constitutionally provided guidelines,” he added. “So we should respect that same Constitution and allow the processes to continue.”

Mustapha Gbande’s comments came in direct response to fellow guest and NPP member Andrew Egyapa Mercer, who touted the large turnout at the protest as a sign of the party’s strength. But the Deputy NDC General Secretary was unimpressed.

“At the end of the day, it is not the place of the NPP, my brother Egyapa Mercer, or Alexander Afenyo-Markin to determine whether or not all of these processes give fidelity or find fidelity with the law,” he said.

The protest, which drew support from other opposition parties together with the NPP, was staged in Accra over what the opposition has called a “dangerous interference” in the judiciary after President John Mahama suspended the Chief Justice.

Mustapha Gbande maintained that the President acted within his constitutional authority and that critics should allow the legal process to take its course without politicising the matter.

“Let’s not turn constitutional issues into a street contest,” he said. “The law is the law. If we all respect the Constitution, we should let the proper institutions do their work.”

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has defended the operations of National Security following recent raids at the homes of former government officials.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mustapha emphasized that National Security operatives would not invade individuals’ homes without a valid reason.

This defense comes after a raid on the private residence of Supt. Yakubu Issahaku, Aide Du Camp to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at Sapeiman on Saturday.

Issahaku reported being informed by a friend via WhatsApp around 6:14 p.m. that about 30 masked and armed military personnel had forcibly entered his home, ransacking the property and causing significant damage.

Among the reported damages were broken security doors, disconnected CCTV systems, and the removal of internet routers, switches, and the home’s hard disk.

Mustapha explained that National Security could have acted based on intelligence, stating, “I may not have all the details because of job description and capacity, but I do know that National Security will not invade anybody’s premise without a cause, at least I can speak for this crop of operatives.”

He added that if information or a tip-off suggests the harboring or concealment of stolen or wanted goods, a search is necessary to verify the claims.

Despite concerns about the raids, Mustapha assured that more arrests are anticipated moving forward.

The Nigerian businessman, Ben Peters who was arrested at the Aurora Apartments in Kanda, near the Jubilee House for blocking the main entrance has been granted bail.

The Deputy Director of Operations at the Jubilee House, Mustapha Gbande confirmed the bail in an interview on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem.

Mr. Peters was arrested in a Police operation on Monday after his action left several occupants stranded.

Mr. Gbande revealed that he was taken into custody with his statement taken.

He said the team had to call for reinforcements after Peters allegedly threatened to shoot anyone who approached.

Security forces eventually overpowered the armed men, entered the apartment, and arrested Peters.

“As it stands, he is a suspect for roadblock and many other offences that would have taken place and the cause of that unlawful conduct. The Police are looking into that,” he said.

He noted about 20 of Mr. Peters’ men are currently in custody although others absconded.

However, he expressed confidence that the number of people arrested so far are enough to build a case.

“How can one person have more than 10 bodyguards? If it is a security set up does he have the licence? So the Police will investigate and deal with all those involved,” he stated.

Mr. Peters, who is currently in police custody, was apprehended on Monday during a joint operation by National Security operatives, the police, and the military.

The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, confirmed the incident during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme.

He revealed that the operation followed a distress call indicating that Peters had taken control of the entrance to the apartment complex with about 40 heavily armed men, leaving residents unable to enter or exit.

“The apartment is just about 800 metres from the Jubilee House. They blocked the place such that no individual could go in or come out. They were dressed like National Security operatives, but our checks revealed they were not,” Mr. Gbande stated.

He said the team had to call for reinforcements after Peters allegedly threatened to shoot anyone who approached.

“He told us he owns about eight apartments but was given only one key. He demanded more keys, and when management told him the keys were being made in Israel, he got alarmed and decided to block the entrance,” he explained.

Security forces eventually overpowered the armed men, entered the apartment, and arrested Peters.

“Nobody can come into our country and hold our people to ransom. This act is illegal and unacceptable. Such conduct would not be tolerated in Nigeria and certainly not here,” Mr. Gbande stressed.

The call of the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) is in connection with the over 1,300 ECG containers which have gone missing at the Tema Port.

Mr. Gbande has stated that the trio muct be held accountable for the disappearance given their various past roles in the operations of ECG.

“The Board Chairman, Afenyo-Markin now wants to run away from responsibility and it is in the interest of the country for him to be arrested immediately.

“I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Maham and Matthew Opoku Prempeh because we cannot continue to have these instances of corruption, and it is time for us to take action,” he stated in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.

The Energy Minister, John Jinapor last week revealed that a committee set up to investigate containers packed at the Tema Port on his assumption of office, indicated that over 1,300 containers could not be accounted for.

He said preliminary investigations had shown that the disappearances, orchestrated by a syndicate, had been happening since 2019.

Following an intelligence-led operation, so far, 10 foreign nationals and four Ghanaians have been arrested in connection with the missing containers.

Galamsey: NPP wants NDC to fail because they’ve failed – Mustapha Gbande https://www.adomonline.com/galamsey-npp-wants-ndc-to-fail-because-theyve-failed-mustapha-gbande/ Wed, 26 Mar 2025 20:13:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2519254

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has dismissed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) criticisms of the government, stating that the party is only seeking to project failure onto the NDC because of its shortcomings in governance.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, March 26, Mr. Gbande argued that the NPP’s accusations regarding the NDC government’s fight against illegal mining lacked substance and were merely attempts to deflect from their failures between 2016 and 2024.

He was responding to a press conference held by the NPP’s Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, on the government’s efforts to combat illegal mining, locally known as galamsey.

“You, as much as I do, know there was nothing of substance in what they said. The NPP believes that because they have failed as a government, the NDC should also fail.

“But what they don’t realise is that, at the end of the day, we have a country to build and people to take care of. The mere fact that they failed doesn’t mean we will also fail,” he stated.

Mr. Gbande acknowledged that Ghanaians expect a firm government policy to combat galamsey but insisted that the issue was not exclusive to one political party.

“This happened under President Akufo-Addo, and it’s happening under President Mahama,” he said.

“Very soon, the NPP will cry foul, and we will respond to their call with evidence to show that in the forest reserve, the people who have gained appetite to mine in the forest reserves, either through the president’s approval, which President Akufo-Addo gave, or through illegal means, are all NPP people, and that no NDC person is in that forest.”

He urged patience from Ghanaians, noting that the new government is still setting up and cannot be expected to resolve an eight-year-long problem in just three months.

“The government is barely three months old, and of course, Ghanaians would expect the government to come out with a strong policy direction. Do you think that you can compare the failure of a government in eight years to fight galamsey to a government that is barely three months old?” he quizzed.

“I will plead that Ghanaians and ourselves would exercise some patience and allow the government to clamp down on these negative operations happening around our forest reserves and our water bodies.”

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has criticized those opposing businessman Richard Jakpa’s role in leading operations at the homes of former government appointees.

According to Gbande, critics are simply afraid of Jakpa and are attempting to undermine him.

He questioned what wrong Jakpa had committed, stating that a thief doesn’t decide who arrests them, and that it is solely the prerogative of President Mahama to change Jakpa’s position.

Gbande firmly believes Jakpa will continue his work impartially, despite the criticisms.

“If I was the one leading it, would they have been happy? Do they have to disparage him instead of looking at the substance of what he’s doing?” he asked.

He also condemned remarks by Afenyo-Markin, stating it was demeaning to suggest soldiers on official duty would steal money, and insisted that Jakpa would bring accountability to those involved in any wrongdoing.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned Jakpa’s involvement in recent searches, which they have called “raids” on the homes of former appointees.

Despite criticism, Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Justice Srem Sai, defended the operation, clarifying that it was conducted in accordance with the law and that a warrant had been procured.

The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille Jr., has rebuked the Deputy Director of Operations at the presidency, Mustapha Gbande, following allegations made against him.

Mr. Gbande, who also serves as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary, had accused Mr. Faibille of hoarding a state vehicle despite leaving office.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he claimed that several former appointees, including Mr. Faibille, still had their vehicles. His revelation contradicted former President Akufo-Addo’s directive for his appointees to return the vehicles by January 3, 2025.

However, Mr. Faibille vehemently dismissed the claims, stating that there was not an iota of truth in them.

He expressed shock that a Deputy Director of Operations would come on live radio to make such unverified claims.

“I am very surprised that a whole Director of Operations at the Presidency would come on a reputable radio station to spew lies. I was given a letter by Dr. Callistus Mahama on the 17th of January, revoking my appointment at about 4 p.m. when I was already winding up. The first thing I did was call the transport manager of the Commission. I made her aware that I had two vehicles—one saloon and a V8—and requested that they send drivers to come and pick them. They received it and signed, so in what capacity will Mustapha Gbande come and make such an allegation against me?”

Mr. Faibille added that he could not understand why anyone would make such allegations that could lead to public disaffection against him.

However, Mr. Gbande, who felt he had been caught, attempted to amend his statement, calling Mr. Faibille his brother.

In a sharp rebuttal, Mr. Faibille fumed, “We’re not brothers. Don’t call me your brother; we’re not from the same region. Don’t make that mistake,” effectively silencing Mustapha Gbande.

He further cautioned Mustapha to focus on his work and to respect himself while discharging his duties.

Mr. Gbande has stated that the NDC supporters are only protecting state properties and not looting, as purported.

In an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, he emphasized the NDC’s commitment to peace and collaboration with law enforcement agencies to maintain calm.

“The young people of this country are determined to change the narrative, where government property and funds are stolen with impunity,” Mr. Gbande stated.

“It is unfortunate, but I think we should appreciate those who are sacrificing to preserve and protect state property,” he said.

He further contended that the allegations of theft were unwarranted.

“If they were stealing and taking these assets home, that would be a different matter,” he remarked.

“However, if they are moving to protect state assets from being taken away by government officials, then it is a situation that the party has recognized and is addressing,” he added.

Mr. Gbande assured that the NDC has taken the matter seriously and was actively engaging with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to restore calm.

Additionally, he said the NDC was engaging with individuals from the immediate past government to help bring stability.

“We are dealing with this in a manner that ensures the protection of state assets and upholds the rule of law,” he assured.

This caution comes in response to reports of unlawful takeovers and destruction of state assets linked to individuals associated with the NDC.

In a statement dated December 11, Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande called for calm and adherence to lawful conduct among party supporters.

He emphasized that, any suspicions of theft or misuse of government property should be reported to the police for proper investigation and action.

Mr Gbande specifically addressed NDC youth organizers and regional and constituency executives, urging them to take the lead in preventing such actions.

He stressed the importance of respecting due process during the transition period and ensuring that NPP-affiliated officials are not harassed or impeded in their roles until the transition is complete.

“Report any NPP member found in possession of government assets to the police, and ensure the proper basis for such possession is established. The police should impound any questionable assets pending further investigation,” he stated.

He further advised against unauthorized entry into government offices or disruption of operations, noting that such acts would undermine the ongoing transition.

“Ensure no one seizes government assets—whether consumables, fixtures, or relief items—without police involvement, as this constitutes theft,” he added.

Additionally, Mustapha Gbande urged vigilance over post-election recruitment by government agencies, instructing supporters to report such activities to their constituency or regional chairmen.

The NDC emphasized that discipline and lawful behaviour are crucial as the party prepares to assume governance responsibilities, advocating for a smooth and peaceful transition.

Be bold and tell Ghanaians that dumsor is back – Mustapha Gbande to NPP https://www.adomonline.com/be-bold-and-tell-ghanaians-that-dumsor-is-back-mustapha-gbande-to-npp/ Wed, 06 Nov 2024 10:11:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468974 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the current government to acknowledge the ongoing intermittent power supply issues, popularly known as ‘dumsor.’

The NDC argues that the government is intentionally avoiding an official acknowledgment of the power crisis and has not yet released a load-shedding timetable.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi News, NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande urged the government to address the situation openly and consider practical solutions.

“Can someone within the NPP, under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, be honest enough to admit that, indeed, we are back to dumsor, as President Mahama did?” he questioned.

“It’s a matter of honesty—those willing to be truthful to Ghanaians versus those who refuse to acknowledge reality. They misled us, which led us to this point. This is a group that seems to disregard truthfulness entirely. They have consistently withheld the truth from Ghanaians yet are asking for another chance from the people.”

“They’re afraid that admitting to dumsor would hurt them politically, but the ordinary voter who endures these outages feels the impact firsthand,” he added.

Peter Kwakye forged signatures in the NDC primaries – Mustapha Gbande alleges https://www.adomonline.com/peter-kwakye-forged-signatures-in-the-ndc-primaries-mustapha-gbande-alleges/ Tue, 29 Oct 2024 08:48:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465541 The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has accused Amenfi Central Member of Parliament, Peter Kwakye Ackah, of forging signatures during the NDC primaries.

This accusation follows Ackah’s announcement that he intends to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming December 7 general election after the Speaker of Parliament declared his parliamentary seat vacant.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues, Mustapha Gbande revealed that “during the nomination process, the MP made several errors and was asked to correct them. Later, we discovered that he had forged signatures once again.”

“When we confronted him, he demanded that his opponent be declared unopposed, only to challenge her later. Despite this, we showed leniency and did not expel him from the party.”

The Deputy General Secretary stressed that the NDC will not support or welcome Ackah back into the party, even if he wins the seat in future elections.

“Peter Kwakye Ackah will never be accepted back into the NDC, regardless of election results. His return would only be possible in our absence, and the party will provide him with no support,” he said.

If it’ll take my blood to ensure NPP is not in power in 2025; I’ll do so – Mustapha Gbande  https://www.adomonline.com/if-itll-take-my-blood-to-ensure-npp-is-not-in-power-in-2025-ill-do-so-mustapha-gbande/ Wed, 18 Sep 2024 16:03:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2450635 A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has said the party will not relent in its quest to win the 2024 election.

Mustapha Gbande has said he will not mind if it will take his blood for the NDC to be sworn in as the next government in January 2025.

Mr Gbande made the declaration on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, programme Wednesday stating the NDC is actively campaigning to win the election.

“If it’ll take my blood to ensure NPP is not in power in 2025; we will do so. We are actively working to achieve that because the NPP is not on the ground.

“Apart from following Napo and Bawumia around, they are not doing anything. Let any NPP executive show me evidence that they are working,” he stated.

He was confident the efforts of the NDC outweigh the New Patriotic Party(NPP) which gives them an upper hand in the December 7 polls.

Mustapha further cited that concerns raised by NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua that some government appointees have lost touch with their base is evident.

“The NPP General Secretary confirmed it so the party is hanging. The NDC go through the same pain as the NPP but we will not sit and watch for our appointees to disgrace the NDC in this manner.

“Some people want to work smart and others hard but I will work hard and touch base with the grassroots. But in as much has knowledge has failed the NPP, they must be guided by wisdom and not do anything that will bring problem in Ghana,” he stated.
