Fixtures are slated for December 30 through to January 1, marking a busy end to the year for clubs still in contention.

A total of 31 teams have already secured their spots, comprising 12 from the Premier League, 16 from the Division One League, and three from the lower tiers.

Record champions Hearts of Oak will not be involved after their shocking elimination by True Life FC.

However, several notable contenders remain, including two-time winners Medeama SC and the 2023 champions Dreams FC.

FC Samartex, Nations FC, Aduana FC, Berekum Chelsea, Swedru All Blacks, Eleven Wonders, and Karela United also make up a competitive lineup.

From Division One, former top-flight sides FC AshantiGold, King Faisal, Real Tamale United, Inter Allies, Port City FC, Attram De Visser, and WAFA SC are among those looking to make deep runs in the tournament.

The final slot will be decided when Future Stars face giants Asante Kotoko on December 10.

Qualified Round of 32 teams:

The dates are in alignment with the 23rd FIFA World Cup, scheduled for June 11 to July 19, 2026, ensuring that all elite domestic competitions conclude before the commencement of the global showpiece.

With Congress set for August 12, 2025, the Ghana Football Association will ensure that the MTN FA Cup starts on time and ends in May 2026, in line with the approved FIFA calendar for all Member Associations.

Only selected matches in the Round of 64 and the Round of 63 may be played midweek, while all Women’s FA Cup matches will take place on weekends.

The GFA is committed to the effective execution of this calendar to ensure a vibrant, competitive, and well-coordinated football season across all levels.

The lower-tier side suffered a 2-1 loss to the Porcupine Warriors on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Kotoko opened the scoring through Kwame Opoku’s header before Bless Ege equalised with a stunning free-kick to end the first half 1-1.

However, after a spirited performance from Golden Kick, Kotoko were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the game after Opoku was brought down in the 18-yard box.

Despite strong protests from Golden Kick, Opoku stepped up and converted the spot-kick to seal the win for Karim Zito’s side.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show after the game, Epton said he was disappointed with the officiating.
“It was a keenly contested game, but I wasn’t happy with the officiating. The penalty decision was a poor one,” he said.

Despite the defeat, he praised his players for their efforts.
“My players were excellent on the day, but it’s football, and we’ll have to keep our heads up.”

Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the 2024/25 FA Cup.

The semifinal clash, held at the TNA Park, saw Golden Kick assert early control over the match.

Their efforts paid off in the 16th minute when Attram De Visser’s goalkeeper, Dawuud Ishaque, inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Golden Kick doubled their advantage just seven minutes later through a well-taken strike from David Amuzu, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

The second half began just as the first ended, with Golden Kick in full command. Bless Ege added a third goal two minutes after the restart, all but sealing the outcome of the match.

After the Round of 16 matches over the weekend, Arthur claimed that clubs use spiritual means to manipulate match outcomes and influence refereeing decisions.

He suggested that referees, players, and coaches are often affected by these supernatural practices.

“The league has so many matches with significant stakes,” he told Asempa FM on Monday. “People must understand that it’s competitive, and some see such means as part of the process to win. Referees are always put under a spell. The referees are worked on, the players and coaches are worked on spiritually,” he added.

However, Fianoo strongly opposed these statements, insisting that such claims are inappropriate for someone in Arthur’s position.

“The chairman of the FA Cup (Wilson Arthur) committee should resign for making unguarded statements,” he told Asempa FM.

On Saturday, May 11, Nsoatreman FC will face Legon Cities. Nsoatreman with an impressive five goals scored, and yet to concede, will look to continue their dominant streak.

Under Paa Kwesi Fabin’s guidance, Legon Cities have focused on the FA Cup for silverware this season amid a mid-table finish in the Ghana Premier League.

On Sunday, May 12, defending champions Dreams FC take on Bofoakwa Tano. Dreams FC, led by Karim Zito, aims for a back-to-back final appearance after winning last season.

Despite league inconsistencies, they’ve shown prowess in cup competitions, reaching the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Bofoakwa Tano, like Dreams FC, has conceded only one goal in the competition but scored two fewer goals.

John Eduafo’s side overcame Skyy FC in a penalty shootout to secure their semifinal spot.

Dreams FC’s journey to the semis has seen them concede just one goal and score eight in four matches, while Bofoakwa Tano has matched them defensively but scored fewer goals on their path to this stage.

The approval of the Cup game has resulted in the rescheduling of the Karela United vs Asante Kotoko game as well as the tie between Nsoatreman FC and Berekum Chelsea.

Karela United will now host Asante Kotoko at Aliu Mahama Stadium on Tuesday, February 13, while Berekum Chelsea trek to Nsoatre to take on Nsoatreman FC at Nana Konamansa Park on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

After beating Basake Holy Stars in their outstanding Round of 64 games, two-time champions Medeama SC will face Skyy FC in the next stage.

These pairings were confirmed at the Round of 32 draw that took place at the studio of Max TV in Accra on Wednesday.

Other interesting matches in the next stage of the competition will see Wa Power FC take on RTU.

Fresh from slaying Hearts of Oak SC in the Round of 64, Nania FC will face another tough opponent in Great Olympics.

The round of 32 games will be played from January 5-8,2024.

The Phobians hosted lower side, Nania FC in the round of 64 games at Pobiman on Wednesday afternoon.

At the end of the 90 minutes of action between the two clubs, the game ended goalless.

With the game forced to be settled through the penalty shootout, Nania FC have beaten Hearts of Oak 4-3 to go through the Round 32 stage of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup.

Unhappy with the result, some Hearts of Oak fans stayed behind after the game to boo the players.

They accused the players of playing poorly and not doing enough to win the game.

The result only compounds the problems Hearts of Oak has been facing since the sacking of coach Samuel Boadu.

The coach while at the helm of affairs, won the MTN FA Cup title back-to-back and also lifted the Ghana Premier League title.

Since his departure, Hearts of Oak have failed to win any trophy.

Hearts of Oak will now turn their attention to the Ghana Premier League where they travel to Aduana FC in the matchday 13 games at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park this weekend.

Great Olympics will also host Golden Kicks FC at the Accra Sports Stadium with King Faisal FC also set to travel to the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex as guests of Namoro FC.

The remaining matches will be played on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 and Thursday, November 30, 2023.

The 1978 African Footballer of the Year, Abdul Razak and top defender Frimpong Manso, who played for Kumasi Asante Kotoko think the community gala is another platform to identify and groom future stars.

The tournament, which will bring excitement to Kumasi, has 16 teams contesting for Ghc20,000 winning prize at stake.

Abdul Razak aka the Golden Boy said at the launch of the 2023 edition “Now the league has ended, no Premiership. No Division One or Division Two. They are all off. This time the MTN Community Gala is coming on that is where we are going to get players so the standard will be very high.”

Frimong Manso expressed that the competition is a big platform for both players and agents to achieve something special.

“There are certain players who don’t get the opportunity of playing at the highest level,” Frimpong Manso said at the launch of the event.

“With this community gala, you get to see players and agents come to the venue [to watch]. They even like those players because they are not affiliated with any club.”

Communities competing include Asafo, Amakom, Bantama, South Suntreso, Abuakwa, Santasi, Ahodwo, Atonso, Ahinsan, Tech and Ayigya.

Others are Aboabo, Asawasi, Oforikrom, Asokore Mampong, Krofrom, Suame, Tafo, Abrepo, Bremang, Bohyen, Mamponteng, Kronum, Magazine and Afrancho.

Old Tafo, the reigning champions hope to defend their title but it will not be easy as other teams are coming well prepared.

All participating teams will receive Ghc3,000 each for preparation, and the winner takes home Ghc20,000, the runner-up gets Ghc10,000 and 3rd gets Ghc5,000.

The Still Believe lads recorded a 2-0 win over the Insha Allah lads at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese.

Aziz Issah broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a beautiful solo effort.

King Faisal, who have suffered relegation from the just-ended Ghana Premier League. were determined to score before the end of the first half but the solid defense of Dreams FC kept their shape and power to end the first 45 minutes with a win.

After recess, Sadiq Alhasson, who had just come off the bench, made an instant impact by finding the back of the net in the 70th minute to increase the tally for Karim Zito’s side.

Dreams FC’s path to the final was no easy feat. In the semifinals, they faced a tough challenge from Skyy FC, eventually prevailing with a 2-1 victory. King Faisal, on the other hand, overcame Nsoatreman in a thrilling encounter that ended 3-2, earning their place in the final.

The victory holds even greater significance for Karim Zito’s men as it secures their place as Ghana’s representative for the upcoming 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup campaign. 

This was made known at the launch of the MTN Ashantifest community soccer competition, which was launched in Kumasi on Wednesday. The ceremony was held at the company’s Kaase Office.

Dreams FC will compete in the final of the FA Cup for the first time against King Faisal on Sunday, but before then the MTN Ashantifest community gala begins.

The gala will be a 16-team Football Competition; each team drawn from a separate community.

Targeted Communities are Asafo, Amakom, Bantama, South Suntreso, Abuakwa, Santasi, Ahodwo, Atonso, Ahinsan, Tech and Ayigya.

The rest are Aboabo, Asawasi, Oforikrom, Asokore Mampong, Krofrom, Suame, Tafo, Abrepo, Bremang, Bohyen, Mamponteng, Kronum, Magazine and Afrancho.

Old Tafo are the defending champions.

The annual Ashantifest was initiated by MTN to engage its existing and potential subscribers in the Ashanti Region due to the absence of any markedly big festival cutting across macro /micro levels across all segments within identified communities.

Some of the activities marking the Ashantifest include walks, market storms, product and service activations, seminars, concerts and football matches for either the communities or MTN FA Cup match when it’s within the Ashantifest period, media engagements, and CSR activities.

Charles Osei Akoto, MTN’s Acting General Manager, Regional Sales and Distribution, Northern Ghana was glad to see so many people gathered.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic had a ruthless impact on society, but after the official end of the pandemic, the cherished Ashantifest is back.

In a communique released on Friday, June 2, the finals of the MTN FA Cup will be the last match that will be played to close the football season.

The crucial encounter between Dreams FC and King Faisal will be played on June 18 with the venue yet to be announced.

“The final of the MTN FA Cup will close the 2022/33 season on Sunday, June 18, 2023,” a statement by the FA read.

“The game between Dreams FC and King Faisal will be preceded by the Women’s FA Cup final.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Premier League season will close on Sunday, June 11 at the various stadia.

Before that, the final round of games in the Access Bank Division One League will be cleared on Sunday, June 04, 2023.

The Issah Allah lads have booked their place in the final of the competition after beating Nsoatreman FC.

King Faisal will now face fellow Premier League side, Dreams FC in the final scheduled to be played on June 17, 2023.

According to Ablordey, Alhaji Grusah, who is the owner and bankroller of the team has assured the team of the chance to compete in the CAF Confederations Cup next season should they manage to win the FA Cup title.

“Our bankroller, Alhaji Grusah has assured us of African competition should we win the FA Cup title. So, we are praying to win the trophy and take it from there,” he said.

Despite impressing in the FA Cup, they are currently in the relegation drop in the Ghana Premier League.

They are 17^th on the league table with 36 points after 30 matches into the domestic top-flight campaign and must play above themselves to escape the drop.

King Faisal will face FC Samartex 1996 in the matchday 31 games at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex this weekend.

The Insha Allah lads secured a 3-2 win over Nsoatreman FC in the semifinal game played at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday.

The Nsoatre-based club shot into the lead through Samuel Ofori, who scored from the spot in the 9th minute but Baba Yahaya restored parity by scoring for Faisal in the 35th minute.

Frimpong Boateng found the back of the net to extend King Faisal’s in the 44th minute.

After recess, Kwame Nana Junior levelled for Nsoatreman on 55 minutes but Samuel Adom Antwi restored Faisal’s lead in the 64th minute which was enough to earn them a spot in the final.

“I’m very very happy because when we went to the press conference I told them something and they have made me proud. They’ve made it for me,” Ablordey told StarTimes after the game.

“I told them, when I was playing for Hearts of Oak, I played as a player and won the FA Cup. I came to Kotoko as a player and technical man, I won and am here. I’m in the finals with King Faisal.

“So it is my prayer we win the final game and lift the trophy,” he added.

King Faisal will face Dreams FC who defeated lower-tier side, Skyy FC in the final of the competition scheduled to be played on June 17, 2023.

The Insha Allah lads locked horns with their fellow Premier League side in the semifinal of the FA Cup on Sunday at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese.

The two Ghana Premier League clubs have had a very good campaign in the domestic cup competition and fought for a place in the final.

Samuel Ofori scored the opening goal of the game from the penalty spot for Nsoatreman in the ninth minute.

Yahaya Baba equalized for King Faisal in the 36th minute before Boateng Frimpong scored in the 45th minute to put King Faisal in the lead before the half-time break.

Nsoatreman started the second half strongly and got the equalizer through Kwame Nana in the 55th minute.

Samuel Antwi scored the winning goal for King Faisal in the 64th minute to help them seal qualification to the FA Cup finals.

King Faisal will face Dreams FC who defeated Division One League side Skyy FC 2-1 in the final of the MTN FA Cup.

The winner of the competition will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

The Dawu-based club will await the winner of the match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi King Faisal in the final which will be played on Sunday with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT at the same venue.

The quarterfinal games were played over the weekend at the venues with four teams confirming their place in the last four of the competition.

Dreams FC edged Legon Cities by a lone goal at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu. Nsoatreman FC travelled to the Northern region to stun Real Tamale United by a lone goal.

King Faisal defeated all odds to beat in-form Aduana Stars 3-1 on penalty shootouts after 120 minutes of action.

At the St. Martin’s Park in Daboase, Skyy FC defeated fellow Division One League, Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs to confirm their place in the last four.

The last four teams that have confirmed their place in the semifinals are Dreams FC, Nsoatreman FC, Skyy FC and King Faisal.

Meanwhile, Dreams FC will take on Skyy FC while King Faisal will tackle fellow Premier League side, Nsoatreman FC.

The 2022/23 MTN FA Cup semifinals are scheduled for May 13 and 14, 2023 at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

King Faisal on Sunday booked a place in the semifinals of the MTN FA Cup following a hard-fought win against Aduana Stars in a quarterfinal game at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

The game ended 2-2 after 120 minutes of action. However, the home side secured a 3-1 win on penalty shootout to crash the Ghana Premier League leaders out of the competition.

Having booked a place in the final four, Ablordey said the main focus of the club is not the cup competition.

“I’m not thinking about the FA Cup. I’m thinking about the league because we have to stay in the league. FA Cup, when you are out, you can still play, so we are just concentrating on the league to make sure we stay in the league,” he told StarTimes after the game.

“So, this is our focus now. FA Cup, we are going to the semi-finals, but it’s secondary. We are thinking of the league now,” he added.

King Faisal find themselves 11th on the league table with 32 points, just four points above the relegation zone after 25 games played and will host Dreams FC in the matchday 26 games this weekend.

The Ogya lads were hosted by King Faisal at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in a quarterfinal game on Sunday.

Aduana broke the deadlock through Stephen Anokye Badu before the end of the first half. In the 47th minute, Abdul Latif successfully converted the penalty to make it 1-1.

Frank Owusu made it 2-1 for The Fire Boys in the 75th minute, but King Faisal succeeded in getting the equalizer through the in-form striker Benjamin Bature in the 78th minute.

With the score locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes, the match was pushed into extra time. However, King Faisal progressed to the next round with a 3-1 win on penalty shootouts.

Following the defeat, Fabin blames poor officiating for their exit from the competition as they were denied clear penalties in regulation time.

“I don’t talk about referees. It was very bad but we’ll leave it like that. Before we ended the first half we had a clear penalty,” he told StarTimes after the game.

“In the second half, we had two here. All were ignored. But look at the one that was given to King Faisal here. I mean it’s just comedy. I’m telling you,” he added.

Aduana Stars will host Great Olympics in the matchday 26 games of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

The ‘Insha’ Allah lads hosted the ‘Ogya’ lads who are the leaders of the Ghana Premier League at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinal clash.

However, Ignatius Osei-Fosu’s side after a 2-2 draw in regulation time shocked Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side 3-1 on penalty shootouts.

Stephen Adu Anokye broke the deadlock for Aduana Stars in the 42nd minute to end the first half 1-0 for the away side.

After recess, Abdul Latif converted a spot kick in the 47th minute to make it 1-1.

In the 75th minute, Frank Owusu scored to put Aduana ahead but three minutes later, Benjamin Bature equalized for the home side in the 78th minute.

After 90 minutes of action, the game ended 2-2 but King Faisal have made their way through to the semifinals following a 3-1 penalty shootout after extra time.

At the St. Martin’s Park in Daboase, Skyy FC defeated fellow Division One side, Ebusua Dwarfs in the final quarterfinal game.

However, Eric Antwi Konadu’s 4th-minute goal was enough for the home side to book their place in the semifinal spot.

The final four teams who have booked their spot in the semifinals are Dreams FC, Nsoatreman FC, King Faisal and Skyy FC.

On Friday, Dreams defeated Legon Cities at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu by a lone goal.

Emmanuel Adade scored the only goal of the game in extra time as the home side progressed to the next round of the competition.

On Saturday, Real Tamale United hosted Nsoatreman FC at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

Philip Ofori scored the only goal as Nsoatreman shocked the home side to book a place in the semifinals of the competition for the first time in their history.

Dreams FC will host Nsoatreman FC in the semifinal clash.

Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton watched both games on Friday and Saturday.

On Sunday, Skyy FC will host Ebusua Dwarfs at the St. Martin’s Park in Daboase with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT.

The quarterfinal clash will be wrapped up with a game between King Faisal at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT.

The winner of the quarterfinal game on Sunday will meet the winner of the quarterfinal game on Monday in the semifinal.

The games will kick off today, Friday, April 7 to Monday, April 10.

Four teams will hope to make it to the semifinals of this year’s MTN FA Cup.

At the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu today, Dreams FC will host fellow Premier League side, Legon Cities with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT.

At the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Saturday, Real Tamale United [RTU] will tackle Ghana Premier League debutantes, Nsoatreman FC with kick-off at 18:45GMT.

On Sunday, it is all Division One affairs. Skyy FC will welcome Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs at the St. Martin’s Park at Daboase with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT.

In Kumasi at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, King Faisal will tackle Ghana Premier League leaders, Aduana Stars with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered a 1-0 defeat against the ‘Ogya’ lads in the Round of 16 games at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park at Dormaa.

Sam Adams converted a penalty in the 57th minute to give Aduana the win and seal progression to the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

Speaking after the game, the Burkinabe coach was far from impressed with referee Amadu’s performance in the game.

“Yes we were defeated but it is the referee’s effort that won the match for Aduana. I am not somebody who talks too much about referees but the way they threatened the referee at halftime, that’s why the referee changed his mind,” he said.

Asante Kotoko returns to Ghana Premier League action on Wednesday when they host Bechem United in the matchday 19 games at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The league leaders went into the game with a strong home record having gone halfway through the season without a home defeat.

After a thrilling first half, both sides failed to score despite creating some decent chances in the opening half of the game as the first half ended goalless.

After recess, Aduana FC were awarded a penalty in the 57th minute after Mohammed Alhassan brought down his marker in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Sam Adams stepped up to score the opener for the home side.

The League leaders held on to the solitary goal to win 1-0 – to advance to the quarter-final stage.

At the El-Wak stadium, Legon Cities survived a late scare but hanged on to win 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time. While Heart of Lions gave away a first-half lead to lose 2-1 to Skyy FC at the Kpando Park.

The game will see two of the best teams in the League face each other as tickets to the quarter-final stage beckon.

In other pairings, Real Tamale United will play FC Samartex in Tamale. King Faisal host Division One side Steadfast FC while Nsoatreman FC welcome Debibi United to the Nana Konamansah Park.

In the Southern Zone – Liberty Professionals will travel to Dawu as guests of Dreams FC. Legon Cities slug things out with Division One League side Volta Rangers. The Porcupine Warriors have booked a place in the Round of 16 after defeating lower side Benab FC 2-1 in the Round of 32 games on Saturday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Maxwell Agyemang scored what turned out to be the winner after Kotoko got on the score sheet via an own goal.

Speaking in the post-game interview, the former King Faisal FC attacking midfielder described the game as a very difficult matchup before talking up his team’s chances of winning it all in the competition.

“It was a difficult game, very very difficult…if you see the quality that Kotoko have, there is no doubt that we can win (the Cup),” Morrison, who was named the Man of The Match said.

Morrison moved from city rival King Faisal prior to the start of the 2022-2023 season.

Asante Kotoko will focus on the matchday 14 games of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League when they host Kotoku Royals at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Still Believe lads at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in the Round of 32 fixture.

The home side was awarded a penalty but Samuel Inkoom missed the retake penalty attempt after the initial attempt that was saved got called back for an infringement.

Following the defeat, the Serbian trainer admitted they lost the game due to hard luck after failing to convert their chances.

“We created a lot of chances, a lot of free kicks, a lot of crosses and we deserved this penalty but it was hard luck we didn’t score and we lost the game today.

“We deserved this chance…but in the end, we didn’t score. Hard luck we continue,” he added.

Matic also cited his first-choice penalty taker Salifu Ibrahim wasn’t available because he had to be substituted earlier in the game.

Hearts of Oak will hope to return to winning ways when their travel to Akoon Park on Saturday to play Medeama SC in the matchday 14 game of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians suffered a 1-0 defeat against Dreams FC in the Round of 32 games.

Agyenim Boateng scored the only goal of the game for the Still Believe lads.

Slavko Matic’s men were handed a golden opportunity in the 97th minute of the game after being awarded a penalty.

However, Samuel Inkoom failed to convert despite two attempts from the penalty box.

Elsewhere, Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium survived a late scare from Division One side Benab FC to record a 2-1 victory.

The Porcupine Warriors went ahead through an own goal from Benab, who played as the home team on the day.

However, the lower tier side were levelled after the break and looked certain to cause an upset but Maxwell Agyemang turned up big late in the game to restore Kotoko’s lead.

The win sees Kotoko advance to the next round of the MTN FA Cup.

Clubs were drawn against teams in their zones, resulting in a number of local rivals being paired with each other.

Steadfast FC will take on Tamale Soccer Angels while Future Stars face Asekem FC.

Last season’s quarter-finalists, Skyy FC were also drawn against Betenase Utd.

The Premier League clubs, including holders, Accra Hearts of Oak, will join the competition in the next round.

The matches will be played from November 1 to November 10.

Clubs from the Division One and Division Two leagues will know who their opponents will be in the first round of the competition after the draw.

Winners of this round of competition will join Premier League clubs in the Round of 64 draw.

Hearts of Oak are the defending champions, having won it for the second time in a row after defeating Bechem United in the final last season.

However, tough competition is expected, particularly from Asante Kotoko, who last won it in 2017.

During the game which took place at the Baba Yara Stadium, the former Kotoko forward headbutted the assistant referee when a decision didn’t go his way.

His actions saw him being sent off in the 68th minute while the Hunters trailed with a 2-1 scoreline following goals from Emmanuel Avornyo (Bechem) and Caleb Amankwah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh (Hearts).

Bechem went on to lose the final to the Phobians and Okrah, who netted four times en route to his side making the final of the competition, issued an apology for his behaviour through social media.

“I am extremely sorry and remorseful for the harm I caused including hurting sentiments. I am ashamed of myself for having behaved in such a manner,” part of his statement read.

The Phobians beat the Hunters 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, marking a title defence under Boadu.

Caleb Amankwah had canceled out Emmanuel Avornyo’s opener for Bechem United and team talisman Afriyie Barnieh scored the winner in the second half.

“I say a big thanks to the Hearts of Oak family, board, and everyone. It wasn’t an easy task,” the former Medeama SC gaffer said after the game.

“Being in the top wasn’t it, the most important was to win the trophy and go to Africa but some didn’t understand. There were criticisms but that kept us going.

“Bechem have a strong team, very young side, they are compact in midfield and on the flanks so we had to deploy a strategy to contain them. We decided to bring Obeng in the second half to hold them.”

Hearts of Oak finished the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season at the 6th position with 48 points.

Boadu also highlighted a bit of the plans for next season.

“No one is leaving as at now but definitely we will make some inclusions before the start of the season.

“We have qualified for Africa again and is the second consecutive season we are doing that so we’ve had a successful season.”

Samuel Boadu is the first coach to retain the title since the late Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefi did so in 1999 and 2000.

The MTN FA Cup is his fifth trophy since joining the Phobians.

Boadu defeated Bechem United 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday to defend his MTN FA Cup title.

Caleb Amankwah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored the goals for his side to lift the trophy after a diffcult campaign in the Ghana Premier League.

Speaking in his post-match interview , he said,  “Togbe is guaranteed trophies ones I am in charge as the head coach of the club. He should not worry. I thank him for his support.

Despite the success of the MTN FA Cup triumph, Coach Samuel Boadu says he considers the team’s inability to make the top four of the Ghana Premier League as a failure.

“Hearts of Oak is a big club and we can’t end the season without a trophy, but as a coach not being in the top four I feel I have failed.

“People should know this as well, with Coach Boadu there’s always a trophy to win,” Coach Samuel Boadu added.

Boadu signed a three year deal after joining the club from Medema SC last season. 

The Phobians recorded a 2-1 win over the Haunters.

Emmanuel Avornyo scored the opener but goals from Caleb Amankwah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh turned the tie for the Phobians to defend their title successfully.

Hearts of Oak were put under pressure and were forced to play at the half in the early stages of the first half.

The first goal of the game went to Bechem United in the 45th minute. A brilliant long ball from Latif Anabila found Augustine Okrah who forced a save from Ayi but Avornyo was there to knock the ball in off a rebound.

Three minutes later, Hearts of Oak got their answer through a set-piece. A pinpoint cross found Caleb Amankwah who tried the spectacular which easily beat the opposition goalkeeper to level matters just before the halftime whistle.

In the second half, Hearts of Oak showed more drive and were rewarded with their first lead of the game in the 61st minute.

Gladson Awako’s cross-found birthday boy Daniel Afriyie Barnieh dinked it into the net.

The night got worse for Bechem United as star man Augustine Okrah was sent off in the 67th minute.

Hearts were able to hold on from there to clinch the title. It is Samuel Boadu’s second FA Cup trophy in succession after leading the side to the crown in 2021.

The victory means that the Phobians will now compete in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.

They will now renew the rivalry in the Super Cup when they play against Asante Kotoko.

The Rainbow club, which won three domestic trophies last season, finished the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season at the 6^th position with 46 points.

On the other side, Bechem United finished the season at the 3^rd position with 54 points.

Ahead of the game on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Opare Addo, speaking in an interview, admitted that Bechem United are in good form and will be touted by many to win the trophy.

According to him, his side will be underdogs ahead of the game but he is convinced his outfit will prove their critics wrong.

“It is obvious that Bechem United are in a good form and they finished in a better position compared to ours,” he said on Asempa FM on the Ultimate Sports Show.

“They had a good campaign and without a doubt, they have quality players. In the Premier League, they held us to a goalless game at the Accra Sports Stadium, and at Bechem, we played a 1-1 draw.

“But this is the FA and many have touted Bechem United to win the trophy because they are in good form. We are underdogs and we are fine with that but I believe the players will prove their critics wrong on Sunday.

“I am confident we will defend our trophy on Sunday despite the underdog tag,” he added.

The much-anticipated game has been scheduled to kick off at 15:00GMT.

The Phobians were abysmal in the just-ended 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

Samuel Boadu and his charges finished the campaign at the 6^th position with 46 points.

Hearts of Oak suffered four consecutive defeats in their last four games before the end of the campaign.

The Rainbow club were pipped by a lone goal at the Baba Yara Stadium against King Faisal. At the CAM Park in Ayinase, Hearts of Oak were beaten.

In the Mantse Derby against Great Olympics, the woes of the club were deepened with a 3-0 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In their final game of the season, Hearts of Oak suffered a 4-1 defeat against RTU at their home grounds.

However, ahead of the MTN FA Cup, Kwame Opare Addo is convinced his side will not suffer a fifth defeat.

According to him, they are determined to defend their trophy despite their poor season in the Ghana Premier League.

“I must admit that our last four games we played before the end of the season did not go as we expected but that is football,” Opare Addo, who is the Communications Director of the club said on the Ultimate Sports Show on Asempa FM.

“We were hoping to finish the season in a respectable position but we dropped out of the top four which is not good for us but we are playing against Bechem United in the finals of the MTN FA Cup and I must say that we will not suffer a fifth defeat.

“Bechem United are on a good form but we will not be defeated on Sunday. The players are eager to win the trophy on Sunday.

“The club wants to win a trophy and that is the FA Cup. A fifth consecutive defeat will not happen on Sunday,” he added.

Kick-off of the game is at 15:00GMT.
