The event, held yesterday, targeted senior citizens aged 65 and above, providing them with essential food items and household supplies at no cost.

Speaking at the event, Mr Okyere Baafi described the initiative as a way of restoring dignity and spreading festive joy among the elderly during the Christmas season.

“This initiative is about ensuring that our senior citizens feel valued, cared for, and supported, especially at a time when many face economic challenges,” he said, noting that the programme brought relief and happiness to many homes across the constituency.

Beyond the distribution of essential items, beneficiaries also received free health screenings and cosmetology services, including hairdressing, manicures, and pedicures.

According to the MP, the additional services were intended to make the event a wholesome experience focused on both physical wellbeing and personal dignity.

“We wanted this to be more than shopping; we wanted it to be a full day of care and celebration,” he added.

Mr Okyere Baafi reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership, stressing that vulnerable groups would always remain a priority under his tenure.

“As MP for New Juaben South, I remain committed to ensuring that no one is left behind, particularly during the festive season,” he stated, pledging to continue supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of the elderly.

He expressed gratitude to the organising team, volunteers, sponsors, and partners whose collective efforts ensured the success of the event.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this day memorable,” he said, while extending Christmas wishes to residents: “May the joy of Christmas fill every home and every heart.”

Any attempt to cancel 1D1F will weaken investor confidence – Okyere Baafi https://www.adomonline.com/any-attempt-to-cancel-1d1f-will-weaken-investor-confidence-okyere-baafi/ Sat, 25 Oct 2025 19:49:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592346 Ranking member of Trade and Industry Committee and Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency Michael Okyere Baafi has cautioned the Mahama-led government against the cancellation of the One District One Faactory(1D1F) policy.

The former Deputy Trade Minister has warned that any attempt to cancel the policy will come with huge financial implications against the State and will also erode investor confidence in the Ghanaian economy.

He said the Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga’s campaign for an independent audit into the 1D1F across the country is a part of the scheme to paint the policy black, give it a name, and hang it.

Mr. Ayariga’s call for an independent audit stems from his belief that the tax exemptions given to these factories were not used for their intended purpose, while some of these factories are not even in existence.

He challenged the erstwhile NPP government to show Ghanaians the whereabouts of the 1D1F.

Responding to these claims at a press briefing, Mr. Baafi has indicated that, as of the time the NPP exited, 196 1D1F factories were operational, creating about 700,000 direct and indirect jobs. He said an additional 70 factories under the policy were at an advanced stage of completion.

Okyere Baafi said the Enable Youth Initiative alone empowered several young people in Agri-business and Agro processing in selected District, Municipal and Metropolis with funding support from the International Fund for Agriculture Development and the African Development Bank.

‘The evidence abounds. Go to Akontombra, Sagnarigu, Assin Dompim and other parts of the country. The Common User Facility that established rice mills for rice farmers and other processing plants has created thousands of jobs in the value chain’ Okyere Baafi talk about evidence

He indicated that, the 1D1F policy was never meant to establish 100% government owned businesses. He said the initiative was meant to create an enabling environment for business and provide funding support for the same with the vision of creating jobs.

Adding that, under the policy both Green and Brown businesses were accessed based on their proposals and viability.

He mentioned that, the companies were connected to some Participating Financial Institutions that reviewed their proposals and granted loans to those that passed the viability test.

“The government guaranteed loans for the selected companies and paid 50% of the interest on their loans in its effort to release financial stress from the companies and empower them to create more employment.

“These companies are still paying the rest of the loan and interest. If you cancel the policy, the government will bear the responsibility of repaying the loans.” Okyere Baafi warned

He said any attempt to cancel the 1D1F under the guise of an independent audit will also erode investor confidence since foreign and local investors wouldn’t find their feet anytime there is a change in government.

‘I’m saying to you that the NDCs’ 24-hour economy is dead at birth. So they just want to discredit the 1D1F that has created sustainable jobs’ Baafi added

Reintroduction of anti-LGBTQ+ Bill won’t succeed – Michael Okyere Baafi https://www.adomonline.com/reintroduction-of-anti-lgbtq-bill-wont-succeed-michael-okyere-baafi/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 18:53:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591435 Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has downplayed the impact of the reintroduction of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

According to him, the process “will not amount to anything.”

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the MP suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was using the issue for political showmanship rather than genuine commitment.

“The NDC is doing all of us ‘kro kro de john.’ We were expecting the President and his team to show the same force they had in opposition and pass the bill immediately after coming to power. This new introduction is nothing; it won’t be a smooth process,” he said.

Earlier, MP for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, revealed on Joy News’ AM Show that the reintroduced bill is expected to be laid before Parliament for its first reading between today and tomorrow, emphasizing its urgency and public interest.

The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, which seeks to criminalise certain LGBTQ+ activities and promote what sponsors describe as “Ghanaian family values,” has been one of the country’s most divisive legislative proposals.

An earlier version passed in 2024 was stalled following legal challenges and a court injunction preventing Parliament from sending it to the President for assent.

The reintroduction marks a renewed push by its proponents to see it passed in the 2025 legislative session.

Akufo-Addo gave me the chance to choose where I wanted to serve – Okyere Baafi https://www.adomonline.com/akufo-addo-gave-me-the-chance-to-choose-where-i-wanted-to-serve-okyere-baafi/ Wed, 15 Oct 2025 12:54:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588743 The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South in the Eastern Region, Michael Okyere Baafi, has revealed that former President Nana Akufo-Addo gave him the chance to choose where he wanted to serve shortly after the 2016 electoral victory.

“He gave me a blank check; this is the first time I am saying this. He gave me a blank check that I should look for where I want, and I mentioned it, and he gave it to me,” he said in an interview on JoyPrime on Wednesday.

The former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry also disclosed that he was the first CEO Akufo-Addo appointed upon winning power.

“I think I was the first CEO appointed in Nana Akufo-Addo’s government. I was given my appointment letter on 25 January; other ministers were not given their appointment letters,” he added.

He explained that the former President granted him such an opportunity because of the close working relationship they had built over the years.

“I have worked for him like everybody working for him, so we believe in him; he has been our father for a very long time, myself and Honourable Annoh Dompreh,” he recalled.

Mr Okyere Baafi expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence the former President reposed in him, describing it as a rare gesture that reflected Akufo-Addo’s appreciation for loyalty and dedication.

Akufo-Addo appointed Mr Michael Okyere Baafi as Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Authority in 2017 and, in 2021, appointed him as Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

We won’t accept Okyere Baafi’s apology; he must resign – NDC’s Tanko-Computer https://www.adomonline.com/we-wont-accept-okyere-baafis-apology-he-must-resign-ndcs-tanko-computer/ Wed, 03 Sep 2025 07:42:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2574289 Deputy National Elections Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has rejected the apology issued by New Juaben South MP, Michael Okyere Baafi, following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the Akwatia by-election.

According to him, the lawmaker must either honour his pledge to resign or face public accountability in Parliament.

“We are going to Michael Okyere Baafi’s constituency. He has apologised, but we are not accepting his apology. He must resign. If he doesn’t resign, Ghanaians will not take politicians seriously.

We must be serious. They must hold us to our words. Whatever comes out of my mouth, they must take it seriously. I can’t just stand here and make allegations, say certain things, and then within 24 hours apologise,” Tanko-Computer said.

Recalling Baafi’s confidence before the results were declared, he noted:

“Do you know that he came in when we were about to start the collation, beaming with smiles, telling me that ‘we are winning,’ until I showed him the results on my phone that ‘my friend, you have lost the election, and I’m coming to your constituency for the by-election,’ and then he started perspiring. That’s when he realised things had changed.”

The NDC official stressed that Baafi must be held accountable for his own words.

“The gentleman made a categorical statement: ‘I will resign.’ Let us go and test their strength in that constituency and see whether that is truly an NPP stronghold. That’s why he felt confident to say he would resign. He was here with us, and we are going to hold him to it,” he added.

Mr. Tanko-Computer further warned that the NDC would escalate the matter if Baafi failed to act.

“If he doesn’t, I will write to the Speaker of Parliament, and he must apologise on the floor of Parliament so that the whole public will see who he is. People like him must allow decency in our politics so that Ghanaians will respect us,” he declared.

Akwatia by-election: Okyere Baafi apologises over resignation comment after NPP’s loss https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-by-election-okyere-baafi-apologises-over-resignation-comment-after-npps-loss/ Wed, 03 Sep 2025 07:29:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2574283 New Juaben South MP, Michael Okyere Baafi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has apologised for his controversial statement that he would resign if his party failed to win the Akwatia by-election.

During the one-week observance of the late Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi, Mr. Okyere Baafi sharply criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to deliver on its 2024 campaign promises and boldly declared, “If the NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP. Mark my words!”

However, speaking in an interview on Accra-based AsaasePa FM, the former Deputy Trade Minister admitted that the comment was made in the heat of the campaign to energise his supporters, but conceded it was “a step too far.”

“I want to apologise to Ghanaians. I only said it to ginger my people, but on reflection, it wasn’t the best. With the kind of work we put in, I didn’t think we could lose,” he explained.

Mr. Baafi attributed the NPP’s defeat to what he described as widespread vote buying, alleging that the NDC distributed cash and items such as hair dryers and spraying machines to sway voters. He claimed amounts ranging from GH₵500 to GH₵1,000 were handed out on polling day.

He further cautioned that the growing monetisation of Ghana’s elections poses a serious threat to democracy.

“If this is the path our politics will continue to take, then I won’t put myself forward as MP again,” he warned.

The Akwatia seat became vacant following the death of Ernest Kumi on July 7, 2025, after a short illness.

Certified results from the Electoral Commission (EC) showed that Bernard Bediako Baidoo of the NDC secured 18,199 votes to defeat the NPP’s Kwame Asumadu, who polled 15,235. Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) finished a distant third with 82 votes.

In all, 34,122 ballots were cast, of which 33,819 were declared valid and 303 rejected. Voting was conducted across 119 polling stations, closing at 5 p.m. before sorting and counting in the presence of party agents, security personnel, and independent observers.

During the one-week observance of the late Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi, Mr. Okyere Baafi criticized the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to fulfill its 2024 campaign promises and confidently stated: “If the NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP. Mark my words!”

Speaking to the media, Baba Jamal stressed that the NDC would ensure the NPP lawmaker is held accountable if his party is defeated.

“Otherwise, we’ll give him the necessary disdain and disrespect as MP. We’ll show him serious disrespect because we won’t trust him again. He has made a public promise. As I’m speaking now, have I put my integrity on the line? I’m saying I’ll be extremely surprised if we win; politics is full of surprises. But if he said he’ll resign, we are going to hold him to that,” he asserted.

Speaking to GHOne TV, Mr. Baafi criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of abandoning their 2024 campaign promises.

Expressing confidence in his party’s prospects, he declared: “If the NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP. Mark my words!”

The by-election follows the sudden death of Ernest Kumi, the constituency’s former representative. The contest is expected to be fiercely competitive, with the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu facing off against the NDC’s Bernard Bediako.

Michael Okyere Baafi debunks NDC claims on cement price reduction https://www.adomonline.com/michael-okyere-baafi-debunks-ndc-claims-on-cement-price-reduction/ Wed, 21 May 2025 09:36:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2536793 Former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi, has refuted claims by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) that cement prices have dropped to GHS 82.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Mr. Baafi insisted that cement prices remain unchanged, stating categorically that the government has not held any discussions with manufacturers to influence pricing.

“Ghana operates a free market economy where prices are determined by market forces, not political gimmicks,” he said.

He explained that while the recent appreciation of the cedi provides an opportunity for price reductions, the NDC has instead resorted to spreading misinformation.

Mr. Baafi urged producers to take advantage of the strengthened cedi to benefit consumers and called for leadership that promotes transparency and accountability.

“Ghana deserves truth, stability, and affordable prices,” he emphasized, adding that the focus should be on real solutions rather than propaganda.

Minority raises concern over U.S. tariff on Ghanaian products, calls for policy action https://www.adomonline.com/minority-raises-concern-over-u-s-tariff-on-ghanaian-products-calls-for-policy-action/ Thu, 03 Apr 2025 17:11:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2521548 The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed concern over the United States’ recent imposition of a 10% tariff on Ghanaian products, warning that the move could negatively impact the country’s economy and exporters.

Addressing the issue in a press statement, the Ranking Member of the Committee on Trade, Industry, and Tourism,  Michael Okyere Baafi, stated that Ghana finds itself among other African countries affected by the tariff escalation, which was announced by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Mr. Baafi, the U.S. cited unfair trade practices as justification for the tariff, pointing to Ghana’s 17% average tariff on U.S. imports.

He, however, noted that it remains unclear whether this policy affects Ghana’s participation in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

Ghana is currently one of 35 Sub-Saharan African countries benefiting from AGOA, which grants duty-free access for about 6,700 products to the U.S. market.

Some of the key products covered under AGOA include textiles and clothing, motor vehicle parts, agricultural products such as nuts and yams, leather goods, and machinery.

Mr. Baafi emphasized that the newly imposed 10% tariff could significantly reduce the price competitiveness of Ghanaian exports, particularly in industries such as apparel, cocoa processing, and yam exports.

The apparel sector, which employs over 5,000 young Ghanaians, is expected to be among the hardest hit.

The Minority further criticized the government’s approach to trade and export policies, arguing that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has failed to prioritize export growth.

The statement noted that under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative helped Ghana expand its exports, including iron rods, ceramic tiles, and plastics to the ECOWAS region.

“The current government has no response to the tariff slap. It has no specialized programme or policy to support exporters, expand production, or diversify markets,” the statement read.

The Minority Caucus proposed several measures to address the situation, including:

  • Diversifying export markets by prioritizing AfCFTA and expanding manufactured exports to African countries.

  • Providing government support for exporters, including financial assistance and market intelligence to mitigate the impact of the tariffs.

  • Encouraging product diversification and value addition to reduce reliance on raw material exports.

  • Engaging in diplomatic negotiations with the U.S. government to clarify the policy’s impact on AGOA and explore possible exemptions.

  • Enhancing Ghana’s trade competitiveness by improving infrastructure and reducing production costs.

  • Ensuring policy clarity on export strategies and committing to the full implementation of the National AfCFTA Policy Framework.

The Minority Caucus urged the government to take swift action to prevent further economic losses and protect the livelihoods of exporters affected by the tariffs.

New Juaben South MP accounts to market women in Koforidua https://www.adomonline.com/new-juaben-south-mp-accounts-to-market-women-in-koforidua/ Thu, 19 Sep 2024 12:44:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2451012 The Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South constituency, Michael Okyere Baafi, has stated that the New Patriotic Party has brought more development to the people of Koforidua and its environs than any other government under the 4th Republic.

According to him, Koforidua has seen much improvement in roads, health and sports infrastructure, trade support systems, education, security, and all sectors of the economy under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration than the previous NDC administration put together.

Addressing market women at the Agartha Market near the Railway Police Station in Koforidua, Mr. Okyere Baafi announced plans to solve the perennial mud witnessed at the market during the rainy season.

He assured traders that the problem would be solved by the end of September.

“If there is any MP who prioritizes the development of Koforidua, then I’m the one. I’m a Koforidua boy, Koforidua is my Hometown. So I will go all out to make Koforidua better than I met it,” he said.

He exhibited some projects undertaken under his leadership in less than four years including the retooling of the Eastern Regional Hospital, the Koforidua Technical University Hospital, the construction of a New Hospital at NyameKrom, and several clinics within the New Juaben South Municipal.

On education, he touched on the construction of a New school block for the Anglican school at Betom among others. He said several citizens of Koforidua have been given scholarships to study abroad while others have been granted scholarships to study in Ghana.

The MP believes education holds the key to development.

He told the market women to assess his performance and decide in favor of him and the NPP flag bearer Dr. Mahamadu Bawumiah in the December 7th election.

I have served the people of New Juaben South well – Baafi https://www.adomonline.com/i-have-served-the-people-of-new-juaben-south-well-baafi/ Wed, 31 Jan 2024 03:53:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2349608 The Member of Parliament of New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, says he has served the constituency well and, therefore, deserves another term to continue the good works.

Mr Baafi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, was speaking at a ceremony where the Electoral Commission endorsed him as the unopposed parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Following the disqualification of Madam Grace Safori from the contest, he became unopposed in the second bid to enter Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Touting his first-term achievements as MP, he mentioned the construction of one of the biggest constituency offices to end the years of using rented facilities.

He said Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, had seen remarkable structural development from the asphalting of roads to health and educational infrastructure.

Mr Baafi mentioned that hundreds of young people had been supported through scholarships to build the human resource capacity base of the constituency.

“There are many other developmental projects in the pipeline, and we cannot afford to change our voting pattern come December 2024, to ensure continuity and perfect execution of my agenda,” he said.

Mr Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, told the teeming party supporters and delegates that the “breaking of the eight” was a collective agenda that called for all hands-on deck.

“The NPP remains the best political party in terms of good governance and development in Ghana, so let’s all come together and trumpet the NPP achievements to break the eight come December”.

The New Juaben South MP is one of four other regional incumbents who went to the just-ended primary unopposed.

According to him, the absence of the raw materials has delayed the operationalization of the factory which has been abandoned for years.

Residents of Komenda in the Komenda/Edina Eguafo/Ebirem in the Central Region in an interview with Adom News expressed worry over the development, especially as they were optimistic about gaining employment with the factory.

Throwing more light on the availability of raw materials, Mr Okyere Baafi revealed that managers of the factory will use molasses or unrefined sugar for the first year and later revert to the use of raw sugarcane.

The Komenda Sugar factory was inaugurated in 2016 but shut down a month into production due to what officials explained at the time to be due to the unavailability of raw materials.

Seven years after closure, the President during a visit to the area in September said the factory will be open by the close of the year.

If there’s a jail sentence, you’ll suffer alone; be smart – Assin North MP told [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/if-theres-a-jail-sentence-youll-suffer-alone-be-smart-assin-north-mp-told-audio/ Tue, 12 Apr 2022 14:35:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2103706

New Juaben South Member of Parliament (MP), Michael Okyere Baafi, has urged his Assin North colleague, James Gyakye Quayson, to tread cautiously in the case challenging his eligibility.

Mr Okyere Baafi says he expects his embattled colleague to be smart and act according to the law, especially when he has been ordered not to hold himself as MP.

To the former, Mr Quayson may at the moment have the support of his party [National Democratic Congress ], but at a point, he will be lonely as the party can no longer go further with him on whatever the consequences may be.

“Sometimes you have to be very smart. Your people can urge you on but at a time you will be lonely. That is what has happened.

“Whether he likes it or not he will only get the support of the party from outside. They cannot come in to help him. So if it is a jail sentence, you will suffer that alone,” he said in an interview with Accra-based TV3.

Stressing how severe events may unfold, he recounted the case of a former Bawku Central MP, Adamu Dramani Sakande on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party who faced the same situation in 2012.

“You did not conduct yourself well, you failed to meet the criteria to become MP and somebody has challenged you. We have had this situation before where an MP was imprisoned and the chances are that this guy will also follow suit.

“You saw this coming but they were cheering you up and you thought the cheering up will save you but we are talking about the law. When you are faced with the reality so will you face the law and consequences alone,” he cautioned.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has set April 13, 2022, to deliver its ruling on whether Mr Quayson should be stopped from performing Parliamentary duties or not.

This comes after a Cape Coast High Court in July 2021 nullified his election after it was found he owed allegiance to Canada at the time of filing his nomination forms to contest the polls.

Michael Ankomah Nimfah, a resident of the constituency, who filed this election petition, in January 2022 initiated another action at the Supreme Court.

Govt to make Ghana a vehicle manufacturing hub – Trade Ministry https://www.adomonline.com/govt-to-make-ghana-a-vehicle-manufacturing-hub-trade-ministry/ Tue, 15 Mar 2022 08:52:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2091082 Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi, has clarified that government’s decision to marginally increase the import duty on vehicle is part of strategy to build local capacity for manufacturing of vehicles in Ghana.

Speaking to the media, the MP for New Juaben South Constituency revealed that the government was poised to develop an Iron and Steel industry to supply materials to help facilitate vehicle manufacturing in the country.

According to him, the initiative was due to lack of manufacturing companies as the one located in the country was rather an Automobile company for assembling vehicles also known as Semi Knocks.

Mr. Baafi admonished spare parts dealers who import materials from other countries to encourage manufacturing companies to set up in Ghana as the government was urged to promote an inclusive economic development.

He claimed the Ministry was also engaging with the Cement Manufacturers and other stakeholders to come up with a law to regulate the Cement industry.

Per his reports, there are no rules governing the industry, hence new entries mostly are faced with unfriendly circumstances which doesn’t promote the industry.

Touching on the development of New Juaben South Constituency, Mr. Baafi noted the increase of employment created in the constituency and disclosed that the community roads will resume to increase easy access.

Accept E-levy or IMF will ask us to cancel Free SHS – MP https://www.adomonline.com/accept-e-levy-or-imf-will-ask-us-to-cancel-free-shs-mp/ Tue, 15 Feb 2022 21:03:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2080184 Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, says if Ghanaians don’t accept and pay the Electronic Transaction levy (E-Levy) then the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by the New Patriotic Party may be scrapped.

According to him, the inability of parliament to pass the E-levy bill will mandate the Akufo-Addo government to visit the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that will in turn set the conditions for the Free SHS policy to be aborted.

Mr Baafi, speaking to some members of his constituency during a town hall meeting, said:

If we don’t pay the E-levy and we go to the World Bank or the IMF for loans, they will ask Akufo-Addo to cancel the free SHS which will affect your children so you must all accept the E-levy and pay it so it helps all of us

Mr Michael Okyere Baafi

His comments, however, follows the Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta’s promise to pay road contractors their outstanding debts if the controversial E-levy is passed.

“You are going to benefit directly from its implementation. No serious government will joke with its contractors,” the Minister told the leadership of the Road Contractors Association in a meeting on Monday.

The Minister also said toll booths will be turned into places of convenience for motorists and passengers who ply the motorway.

“We even want to refurbish all those toll booth structures to provide proper and decent washrooms for use by motorists to avoid situations where motorists stop to ease themselves indiscriminately.”

The E-levy has been heavily challenged by the opposition NDC MPs and a section of Ghanaians.

Targeting 70,000, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliament candidate, Michael Okyere Baafi, said the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua will be a “no go area for the NDC”.

“Koforidua is a no go area for NDC. We will achieve this through hard work not foul means,” he stated in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme Thursday.

The Eastern Region has continued to be a difficult area for the NDC but it has made significant gains at New Juaben South.

The party, led by its presidential candidate, John Mahama, is hoping to snatch the seat from the NPP in the December elections.

But this target, Mr Baafi said will remain a dream due to the socio-economic development the NPP has brought to the people.

“In just four years, Koforidua has seen massive development under NPP and they will vote for Akufo-Addo to continue the good works,” he stated.

As a practical politician, he said they are campaigning in every nook and cranny to ensure they get majority of the votes in the polls.

Mr Baafi called on NPP members not to relent on their effort to deliver on their target though they believe they have won the elections.

New Juaben South NPP targets 120,000 registered votes https://www.adomonline.com/new-juaben-south-npp-targets-120000-registered-votes/ Mon, 20 Jul 2020 18:00:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1829449 The New Patriotic Party in the New Juaben South Constituency says its target of ensuring 120, 000 registered voters in the constituency is on course.

Even though the constituency recorded a little over 40,000 registered votes at the end of the second phase of the EC voter registration exercise, the party is confident that the last two phases will soar the figures up and help achieve their target.

Presenting about 30 megaphones, ten motor bikes, a vehicle and some cash to the constituency executives to facilitate the mobilization of constituents and their campaign, the NPP Parliamentary candidate for New Juaben South Constituency, Michael Okyere Baafi, said the resources provided to the constituency executives were aimed at facilitating the achievement of the set target.

He said it was his believe that the motorcycles, megaphones and vehicle would help reach out to majority of the constituents.

Mr Baafi said the last two phases of the registration is centered in the most populous polling stations in the constituency and it is expected that the numbers would increase tremendously by the end of the exercise.

He said places like Kantudu, Central Market, Srodae, Betom, Ogua among other polling stations would record higher numbers if the party leads the campaign and whip the constituents’ interest to go and register.

OTHER STORIES:

According to Mr Baafi, Covid-19 has affected the number of registrants that would have normally come out to participate in the exercise, but his team would work hard to ensure that people still come out in their numbers to register.

Speaking further, he intimated that he distributes close to 5,000 nose masks and 2,000 hand sanitizers every weekend to ensure that, people that come to register are protected from the novel virus.

Mr Baafi urged the constituents to religiously follow all the Covid-19 protocols during the registration period and beyond to stay safe.
