President John Mahama has, for the first time, opened up about former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s congratulatory call following his victory in the 2024 elections.

According to him, he was asleep when the concession and congratulatory call came through.

The President recounted the profound moment during a fellowship with the clergy in Kumasi on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

He disclosed that he woke up after his aides informed him that he had an important call.

Confused by the urgency, he asked who wanted to speak to him, only to be told that it was his “brother,” the Vice President. He quickly freshened up before taking the call.

The President acknowledged that he had not anticipated such an early concession, as Ghanaians were still awaiting official results from the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr. Mahama testified that Dr. Bawumia displayed statesmanship and humility in his words.

Dr. Bawumia, on December 8, 2024, conceded defeat—a move that earned him praise and admiration from many.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate stated that his decision was motivated by a desire to avoid further tensions and ensure peace in the country.

The Association also praised Mahama for his bold decision to maintain a female vice-presidential candidate, making history in the process.

Archbishop Adonteng congratulates Mahama; calls for strategic leadership https://www.adomonline.com/archbishop-adonteng-congratulates-mahama-calls-for-strategic-leadership/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 13:45:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484257 Ghanaian-American religious leader and General Overseer of Divine Word International Ministries, Archbishop Kofi Adonteng Boateng, has extended heartfelt congratulations to President-elect John Mahama following his electoral victory.

Speaking during a sermon in the United States, Archbishop Boateng urged the incoming administration to prioritize investment, infrastructure, and anti-corruption reforms as key pillars for Ghana’s transformation.

Archbishop Boateng emphasized the immense potential Ghana holds for attracting private investment.

He noted that with a well-structured system, Ghana could offer unparalleled returns for investors, far surpassing global competitors.

Reflecting on a social media post, he recounted how a Nigerian chose Ghana as a preferred destination over cities like London and Berlin, underscoring the nation’s reputation as a land of opportunities.

The Archbishop identified infrastructure, particularly road networks, as a critical area requiring immediate attention.

He asserted that improving roads would not only enhance connectivity but also boost commerce, making Ghana more attractive for business activities.

He also stressed the importance of eradicating corruption by instituting laws to tackle fraud and hold perpetrators accountable.

“If we can create a transparent system free of fraud and corruption, Ghana will emerge as a leading destination for global investment,” Archbishop Boateng said.

“The potential is already there; it only needs to be harnessed through good governance.”

He also prayed for President-elect Mahama, encouraging him to surround himself with honest and competent advisors who will guide him to make decisions that promote justice, fairness, and equality for all Ghanaians.

Archbishop Boateng took the opportunity to commend Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his remarkable leadership during the election period.

He praised Dr. Bawumia for graciously conceding defeat even before the Electoral Commission’s official announcement, an act he described as a rare example of patriotism and statesmanship in African politics.

“This selfless act by Vice President Bawumia demonstrates his love for Ghana and his commitment to democracy. It is a quality we must celebrate,” Archbishop Boateng stated.

In his message, Archbishop Boateng also reflected on the prophetic significance of the black star in Ghana’s flag.

He explained that the black star symbolizes Ghana’s role as a beacon of hope for the African diaspora, a spiritual and cultural homeland for black people around the globe.

“The black star is a prophetic symbol of Ghana’s destiny to lead and inspire black people worldwide,” he said.

“Ghana is seen as a peaceful and welcoming home by many, and this identity is something we must embrace and nurture.”

Archbishop Boateng concluded by urging his congregation and the international community to choose Ghana as a prime destination for their investments.

He expressed confidence that with the right leadership and reforms, Ghana could truly live up to its potential as a global example of progress and prosperity.

The Coalition lauded his leadership and commitment to addressing critical national issues, particularly the pervasive problem of illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.

In a statement signed by GCAG Convenor, Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, the group acknowledged Mahama’s proactive stance on environmental conservation, as highlighted in his manifesto and public engagements.

The coalition expressed optimism about the President-elect’s promise to prioritize the restoration of Ghana’s degraded forests, rivers, and communities.

Restore Ghana

The Coalition called on the incoming administration to take immediate steps, including suspending mining activities in forest reserves and river bodies, a move aligned with Mahama’s pledge to ‘Restore Ghana’ by reversing the environmental degradation caused by galamsey.

It also emphasised the importance of holding illegal miners accountable, particularly addressing lawlessness linked to companies like Akonta Mining Ltd. The GCAG further recommended completing the repeal of LI 2462, which they see as a significant barrier to fighting illegal mining.

The group also encouraged the new government to expand social contract initiatives, including the 120-day pledge to combat galamsey.

The GCAG stressed the urgency of swift and decisive emergency measures to comprehensively tackle the crisis of illegal mining in Ghana.

The Director of Legal Affairs, Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo has stated the NDC was confident about its victory ahead of the electoral process.

However, they did not expect this margin of win in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, December 9, 2024, declared the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama as the President-elect.

The declaration the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa explained, was based on the results received from 267 constituencies.
Mr Mahama obtained 6,328,397, constituting 56.55% while his main contender, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes, comprising 41.61%.

The difference between Mr Mahama’s votes and Dr Bawumia’s is 1,671, 093.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Mr Tamakloe said no individual can take credit for the electoral outcome.

He noted that, the NDC worked hard and campaign actively but they owe their victory to God.

“With this kind of victory, it is the doing of the Lord. As the saying goes, we are basically pencils in His hand and He uses us for what he wants.

“We were confident but with this over 1.6 million margin in the presidential election and 187 parliamentary seats, this can only be God. He did it just not to share His glory,” he said.

Mr Tamklo added that, the NDC admits there is an enormous responsibility on them and will not take their victory and the expectations of Ghanaians for granted.

Mahama wins elections; Bawumia wins admiration after early concession https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-wins-elections-bawumia-wins-admiration-after-early-concession/ Wed, 11 Dec 2024 18:18:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2482596 Ghana’s December 7, 2024 elections have concluded with dramatic twists, cementing the West African nation’s reputation as a beacon of democratic maturity.

In a highly anticipated showdown between former President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the former emerged victorious, securing a win that has resonated across the political landscape.

However, it was Dr. Bawumia’s early and gracious concession that won him widespread admiration, capturing the hearts of Ghanaians and the global political community alike.

After a highly contested race, former President John Mahama, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clinched the presidency with a decisive majority.

Mr. Mahama’s win marks a significant return to power after he lost to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections.

This victory underscores the enduring appeal of his political vision and leadership style, as well as the desire for change among a sizable portion of the electorate.

In his victory speech, Mr. Mahama emphasized the need for unity and healing within the country, calling for all Ghanaians to come together to tackle the pressing economic and social challenges.

“This is not just a victory for me, but for all Ghanaians who yearn for a new direction,” Mr. Mahama said, his tone one of reconciliation.

His call for national unity is seen as an attempt to bridge the divide that often characterizes the political discourse in Ghana.

Mr. Mahama’s campaign focused on addressing the economic challenges facing Ghana, with promises of job creation, economic diversification, and strengthening of healthcare and education systems.

His ability to connect with voters, especially the youth and the working-class, played a key role in his success, as did his unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the country.

While Mahama’s win marks the culmination of his political journey, Bawumia’s actions following the results have left a lasting impression.

Dr. Bawumia, the candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is widely respected for his intellect, charisma, and forward-thinking policies.

Throughout the election, Bawumia’s campaign showcased his expertise in economic management and technology-driven development, positioning him as a modernizer for Ghana.

However, despite his commendable efforts, Bawumia did not secure the presidency. In a move that garnered widespread praise, he offered an early concession, acknowledging Mahama’s victory with grace and humility.

His decision to concede early in the process was seen as a testament to his integrity, a rare demonstration of sportsmanship/statemanship that contrasted sharply with the often-contentious political climate across the globe.

“I congratulate President Mahama on his victory and wish him success in leading our nation forward,” Bawumia stated.

“Ghana’s democracy has spoken, and it is now our responsibility to support the new leadership for the betterment of our country.”

This gesture of respect and acceptance was lauded by observers both locally and internationally, further solidifying Dr. Bawumia’s reputation as a statesman dedicated to Ghana’s democratic principles.

The peaceful and orderly conduct of the election, coupled with the dignified behaviour exhibited by both candidates, speaks volumes about Ghana’s political maturity.

Amidst global concerns about democratic backsliding, Ghana continues to serve as a model for peaceful transitions of power in Africa.

Dr. Bawumia’s early concession and Mr. Mahama’s win represent more than just a political shift; they reflect the evolving nature of Ghana’s democracy.

This election season, although marred by economic challenges, has provided a platform for political dialogue and civic engagement.

Both Mahama’s victory and Bawumia’s concession are seen as pivotal moments that reinforce the strength and resilience of Ghanaian democracy.

As Mahama begins his second term, the country faces significant challenges, including an economy grappling with inflation, unemployment, and public debt.

However, Ghanaians remain hopeful, believing that their new leadership will rise to the occasion and steer the country toward prosperity.

Meanwhile, Bawumia’s continued presence in the political sphere promises a strong opposition that will keep the government accountable.

Already, transition is ongoing which is centered on rebuilding the economy and addressing the urgent needs of the Ghanaian people.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia’s position within the NPP and his future role in the country’s political landscape will continue to spark speculation.

Despite the loss, Dr. Bawumia’s actions have undoubtedly earned him respect and admiration, making him a key player in Ghana’s political future.

Ultimately, the 2024 elections have proven that, in Ghana, politics can be both competitive and civil, with the country’s democracy emerging stronger than ever.

Akufo-Addo has acknowledged how crucial the process is to protect the interests of Ghanaians.

The President pledged his commitment as part of a meeting with his successor at the Jubilee House on Wednesday.

The President told journalists that this preliminary meeting was “To assure him of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that this administration takes off in the best of conditions.”

Mr Mahama accepting Akufo-Addo’s assurance also appreciated him for the warm reception.

“We had a very cordial meeting. At the time he called, he suggested 11 am this morning to have the preliminary meeting towards setting up the transitional team. And that meeting has just ended, was very cordial, and I think we were very happy to be together,” he said.

He further expressed his optimism about the transition process and cooperation in due course.

“I’m happy at the assurance he has given us that we’re going to work together in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition, and I believe that even after that transition, it will be necessary for us to continue to keep a channel of communication so that Ghana’s democratic credentials are consolidated and we all work together in the national interest,” Mr Mahama added.

On Tuesday, Mr Mahama announced a 10-member transition team tasked with overseeing the smooth transfer of power from the outgoing administration.

Akufo-Addo has also appointed his team members to be chaired by Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare.

The transition process, he said should continue only after all parliamentary seats in contention are resolved.

Mr Gyewu-Appiah who had vowed to set himself ablaze if former President John Mahama wins the election has said he is ashamed.

Based on the results received from 267 constituencies, the Electoral Commission(EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa on Monday, December 9, declared the National Democratic Congress(NDC) presidential candidate as the winner.
Mr Mahama obtained 6,328,397, constituting 56.55% while his main opponent, the NPP’s Dr Mahamudu Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes, comprising 41.61%.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, Benjamin admitted he never anticipated this humiliating defeat talk less of the margin.

“I’m quiet because I’m ashamed. The gap Mahama has created is unimaginable and I never expected it. Even if there was to be a defeat, the margin shouldn’t have been this wide.

Going forward, Benjamin appealed to the NPP leadership to immediately begin a reconciliation process and work towards their victory in 2028.

Full text: Mahama’s victory speech https://www.adomonline.com/full-text-mahamas-victory-speech/ Tue, 10 Dec 2024 08:25:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481829 Our best days are ahead of us my brothers and sisters!

A while ago, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana declared me the winner of the 2024 presidential elections. I give thanks and praise to God almighty because this successful outcome is the doing of the Lord.

I want to thank the Vice President for his statesmanship in conceding the election long before the Commission declared the results. This concession largely diffused the tensions that characterise high-stakes elections such as this.

The results as declared by the EC show that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with me, John Dramani Mahama, as leader, has just chalked one of the most emphatic victories in the electoral history of the Fourth Republic.

We have, therefore, been bestowed with a very outstanding mandate by the good people of Ghana.

I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive such an overwhelming endorsement from the Ghanaian people, and I wish to thank all who made this possible by going out to vote for me.

I thank all Ghanaians for your continued belief in our democracy despite the severe crisis our nation is going through. I also congratulate our Parliamentary Candidates who have also swept the electoral landscape with a resounding victory.

I have a legion of thanks to give for this emphatic electoral success.

Let me begin by thanking the Almighty God—the creator of heaven and earth, for protecting and preserving us through this whole campaign period.

To paraphrase the Psalmist, I also give thanks to God for preparing a table before me in the presence of my ‘enemies’. And for anointing my head with oil and making my cup overflow.

Let me begin by thanking my wife, Lordina, and my family for standing by me through all the difficult Dmes when victory and success appeared elusive and out of sight.

On those gloomy occasions, you came through and offered me the encouragement to keep soldiering on.

I would like to thank the Vice President-elect Professor Jana Naana Opoku-Agyemang for being an exemplary and inspirational running mate.

Naana, your decency, humility, and sense of responsibility added so much to this campaign. The eyes of every young girl, not only in Ghana but in nations across this continent and the world are on you today.

Your name has become synonymous with breaking boundaries. You have opened the door for boundless opportunities for our female citizens.

Because of you, the people of Ghana can celebrate the fact that we have made history by electing our FIRST WOMAN as Vice President.

I must also thank my very loyal and dedicated staff, who have been with me over the last eight years in opposition, for the sacrifice and hard work they have put into this endeavour.

To my campaign team members and the countless volunteers who spent uncountable hours, day, and night, working to secure victory, I cannot thank you enough.

To the Council of Elders, the gallant leadership of the National Democratic Congress led by Chairman Johnson Asiedu NkeDa, and our general membership, I am deeply grateful for your dedication and commitment to this cause and your willingness to give everything to ensure success in this election.

To all the religious leaders who prayed for me, to all the Civil Society organisations, and professional groups we consulted in building our message, to all the traditional leaders who warmly welcomed me to your palaces during the campaign, our security officers across the country, the media, and EC staff; to you all I say a big thank you.

For all its historic undertones, this mandate represents many things for all political actors and those who seek to lead our country.

It shows that the Ghanaian people have little tolerance for bad governance, particularly of the sort witnessed in the last eight years, and that they are willing to take decisive action at critical moments when it matters most.

These eight years have witnessed some of the darkest periods of governance. The crises our beloved country has been through these last several years have lea a scar on our national psyche which may take some time to erase.

This mandate also serves as a constant reminder of what fate awaits us if we fail to meet the aspirations of our people and govern with arrogance.

My brothers and sisters, there is much to do to salvage our country and reset it.

It would have to start with a reset of the relationship between citizens and elected officials. We must never forget that the people of Ghana have chosen us to represent their wishes and best interests.

It is the reason we would be initiating important governance reforms and sometimes initiating severe measures in the next four years to reset our nation and bring it back on track as the black star of Africa.

The journey will not be smooth because the outgoing government has

plunged our dear nation into an abyss. However, we are determined to work together with you to build the Ghana we want. We know we shall win!

We intend to work to restore the shattered confidence in our politics and governance arrangements.

This election and its outcome represent an opportunity for a new beginning and as we begin to write this new chapter of our collective story, we need to consciously set the tone for the new direction in which we will be travelling.

“My Brothers and Sisters”

I want those words to be a reminder to all of you – a reminder to me – and to every individual who has just been elected or re-elected that no matter what office you hold, no matter what your political affiliaDon is or has been in the past, the one thing we share in common is this nation.

It is that WE WANT a much better Ghana.

WE WANT a Ghana that works for everybody, not just a few.

WE WANT a Ghana that considers the well-being of all her citizens and affords them each the ability to live a life of dignity, a life of limitless opportunities.

My Brothers and Sisters,

From the kayayei to the managing directors, to the market women, the bankers, the teachers, security personnel, nurses and doctors, the pastors and drivers, tailors, and seamstresses – we are ALL essential to the functioning and forward motion of this country.

We, the PEOPLE of this soil—sons and daughters, brothers and sisters— are, in fact, the GREATEST resource that Ghana has. This country, this land, is not for one person, for one family, for one tribe or ethnic group.

This country, this beautiful, resilient, and resource-rich country that we so love, Ghana, is for all of us.

This is our home. But it is not enough to be born here and to die here. We must also be able to LIVE here with saDsfacDon.

We must be able to love, dream, laugh, eat, dance, drum and share all aspects of the culture that was handed down to us.

And to do that, we must create sustainable and well-paying jobs through the 24-hour economy initiative. Our most basic needs must be met—affordable housing and healthcare, food and clean water, safe work, and fair wages.

My Brothers and Sisters, it is with tremendous humility that I accept this clear mandate that you, the good people of Ghana, have given me to lead this great nation as your next President.

Every vote that was cast in this election carried the same WEIGHT. Every vote also carried a HOPE for the future of our country.

I promise you that I will assemble and lead a government that will carry the WEIGHT of those HOPES and dreams, whether you voted for me or not because every victory is a victory for the people—ALL of the people.

Each Dme we have FREE and FAIR elections, and then conduct a smooth transfer of power, it reaffirms that our history of leadership and trailblazing was NOT an aberration.

It is NOT by accident that we were the first nation in Black Africa to win our independence from colonial rule.

It is NOT by accident that the first Black person to serve as the UN Secretary-General, the late Kofi Annan, was a Ghanaian.

It is NOT by accident that so many Ghanaians are out in the world blazing new trails and being recognized as leaders in their industries.

Despite being a relatively small nation, Ghana has been and continues to be a MIGHTY force on the world stage.

We are a PROUD people, and we have EVERY reason to be.

When GHANA rises, we all STAND tall and RISE with her. Africa rises!

Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank you, the good people of Ghana, once more.

I know that many of you are feeling frustration and anger, but I ask you today, please do NOT give in to negativity and pessimism.

There have been reports of acts of vandalism at some government facilities and installations. I urge you not to vent your frustration in a criminal enterprise, we must channel your anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding our beloved nation.

Let us maintain AND even MAGNIFY this joy and positivity we feel. We have arrived at THIS moment because so many of you believed that CHANGE was possible.

And now we KNOW that not only is CHANGE possible, but it is also ALREADY in process.

Let us continue to believe that we are ALREADY moving toward the Ghana we want, the Ghana of our hopes and dreams.

And IN this Ghana, where we have turned a NEW chapter and are setting a NEW tone, our BEST days are NOT behind us.

My Brothers and Sisters,

Our BEST days are AHEAD of us.

Forward ever!

May God bless you, and may God continue to bless our homeland Ghana.

Don’t sign contracts that will burden the Mahama gov’t – Omane Boamah to Akufo-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/dont-sign-contracts-that-will-burden-the-mahama-govt-omane-boamah-to-akufo-addo/ Mon, 09 Dec 2024 20:47:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481757 The incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has cautioned the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government against signing last-minute contracts or making financial commitments that could bind the incoming government of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

In an interview after the Electoral Commission declared Mr Mahama the winner of the 2024 general elections, Dr Boamah called on financial institutions to exercise caution, urging them not to honour any obligations or transactions initiated by the outgoing government that could place undue pressure on the incoming administration.

“This outcome, with over a 1 million vote gap, is a clear repudiation of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government. We expect them to finalize their handover notes if they haven’t done so already. This is a transition period, not a time for unnecessary expenditures or binding contracts for the Mahama and Prof Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang government,” he indicated.

Mr Boamah also stressed the need to adhere to the principles of a peaceful and transparent transition.

According to him, this period, designated for the finalization of handover notes and the smooth transfer of power, should not be used to incur expenditures or obligations that might constrain the new administration.

Touching on the party’s commitment to accountability, the NDC reminded the outgoing government of its obligation to account for its stewardship over the past eight years.

“We all stayed in this country and accounted for our stewardship when the tables turned. We expect the same from the outgoing administration. ‘Operation Recover All Loots’ will not be a mirage; it will be a reality,” he said.

In this regard, the former National Democracy Congress(NDC) Deputy General Secretary has said he will not be worried if he doesn’t land any appointment.

However, he added he has a cordial relationship with Mr Mahama and will in the coming days go to his house to congratulate him.

Mahama has better plans for Ghana’s progress – Professional Women for JM https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-has-better-plans-for-ghanas-progress-professional-women-for-jm/ Fri, 06 Dec 2024 15:04:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2480203 The President of Professional Women for JM (PW4JM), Ofeibea Ramatu has expressed her strong belief that the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has better plans for Ghana’s progress.

According to her, the current government has failed Ghanaians, and it is time to allow Mahama and the NDC to come into power to lift Ghana and develop the country more effectively.

“Former President Mahama started building educational infrastructure like the E-Block, and he needs another chance to do more because there is hardship in the country,”
She stated.

Ramatu emphasized that if the NDC comes to power, corruption will be significantly tackled because it is costing the country a lot of money.

Ahead of the December 7 election, she further called on Zongo communities to vote massively for the NDC.

She addressed the misconception that Zongo communities always disturb peace during elections, urging that such behaviour should not be encouraged.

“This is not just about politics; it’s about ensuring a better future for all Ghanaians,” she added.

Ramatu also refuted claims that the NDC would cancel the free SHS policy if elected.
“It is not true. The NDC and John Dramani Mahama will rather improve it because they prioritize education,” she said.

Mahama determined to rebuild Ghana – Goosie Tanoh https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-determined-to-rebuild-ghana-goosie-tanoh/ Fri, 06 Dec 2024 13:34:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2480183 The Chairman of the Employment and Job Creation Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto team, Goosie Tanoh, says the flagbearer, John Mahama, is determined to rebuild the country following what he described as the failure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to do so.

He said, “John is determined to rebuild this country with your help, with your support, with your energy, as he has announced the 24-hour economy plan to reconstruct our country.”

In his final campaign message, issued just 24 hours before Saturday’s polls, Mr Tanoh claimed that the Nana Addo-led government had denied the masses the opportunity for employment, making life difficult for many ordinary Ghanaians, who form the majority of the nation’s population.

He claimed that the eight years of the NPP government had resulted in an “insensitive government, one that has made corruption the order of the day, and a government that has put most Ghanaians into poverty.”

Supporting his claims with statistics, he said, “In 2022 alone, 825,000 Ghanaians fell into poverty. As I speak to you now, 41% of Ghanaians are described as multidimensionally poor.”

He added, “The unemployment rate is 14.7%, double what the current NPP administration inherited. There are 2.1 million unemployed people, most of whom are women and young people in the prime of their lives, who should be working, taking care of themselves, and building families. Instead, they are at home, with nothing to do.”

The NDC founding member went on to say that deprived Ghanaians want a change, and that change is the NDC and John Mahama. He also stated that John Mahama represents “empathy and sensitivity, in contrast to the arrogance we have seen over the last eight years.”

He emphasised that Mr Mahama is the only one who can make Ghana “what it should be, able to feed all its people, house all its people, educate all its people, and ensure that all its people are healthy.”

The NDC on Thursday, December 5, concluded its 2024 campaign activities in Madina, Accra, where the party and Mr Mahama made their final appeal to Ghanaians to vote for the NDC in Saturday’s polls to bring them back to power.

This is why I am committed to waging a relentless war on corruption. Operation Return All Loot (ORAL) will be implemented with dedicated zeal to retrieve stolen loot for the country’s development and the benefit of our youth.

I will fight corruption to restore integrity and fairness, two critical ingredients missing from our governance.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why I am committed to empowering women and ensuring they are no longer treated as second-class citizens.

The stature of my able vice presidential candidate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and the plan to set up a Women’s Development Bank to support the establishment of more women-owned businesses and our traders, from tabletop to large-scale businesses are practical demonstrations of that commitment.

My fellow Ghanaians, I cannot do this alone. Your vote is your voice, your vote is your power, and your vote is the key to unlocking a better future for Ghana.

I urge you to take action on Saturday. This is not a decision for another time, another election, or another generation.

This is our moment, and the time is now to bring about the CHANGE we need to reset Ghana.

We need to reset our democracy, governance, economy, finances, agriculture, infrastructure, environment, health sector, and all that we hold dear as a people.

The vision to build the Ghana we want is a collective responsibility. Let us vote on Saturday to reject despair and choose hope.

Vote to reject impunity and choose respect. Choose hardworking, experienced, and trustworthy leadership.

My comrades, Ghanaians will hold us to a higher standard than they have held the NPP.

I want to remind you once again, that there is no use fighting for political power if we would come and commit the same atrocities they have inflicted on the people of Ghana these last 8 years.

Ghanaians will put their trust in us, but we must prove ourselves worthy of that trust.

The change starts with you! And I promise you, we will work together.

December 7 is just two days away. I encourage you to vote John Mahama, and I will make you all proud of the Ghana we will build together.

We will be doing this for ourselves, our children, and generations to come.

Ladies and gentlemen, vote wisely. I want to caution the government, the military in particular, and the entire security system to resist the nefarious actions they are planning.

To the people of Ghana, the National Democratic Congress will go to the polling stations with you. Together, we will police and courageously protect our votes and resist all attempts to steal them.

I wish you all safe journey.

Misleading, John Mahama did not say his government would plant grasses across Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/misleading-john-mahama-did-not-say-his-government-would-plant-grasses-across-ghana/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 11:54:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2479547 Claim: An X user, Gen. Buhari, has posted a video claiming that John Mahama said, “The NDC government will plant grasses across the country so that cows can also get food to eat.”

Verdict: Misleading.Even though John Mahama mentioned planting for cows and sheep, he did not mention that it would be across the countryRather, he specifically referred to Afram Plains. His statement has been taken out of context.

Full Text

An X user, Gen. Buhari, posted a short video of part of John Mahama’s interaction with the people of Afram Plains with the caption,

“The NDC govt will plant grasses across the country so that cows can also get food to eat– John Mahama Eiiii” The post, made on X on November 22, has received 52,700 views, over 600 likes, close to 100 reposts, and 100 quotes.

The video Gen. Buhari posted was taken from the TikTok page of Nyamekye Yawson (@marbledj), which has over 104,100 views.

In the video, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress is heard saying  in the Twi language, “When the NDC comes, we will take good care of the place and grow plants that cows and sheep like to eat.”

Due to the post, users have chastised the former president for making such statements. A user commented on X,

“You’ve been in opposition for 8 years and want to gain power but see the nonsense you are saying. What a shame.”

These comments, fuelled by Gen Buhari’s caption that Mahama’s statement was about the whole of Ghana, show that people bought into the post. As a result, DUBAWA decided to verify if the statement was made by the NDC flag bearer.

Verification

Seeing the UTV logo and “live” watermarked on the video, DUBAWA surfed the official YouTube page of UTV and found that the video was from a live telecast of Prime Time News on UTV on Thursday, November 21st.

The total news telecast was 59 minutes and 54 seconds. However, the part that showed John Mahama’s interaction with the people of Afram Plains as part of his tour started at 10 minutes and 13 seconds of the video.

After listening to the full clip, which ended at 11 minutes and 54 seconds, DUBAWA realised that the short clip posted on X had been taken out of context.

Additionally, a closer look at the video published by the claimant showed that some parts of the clip were cut out and joined with others to make the statement sound like it was made about the whole of Ghana.

In the full clip, John Mahama said,

“At the time that Rawlings was there, we came to create a place for those who rear cows and animals to take their animals for feeding.

Since then, the government has not kept its eye on the place. When the NDC comes, we will take care of the place and refurbish it and plant the kinds of plants that cows and sheep like to eat.”

DUBAWA realised that he made this statement after promising to set up a cattle ranch where grasses would be grown to feed the cattle to avoid quarrels between the herdsmen and farmers.

DUBAWA also found the original clip which was streamed on the Facebook page of Woezor TV.

The exact statement can be found from 40 minutes 30 seconds onwards.

DUBAWA’s assessment of the entire video revealed that Mr Mahama’s pledge was solely focused on the people of Afram Plains and not the whole of Ghana. His statement has been taken out of context.

Conclusion

The claim that John Mahama said that the NDC government would plant grasses across the country so that cows can also get food to eat is false. DUBAWA’s checks show that the video was taken out of context.

This report was produced under the DUBAWA “Combating Election Misinformation and Disinformation in Ghana’s 2024 Elections” Project aimed at promoting a culture of truth and verification ahead of the 2024 General Elections with support from the Federal Republic of Germany in Ghana.

What are you coming to do? Akufo-Addo asks Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/what-are-you-coming-to-do-akufo-addo-asks-mahama/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 08:04:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2479459 President Nana Akufu-Addo has questioned what former President John Mahama is coming back to do at the Jubilee House after being rejected by the people of Ghana in 2016 and 2020.

According to him, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) flagbearer suffered a humiliating defeat after Ghanaians tasted his bad governance ridden with erratic power supply.

‘All the leaders under the fourth Republic had the opportunity to serve a two-term in office as guaranteed by the constitution, with the exception of the late J.E.A Mills who was whisked away by death. Mr. John Dramani Mahama is the only president under the fourth Republic who has been rejected twice after serving his first term in office,” he remarked.

Akufo-Addo was speaking at a durbar organized in his honour by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in Kyebi as part of his ‘ Thank You Tour’ in the Eastern Region.

As the December 7 election draws nears, Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaian to reject Mahama again.

He stated that, Vice President and New Patriotic Party(NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is the best man to continue the numerous social intervention and projects undertaken by his administration.

‘On Saturday, I want you to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to protect and continue all the developmental projects I’ve started,” Akufo-Addo urged.

He added that Mahama has exhibited to the world that he doesn’t believe in all his policies including free SHS, the Agenda 111, the 1D1F project, and the numerous projects under his administration, hence a vote for him will jeopardize them.

‘Mahama doesn’t have a Policy, he goes about telling people that he is going to reset Ghana. Is reset a policy? He says 24 Hour Economy, anytime you ask for an explanation, he says 24 hour economy is voluntary. You couldn’t keep our lights on for 24 hours but you want to do a 24-hour economy? How ?” The president questioned.

He criticized those playing religious cards in this election, stating that, all Ghanaians, irrespective of his religious inclination have the same rights and privileges.

The Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin maintained that it takes only a visionary leader and a person who thinks about the unborn general to take the many decisions Nana Addo has taken in his government.

The Okyenhene hinted that, the Free SHS Policy is an initiative that will go into history as one of the good things that has ever happened to Ghana.

‘Today, many people may not see the impact of free SHS, but in the near future, we shall appreciate it. No child should be denied basic education irrespective of the financial standing of their parents or family,’ Osagyefuo he touted.

He added that, posterity will be the best judge.

Mahama promises to address galamsey and foster responsible mining https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-promises-to-address-galamsey-and-foster-responsible-mining/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 08:13:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478388 The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to introduce sustainable mining practices to tackle the environmental challenges caused by illegal mining activities.

He stated that, his administration would prioritise responsible mining to ensure the protection of natural resources while supporting the livelihoods of miners.

Addressing party supporters at Akrokkeri in the Fomena Constituency during his campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, Mr Mahama recognised the significance of small-scale mining to the local economy.

He noted that, while mining provides employment for many Ghanaians, its improper regulation has led to severe environmental degradation, including deforestation and water pollution.

Mr Mahama assured miners and communities that his government would implement robust policies to balance economic benefits with environmental preservation.

He emphasised that sustainable mining practices would not only protect the ecosystem but also enhance the long-term viability of the mining sector.

The former President reiterated his commitment to working closely with stakeholders to create a framework that promotes responsible mining and ensures that communities affected by mining activities reap significant benefits.

He urged all Ghanaians to support efforts aimed at restoring the environment and fostering a more sustainable future for the mining industry.

“I know that here in Adansi, you deeply value small-scale mining. The NDC will bring policies to support small-scale miners and ensure the land is preserved for future generations,” Mr Mahama stated.

I’m a retired army general ready to rescue Ghana from current difficulties – Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/im-a-retired-army-general-ready-to-rescue-ghana-from-current-difficulties-mahama/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 07:54:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478370 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has likened himself to a “retired army general” returning to service, as he campaigns for reelection in the upcoming general elections.

Speaking to District and Municipal Imams in the Ashanti Region on Monday, 2nd December 2024, Mr Mahama highlighted his determination to address Ghana’s pressing challenges.

During the engagement, which formed part of his six-day campaign tour, the former President criticised what he described as the current administration’s economic mismanagement and governance failures.

The former President assured the religious leaders of his readiness to provide effective leadership that would steer the nation towards recovery and progress.

Mr Mahama pledged to prioritise sound and pragmatic policies aimed at restoring stability and improving the living conditions of Ghanaians.

He emphasised his commitment to ensuring that the needs of all citizens, including marginalised communities, are addressed under his leadership.

Mr. Mahama also urged the Imams to support his vision for a better Ghana, stating that his experience and resolve position him as the best candidate to tackle the country’s challenges.

“If we go to war, and we encounter difficulties, we go back to call the retired general to come back and lead us.

“This is a clear illustration of myself because I am a retired general and I went to rest, but it is time to come back for we are in a difficult period, so my party has nominated me to lead the party.”

“I know that many of you pray for us and give us guidelines to follow. I thank every one of you for your prayers,” he said.

NDC has developed Zongo communities more than any political party – Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-has-developed-zongo-communities-more-than-any-political-party-mahama/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 18:22:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478210 National Democratic Congress(NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama has reiterated his dedication to improve infrastructure in the Zongo communities when elected President on December 7.

According to him, the NDC is a better manager and developer of the Zongo communities, a track record no political party can match and they remain committed.

The former President made the remarks when Muslim leaders in the Ashanti region held special prayers for him as part of his campaign tour.

The event was also used to discuss the development of their people and towns, plus the NDC’s vision or proposals moving into the elections.

John Mahama used the occasion to remind the gathering of key interventions his party has brought to their people.

Mr Mahama touched on medical scholarships which the Muslim communities benefited from under his watch, building of specialised schools and health facilities, improving hajj travels among others.

“During the tenure of late Prof Mills, I was in charge of a scholarship scheme to send 200 students to Cuba and out of that, 67 were from the Zongo communities; 26 were females and now, all these people are trained doctors.

“During my tenure as President, 400 people from the Zongo communities were also sent to Arabic countries to study,” he touted.

According to him, the notion that his party has done nothing for Zongo communities and Muslim should be discarded, urging them to know the truth.

“People were travelling to Accra before Hajj and were sleeping at the El-Wak Sports Satdium but we thought it wise to establish the Hajj Village which they now lodge before the trip,” he stated.

John Mahama further indicated that, the National Chiefs Imam’s manifesto he sent to the NDC has been captured in the party’s manifesto.

“In our 2024 manifesto, there has been proposal on 14 policies that can help the Zongo communities when the NDC comes into power. Before the Chief Imam brought it, 12 we were already in the manifesto

He assured them of his commitment to develop their areas if elected President.

2024 polls: Bawumia can take his family to sleep in Ashanti region; he’ll still lose – Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-bawumia-can-take-his-family-to-sleep-in-ashanti-region-hell-still-lose-mahama/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 13:47:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478037 The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence about his victory in the Ashanti region in the December 7 election.

According to him, the wind of change is blowing and no matter what his main contender, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia does, he will lose.

Addressing electorates, Mr Mahama declared that Dr Bawumia, is losing his sleep due to his presence in the Ashanti region, where he is currently campaigning.

Mahama questioned Bawumia’s return to the region with barely five days to the general election after already exhausting a 15-day campaign tour.

“All I would say is that he can bring his wife, the Second Lady, and all his children to come and sleep in the Ashanti Region. No matter what he does, when the time comes, the NDC will still win,” he declared.

He revealed that, his campaign team had to delay their activities in the region due to Bawumia’s prolonged stay to avoid potential conflicts.

“Our campaign team knew that the presence of both candidates in one region could create problems. So, we decided to wait for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to complete his campaign tour in the Ashanti Region. The moment he finished and left, we announced the date we would start ours. I just heard that he has run back here,” Mahama remarked.

As part of the campaign the NDC led by John Mahama and some parliamentary candidates, embarked on a mammoth walk dubbed Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni to remind residents about the NPP’s neglect despite their constant support.

Mahama said the frequent visit of the Vice president sends a signal that the NPP has taken the people there for granted.

John Mahama believes that posture will rather give the NDC more votes in the region, hence Bawumia should stop wasting his time and energy.

Mahama bemoans economic struggles in Ashanti Region https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-bemoans-economic-struggles-in-ashanti-region/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 12:04:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2478023

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has expressed deep concern over the worsening state of businesses in Ghana, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

According to the former President, the Ashanti region has lost its title as the “heart of business” in the country.

Speaking at a campaign rally ahead of the December 7 election, Mr Mahama attributed the challenges to poor governance by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He lamented the cost of doing business is now high due taxes, increased port duties, and the cedi depreciation.

Mahama emphasized the strategic importance of the Ashanti Region to Ghana’s economy, noting that it has long been a critical center for business owners, traders, factory operators, and repairers.

“When it comes to economic activity, the Ashanti Region stands out as a vital hub in Ghana. If you remove Ashanti from the equation, it becomes difficult to find another area with such concentrated economic activity.

“However, whenever there is an economic downturn or financial instability in Ghana, it is most severely felt here in the Ashanti Region,” he said.

Mahama recounted several promises made by the NPP, particularly Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s pledge to move Ghana’s economy from “taxation to production.”

This promise he stated has not materialised within eight years of their governance as the plight of business owners worsen.

“The promise to shift from taxation to production has proven to be empty rhetoric. In reality, taxes have skyrocketed, leading to the collapse of many businesses that could have created jobs, especially for the youth,” Mahama stated.

He pointed out that the tax hikes have forced some traders to find alternative means of importing goods, including bypassing the Tema port and using the Lomé port in neighbouring Togo to avoid the high port duties.

Mahama highlighted the severe impact of the current economic climate on key sectors, notably microfinance and banking.

He lamented the closure of 200 microfinance institutions, which has left many employees without work.

“Former employees of these institutions are now turning to alternative jobs like driving for ride-hailing services or baking bread to survive.

Similarly, he noted the collapse of 11 banks in the country, resulting in the loss of over 1,000 jobs.

“The banking sector has also been severely hit, with many banks folding, leading to thousands of workers losing their livelihoods,” Mahama added.

Dr Otokunor writes: Mahama’s Agro Economic Transformation through a 24-Hour Economy  https://www.adomonline.com/dr-otokunor-writes-mahamas-agro-economic-transformation-through-a-24-hour-economy/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 11:33:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477996 Agriculture is not just a sector—it is the heartbeat of Ghana’s economy, a living testament to the grit and determination of a people who rise with the sun to feed a nation.

From the fields of cassava and cocoa to the shores of fishing communities, agriculture employs nearly half of the population, feeds millions, and contributes roughly 20% to the nation’s GDP.

Yet, despite its centrality to Ghana’s economic and cultural identity, the full potential of agriculture remains untapped, locked behind a government that prioritizes kickbacks, and enjoys self-gratification and raw material exports over value addition.

The question is no longer why we fall short of producing the food we eat but how long will we tolerate lazy leaders who refuse to unlock the transformative power of agriculture.

To imagine a Ghana that processes its cocoa cans its pineapples, processes it yam, and freezes its cassava is not idealism—it is a moral and economic necessity.

As we discuss agriculture’s role in a 24-hour economy, we must dispel the myths and
misconceptions surrounding it.

No, it does not mean farmers toiling in their fields day and night – these are the concoctions of mischief.

It means a system where agriculture operates as a seamless cycle—planting, harvesting, processing, and exporting value-added products—around the clock.

This vision transforms farming into the foundation of a thriving agribusiness ecosystem, with agro-processing and manufacturing working tirelessly to turn raw produce into
goods that create jobs, increase incomes, and strengthen Ghana’s global competitiveness.

For too long, Ghana has been content with exporting its raw materials while other nations reap the benefits of processing them.

Take cocoa, for example when Ghana was the world’s second-largest producer of cocoa beans, it processed less than 30% of its yield.

Compare this to Malaysia, which imports cocoa beans from countries like Ghana and processes over 90% of its stock into chocolates, cocoa butter, and other high-value products.

The difference is staggering: while a ton of raw cocoa according to the International Cocoa Organisation fetches approximately $7,138.00 as of November 28, 2024, on the global market, the same amount of processed chocolate products can sell for up to $35,000.

Similarly, Ghana’s vast output of cashew nuts, shea butter, and oil palm often leaves the
country in raw form, forfeiting billions in potential revenue.

Contrast this with Vietnam, a country that shifted from being a raw agricultural exporter to the world’s largest cashew processor.

Vietnam turned its agricultural sector into a $3 billion yearly export industry by making significant investments in processing factories and establishing laws to assist smallholder farmers.

Ghana has the resources to achieve similar success, but it has failed to prioritize agro-
processing.

The NPP government, despite its lofty rhetoric, has done next to nothing or very little to create an enabling environment for value addition.

The much-touted “One District, One Factory” initiative promised to establish processing plants across the country, but many of these projects were non-existent, the few that started have either stalled or failed to materialize.

According to the Ghana Statistical Service, manufacturing’s contribution to GDP decreased to 4716.90 GHS Million in the second quarter of 2024 from 6191.70 GHS Million in the first quarter of 2024 with agro-processing accounting for only a fraction.

The concept of a 24-hour agricultural economy envisions more than just farmers producing raw crops.

It is a cycle in which cottage to medium and large scale processing plants are constructed
in carefully designed Agro-industrial enclaves that operate around the clock, supported by
economic incentives, technical support, efficient logistics, supply chain development
programmes, cold storage facilities, and export channels.

This will generate in its wake a large demand for agricultural output as raw materials, which drive further the demand for the agricultural products and for that matter huge investments and market opportunities for smallholder and large-scale commercial farmers.

Picture this: farmers produce output for a guaranteed market by the agro-industries and deliver fresh produce to nearby factories at any time of the day.

These agro-processing factories produce round-the-clock churning out processed goods—shea butter lotions, chocolate bars, canned pineapple juice, frozen cassava
flour—destined for local and international markets.

This is certainly not the absurd scenario of farmers working 24 hours as portrayed by the
clueless NPP government and their functionaries, but rather a call for creating a strong value chain, incentivizing agro-processors to scale up operations and ensuring that no harvest goes to waste.

It is about maximizing the potential of agricultural produce to create sustainable well paid
jobs as farmers, factory workers, technicians, and logistics managers.

It is about ensuring that farming communities benefit not just from selling raw goods but from the profits of processed exports.

Unfortunately, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government has repeatedly fumbled
opportunities to build such a system.

Under their leadership, the agricultural sector has been poorly managed. Key policies have been unsuccessful in improving crop and livestock productivity while little or no effort has been made to target the downstream processes of processing and marketing.

Worse still, corruption and inefficiencies have drained resources from initiatives meant to help farmers.

For example, the failure to implement an efficient input support programme has led to low crop yields, high food prices, and a worsening food security situation.

The inability of government to establish functioning storage facilities across agro-zones has heightened post-harvest losses leading to about 30% losses of perishable produce, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Meanwhile, bad road networks, poor transportation services, and poorly maintained intercity road networks leave farmers at the mercy of a few cheating aggregators,
due to the farmers’ inability to transport agro-produce to the markets or processing hubs in time, thus deepening rural poverty.

Ghana must take a page from countries like Brazil, which transformed its agricultural sector by investing in agribusiness, research, and export diversification.

Brazil’s agro-industrial sector operates as a 24-hour economy, turning sugarcane into ethanol and soybeans into animal feed, all while creating millions of jobs.

To replicate such success, Ghana must focus on:
* Productivity Improvements:
The John Mahama/NDC government proposes Farmer Services Centers and the Farmland
Banks as one-stop shop input support programmes to accelerate farmer productivity and
significantly cut down production costs.

* Policy Support for Agro-Processing:
The incentives regime of the 24-hour economy and the Agro-industrial enclave programmes will tax incentives, credit support, and other social service incentives to encourage the establishment of processing plants in agricultural zones, especially in rural areas.

* Infrastructure Development:
Invest heavily in the expansion, rehabilitation, and construction of robust irrigation facilities, storage facilities, silos, cold storage facilities, reliable road networks, and reliable water and power supply sources to facilitate 24-hour operations.

* Training and Technology:
Equip farmers and processors with modern techniques and machinery to enhance efficiency
and productivity. As well as introduce advanced agro-mechanization technologies to
modernize our agriculture.

* Public-Private Partnerships:
The NDC shall pass a Farmer Cooperatives Bill and collaborate with the private sector to scale up investments in agriculture, agribusiness, and agro-processing.

* Export Diversification:
Through an Accelerated Export Council to be chaired by President Mahama himself, NDC
government shall invest in branding Ghana’s processed goods for international markets, moving beyond raw cocoa and cashews to finished products that command higher prices.

As the elections approach, let us remember that change is not just a ballot box decision; it has become a moral imperative.

Ghana needs leaders who understand the full value chain of agriculture, who can envision a 24-hour economy that empowers farmers and processors alike, and who will finally prioritize value addition over raw exports.

The road ahead may be long, but with the right leadership, brighter days lie ahead.

The time for change is now. Let us rise to the occasion.

Mahama promises to enhance trade and business growth in Ashanti Region https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-promises-to-enhance-trade-and-business-growth-in-ashanti-region/ Mon, 02 Dec 2024 09:53:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477938 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has reiterated his determination to revitalise trade and business activities in the Ashanti Region, pledging tailored interventions to benefit local traders and entrepreneurs.

Speaking during the “Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni” walk held in Kumasi on Sunday, 1st December, Mahama unveiled plans to implement a fixed exchange rate scheme.

This initiative, he explained, would help stabilise the cedi against the dollar, thereby creating a more predictable and supportive environment for business operations within the region.

Mr. Mahama acknowledged the Ashanti Region’s significance, noting that while it is often regarded as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), it remains a critical battleground for both major political parties.

He vowed that the NDC would intensify its efforts to win substantial support in the area during the upcoming elections.

Outlining his vision for economic empowerment, Mahama proposed the introduction of five specialised banks to assist importers with port clearance procedures.

“These banks will offer a system where traders can secure funding for their goods. The banks will cover the costs, temporarily hold the containers, and allow traders to pay in manageable instalments before collecting their goods,” he explained.

He further elaborated on his plans to stabilise the currency for importers, promising to introduce mechanisms to mitigate the impact of fluctuating exchange rates.

He added that the NDC’s policies would prioritise the Ashanti Region’s economic growth, ensuring access to jobs, resources, and infrastructure necessary to support local businesses.

Highlighting the contributions of the Ashanti Region to the NDC’s past successes, Mahama reaffirmed his party’s commitment to addressing the region’s needs.

“The Ashanti Region is not merely a stronghold for any one party; it is a vital part of Ghana’s economy. We are determined to deliver the opportunities and development it deserves,” he concluded.

Kodwo Mensah Aboroampa Writes: Bawumia, Mahama, talk to your supporters https://www.adomonline.com/kodwo-mensah-aboroampa-writes-bawumia-mahama-talk-to-your-supporters/ Fri, 29 Nov 2024 11:11:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477260 In a crucial moment for Ghana’s political landscape, the flagbearers of the two major political parties, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have signed a historic agreement aimed at fostering peaceful and fair elections.

As the nation watches closely, the leaders now face the critical task of speaking directly to their supporters, urging them to uphold the spirit of unity, peace, and democracy.

The signing of the pact marks a significant milestone in the lead-up to the upcoming elections. It is a testament to the commitment of both parties to ensuring that the electoral process remains free from violence, intimidation, and divisiveness.

However, with tensions often running high during election seasons, it is crucial for both Mr. Mahama and Dr. Bawumia to leverage their influence and guide their supporters toward peaceful, democratic engagement.

As key figures in Ghana’s political sphere, Mr. Mahama and Dr. Bawumia are not just symbols of their respective parties; they are also leaders who wield the power to shape the tone and direction of political discourse across the country.

With the recent signing of the pact, they are now tasked with ensuring that their supporters—many of whom are passionate and sometimes polarized—remain focused on the ideals of democracy and peaceful coexistence.

In the heat of election season, it is easy for rhetoric to escalate and emotions to run high. Both leaders understand that their words and actions can significantly influence the behavior of their supporters on the ground.

This is why their statements and engagements with the public are critical in setting the stage for an election that is fair, transparent, and free of violence.

In the past, Ghana has been hailed as one of the most stable democracies in West Africa, with its peaceful transitions of power serving as an example for many other nations in the region.

But this peaceful record must not be taken for granted. The world is watching, and it is incumbent upon both Mahama and Bawumia to remind their followers of the importance of protecting the integrity of the election process.

As Ghana prepares for the elections, the choices made by Mahama and Bawumia in the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the country’s political climate.

If both leaders use their platforms to advocate for peace and unity, they will have the power to guide the nation through a smooth election period.

However, if their messages are divisive or inflammatory, it could ignite tensions that threaten the peaceful coexistence that Ghana has worked so hard to achieve.

The signing of the pact is just the first step in a larger journey toward ensuring the country remains united in the face of political differences. Now that the pact has been signed, it is time for both Mahama and Bawumia to walk the talk.

The country eagerly awaits their next steps, which must include powerful, peace-driven messages to their supporters.

Both leaders have a shared responsibility to ensure that Ghana’s democracy remains resilient and the will of the people is respected in a peaceful, fair, and transparent election.

As the political climate heats up, Mahama and Bawumia must rise to the occasion, not just as party flagbearers, but as statesmen who are committed to the greater good of the nation.

It is their time to lead by example, promoting the ideals of democracy, peace, and unity that will continue to define Ghana’s political identity on the African continent.

The nation watches. The world is listening. The time for action is now.

2024 Election: NDC Central Region promises Mahama 56% of votes [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-ndc-central-region-promises-mahama-56-of-votes-audio/ Thu, 28 Nov 2024 13:22:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2476916 The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has indicated that the region will play a significant role in the victory of the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama, in the 2024 election.

He stated that the region would deliver the widest margin, promising 56% of the total votes for Mr. Mahama on December 7.

Prof. Asiedu made these remarks on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, as political parties wrap up their campaign activities with just nine days remaining until the highly anticipated election.

In the 2020 election, the NDC secured 45% of the votes in the presidential race.

However, Prof. Asiedu has expressed that feedback from their campaign shows how galvanized their base is, and he is confident that this momentum will be replicated nationwide.

“We will definitely secure the 56% of the votes. The confidence is not because of how poorly the NPP has performed, but because we have put in place all the necessary ingredients, and we know they will bear fruit. Voter education has gone down well,” he stated.

He added that there is peace, happiness, and the NDC is now very attractive in the Central Region due to his leadership skills.

2024 Elections: PNC declares support for Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/2024-elections-pnc-declares-support-for-mahama/ Wed, 27 Nov 2024 15:21:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2476493 The People’s National Convention (PNC) has declared its support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December 7 election.

The decision follows a National Executive meeting held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

The PNC Chairman, Samson Asaki Awingobit, announced the development at a press conference on Wednesday.

“Nine days to the general elections, the PNC cannot remain neutral. We had 15 regional representatives for our NEC meeting today.

“At the end of deliberations, we collectively and by majority declare that the PNC will throw its support behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate for the 2024 general elections,” Mr. Awingobit announced.

The PNC’s move follows the disqualification of its Presidential Candidate, Bernard Mornah.

Mr. Mornah and 10 other candidates were disqualified from the presidential race after the EC discovered errors during a thorough vetting of their nomination forms.

Dissatisfied with this action, Mr. Mornah filed a lawsuit against the EC, alleging that his constitutional rights were violated by not being given the opportunity to correct the errors.

NPP can call Mahama anything, but not a liar – Beatrice Annan [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/npp-can-call-mahama-anything-but-not-a-liar-beatrice-annan-audio/ Wed, 27 Nov 2024 10:07:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2476304 The Deputy Spokesperson for the John Mahama campaign, Beatrice Annan, has touted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer as trustworthy.

According to her, political opponents, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite their name-calling spree, can never tag Mr. Mahama as a liar.

She made these remarks on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem as she declared the commitment of the NDC leader to continue all projects of his predecessor when elected on December 7.

With 10 days to the general election, Madam Annan expressed confidence that Mahama was the best choice for Ghanaians, given the economic hardship under the NPP government.

“We can’t repeat the same things that have destroyed our country. So, what Mahama is saying is that he will continue all projects under this government.”

“The good thing about voting for the former President is that he has led Ghana before. They can say all sorts of things about him, but they can definitely not call him a liar. Nobody has ever, and can never, call him that,” she stated.

Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s gov’t favours slogans over substance – Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/akufo-addo-and-bawumias-govt-favours-slogans-over-substance-mahama/ Wed, 27 Nov 2024 08:17:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2476184 The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticised the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for what he describes as its failure to address pressing challenges facing Ghanaians.

He accused the government of prioritising catchy slogans over substantive measures to improve the lives of citizens.

In a Facebook post on 25th November, Mr. Mahama expressed concern about the neglect of farmers, who he believes are pivotal to Ghana’s economic stability.

He stressed the struggles faced by agricultural workers, particularly the lack of adequate support and resources, which have hindered their productivity and growth.

The NDC flagbearer assured Ghanaians that under his leadership, farmers would receive the attention and assistance they deserve.

He pledged to implement policies aimed at empowering the agricultural sector and ensuring that farmers benefit from sustainable development initiatives when elected in the 2024 general elections.

Mr. Mahama reiterated his commitment to prioritizing policies that directly address the challenges faced by ordinary Ghanaians, particularly those in underserved sectors such as agriculture.

“Over the last 8 years, this Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government has prioritized slogans over action. They have forgotten about our farmers. The NDC will deliver.”

Mahama refutes claims that newly recruited security service personnel will be sacked https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-refutes-claims-that-newly-recruited-security-service-personnel-will-be-sacked/ Tue, 26 Nov 2024 14:38:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2475881 National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama has refuted claims that he will sack individuals currently undergoing training with the various security services.

According to him, his opponents are spreading falsehoods in most of the training depots, claiming that he will review their recruitment if he wins the December elections.

However, Mahama urged such officers to embrace and accept his resetting agenda, which will improve their lives.

Mahama gave this assurance as part of his Western Regional tour, emphasizing that their jobs will be secured.

The NDC leader and his team received a rousing reception in Shama, where many of the constituents may be interested in the security service recruitment.

It is against this background that John Mahama clarified the issues surrounding new recruits, describing the claims as false.

Mahama argued that the police, military, and other security agencies are all feeling the pinch of economic hardship, and therefore, they should not follow propaganda by politicians in making their decisions.

“There are people undergoing training at some police depots, and the NPP is claiming that we will sack them, but this is not true. They sacked some people we recruited before leaving office and think we will do the same, but we are nothing like them,” he said.

“It is mere propaganda. Every job will be secured, and many more people will be recruited to increase the labor force,” Mahama added.

2024 Election: Mahama calls for removal of politically affiliated polling officials https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-mahama-calls-for-removal-of-politically-affiliated-polling-officials/ Tue, 26 Nov 2024 12:38:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2475858 The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, is calling for the removal of individuals identified as politically affiliated from polling station roles within the Electoral Commission (EC).

With 11 days remaining until the December 7 election, Mr. Mahama has raised concerns that the involvement of such persons could disrupt and undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

Mahama was speaking to constituents in Sekondi as part of his campaign tour in the Western Region.

He used the opportunity to respond to an alleged audio recording of individuals plotting to rig the elections in Gomoa East.

The NDC flagbearer urged the EC to ensure all stakeholders are comfortable going into the elections.

“I have seen a video from Gomoa East alleging that an NPP MP and members brought a list of 65 people to be included in the election. So if this turns out to be true, how credible will the election be?” he questioned.

“I expect that if the EC detects these 65 people, they must immediately remove their names. We need to be vigilant going into the election because there could be collusion between the NPP and the EC, such that your vote could be tampered with,” he said.

Akwatia chief predicts Mahama’s return to power will mirror Donald Trump’s comeback https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-chief-predicts-mahamas-return-to-power-will-mirror-donald-trumps-comeback/ Thu, 14 Nov 2024 17:43:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2472029 The Ankobeahene of Akyem-Boadua in the Akwatia constituency, Nana Barfuor Annor, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to intensify their efforts to ensure that John Dramani Mahama returns as the President of Ghana.

He likened Mahama’s potential comeback to that of former US President Donald Trump, emphasising that the party must engage at the grassroots level and campaign vigorously.

Nana Barfuor Annor expressed confidence that President Mahama would secure a significant victory, but he cautioned the NDC against complacency. He noted, “The recent American election situation is similar to that of Mahama.

Before the American election, they said it was too close to call, but at the end, it was 226 against 312—a very wide margin, all due to hard work. So today, if we are praying for Mahama to come to power, we plead with the leaders of his campaign to work hard to bring Mahama back.”

The Ankobeahene also called on residents of Boadua to rally behind John Mahama, urging them to support and vote for his return to power to continue the various developmental projects and policies he initiated before his defeat in 2016. He highlighted Mahama’s qualities, saying,

“The reason why I like the man [Mahama] is his resilience, courage, and perseverance. He never gets discouraged. He could have been resting after losing the elections, but for the love of Ghana, he is seeking re-election. I urge the people of Boadua to support and vote for Mahama.”

The Chief’s comments were made during a campaign rally attended by the Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who is currently on a five-day tour of the Eastern Region.

Addressing the crowd, Dr Omane Boamah stated that John Dramani Mahama is poised to win the December 7 election, with plans to implement policies such as a 24-hour economy, a youth apprenticeship programme, stress-free admissions into tertiary institutions, and resetting the country to boost economic growth and prosperity for all.

He also criticised the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia-led government for neglecting roads in the area, allowing them to deteriorate.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Henry Boakye Yiadom, provided an overview of his achievements in the fields of health, education, employment, youth engagement, and community development, seeking support for his re-election.

Election 2024: We’re winning one touch at the polling station, we won’t go to court – Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/election-2024-were-winning-one-touch-at-the-polling-station-we-wont-go-to-court-mahama/ Wed, 13 Nov 2024 10:43:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2471434 The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on Ghanaians to vote overwhelmingly for the NDC in the upcoming elections to secure a decisive victory.

He urged supporters to turn out in large numbers to ensure a resounding win for the party, highlighting the importance of a strong mandate to bring about the changes they seek for the nation.

Mahama emphasised the need for vigilance at every stage of the electoral process to safeguard the integrity of the vote.

He stated that all Ghanaians, especially NDC supporters, must remain alert and play an active role in protecting their ballots from any potential interference. This, he suggested, is crucial to achieving a fair and accurate outcome.

The former President likened the NDC’s ongoing campaign to a “communal labour,” underscoring the collective effort required to secure victory.

According to him, the campaign is a nationwide project that demands the participation and dedication of every supporter, reflecting a shared mission to “rescue” the country from its current challenges.

In his remarks, Mahama expressed doubt about the judiciary’s impartiality in the unlikely event that the election results are disputed in court.

He suggested that the NDC may not receive a fair hearing if they were to challenge the outcome, adding a sense of urgency to his call for vigilance and the need for a clear and unquestionable victory.

He concluded by encouraging party members and supporters to stay focused, united, and determined in the final stretch of the campaign.

Mahama reiterated that the NDC’s success hinges not only on a strong electoral showing, but also on the unwavering commitment of its supporters to safeguard their votes and ensure a transparent and credible election process.

“We have to win with a huge margin so that they will not think of going to court. Because they have parked the courts with their people, and we will not get justice.”

“This election, we are winning one touch at the polling station. We are not going to court,” he said.

The donation was met with appreciation and serves as a testament to the private sector’s involvement in shaping the future of the nation.
