In a statement, the Police said the incident occurred on Friday, January 3, 2026, at about 7:20 p.m., after a distress call was received regarding a fight involving a group of young men at the fuel station.

The Mankessim night patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene. However, upon arrival, the youth involved fled after pelting stones at each other and dispersed upon sighting the police.

According to preliminary information gathered by the Police, earlier in the day at about 2:00 p.m., youth from Ekumfi Eyisam had attended a wedding in Mankessim. During the event, they received reports that one of their colleagues had been attacked and beaten by some Mankessim youth at the Accra lorry station while searching for transport to Eyisam.

After the wedding, the Eyisam youth reportedly moved to the Accra lorry station to confront the alleged attacker. A person was identified to them as the suspect, prompting a chase into a nearby chicken shop close to the Shell fuel station. In the process, one of the glass doors at the shop was broken before the group retreated.

The situation escalated when some Mankessim youth also rushed to the scene, resulting in a stone-throwing confrontation between the two groups. The clash was disrupted when police arrived, causing both sides to flee.

One person, identified only as Wisdom, sustained injuries and was rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where he is responding to treatment.

Police said calm has since been restored, and the area was monitored throughout the night to prevent any further disturbances.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, October 25, 2024, during preparations for the Nkusukum Odambea Festival in Nkusukum, Mankessim.

Mekyeawo was fatally shot during a ritual procession to slaughter a cow, where tensions reportedly arose between different factions within the traditional area.

According to witnesses, the procession was interrupted by individuals associated with the Nkusukum Obaatan Division, leading to a confrontation. During the altercation, Nana Beeyin II allegedly drew a firearm and fatally shot Mekyeawo in the head.

Following the incident, the chief turned himself in at the Mankessim Divisional Police Command, after which he was brought before Cape Coast District Court 1 on Tuesday, October 29.

The prosecution, led by ASP Daniel Gadzo, has charged Nana Beeyin II with murder. During the court hearing, the prosecutor requested additional time for further investigations, given the sensitive nature of the case.

Man gunned down over chieftaincy wrangling in Mankessim https://www.adomonline.com/man-gunned-down-over-chieftaincy-wrangling-in-mankessim/ Sat, 26 Oct 2024 11:35:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2464706 A young man, Ato Kyinam, believed to be in his early 30s, was fatally shot by an unknown assailant Friday afternoon in Mankessim during rituals to commence the Odambea Festival of the People of Nkusukum Traditional Area.

The celebration of Odambea extends through 20 communities including Biriwa, Anomabo, Kromantsir, and Saltpond with Yamoransa as its headquarters.

However, prolonged chieftaincy disputes in the Area, had marred the beauty of the festival which for many years had not been fully celebrated by all its people.

Sometime in July this year, the Chiefs and People of Yamoransa led by Okogyeman Okese Essandoh IX, Omanhen of Nkusukum Traditional Area, re-launched it at Yamoransa where a five-member planning committee was instituted to plan its 50th celebration next year.

A distinctive logo for the anniversary featuring a prominent Eagle that guided the Nkusukum people from Tekyiman to their present location was also unveiled.

Eyewitnesses of the Friday incident alleged that when processing through the Mankessim township with a bull to commence rituals for the festival, a faction of people engaged in chieftaincy litigation, obstructed sections of the road during the procession.

This they said sparked a dispute that escalated into violence, resulting in the tragic death of the victim.

The witnesses confirmed that the police were present at the scene but, were tight-lipped when the GNA tried to make enquiries about the incident.

Fortunately, no casualty was recorded but properties worth millions were destroyed.

Ato Brown of local radio station, Coastal FM confirmed this on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem.

According to him, the gas explosion occurred at a bakery near a Methodist church in the area around 4:am Wednesday dawn.

He indicated that, the owner claimed the tube connected to the cylinder was leaking and quickly caught fire.

Ato Brown said the owner then rushed to call fire service to douse the fire to prevent it from spreading but there was no access route for the fire hydrants, it spread to other parts of the house destroying ovens and other cylinders in the home.

This occurred when the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly shut down six fuel stations at Mankessim, as a proactive measure to prevent any disaster.

The operation, which started on Monday and saw the closure of Shell filling station in the area, is to be replicated in all communities in the Municipality.
