In a recent interview, DopeNation alleged that Mr Drew failed to credit them for contributing to the writing of a song that later became a major hit.

But the comment didn’t sit well with Mr Drew, who has responded sharply, describing the remarks as “unnecessary and disrespectful.”

“They could’ve done their interview without dragging my name into it,” he said, accusing the duo of being petty and likening their behavior to “lame guys throwing tantrums.”

The singer warned that he will not tolerate any attempts to discredit or undermine his brand.

DopeNation has yet to respond, but with tensions flaring, this may not be the end of the exchange.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, Mr. Drew revealed that being involved in various activities at the label helped him navigate difficulties when he eventually left the company. He explained that, at times, he even had to pay for certain projects out of his own pocket.

“I did fund some of the stuff while I was on the label,” he admitted. When asked if that was part of his initial agreement with the label, he said, “No.”

Despite not initially agreeing to cover the costs, Mr. Drew explained that he was not bothered by using his own money, as he had a clear vision for his future. “I felt I needed to make things work for myself,” he said, acknowledging that even though he was signed to a record label, he knew that taking charge of his career was essential.

Reflecting on his seven years in the industry, Mr. Drew shared that there were aspects of the business side of music he wished he had understood earlier. “I think the business side of it… you actually need to learn a lot,” he confessed. “The paperwork side of it, how your money trickles in from different places, how to manage your earnings after working with someone—there’s a lot to learn.”

He explained that when he first signed with Highly Spiritual, he didn’t think it was necessary to understand the business side of music, since his contract was meant to be a 360 deal. However, after becoming an independent artiste, he has gained a new understanding. “Once you get off the label, you learn a lot,” he said.

Known for hit songs such as ‘Dwe’, ‘Mood’, ‘This Year’, ‘Case’, and ‘Sneaky’, Mr. Drew is currently promoting his new EP titled The Loverboy.

In a recent interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Mr. Drew revealed that having a bald head comes with its own set of challenges.

He explained that he has to be particularly cautious of the sun, saying, “We can’t really walk in the sun because ego really blaze the brain, yeah man,” in Pidgin English.

Because of this, Mr. Drew avoids video shoots during the day. “I don’t like shoots during the day, I remember like if we get shoots during the day, ano like am. Chale, edey make my head dey ache. Coz the sun shines direct, edey cool your brain. Chale, ano fit.”

On a lighter note, he shared the benefits of having a bald head. “Bald cut – easy going. Barbers no dey chop my money coz me naa Adey shave my head. If you go chop my money, ebe sake of my beard,” he quipped.

When asked about the inspiration behind his look, Mr. Drew explained that he “wanted something that would stand out” in the music industry. His bold decision to sport a bald head is a conscious effort to carve out a unique identity as a young musician in an industry often dominated by dreadlocks and other hairstyles.

Interestingly, Mr. Drew’s bald look isn’t due to hair loss, but rather a personal choice. He regularly shaves his head and can grow his hair back whenever he chooses.

Expressing his feelings on the matter, Lord Paper revealed that he was deeply hurt by the betrayal, especially since he had envisioned a future with his girlfriend, whom he referred to as Jane.

He revealed he loved her immensely and was planning on tying the knot with her.

Ultimately, Lord Paper said he confronted Mr Drew, who came clean but offered the explanation that he did not know they were an item.

In response to the situation, Lord Paper decided to end his relationship with Jane, acknowledging that he could not overlook her betrayal.

While he has forgiven both Jane and Mr Drew, Lord Paper affirmed that he has no intention of rekindling his relationship with Jane.

The What Do Girls Really Want composer shared that the incident has served as motivation for him to work harder and focus on his career.

JamRok in its suit claimed that the singer failed to perform at their event dubbed ‘Easter Dance Party with Mr Drew’ without any warning or excuse despite getting paid 50% of the performance fee.

However, explaining its side of the story in a press release, the artist’s team said the organisers of the event failed to meet certain agreed terms and also unduly delayed the event.

The team stated that Mr Drew was contacted in March for the event, scheduled for April, with an agreement that he would receive 50% of the performance fee in advance and the remainder on the day of the event before his appearance on stage.

“It was stated that the event would commence at 8 pm and Mr. Drew the headline act would perform at 11:30 pm to close the show. On the day of the event, Mr. Drew and his team hired a private vehicle to take them to Akosombo.”

“The team arrived at 2:40 pm and were lodged at Atta Korea Guest House by the organisers. Contrary to the agreement the event did not commence at 8 pm and had not begun as of midnight on 2nd April. Mr Drew and his team waited at the guesthouse to be called to perform by the organisers,” the team said.

The team claimed that individuals from JamRok arrived at the hotel at 12:26 am, requesting Mr Drew and his team to join a convoy through the town to attract patrons to the event.

They noted that Mr Drew indicated his willingness to join the convoy despite the risks involved.

However, his team requested he be paid the outstanding 50% as agreed.

“The event organisers refused to make payment and rather demanded that Mr. Drew move to the event first citing the low turnout as the reason for their refusal to make payment.”

However, the team said after making such comprises the event as of 1 am on 2nd April had yet to start with the supporting acts yet to perform. 

Mr Drew, they indicated waited for a further 50 minutes adding “With no communication on when he would receive his payment, Mr Drew and his team left Akosombo at 1:50 am.”

They slammed JamRok for making unsubstantiated claims against Mr Drew and for issuing threats at the singer and his team on social media and through private messages.

This comes after JamRok Bar and Event Centre accused Mr Drew of reneging on their contract.

“On the day of the event, Mr. Drew arrived and checked into his hotel around 3 pm, in the company of 3 other team members, and he was to relax and get ready for the event in the evening. All the other artistes on the bill had also arrived and were in their hotels,” JamRok bar noted.

“At around 12:30 am, organizers say they tried calling the artiste to come and perform but there was no response from his team, hence the organizers drove to the hotel and found they were fast asleep. After some time, Mr. Drew and his team finally came out of the hotel sat in their car and drove off.”

The company said they followed up but later got to know that Mr Drew drove past the event grounds and was headed back to Accra, abandoning the event for which he had been paid.

However, Mr Drew’s team said that JamRok’s claims were defamatory and demanded an apology from the event company.

“Mr Drew’s lawyer wrote to organisers demanding a retraction of the defamatory statements and lies. The organisers refused and issued further threats and insults to Mr Drew’s DJ; DJ Filter,” the team noted.

“Mr Drew’s legal team is prepared to take further action if organisers do not retract the lies and defamatory remarks they made,” they added.

Meanwhile, in a writ of summons issued by the District Magistrate Court – Senchi on April 15, 2024, JamRock Bar and Event Centre are demanding the recovery of GH¢15,000, being money the plaintiff paid to Mr Drew to perform at the event but failed to do so and the refund of the money annulled since February 12, 2024.

It also seeks an order for the recovery of Special damages amounting to GH¢36,511 being direct costs incurred by the plaintiff In connection with the event; and general damages of GH¢200,000 against the defendants, for the severe damage caused to the plaintiff’s brand as a result of the cancellation of the event.

Mr. Drew, the scheduled performer for the Easter Monday celebration, withdrew from the event without providing any explanation or justification.

The organisers had to cancel the show due to the unexpected decision by Mr. Drew disappointing fans who had bought tickets for the show.

According to reports, preparations for the event were well underway, with excitement building among eager attendees looking forward to the festivities.

However, Mr. Drew’s failure to honour his commitment to perform prompted organizers to seek clarification from the artiste and his team.

Despite receiving 50% of his performance fee in advance and confirming his participation in the event, Mr. Drew and his entourage were reportedly found asleep at their hotel when attempts were made to contact them for their scheduled performance.

Subsequently, they left the location without fulfilling their contractual obligations, leaving organizers and attendees in dismay.

In response to the breach of contract, the management of Jamrok Bar and Event Center has announced plans to pursue legal action against Mr. Drew and his team to recover the expenses incurred in organizing the event.

Lawyers representing Jamrok are currently studying the case and preparing to file a lawsuit against the artist for damages and compensation.

In appreciating this huge milestone, the Afrobeats artiste shared a poster of his charts adding that he would release an EP next year to ‘spoil’ his fans.

Kuami Eugene in a response to why he involved a lawyer just to get his percentage of the song he wrote for Mr Drew said, he had tried other means to get it but to no avail.

“Mr Drew might be older than me but I came into the industry before him so I can bully him. I had to involve a lawyer because the normal mutual friendship thing did not work, I tried to message him but he blueticked me so a lawyer would trigger him.” he said.

This did not go down well with Mr Drew and he took to X (Twitter) to call Kuami Eugene a liar.

The ‘Rockstar’ had revealed that, he wrote about eighty percent of Mr. Drew’s song, ‘Case’ but the latter failed to acknowledge his input.

However, in a interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Eugene said Mr Drew has gotten in touch with him and given him his due. 

“He didn’t know that if you put music out there without the consent of the one that wrote it, it’s illegal so I won’t blame him. He is a brother and I am glad he learned and he hit me up right after everything. He has given me my percentage,” he noted. 

Kuami Eugene said he writes songs for other artistes because he cannot sing all the songs he produces, especially when he notices a particular song fits the style of another artiste.

“It’s just a blessing that you write songs for people to sing even though I get paid for it” he stated.

Some artistes Kuami Eugene has written songs for are: Kuame Yogot, Keche, MzVee, and Joyce Blessing.

Earlier, the Lynx signee disclosed that, he wrote 90 percent of Mr Drew’s hit song, ‘Case’.

Opening up on how that collaboration came about, Kuami Eugene said “it was a conversation between our management, and we decided to do it, that is how everything came about,”

However, Mr Drew released the song without Kuami Eugene’s knowledge and he [Eugene] has vowed not to let it slide.

According to Kuami Eugene, he deserves 50 percent of the song’s royalties hence Mr Drew must do the needful by splitting the revenue.

“The software saved all the details of the song and it was 2020. I did it Highlife and Afrobeat but now he has added touches of Amapiano. I won’t blame him in any way, but my only problem was you cannot ship something to Ghana with someone and say we are selling on Sunday, only for you to sell on Saturday without communicating,” he told host Jerry Justice.

“His management has also denied knowing about it. If I had not expressed myself, he wouldn’t have said a word. Technically I own 50 per cent of that song and he ignored me. He is older than me but I am not little” he fumed.

Kuami Eugene said he has forgiven some industry players in the past, but with Mr Drew, he has to set an example out of him to prevent potential cases in the future.

“Some people have done the same thing to me and I left it to God. Those people they are seniors in the game and I couldn’t argue with them. I am still young and can’t fight about anything [but] I think I need to set an example with Drew,” he said.

Kuami Eugene is currently promoting his new 13-track album dubbed ‘Love and Chaos”.

The news comes as a surprise to many fans who have been jamming to the catchy tune, but according to Kuami Eugene, he has not received due credit and payment for his contributions.

In an interview with Naana Donkor Arthur, Kuami Eugene disclosed that he penned the song’s infectious hook and a substantial part of the second verse.

Additionally, he claimed to have written approximately 80 per cent of the song, even stating that the song was almost completed before Mr Drew’s involvement.

“Mr Drew’s song, ‘Case,’ I wrote the hook and some part of the second verse. I wrote like 80 per cent of that song. In fact, before he came to record the song, that hook and everything was already done; he heard it and sang it back. So, I do writing for other artists as well,” Kuami Eugene stated.

However, what seemed like a revelation soon took a sour turn as Kuami Eugene expressed his disappointment in not receiving the acknowledgment he believes he deserves.

According to him, he felt compelled to address the issue publicly due to the success of the song.

“It’s quite unfortunate that this is the platform I have to send a message to Mr Drew to prompt him to do what he needs to do because the song is doing good. That hook is great. If I had sung it by myself, it would have still been a hit song because I wrote that song thinking about ‘Wish Me Well,'” he lamented.

Kuami Eugene also emphasized the importance of recognizing talent in the entertainment industry, asserting that proper credit is essential for the growth and respect of artists.

“He’s a brother. I wish we could appropriate where credit is due in the industry and give respect so we can move on as individuals,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the news of Kuami Eugene working together with Mr Drew in a studio has surprised many because the duo were not seeing eye-to-eye in the past.

They took to social media to jab each other after Mr Drew accused Kuami Eugene of stealing one of his songs.

The artiste, known beyond music circles as Andrew Nii Commey Otoo, has been in a dispute with the producer Kaywa since leaving his record label.

Kaywa, who also serves as the founder of Highly Spiritual, has accused the musician of ingratitude in the way he departed from the label.

The musician has strongly objected to this characterization and has refuted it on numerous platforms.

He even mentioned that he could have secured a better deal if he had legal representation at the time.

However, the situation took a different turn during Mr. Drew’s interview on Showbiz 260, a program on Accra-based TV3.

During the interview, the 27-year-old artiste expressed his gratitude to the label head for the guidance provided throughout his career.

While communicating his willingness to let bygones be bygones, Mr Drew revealed his decision to relinquish his royalties to his former label boss.

“I want to use this platform to thank highly spiritual music, Papa Kaywa for working with me for the five years. It’s never been easier and I want to say thank you to him.”

It is at this point that he revealed that as a show of appreciation “I am even leaving my royalties [to him].”

The ‘This Year’ hitmaker further insisted that he feels “like that should be part of me being grateful and saying oh, thank you to Highly Spiritual Music.

“So I leave everything I leave my share of royalties to the label.”

The highly anticipated event is set to take place on Saturday, July 15 at Trent Park in London, UK.

Both artistes expressed their regret and disappointment in not being able to attend the event, citing circumstances beyond their control as the reason for their absence.

While the specific reasons were not disclosed, fingers are being pointed at Kawya, their former label boss who initially secured them the deal for the event in previous years.

The withdrawal of Mr Drew and Lasmid from Ghana Party in the Park is a disappointment for their fans and the organisers of the event.

Ghana Party in the Park is an event that celebrates Ghanaian culture, music, and entertainment, and it will undoubtedly continue to showcase a lineup of talented artistes and provide an enjoyable experience for attendees.

As fans eagerly anticipate the event, they will have the opportunity to enjoy performances from other artistes who are scheduled to perform at Ghana Party in the Park.

Among them are R2Bees, VIP, Samini, Medikal, Cina Soul, OV, Kofi Mole, Quamina MP, Article Wan, Larruso and Gyakie.

He revealed that he decided not to renew his contract to seek new opportunities.

The ‘Dw3’ hitmaker indicated that he has the blessings of his former boss.

“I’ve not left Highly Spiritual, my contract with Highly Spiritual has ended. Renewing is optional, it’s not an obligatory thing to renew.

“It’s more of moving ahead as a being or artiste, it doesn’t have anything to do with they not doing enough for me,” he noted.

 “I speak to him all the time. I was at his mother’s funeral,” he said on Accra-based TV3.

The ‘Let Me Know’ crooner said he is an independent artiste now.

Mr Drew’s career officially started when he joined and became the first runner-up at the MTN Hitmaker in 2017.

After he was signed onto Highly Spiritual Music founded by music producer and engineer Kaywa.

Under the record label, he released hits like ‘S3k3’, ‘This Year’ among others, and has an album ‘Alpha’.

I believe in all of them and Mr Drew proved himself. There was a time that we were hard on cash and Mr Drew has a small car and he was ready to sell the car so we put in the work. Not for himself but the Highly Spiritual project. He had lots of passion with the job… he was like me, he said.

Hammer, speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z show over the weekend, said until “each one for himself” attitude is changed, new crop of artistes such as Kuami Eugene, Mr Drew, and Worlasi among others can’t reach the peak of their careers.

We didn’t have to make Lumba a local champion. We could have made him sell auditoriums and stadiums around the world.

But our attitude as each one for himself has taken us there. These young boys will be victims of our interior selfishness… We need to be selfish as a country very important that we don’t let people in else we cannot win, he said.

In an interview with Delay, the Later hitmaker said he is much aware of rumours circulating in the public domain that he acts “like a woman”.

Talking further, he said, the claims are true, adding that: “Oh I know I am… Sometimes I act like that just to be jovial but I can be very feminine just for fun.”

Speaking on Adom TV’s Ahosepe Xtra show, the artiste whose real name is Andrews Commey Otoo said he’s been engaged in the business of dancing for the past 20 years.

He began as a five-year-old boy who donned just boxer shorts to perform his craft at roadshows, before advancing to major stages.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Kobby Rana, EL, and Guru, whose ‘Samba’ track ushered him into the limelight, are just a few of the artists whose works he has featured in.

The Ghanaian Chris Brown, as some call him, said he received inspiration from the Hollywood musician who is well known for impressing his fans with not just quality music but relatable dance skills.

It is for this same reason Mr Drew started a social media dance challenge for his songs, especially on TikTok.

The above is a simple and common question that celebrities face in their daily lives but it’s the kind of question that gets on the nerves of dancer and artiste, Mr Drew.

The artiste disclosed his hatred for the question in an interview on Adom TV’s Ahosepe Xtra.

Mr Drew who was in the studio for a celebrity interview segment bared it all out when host Sister Sandy asked him some pressing personal questions.

Questions ranging from his craft, relationship to personal hygiene, were thee kinds Mr Drew had to answer in one minute.

Below is the conversation Mr Drew had with Sister Sandy:

Sister Sandy: At what age did you start dancing?
Mr Drew: Five years old.

Sister Sandy: What is your blood type; is it A, B, AB or O?
Mr Drew: I think it’s a combination of all four.

Sister Sandy: Question you hate to be asked.
Mr Drew: Are you dating? Do you have a girlfriend? Things in that line.

Sister Sandy: What cheers you up?
Mr Drew: Performing for my fans who are cheering me up. Their facial expressions make me wanna do more.

Sister Sandy: Who is your ideal musician for a collaboration?
Mr Drew: Chris Brown.

Sister Sandy: Body part you would rather do away with?
Mr Drew: One of my ears, because I would still be able to sing

Sister Sandy: What is the longest days you haven’t taken a bath?
Mr Drew: Two days.

Sister Sandy: What is a funny myth you believed?
Mr Drew: It’s from my manager, he made me believe his car’s small screen was a touch sensor and I believed him. It was until he pulled a brake which caused his phone to fall down that I realized I had been played.

Sister Sandy: Have you ever cheated on your partner?
Mr Drew: Never!

Sister Sandy: What is the last thing you searched on google?
Mr Drew: Checked the ratings of Mood (his latest single)

The photo captured the days of the ‘Dw3’ hitmaker’s childhood with his usual bald head which has got people talking.

The photo he posted on his Instagram page saw him wearing a white T-shirt as he gives off a stunning look.

Forecasting the mixed reactions the photo will generate, he captioned “Going offline.”

However, his caption did not prevent netizens from commenting that came with compliments from others.

The duo, who could pass for twins, were dancing to one of his hit songs, ‘Let me know’, as part of a social media challenge.

The dance moves, their attitude, smile and facial expressions depicted unity and fans could only watch in admiration.

But for their hairstyles; Mr Drew, who has a bald look and the other with dreadlocks, the pair would have been unidentifyable.

Just like Mr Drew, his brother is also a choreographer and social media sensation.

Talented dancer and singer, Mr Drew has stated he will save his girlfriend over his manager any day should the two be caught up in any life-threatening situation.

He made this declaration when he was featured on the Celebrity Truth or Dare segment on ShowBiz Now.

Mr Drew who has been recently accused of song theft was responding to a question on who he is likely to save if his girlfriend and manager were caught up in a fire outbreak.

He answered without mincing words that he will go for the girlfriend.

Asked about his reason, the singer said he will save the girlfriend because he believes she will take care of him.

He went on to give shout outs to his manager who was in the studio at the time of the show and apologized for selling him out.

He went on to say he won’t save the manager because what’s between them is strictly business but if his girlfriend leaves him, he will surely link up with his manager for another business.

Mr Drew is currently promoting his new song titled ‘Later’ after the ‘Eat’ song which happens to be a cover of Rotimi was taken down by Rotimi’s management over copyright infringements.

His comment comes after the video for ‘Eat’ was taken off all streaming platforms for copyright issues.

One Ghanaian had reported to Rotimi that his song ‘Love Riddim’ had been stolen and remastered to produce ‘Eat’.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Stonebwoy said Mr Drew had requested to be featured on the song because it was good.

Stonebwoy said he later found out, through his brother, that ‘Eat’ sounded exactly like Rotimi’s song, ‘Love Riddim’

“I reached out to him on Instagram and he said it was a cover. Then, I said ‘if it is cover just do what you have to do because people do covers’,” he told Andy Dosty, host of the show.

He stated that he asked Mr Drew to go through the needed procedures before releasing the song.

The Dancehall artiste said that when he was informed that the song was taken down, after the release, he questioned whether the original owners felt ‘Eat’ was bigger than theirs.

Stonebwoy said that he never assumed that the issues with copyright had not been solved.

The ‘Nominate’ hitmaker said that he is disturbed that people are calling him out after the scandal.

He explained that his verse on the song was completely original and was expecting Mr Drew and his team to leave him out of the copyright issues.

“If trouble had come I think the beast thing for them to do is reiterate the love that I have shown them…it is not my business to come and clear your song and make sure things are done right,” the ‘Run GO’ hitmaker added.

Stonebwoy said that he only worked on the song because of the love he has for young artistes, the need to see them do better and Mr Drew’s record label boss Kaywa.

Mr Drew on the show apologised to Stonebwoy.

In his interview on Hitz FM‘s Daybreak Hitz, monitored by Adomonline.com, he made it clear that he tagged and sent many messages to the original owner, Empire’s Rotimi, but he wasn’t given the green light to go ahead.

I didn’t steal the song, I fell like it was a mistake from my side; from the publisher and for me putting the music and having Stonebwoy on the record.

And not waiting for the right response from Rotimi’s team, and I wanna apologise and I know and accept that it is my fault, he told presenter Andy Dosty.

Mr Drew’s latest hit song ‘Eat’, which features Stonebwoy, was reportedly blocked after an anonymous person reported the duplication to the true owner.

The song is a ‘cover’ of Empire’s Rotimi dubbed Love Riddim. Upon receiving the report, Rotimi pulled down the song from its site.

“This video contains content from Empire, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds,” was displayed on the video.

‘Eat’, which was released some weeks ago, successfully garnered over 150,000 views on YouTube before being pulled down.

Chief Executive Officer of the Record Label, David Kojo Kyei, known in showbiz as Kaywa, said the outfit understands Copyright Infringement Laws and as such will not intentionally flout any.

Explaining the whole saga, he said the song, which is a cover of American/Nigerian artiste Rotimi’s ‘Love Riddim’ gave due credit to the originator.

Kaywa, in a press release, said there was a miscommunication between their digital publisher and Rotimi’s, leading to their video being pulled down on YouTube after it was reported.

Irrespective of the turnout of event, the release hinted there was no bad blood between the two artistes, adding that Mr Drew and Rotimi have a friendly relationship.
