According to the South Dayi MP, Parliament has been duly served with a court order challenging Nyindam’s legitimacy and directing a re-run of the parliamentary election in the constituency. He argued that allowing the MP to speak would contradict the court’s directive.

Despite the Minority presenting Nyindam to participate in proceedings, Dafeamekpor asked the Speaker to deny him the opportunity.

In response, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin called on the Speaker to disregard the request, insisting that due process must be respected. He also cautioned Dafeamekpor to exercise restraint, noting that Parliament is a forum for intellectual discourse, not confrontational exchanges.

Vetting Chaos: I didn’t fight, I wanted to restore order – Dafeamekpor https://www.adomonline.com/vetting-chaos-i-didnt-fight-i-wanted-to-restore-order-dafeamekpor/ Mon, 10 Feb 2025 13:15:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2502659

Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has denied allegations of engaging in a physical altercation during the recent vetting chaos, asserting that his actions were focused on restoring order rather than escalating tensions.

His clarification follows accusations that he clashed with former Deputy Minister of Transport and MP for Gushegu, Alhassan Tampuli, during proceedings on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Appearing before the Ad-hoc Committee investigating the incident on Monday, February 10, Dafeamekpor firmly denied grabbing Tampuli’s clothing.

“I don’t recall ever holding his dress at all. If I had, it would have led to something else because I am also strong enough. I had my two hands up while he held the front of my fugu. I was only exchanging words with him,” he stated.

Dafeamekpor explained that his intention was to de-escalate the situation, reminding Tampuli that both of them were lawyers and should not resort to physical confrontation. “I told him, ‘Oh bro, why do you want us to fight over this? We are lawyers; we are custodians; we don’t do this.’ Eventually, he smiled and let go of my fugu,” he said.

He also revealed that he intervened to free Tano South MP Charles Asiedu, who was reportedly trapped in Tampuli’s grip during the incident.

Reflecting on the broader context, Dafeamekpor suggested that the chaos was driven by the Minority’s intent to block proceedings that day. “No, I didn’t fight. The Minority was interested in preventing any business from being conducted. Perhaps Tampuli didn’t like that I helped Asiedu out of his grip, but in the end, he smiled, and that was it. It was not a fight at all,” he added.

Nanton MP was stitched up in Parliament’s washroom – Majority Chief Whip reveals https://www.adomonline.com/nanton-mp-was-stitched-up-in-parliaments-washroom-majority-chief-whip-reveals/ Mon, 03 Apr 2023 12:56:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2235771 The Majority Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu, has shockingly revealed that the Member of Parliament for Nanton, Mohammed Hardi Tuferu, was stitched up in Parliament’s washroom after suffering a near-fatal accident on his way to vote for the passage of the three new tax bills.

Mohammed Tuferu was involved in an accident ahead of a crucial vote on the government’s revenue bills on Friday.

His car reportedly somersaulted several times before landing upside down.

The MP is reported to have suffered a deep cut on his forehead but was still taken to Parliament to vote before he was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Some Ghanaians have described the decision to rush the MP to Parliament after a near-fatal accident as reckless and insensitive.

Bbut speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, April 3, Mr Iddrisu said safety precautions were taken before the MP was sent to Parliament to participate in proceedings.

“The time we were taking the voice vote, he had come to Parliament and I put him in the washroom, we didn’t put him in the Chamber, we put him in the washroom and brought the nurses from Parliament and a doctor to attend to him. The Majority Leader came, and the nurses from Parliament came to attend to him in the washroom”.

“He had minor bruises on his face, so they cleaned it up and even stitched it up. So he was stitched in Parliament in the washroom.”

Mr Iddrisu also dismissed claims that several other majority MPs were absent from Parliament.

According to him, no MP was outside the country and nothing untoward was done to pass the government’s new tax bills.

If you want my position, you can come for it – Adwoa Safo told [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/if-you-want-my-position-you-can-come-for-it-adwoa-safo-told-audio/ Mon, 21 Mar 2022 14:43:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2093755 Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, has once again lashed out at Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo over her continuous absence from parliamentary duties.

According to the Nsawam Adoagyiri Member of Parliament (MP), he cannot fathom why Miss Safo will punish the government in such a manner.

To him, the party has done a lot to which Miss Safo needs to be grateful for rather than repay it in the manner she’s doing by holding the party to ransom.

Reports were rife that Miss Safo who has been in the US since August 2021 is asking for the Deputy Majority Leader job in Parliament as a condition for her return to the country.

Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, when asked about it indicated he is not aware of such demands.

But, in a new development, Mr Annoh-Dompreh has indicated his readiness to relinquish his position if it is what his colleague wants.

“What wrong have we done for her to treat us this way. I have vowed that if she wants my position as the Chief Whip, she can say it and I will give it to her and stay away,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Okay FM.

He added that his colleague should tread cautiously, stating her actions do not speak well for her political career.

“If she has a conscience, she must rethink her decision. She is not punishing the government but herself and if I was her, with where issues have gotten to, I would set apart a whole day and weep,” he bemoaned.

He went on to apologise for the chaos in the Chamber over the budget.

“On behalf of both sides, I apologise to Ghanaians because they voted us into those positions but at the right time, there will be a joint press conference to deal with the issues,” Mr Annoh-Dompreh, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam-Adoagyire, disclosed in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM.

Budget rejection: Annor-Dompreh challenges Speaker on NPP MP who was present in Parliament https://www.adomonline.com/budget-rejection-annor-dompreh-challenges-speaker-on-npp-mp-who-was-present-in-parliament/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 18:18:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2052031 The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has expressed reservations about a purported message from Speaker Alban Bagbin to Ghanaians.

According to him, the Speaker must be able to come out and reveal the identity of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) who stayed after their walkout.

“If he was smart enough to know that one member of the Majority sat at the corner then he should as well be smart to identify that member otherwise he should stop wasting our ears,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

The Nsawam Adoagyiri MP has argued the assertion cannot be correct as they monitored the proceedings on screen after the walkout.

“Assuming without admitting what he said is correct then he should have revealed who sat at the corner and we will agree that one person has abstained. However, what he said was 137 against 0,” he fumed.
