I am not concerned – Ibrahim Tanko on Medeama strikers not scoring https://www.adomonline.com/i-am-not-concerned-ibrahim-tanko-on-medeama-strikers-not-scoring/ Tue, 06 Jan 2026 11:21:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616420 Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has played down concerns over his side’s recent struggles in front of goal, insisting results matter more than who finds the net.

His comments followed Medeama’s gritty 1–0 victory over Hearts of Oak at the TNA Park on Sunday in the Matchday 18 fixture.

Speaking after the game, Tanko expressed satisfaction with the outcome and appeared unfazed when quizzed about the club’s strikers failing to score regularly in recent weeks.

“No. I think we are a team if the defenders score the goals for us to get what we want,” he said.

He added that Medeama’s style of play naturally creates opportunities for midfielders, who he believes will eventually contribute more goals.

“Our midfielders, with how we play, definitely we will have a chance, if they make use of it, definitely they will score more goals,” Tanko added.

The win moved Medeama to the top of the league table with 34 points. They will next face Young Apostles in their Matchday 19 encounter on Sunday, January 11.

The club has been given 14 days to settle the penalty.

The sanction comes amid a difficult period for the Porcupine Warriors, who were beaten 2-1 by Swedru All Blacks in Matchday 17.

We didn’t deserve to lose against Medeama – Didi Dramani https://www.adomonline.com/we-didnt-deserve-to-lose-against-medeama-didi-dramani/ Mon, 05 Jan 2026 08:54:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616065 Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has voiced his frustration following his side’s narrow defeat to Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians were beaten 1-0 at the TNA Park on Sunday in a Matchday 17 encounter that saw the hosts extend their grip at the top of the table.

After a tightly contested and goalless first half, Salim Adams struck in the 74th minute to settle the game in Medeama’s favour. The goal proved decisive as Hearts were left to rue missed opportunities.

Speaking after the match, Dramani insisted his team did enough to earn at least a point.

“I don’t think the better team won. We didn’t deserve to lose today against Medeama SC,” he said.

“We controlled the greater part of the game; they also had their moment, and I think they scored a very beautiful goal,” the former Black Stars assistant coach added.

The former Black Stars assistant coach, however, admitted that his side’s struggles in front of goal continue to undermine their performances.

“Absolutely, goalscoring is really a problem. You saw the chance we had in the first half and the one in the second half. These chances you don’t miss them, but we’re still in work in progress.”

The defeat leaves Hearts of Oak fifth on the league table with 28 points. They will look to bounce back when they face Hohoe United in the Matchday 18 fixtures.

The Yellow and Mauve were in action at the Kpando Sports Stadium in the Matchday 16 fixtures, where a solitary strike from Kingsley Braye in the 20th minute proved decisive.

The narrow victory lifted Ibrahim Tanko’s side to the top of the standings with 30 points, underlining their strong title credentials this season. For Heart of Lions, the defeat saw them drop to seventh place, remaining on 23 points.

Medeama will look to sustain their momentum when they travel to face defending champions Bibiani GoldStars in an outstanding fixture at DUNs Park on Wednesday, December 31, before returning home to host Hearts of Oak.

The Yellow and Mauve outfit hosted the Matchday 15 Ghana Premier League encounter at the TNA Park, with hopes of maintaining momentum at home.

However, they fell behind midway through the first half when Moses Author fired Holy Stars into the lead after 30 minutes.

Determined to respond after the break, Medeama increased the tempo and pushed relentlessly in search of an equaliser.

Their task was made harder in the 61st minute when Yussif Mubarik saw his penalty effort saved, leaving the visitors still in front.

Basake Holy Stars were later reduced to ten men after Koffie Hagan, who had already been booked in the first half, was shown a second yellow card in the 87th minute.

Medeama capitalised on the numerical advantage late on, as substitute Kingsley Braye struck in the 90th minute to rescue a point for the hosts.

The draw keeps Medeama second on the league table, trailing leaders Aduana FC, with a trip to Heart of Lions next on their schedule. Basake Holy Stars will turn their attention to their upcoming fixture against Hohoe United.

The Yellow and Mauve head into the Matchday 12 fixture on an eight-match unbeaten run, a streak Tanko says will be tested by a Kotoko side that remains dangerous, particularly at home.

“We are eight games unbeaten now, but I know against Kotoko, it is going to be a different game altogether. Definitely, we will get our chances, and I hope that the strikers will be more clinical this time and score the goals,” he said.

Tanko anticipates a high-quality encounter between two well-balanced teams, noting that the margins could be slim.

“I think it is going to be a very good game because both clubs have very good teams,” he added.

Only two points separate the sides on the league table, with Medeama sitting third on 22 points and Kotoko fourth with 20.

At the Aliu Mahama Stadium, Karela United survived a tense finish to overcome Basake Holy Stars in a five-goal thriller. Adom Philip set the tone with a 21st-minute opener, giving the hosts a narrow lead at the break.

Karela tightened their control after the restart. Danlad Nuhu made it 2–0 in the 62nd minute, and Eric Antwi Konadu stretched the advantage further 11 minutes later.

Basake, however, refused to fold. Prince Tweneboah struck almost immediately to reduce the deficit, and Richmond Somiah added another with nine minutes remaining. Despite the late scare, Karela stayed composed to secure a 3–2 win.

The result pushes Karela United into eighth place on 16 points, while Basake Holy Stars remain in the relegation zone, sitting 17th with six points.

At TNA Park, Medeama SC were left frustrated after being held to a goalless stalemate by a disciplined Bechem United side.

Though Medeama dropped points at home, they maintain their position at the summit with 22 points. The draw lifts Bechem United to 12th on 11 points.

Matchday 11 continues on Sunday as the remaining fixtures bring the weekend’s action to a close.

Medeama: Ibrahim Tanko praises players after comeback draw at Hohoe United https://www.adomonline.com/medeama-ibrahim-tanko-praises-players-after-comeback-draw-at-hohoe-united/ Mon, 03 Nov 2025 06:20:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2595338 Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has praised his players’ fighting spirit after they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Hohoe United in the Ghana Premier League.

The Tarkwa-based side displayed resilience to secure a point at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Saturday in their Matchday 8 encounter.

Francis Odoom gave the home side the lead before Abdul Salah equalised for the 2022/23 champions.

Reflecting on the performance, Tanko expressed satisfaction with his team’s attitude and felt they could have taken all three points.

“I think looking at the performance we put up, it’s a deserved result. Normally, we should have won because we created most of the chances. But one point away is good,” he said.

“Like I said, we had the chances — even our defender Kamaradini [Mamudu] missed two. But we were playing away, went 1-0 down, and had to push harder. I’m happy we came back. This kind of performance is good for us going forward,” he added.

The result keeps Medeama in second place with 18 points and sets up a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash at home against league leaders Aduana FC on Matchday 9.

After six matches, the Yellow and Mauve side sit atop the league table with 13 points, having secured four wins, one draw and a single defeat.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Tanko commended his players’ efforts but insisted it was too soon to discuss title ambitions.

“The league is still young, and we are taking it one match at a time. It’s too early to talk about the title, but our focus is on maintaining consistency and improving game after game,” he said.

The former Black Stars assistant coach also highlighted the growing competitiveness of the Ghana Premier League, noting that every team has become a formidable opponent this season.

“Generally, the Premier League is very tough, especially this season. All the teams have prepared very well, so it’s not always the case that you have to dominate to win matches,” he added.

Medeama will look to extend their strong run when they host Swedru All Blacks at the TNA Park on Sunday in the Matchday 7 games.

“But we have to concentrate throughout the 90 minutes. At some point, we dropped energy, and it’s not good.”

“We have to continue working hard because the season is still young,” he noted. “I said it at the beginning of the season: we are one of the teams that can win the league, but we have a lot of work to do.”

The Yellow and Mauve side struck early, with Kamaradini Mamudu opening the scoring in the 16th minute.

Medeama’s advantage was doubled before the break in fortuitous fashion, as Abdul Salam’s intended cross took a heavy deflection to deceive goalkeeper Aziz Kwame, sending Medeama into halftime with a 2-0 cushion.

Vision, still chasing their first win of the season, struggled throughout and offered little threat in attack, failing to register a single shot on target in the contest.

Medeama tightened their grip in the final stages. Emmanuel Owusu showed fine composure to add a third in the 80th minute, before substitute Nurudeen Abdulai broke the offside trap, rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted home just three minutes later to complete the rout.

With back-to-back victories, six goals scored, and two clean sheets, Ibrahim Tanko’s men remain top of the table after two matches.

Medeama will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Karela United, while Vision FC look to bounce back when they host league newcomers Hohoe United.

Medeama SC coach Ibrahim Tanko sets sights on Premier League title https://www.adomonline.com/medeama-sc-coach-ibrahim-tanko-sets-sights-on-premier-league-title/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 10:12:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2546865 Medeama SC head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, has set an ambitious target for the 2025/26 season — to win the Ghana Premier League title.

The former Ghana international took charge of the Yellow and Mauve midway through last season after leaving Accra Lions and led the team to an 8th-place finish with 50 points.

Despite a trophyless campaign, Tanko insists his focus has always been on long-term stability and success.

“When I came in, the goal was to bring stability and success,” said Tanko. “We missed out on the top four, and that’s disappointing. But we’re not coming back next season to chase the top four — we’re coming for the title.”

Tanko emphasized that while there won’t be a complete overhaul of the squad, key areas need reinforcement.

The 47-year-old revealed that bolstering the defense and attack will be top priorities in the transfer window.

“There won’t be massive changes, but we need to reassess. Players who are surplus to requirements will either be offloaded or sent out on loan, so we can make space for the right additions.

“We have a good group of players, but we need to add more quality. A centre-back and a striker are definitely priorities,” he stated. “The rest will come from the talented young players we already have at the club.”

With a full pre-season ahead and targeted signings in the pipeline, Tanko is confident Medeama will be ready to challenge the best teams in the country.

“I’m here to build something strong and lasting,” he declared. “Next season is not just about improvement — it’s about going for the ultimate prize.”

Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko vows squad overhaul and title push after disappointing season https://www.adomonline.com/medeama-coach-ibrahim-tanko-vows-squad-overhaul-and-title-push-after-disappointing-season/ Wed, 18 Jun 2025 09:53:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2545846 Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has set his sights on winning the Ghana Premier League next season after what he described as an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign.

The Tarkwa-based side finished eighth on the league table with 50 points, missing out on their top-four target.

Reflecting on the season, Tanko acknowledged the team fell short of expectations but revealed that preparations are already underway for a stronger title challenge in 2025/26.

“If we’d finished in the top four, I would have deserved it based on our home and away performance, but we fell short. So we are going to prepare for next season, not for the top four but for the league title itself,” he told the club’s website.

Tanko was particularly disappointed by Medeama’s only home defeat of the season, calling it a wake-up call that the squad needs adjustments.

“Massive changes? Not really, but we have to reassess the squad. Players who are surplus to requirements will be offloaded or put out on loan to create space for a few additional signings.”

The former Accra Lions boss stressed the importance of reinforcing key areas of the team, especially in defense and attack.

“We have good players, but adding more quality will make us a stronger team. So I will bring in a centre-back and a striker. The rest will come from the talented young players we already have in the squad.”

The new Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on September 26, 2025.

2023 AFCON: Medeama goalie says Ofori cost him Black Stars spot https://www.adomonline.com/2023-afcon-medeama-goalie-says-ofori-cost-him-black-stars-spot/ Wed, 11 Jun 2025 19:44:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2543855 Medeama SC goalkeeper Felix Kyei has shared the circumstances behind his exclusion from Ghana’s final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, despite his impressive form in the Ghana Premier League.

Kyei, widely regarded as one of the most promising young shot-stoppers on the local scene, was initially named on the Black Stars’ standby list for the tournament. However, he was eventually dropped from the final squad.

Speaking in an interview with Medeama FM, Kyei revealed that then-Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton personally informed him of the decision. Hughton cited a preference for experienced goalkeeper Richard Ofori over Kyei, due to Ofori’s leadership qualities and the potential for the tournament to revive his career.

“We were about to leave for Ivory Coast for AFCON, and at the same time, I had a match in Tamale with Medeama,” Kyei said. “One day, I received a call from Coach Chris Hughton. He praised my performances and encouraged me to keep working hard. He told me I was on the standby list and would be invited if there were any unfortunate incidents.”

According to Kyei, Hughton hinted that he would have preferred to drop Richard Ofori—who had limited game time at Orlando Pirates—but the technical team insisted on keeping him due to his leadership and experience.

“Hughton told me that if he had to drop any goalkeeper, it would have been Ofori. But because of Ofori’s leadership and other reasons, including helping him regain his confidence and use the tournament as a springboard to find a new club, he had to include him,” Kyei added.

Despite the disappointment, Kyei said he respected the coach’s decision and remained focused.

“It was Christmas, and Hughton wished me well. I told him I had no problem with his decision since he’s the head coach and knows what’s best for the team. It’s normal—anything can happen during a national team call-up.”

Ghana exited the tournament at the group stage, leading to Hughton’s dismissal. Since then, Richard Ofori has not received another call-up to the national team.

The celebration will follow a ceremonial fixture against Medeama SC.

Gold Stars secured their historic first-ever top-flight title in emphatic style last Sunday, thrashing already-relegated Accra Lions 4-0.

The dominant win sparked wild celebrations across Bibiani and etched the club’s name in Ghanaian football history.

Their triumph also extends the Western Region’s dominance in recent seasons—making it the third straight title for clubs from the area, following wins by Medeama SC in 2022/23 and FC Samartex 1996 in 2023/24.

Saturday’s clash with regional rivals Medeama SC is expected to be a fitting end to a landmark season.

Though the championship has already been secured, both sides will be eager to claim bragging rights in what promises to be a lively and festive encounter.

Kick-off is set for 3:00 PM local time (15:00 GMT). After the final whistle, officials from the Ghana Football Association will present Gold Stars with their medals and the coveted Premier League trophy.

The event is expected to draw dignitaries, fans, and key football stakeholders who will gather to witness the culmination of one of the most impressive campaigns in recent league history.

Led by head coach Frimpong Manso, Gold Stars’ remarkable rise to the top has been powered by resilience, tactical discipline, and team unity. Their consistency throughout the season has earned widespread praise.

The Yellow and Mauve side suffered the setback on Sunday in a Matchday 26 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Raphael Amponsah’s impressive long-range strike securing victory for Hearts of Oak.

“We conceded a goal that we normally don’t concede. After the goal, we came back very strongly, and we had all the chances.”

Tanko went on to add, “I think that was the only chance they had in the first half; it wasn’t even a real chance.”

“I think the boys did well; all the games we’ve played here, we score a lot of goals but, like I said the last time, we have to learn to kill the game even in the first half… we had the chances to score two or three goals in the first half then make it easier for us,” he said.

Medeama SC Head Coach, Ibrahim Tanko, voiced his frustration despite his team’s 2-1 comeback win against Basake Holy Stars in an outstanding Matchday 21 fixture.

With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Derrick Fordjour scored in the 89th minute to complete the turnaround for the home side.

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko insists his side fully deserved their hard-fought 3-1 victory over Bechem United in their return to league action.

In a Matchday 23 encounter at the TNA Park on Sunday, the Yellow and Mauve overcame an early setback after Bechem United took the lead, responding with a dominant comeback to seal the win.

This match marked Medeama’s return to action following a five-week break due to the tragic passing of Francis Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley.

Reflecting on the performance, Tanko commended his players’ resilience and teamwork.

“We had a very good game against a well-organized team, and I think in the first half, we should have scored two or three more goals. But in the end, it is a deserved win for us,” Tanko said after the match.

Tanko also emphasized the advantage of having a full squad available for the game.

“We have an almost full house; all the players are on board, and we had time to train together for a week. I think that contributed to our great performance today because everyone who played did very well.

“It’s good to have all the players available, and definitely, it’s going to be a good season for us,” he added.

The victory lifts Medeama SC to sixth place on the league table with 32 points, level with Nations FC after 20 games.

The Yellow and Mauve will host Bechem United at TNA Park on Sunday in a Matchday 23 fixture, with kickoff set for 15:00 GMT.

“It is very unfortunate [regarding] what happened,” Tanko told the club’s media.

“We are happy football is coming back that every week, we [will] play football in Ghana.

“When you look at this week, the way the boys trained and worked, definitely, I am hopeful that we will make them [fans] happy this weekend.

Opoku made his return to the Ghana Premier League during the first half of the 2024/25 season after stints in Algeria and Morocco.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opoku shared that Medeama’s president, Moses Armah, offered him a contract three times more lucrative than the one from Asante Kotoko.

However, Opoku chose to decline the offer from Medeama, citing his strong desire to rejoin Kotoko.

“Medeama SC president Moses Armah offered me a deal three times better than what Asante Kotoko offered me, but I declined and decided to join Kotoko,” Opoku said.

“Kotoko is the club I’ve always wanted to play for, so I decided to make my return,” he added.

The Porcupine Warriors visited TNA Park on Sunday for their Matchday 16 fixture, taking the lead just before halftime.

Returnee striker Kwame Opoku continued his fine form, scoring in the 44th minute to give Kotoko an edge. Opoku’s goal marked his second in as many games since rejoining the club.

Medeama, however, levelled the score in the second half through Kamaradini Mamudu, forcing the match to end in a stalemate.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Coach Ogum expressed his dissatisfaction with the result.

“The scoreline is not a true reflection of the game. We had several chances and should have won the game,” Narteh Ogum said.

The draw leaves Asante Kotoko in 6th place on the league table with 28 points, just one point ahead of Medeama, who sit 7th with 27 points.

Known for his extensive experience and success with the club, his appointment is expected to bring stability and a renewed push for the title.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Medeama confirmed that “both parties failed to reach an agreement on contract renewal,” citing the team’s inconsistent performances this season as a factor in the decision to part ways with Kapor.

Adotey’s first test will be a home fixture against Karela United at the TNA Park in the Matchday 14 games.

Hearts of Oak score two second-half goals to stun Medeama https://www.adomonline.com/hearts-of-oak-score-two-second-half-goals-to-stun-medeama/ Sat, 02 Nov 2024 10:55:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467462 Hearts of Oak delivered a spirited performance to defeat Medeama S.C. 2-0 in the Ghana Premier League at the newly inaugurated T & A Park.

Makeshift right-back Emmanuel Amankwaah and recent signing Mawuli Wayo scored the crucial goals for the Phobians on Friday night.

Hearts head coach Aboubakar Ouattara made two changes to the previous week’s lineup, replacing Ahmed Ramzy with Salim Adams in central midfield and moving Yaw Baafi out of his right-back position in favor of Emmanuel Amankwaah, while Ransford Mensah returned to the team.

On the other side, Medeama’s coach Nebojsa Kapoor kept the same starting lineup that drew 2-2 with Aduana Stars.

The first half saw limited chances, with the only close call coming when Theophilus Collinson’s header was tipped over the bar after 11 minutes. The initial 30 minutes were largely uneventful.

After the break, Medeama intensified their attack, especially down the left wing. However, Hearts’ defense remained solid, successfully containing Medeama’s threats, particularly from Abdul Fatawu Sulemana and Kofi Babil.

Ten minutes into the second half, Sulemana found a gap in the penalty area, but Collinson’s swift move closed down David Boison, preventing a major threat. Shortly after, Diawusie Taylor and Babil attempted a combination play, but Kelvin Osei-Asibey’s timely intervention thwarted their efforts.

Hearts also had opportunities, though Saani Mohammed and Hussein Mohammed couldn’t capitalize on their chances.

The deadlock was broken in the 65th minute when Hamza Issa slipped past Nurudeen Abdulai, setting up Kwabena Boateng, who nudged the ball past Appiah Kubi for the first goal, igniting celebrations from Hearts fans.

With the lead, Hearts shifted to a defensive strategy, denying Medeama any chances to equalize. Osei-Asibey anchored the defense, successfully fending off Medeama’s attempts.

Near the end, Mawuli Wayo sealed the win by breaking through the center-backs and heading home a long ball from Benjamin Asare. Wayo’s follow-up ensured the ball crossed the line, amplifying the cheers from the crowd.

Despite having eight minutes to respond, Medeama couldn’t find a way back. The victory moved Hearts of Oak to seventh in the league with 12 points from nine games, while Medeama stayed in third with 15 points ahead of the weekend fixtures.

His criticism followed his team’s narrow 1-0 victory over Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Matchday 2 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

Medeama secured the win thanks to a first-half goal from Mamudu Kamaradin.

After the match, the Bosnian coach expressed frustration with the quality of the pitches, calling on authorities to make improvements.

Kapor compared the Legon Cities stadium unfavourably to other facilities like Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, and those in Accra and Cape Coast.

“Like Baba Yara Stadium (Kumasi), Accra and Cape Coast stadia, the Legon Stadium is also bad. Pitches in Ghana should be better.

“The ground should be better. This is something where there is a very big room for Ghana to improve.

Medeama SC, currently leading the Premier League, will face Basake Holy Stars at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 27.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned Baba Yara Stadium due to its poor playing surface.

As a result, the Black Stars will now play their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan on neutral ground.

Medeama SC targets winning 2024/25 GHPL title https://www.adomonline.com/medeama-sc-targets-winning-2024-25-ghpl-title/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 12:06:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2449435 Medeama SC Board Chairman, Dr Tony Aubynn, has expressed the club’s ambition to challenge themselves and secure the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title.

The Yellow and Mauve made a strong start to the season, winning their first two matches.

They kicked off the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Accra Lions at the T&A Park and followed it up with another 1-0 win against Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, placing them at the top of the league table.

In an interview, Dr Aubynn outlined the club’s goals for the season, emphasizing their desire to reclaim the league title and return to the CAF Champions League.

“Having a standard stadium is good for our team. We are hoping to take every advantage to try and improve on our performance,” he said.

“We’ve challenged ourselves this time round again, that we should win the league and go to Africa (CAF Champions League) again.”

He also noted that with their own stadium in place, Medeama could have performed better in their previous CAF Champions League campaign.

“We are very sure that if we had our stadium during the previous encounter, we would have actually done much better (in the Champions League). What we need to do is to cross the first hurdle of winning the league,” he added.

Medeama SC’s next match is set for Friday, September 27, when they will face Basake Holy Stars at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium.

CAF CL prelims: FC Samartex coach reveals game plan ahead of Raja Club Athletic tie Morocco https://www.adomonline.com/caf-cl-prelims-fc-samartex-coach-reveals-game-plan-ahead-of-raja-club-athletic-tie-morocco/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 12:06:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2449456 FC Samartex coach, Nurudeen Amadu has vowed that his team will battle to win against Raja Club Athletic in the second leg of the CAF Champions League second-round preliminary stage.

The Ghana Premier League side settled for a 2-2 draw with the Moroccan team in the first leg on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Amadu shared his mixed feelings, praising his players for putting up a strong fight but expressing frustration over missed opportunities that could have secured a win.

“I’m not a happy person but I think we didn’t disgrace ourselves. It’s like the equalizer during the second half we just dished it out to them and we didn’t defend well in that situation. We were wasteful in front of the goal and that cost us,” Nurudeen Amadu said.

Looking ahead to the return leg, he added, “We are aware when you make minor mistakes, they punish you for it. Now we are going to fight because I have seen how they play and so I will also see how to strategize to go there.

“We will see how we will be resilient and so that we can go and fight them there,” Amadu added.

FC Samartex, in their debut appearance in the CAF Champions League, are determined to progress to the group stage.

Medeama SC out of CAF Champions League https://www.adomonline.com/medeama-sc-out-of-caf-champions-league/ Sun, 25 Feb 2024 13:00:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2361118 Medeama Soccer Club has been eliminated from the ongoing 2023/2024 CAF Champions League tournament.

The team from Tarkwa saw their hopes dashed after Tanzanian side, Young Africans, secured a decisive victory against Algeria’s CR Belouzidad with a commanding 4-0 scoreline in their Group D encounter.

Following their earlier defeat to Al Ahly in Kumasi, Medeama SC was banking on a potential draw between Young Africans and Belouzidad to keep their slim chances alive for advancing to the quarterfinals.

However, Young Africans’ triumph has now mathematically ruled out any possibility for the Yellow and Mauve team to secure one of the top two positions in Group D.

Evans Adotey’s squad is scheduled to face CR Belouzidad in Algeria on March 3, marking their final group-stage match in the competition.
