Truck crashes woman to death; others in critical condition [Photos]

A woman, believed to be in her 50’s, has been reported dead with others in critical condition in after an accident at Datoyili in Tamale.

The accident occurred when a long truck from Burkina Faso with registration number 11JH 8077 crashed with a motor king tricycle.

Information gathered suggested that the long truck driver veered off its lane and hit the tricycle which was carrying the woman and about four other occupants.

The woman fell from the tricycle and got run over by the truck killing her instantly and leaving the others in critical condition.

The family of the deceased has since buried the body per Islamic customs while the injured persons are receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

KMA gets tough with tricycle riders

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, has warned of the arrest and prosecution of tricycle riders caught dumping waste at unauthorized places.
Some of the riders, who had been using their tricycles for waste collection, often ended up emptying the garbage in open places instead of sending it to the landfill site.
That, he indicated, would not be allowed to continue and that offenders would be punished.
Mr. Assibey-Antwi, who was speaking at meeting held with the riders at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, vowed strict enforcement of the assembly’s sanitation bye-laws.
They were determined to go to every length to make sure that there was compliance, he added.
The MCE has made environmental sanitation on of his top priorities as he seeks to restore the city to its former status as the “Garden City of West Africa”.
He roundly condemned the unhealthy practice of using the very same tricycles for waste collection to carry foodstuff.
He announced measures taken by the assembly to deal with that and restore sanity – protect the health and safety of the people in the metropolis.
As part of this, the tricycles were going to be registered by the KMA and the ones used to cart waste clearly marked.
Mr. Assibey-Antwi said that would make it easier to identify and arrest offending riders.
He rallied everybody to find space to contribute to the effort at keeping the city clean.

Tema Police impounds 175 vehicles, motor bikes

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested and impounded a total of 175 unregistered motorbikes and vehicles in the Tema Metropolis and Ashaiman Municipality.
The number is made up of 85 unregistered and foreign registered vehicles, and 90 unregistered motorbikes.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the Command impounded the bikes and vehicles in an exercise on July 19, this year.
ASP Darkwah said the exercise which was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) George Tuffour, Tema Regional Police Commander, took place between 20:00 hours and 02:00 hours.
He added that it was targeted at unregistered vehicles and motorbikes which were predominantly used by criminals for robberies and other criminal offences.
The Command embarked on the swoop as part of the Police Administration’s nationwide operation to clamp down on criminals and their activities.
ASP Darkwah indicated that the 175 impounded vehicles and motorbikes would go through screening after which, owners found to be culpable would be prosecuted.
He announced that the exercise would be replicated in the Ada, Prampram and Dodowa Police districts, to fully rid Tema and its environs of unregistered cars and motorbikes used for criminal activities.

Star actress Nana Ama McBrown on Tuesday masterfully rode a motor cycle, popularly known as Okada, on the streets of Accra.

Nana Ama, 43, who has been described as a woman of many talents, had fellow actress, Emelia Brobbey as her passenger.

Describing herself as “Okada Woman”, Nana Ama said they were heading to some media houses in Accra to promote their latest movie, Adanfo Bone.

The movie will be premiering in Accra this weekend and two actresses sought to create maximum awareness for it.

Nana Ama displayed considerable skill as she revived the motor cycle into life and sped away, with Emelia clinging tightly to her.

The video of the two riding the motorcycle quickly garnered thousands of likes after Emelia shared it on Instagram.

It drew instant applause from several social media users. “Eiii Nana so you know how to do everything hmm you are awesome but I wish I can do everything like you I love you guys so much,” one Instagram user wrote.
