The body of the late traditional ruler has been lying in repose as traditional leaders; family members and the general public solemnly pay their last respects.

The burial rites, known in Akan as ‘Dɔte Yie’, is a period of mourning as people clad in black and red participate in several traditional and cultural activities.

Traditional priests have been attracting attention with their rituals, processions and antics setting a somber tone for people to pay their tribute.

Among the guests trooping to Asante Mampong are members of the National House of Chiefs, Asante royals, politicians, celebrities, representatives of various groups, and natives and friends of Mampong.

On Sunday, members of the legal fraternity staged a mock court proceeding to pay tribute to Daasebre Osei Bonsu for his dedication and contribution to the legal profession.

As an academic and administrator, he served as the Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) from 1991 until his retirement in 2000, after 28 years of service.

Mampong Traditional Council Bans Public Processions, Funerals Ahead of Late Chief’s One Week Observation https://www.adomonline.com/mampong-traditional-council-bans-public-processions-funerals-ahead-of-late-chiefs-one-week-observation/ Tue, 06 May 2025 16:49:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2532274 The Asante Mampong Traditional Council has imposed a ban on all public processions, funerals, and noise-making activities ahead of the one-week observation of the late Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

The one-week observation is scheduled to take place on Monday, May 12, 2025, and the ban will remain in force until the final funeral rites are completed, expected to be within a month.

This decision follows arrangements made by the Funeral Committee, chaired by the Adontenhene of the Traditional Council and Chief of Ejura, Barimah Osei Hwedie II.

He has urged the public to respect the arrangements made by the traditional council.

The date for the main funeral arrangements will be announced pending a meeting with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He commended the Queen Mother for the Asante Mampong Traditional Council, Nana Agyakomaa Difie II, and other council members for their guidance and support in the planning process.

He assured the public of maximum security, adding that the committee has met with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in the four municipalities within the traditional area.

Each of the four municipalities will provide security personnel for both the one-week observation and the final funeral rites.

The Adontenhene urged the public to come out in their numbers as a show of appreciation to the late chief for his dedication to the development of Asanteman and Ghana.

Tetteh Quarshie is Ga, not from Mampong – Chief replies Akufo-Addo [audio] https://www.adomonline.com/tetteh-quarshie-is-ga-not-from-mampong-chief-replies-akufo-addo/ Thu, 07 Mar 2024 09:11:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2365985 Chief of Mampong, Osabarima Kwame Dartey III, has said late Tetteh Quarshie, the pioneer of cocoa farming in Ghana is a Ga from the Greater Accra region.

He debunked a claim by President Akufo-Addo that Tetteh Quarshie was from Mampong in the Eastern Region.

In his speech delivered at the 67th Independence Day Anniversary on March 6, 2024, President Akufo-Addo, while highlighting the contribution of the region to the cocoa industry of Ghana, acknowledged the role of Tetteh Quarshie, who introduced cocoa to Ghana from Equatorial Guinea.

He also mentioned that Tetteh Quarshie was from the Eastern Region.

“Indeed, Tetteh Quarshie, an indigene of Mampong Akuapem, here in the Eastern Region, brought back, in the late 19th century, the cocoa pod from Fernando Po, now Bioko, in Equatorial Guinea, an act which led him and others to establish our nation’s first commercial cocoa farms here in the Eastern Region,” the president said in his speech.

However, in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Osabarima Dartey noted that, while Mampong has its own historical significance, there is no credible information to support the assertion that Tetteh Quarshie was a native of that town.

He said when he brought the cocoa, he stayed in Mampong, and he believes it’s because of his good works that he was seen as a native of Mampong.

But Osabarima Dartey said it’s clear in history books and well-known that Tetteh Quarshie is a Ga and not Akuapem so Ghanaians should take note.

NPP primaries: Aspirant calls for re-run over ‘violations’ https://www.adomonline.com/npp-primaries-aspirant-calls-for-re-run-over-violations/ Fri, 26 Jun 2020 21:43:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1817945 A New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary aspirant has petitioned the National Executive Council to annul and re-run the Mampong primary.

Benjamin Arthur’s petition follows what he described as “the injustice, unfair treatment” meted out to him and “the violation of the rules and regulations meant for running the primaries.”

According to him, the photo album used in conducting the primary was in violation of Articles 34 and 39 (f) of the Rules and Regulations Act in the party’s constitution as a result of the removal and replacement of certain delegates in the register.

He said although he and another aspiring Member Parliament, as well as other affected polling station executives, had petitioned against the use of that photo album, their pleas fell on deaf ears.

“There was the assurance that the right album will be used and that we should wait for the album being brought from National (John Boadu) for exhibition and comments,” however this too had proven futile as, on June 18, the wrong album was served by the Ashanti Regional Secretariat.
