The project, aimed at addressing persistent water challenges in the community, was officially handed over at a ceremony attended by traditional leaders and residents.

Speaking to Adom News, Country Director of On Point Foundation, Anwar Abdul Wahab, said the initiative was inspired by Yahsimurat Kakayev, son of the late Gurbamyrat Kakayev, and undertaken in honour of his father.

He explained that the project reflects the Foundation’s commitment to improving lives through acts of service and humanity.

“This intervention goes beyond providing water. It is about restoring dignity, improving health, and enhancing the quality of life of the people of Kobre,” Mr Abdul Wahab said, adding that the Foundation will continue to support underserved communities.

The Benkuhene of Kojo Bofour, Nana Anane David, expressed gratitude to the Foundation, noting that previous attempts by the community to secure potable water had failed. He also assured that the community would adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure the facility is properly managed and sustained.

The mechanised borehole is expected to reduce waterborne diseases, ease the burden on women and children, and improve living conditions in the community.

On Point Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sustainable development projects across the country.

This initiative forms part of efforts to improve access to clean and safe drinking water, following an Adom News report in February 2025 which highlighted an acute water shortage in the community. The crisis had forced residents to rely on unhygienic sources for drinking water.

The boreholes were commissioned on May 17, 2025. Speaking at the event, Jeff Kavianu described the project as fulfilling and timely.

“It is a great honor and privilege to stand before you today as we gather to commission this borehole project — a project born of necessity, compassion, and our collective resolve to bring hope and dignity to the people of Bedwe,” he said.

“As many of you know, this initiative was undertaken in response to two critical issues: the longstanding lack of potable water in this community, and the recent pollution of the stream that has for decades served as the major source of water for residents. This borehole is not just a structure; it is a lifeline — a direct response to a problem that affects the health, productivity, and survival of our people.”

Mr. Kavianu acknowledged that many communities across Ghana face similar challenges and require urgent attention.

“Our children fall sick without clean water. Schools, clinics, and homes suffer. And with that, development comes to a halt. Today, we are proud to have stepped in not just as sponsors, but as partners in community development. We did what we could with the means available to us to bring some relief to the community.”

He stressed that such interventions should not be one-off initiatives.

“The needs of Agotime — indeed many rural communities in Ghana — go far beyond the capacity of individuals or a few organisations. That is why we are using this occasion to respectfully call on the central government to prioritise water infrastructure in these communities. Clean water should not be a privilege reserved for urban areas. It should not be left to chance or charity. It must be a national priority.”

Mr. Kavianu further urged agencies such as the Ghana Water Company and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency to act swiftly to provide sustainable and scalable solutions for rural communities.

“We are not asking for the impossible. We are asking for what is right and fair. The borehole is a good beginning, but the work must continue. Our people deserve more. They deserve better.”

To the people of Agotime, he added: “This borehole is now part of your community. Take care of it, maintain it, and protect it. Let it serve not only this generation, but many unborn. Let today mark a turning point — not only for Agotime but for all communities in Ghana still struggling with access to clean water. Let this modest achievement echo all the way to Accra and spark a renewed national commitment to water security for every Ghanaian, no matter where they live.”

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agotime-Ziope, Alfred Klu Odikro, on behalf of the community, expressed gratitude to the donors for their kind gesture.

He assured them that the community and the District Assembly would ensure proper maintenance of the project to serve its intended purpose.

Mr. Odikro also used the occasion to appeal to NGOs, stakeholders, individuals, and philanthropists to support the community with further developmental projects.

At the commissioning ceremony, the Founder and Executive Director of Young Visionary Leaders Ghana, Joseph Tettey Afangbe expressed gratitude to the partners.

The project addresses the critical need for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in schools, directly contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 6.

With over 570 million children globally lacking access to basic drinking water at school, this initiative sets a positive example.

“This mechanized water project guarantees access to clean water, advancing the health, dignity, and future of our young women,” said Mr. Afangbe.

“It’s an investment in their education, empowerment, and sustainable development.”

The partnership between Young Visionary Leaders Ghana and Danish organizations demonstrates the power of collaboration across borders.

Mr. Afangbe concluded, “May this project inspire more initiatives like it, and may Kumasi Girls Senior High School continue to thrive, producing leaders who will carry forward the torch of progress.”
