Mr. Mahama stated that, unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, who posed 170 questions to his late former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, he needs just five answers.

Addressing electorates as part of his Northern Regional campaign tour, the former President emphasized that the cedi is still struggling to find its feet.

“He posed 170 questions to my Vice President Amissah Arthur, but he should just answer these five questions on the economy,” he said.

Below are the questions Mr. Mahama seeks answers to with 39 days remaining until the December 7 election:

1. Why is the exchange rate GH₵17 to the dollar?

2. Why has Ghana’s debt risen from GH₵120 billion to GH₵767 billion in eight years?

3. Why is inflation where it is; why did it rise to 54% under your administration for eight years?

4. Why did you borrow 42 billion from the Bank of Ghana(BoG)?.

“He should come and answer those questions; we don’t need 170 questions. he can answer them willingly but Ghanaians want answers to these five questions,” he added.

5. Why has he run away from the economy to digitalisation? he used to make so much noise but now he is all about digitalisation.

According to Mr. Mahama, the NPP’s flagbearer only stammers when he is struggling to answer difficult questions from citizens.

Addressing supporters during his campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, August 27, Mr. Mahama said Dr. Bawumia, who is known for making long political speeches, stammered because he was lying.

“When you do something with devious intentions, it backfires on you. You know how to tell if people are lying: if people who are smooth talkers, who can speak like machine guns, suddenly become stammerers, you know they are lying.

“Somebody who has been speaking ‘ratatatata’ like an AK-47, then suddenly, at a media encounter, starts stammering,” he added.

The former President also alleged that the NPP’s media engagement was an attempt to divert attention from the NDC’s manifesto launch.

“We announced that we were going to launch our manifesto on the 24th of August.

“Immediately, our opponents announced that they were going to do a media encounter on the 25th of August, the very next day. You know, the intention for doing that media encounter the next day after we had announced our manifesto was to turn the attention of Ghanaians from the NDC manifesto.

“That was the main reason that they decided to do a media encounter the very next day after we launched our manifesto. But you see when you do something with devious intentions, it backfires on you,” he said.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia argued that Mr Mahama would not be as accountable to the people since he would not seek re-election.

In contrast, as someone who has not previously served as president, Dr Bawumia expressed his commitment to being more accountable to Ghanaians if elected, as he would have the opportunity to seek re-election and face the electorate again.

“Apart from my proven track record as vice-president, hard work, credibility and vision for the future of Ghana, another reason I should be voted for is that I will be more accountable to the people of Ghana than John Mahama.” Dr Bawumia said.

“As president, I will be more accountable because I will have another opportunity to seek the people’s mandate after 2024. Mahama has just one term and will not come back to Ghanaians to seek re-elections so he will not be accountable,” he added.

About the upcoming 2024 elections, Dr Bawumia emphasized the importance of electing a leader with credibility and a demonstrable track record in addressing generational challenges and combating corruption.

Asserting his candidacy, Dr Bawumia declared that he has proven himself as a problem solver and staunch advocate against corruption through the implementation of various policies during his tenure as Vice President.

“Ghana needs problem solvers, generational thinkers and people with innovative ideas,” Dr Bawumia said.

“I am a problem solver and a generational thinker with innovative ideas. I have a solid track record as vice-president to prove it,” he added.
