Mayweather attended the showpiece event in Arizona as Kansas City Chiefs took on the Philadelphia Eagles, and he could not resist gambling on the final result.

The 45-year-old backed the Eagles to win, and was so confident that he put $10,000 on it.

The match proved to be an epic contest that twisted one way and then the other, before the Chiefs eventually prevailed 38-35 thanks to an inspired display from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

This was bad news for Mayweather, who posted on Instagram that his gamble has failed to pay off.

Floyd Mayweather lost $10,000 betting on Philadelphia Eagles to beat Kansas City Chiefs

However, he walked away $500 better off as he bet on the Eagles to be winning at half tim

But he later confirmed that he had placed a second bet on the Eagles to be winning at half time.

That one did come in, as Philadelphia led 24-14 at the interval before Kansas turned things around in the final two quarters.

Once again, Mayweather placed $10,000 on the half time result, and he earned himself $20,500, meaning that when factoring in his initial stake he still made $500 overall.

Mayweather used the moniker ‘Money’ in the latter stages of his boxing career as he became the biggest PPV star in the sport.

His fights against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor saw him earn upwards of $100m on both occasions as he more than lived up to his nickname.

Having retired from the professional ranks in 2017, Mayweather has continued to be involved in exhibition bouts in recent years, and is set to headline at London’s O2 Arena against former Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers on February 25.

He is due to take home millions from that event, and it appears that he is still making money away from the ring as well.

Mayweather made $178,000 per second in McGregor fight https://www.adomonline.com/mayweather-made-178000-per-second-mcgregor-fight/ Mon, 28 Aug 2017 11:34:06 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=438631 Congrats, you just made $178,041!
Well, that is, if you’re Floyd Mayweather, standing in the ring against Conor McGregor on Saturday night — and you took one second to read that sentence.
In what has to be the biggest single payout in sports history, the 40-year-old Mayweather stands to make a total of $300 million for his win over 29-year-old MMA superstar McGregor. (He’d have made the same win or lose, so the fact that he won by KO to preserve his perfect 50-0 record is just gravy.)
Saturday night’s fight carried a $100 million guaranteed purse for Mayweather, but he also gets a sizeable chunk of the pay-per-view from Showtime. Estimates range from $150 million to $200 million for that part, so we’re giving the benefit of the doubt (and his own personal estimate) here.
The fight went nine full 3-minute rounds, plus 1:05 of Round 10 before it was stopped, for a total of 28 minutes, 5 seconds. That’s 1,685 seconds in all, meaning Mayweather was working for $178,041 per second — about twice the $83,000-per-second average he made in 12 rounds against Manny Pacquiao.
McGregor didn’t exactly walk away poor: His guaranteed purse was $30 million, more than all his MMA prizes combined. He stands to get some Showtime money, too, but nothing like what Mayweather brought in for his final performance.
In terms of straight salary, $300 million is more than any pro athlete has made over a career, let alone a single night — largely due to salary cap and revenue restrictions. There have been plenty of $100 million contracts, but those are usually spread over several years.
In other words, it’s safe to say that Floyd Mayweather is the highest-paid athlete the world has ever seen, at least in terms of time spent engaged in his sport.
And chances are it only took him a second or two to eclipse the highest-paid person you know.

The Michigan native defeated McGregor in the 10th round with a technical knockout, keeping Mayweather’s perfect record in mint condition. Though there was intense exchanges of insults between McGregor and Mayweather in the weeks before the match, the two fighters hugged after Mayweather secured his win.

Mayweather v McGregor: Tickets on StubHub for $150,000 https://www.adomonline.com/mayweather-v-mcgregor-tickets-stubhub-150000/ Fri, 28 Jul 2017 08:42:22 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=339011 It is being billed as the biggest (and possibly richest) fight in combat sports history – and tickets are on sale at eye-watering prices.
When former five-weight boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight title-holder Conor McGregor step into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on 26 August, some 20,000 people will be in the arena.
The scrap for tickets during Monday’s release was intense, short-lived and disappointing for the majority. But will anyone be willing to shell out $150,000 (£115,000) to be there?
Ticket resale website StubHub has tickets on sale at that price, with several others at a comparatively cheap $100,000 (£75,000).
American Mayweather, 40, will come out of retirement to face McGregor in the 29-year-old Irishman’s first professional boxing bout.
McGregor’s lack of experience has led to some criticism of the bout, from which both men are expected to earn as much as $100m (£78.4m).
This was not Dana White’s plan…
UFC president Dana White wanted to avoid a repeat of Mayweather’s 2015 bout with Manny Pacquiao, for which many tickets fell into the hands of brokers.
His solution was to sell seats through Ticketmaster, with each purchase limited to two tickets, and any transaction only possible with a code issued to Ticketmaster members.
But codes – priced at $200 (£153) – were quickly available to buy on Ebay, allowing non-members to access Ticketmaster, where prices ranged from £385-£7,706.
StubHub is yet to sell any of the tickets listed by users at $150,000, and told BBC Sport $3,265 (£2,500) is the average price at which seats have changed hands.
The cheapest ticket available on the site – for a position in the upper tier, in a row yet to be determined – is $1,875 (£1,433).
Speaking earlier this week, White said: “A lot of shady things can go on with tickets, as if they aren’t expensive enough.
“The fight is making enough money, you don’t have to go around and sell the tickets to brokers. Everybody is making enough money – stop.
“I wanted everybody to buy their own tickets. I’m buying my own, as are Conor and Floyd.”
The cinema option
Mayweather Promotions has negotiated a deal to broadcast the fight in 400 cinemas across the US – and organiser Fathom Events told BBC Sport it expects “sold-out auditoriums” at an average cost of $40 (£31) a seat.
It is estimated the combination of pay-per-view revenue, ticket sales, sponsorship, merchandise sales and receipts from cinema ticket or closed circuit television venues will generate about $600m.
The number of pay-per-view buys will prove pivotal in whether the bout becomes the richest of all time.
Mayweather’s bout with Pacquiao – regarded as the richest in history, with total revenue of about $623m (£476m) – had 4.6 million buys.

Mayweather’s visit to sell Ghana to the world – BabyJet Promotions https://www.adomonline.com/mayweathers-visit-sell-ghana-world-babyjet-promotions/ Thu, 08 Jun 2017 07:52:35 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=162411 The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BabyJet Promotions, Samuel Anim Addo, has said that the arrival of American Legendary boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Ghana would have a positive impact on the nation’s brand.

The undefeated pound for pound boxing legend would visit Ghana for the first time on June 15, 2017.

In an interview with GNA sports, Mr. Anim Addo said “Floyd Mayweather’s arrival would have a positive impact on ‘brand Ghana’, people should forget about the amount of money involved. He might even spend more money than what he has taken from us before he leaves the country.”

“He spent over 1 million dollars when he visited South Africa, and it is likely that he would spend more in Ghana. I would urge all Ghanaians to be a part of this event as we sell Ghana to the world, we should all embrace it and push Ghana to the level she deserves”.

“BabyJet promotions are proud to be part of this event, made possible by Upscale Entertainment. We know they have taken the risk to pay a huge sum of money to bring Floyd Mayweather to Ghana and we appreciate their efforts”, said Anim Addo As part of the activities lined up for the visit dubbed ‘Undefeated Tour’, Floyd Mayweather Jr would be present at the Bukom Arena to witness some boxing bouts on June 16th 2017.

According to Mr. Anim Addo, BabyJet Promotions are ready to present worth-watching bouts for Mayweather.

“On 16th June, BabyJet Promotions would give Floyd Mayweather Jr something special at the Bukom Arena, we have done it before, and we will do it again, as we resurrected Ghana Boxing, when we matched two bitter rivals, Emmanuel Tagoe and George Ashie at the Accra Sports Stadium. “It is not going to be different this year, especially in the presence of one of the all-time best athletes in the World.”

“There would be other Amateur bouts to support the event. Floyd Mayweather has got the eye to scout talented boxers and we are hopeful that our young boxers would give him a good impression of Ghana Boxing”, Anim Addo said.

Mayweather’s visit to Ghana: What’s in it for us? https://www.adomonline.com/mayweathers-visit-ghana-whats-us/ Mon, 05 Jun 2017 07:37:56 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=152911 On June 15, Floyd Mayweather will arrive in Ghana in the gentle cunning smile he wears anytime he tears his opponents apart in the ring.

With 49 fights without a defeat, 24 of which came through a knockout, the Playboy Mayweather has every right to embark on an “Undisputed Tour” of Africa, his “Motherland” as he puts it.

It will be two nights in Ghana with the champion, the money man who many times turned the dreaded boxing ring into a boxing clinic and forced his sworn enemies into sparring partners.

With his deadly left hand and a super quick right, Mayweather sent Ricky to the canvass, left Cotto crumbled and subjected many of his opponents to a thorough one sided beating.

Fast and furious in the ring, cheery and benevolent outside it, Mayweather will connect with his roots on his “Undisputed Tour” in Africa, Ghana, after bowing out of a hugely successful boxing career in 2015, a career many consider as the greatest of all time.

He will not be the first boxing legend to pay Ghana a visit but his, is special in many significant respects.

He comes at a time when Ghana’s boxing, a once popular sport, has taken an audacious dip with no World Champion yet to report. But this is a country that had, at a point, three world titles  after Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey and Nana Yaw Konadu did to their opponents what Mayweather enjoyed doing.

Interestingly, the sport is not lacking in talents; it is rather hungry and thirsty for resources to feed its many greatest potentials.

So if Upscale Entertainment is collaborating with the Multimedia Group and other partners to bring the legendary boxer to Ghana, his second time in Africa, after a 2014 visit to South Africa, many well meaning Ghanaians are asking, what are stakeholders doing to leverage on the huge benefits a once-in-a-lifetime-visit like this will have for Ghana?

Roni Boateng, the CEO of Upscale entertainment, the certified event organizers in Ghana, could not have said it any better when she said “Mayweather will bring a lot of attention to Ghana with this historic visit and we are excited about that.”

On his 2014 visit to South Africa and dwarfed by two huge members of his contingent, the money man became the icon, a champion of peace, an ambassador against youth violence in a country where xenophobic attacks were rampant at the time. He did many things there but could do far more here in a country whose new president is talking of trade instead of aid.

One of the richest sports man in the world who walks his talk, Mayweather was damn right when he was quoted as saying “Why must I give to Africa?” Why must he when Africa on its own can stand without it been spoon fed by development partners.

His arrival in Ghana with an 18-man contingent, is money for the business men, the boxing fraternity, cultural and tourism experts, and the media magnates.

It is refreshing to know that the Baby Jet promotions, funded by yet another sporting icon, Ghana’s football great and Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan is playing a part in this iconic visit of a boxing legend.

We are told Mayweather will pay courtesy calls on the president as well as the Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Ashanti King and will be part of a fund raising dinner to be organised in his honour and a boxing event at the Bukom boxing arena.

These are great events which when marketed well will yield great dividends for a country reeling under economic challenges.

Money, Culture and Tourism

Floyd Mayweather is money. Culture is the Ashanti Kingdom and when the two ‘institutions’ combine Ghana’s tourism should be earning a few more dollars in revenue. Only a few months ago the world was awed by the celebration of the death of the Queen mother of the Ashanti stool Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa, Ampem II, the mother of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. And if by chance the world failed to notice, they will now because the man who grabs attention with a little twitch of his mouth, and with a fine mona lisa smile will hit the garden city. He will see at first hand, a kingdom robed in power, majesty and rich history. He might not meet anybody from his ancestral roots but he surely will meet the finest of African culture, a great rallying point for many Africans, black Americans in the diaspora.

Business opportunities

He is not only outstanding in his chosen profession, he is astute in making money. Money loves money and sees money in every venture. His visit to the president should to mark the beginning of great business discussions with key business men and women who are ready to trade ideas and make money as well. Ghana is replete with many business opportunities but the ‘village king’ mentality of many of our business men means Ghana will have to console itself with the crumbs of success when she has the power to dine with the finest on the globe. Mr President, get a man, woman to talk numbers with the money man and let’s see if something meaningful will not come out of this visit.

Motivation to the youth

A born hustler with pride , the grass to grace story of the money man should be a huge source of motivation to the country’s youth. Interestingly, after hanging his gloves in 2015 but eyeing a $100 million McGregor bout return, Mayweather, has since gone into motivation. Even though two days is not enough for many things, if I were part of the organisers, apart from having a small boxing clinic for up and coming boxers to learn the trade from the man himself, I will also have a small session for the money man to meet with a section of the country’s youth for a talk. It can be on anything, from mob injustice to addiction for success. Who knows, just by listening, the whole world view of a young man, woman will change.

The money man is on a mission to find a new Floyd Mayweather. One who will break his record and set a new one. Ghana may well be the source of that new money man.
