‘Mentally challenged’ woman stabs 32-year-old son to death

A 52-year-old woman believed to be mentally challenged has stabbed her 32-year son to death at Kuli near Dzodze in the Volta Region.
The suspect, Gladys Kporkporvi Tegah, was said to be home fetching water from a well, when her son [the deceased] came in with a nurse to give her mother a monthly prescribed medication.
Upon seeing Cassius Tegah with the nurse, Gladys fled into a neighbour’s room; a magistrate court registrar said.
The deceased traced his mother and made his way into the room to get her to take her medication. Unknown to Cassius, the mother was hiding a knife in her cloth which she later used to stab him in the chest.
Neighbors who chanced on the incident were compelled to retreat for their own safety, and later rushed Cassius to the hospital.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Eyewitnesses told Citi News that the suspect after allegedly committing the crime locked herself in the room.
The Dzodze Police were informed about the horrific incident, and they have detained the suspect for interrogations including a medical examination.

‘Madman’ sets two apartments ablaze

Two apartments were Tuesday morning set ablaze in Takoradi, Western region, by a man suspected to be mentally challenged.
Mawul, who is in his early thirties, had jokingly announced his intention to set his mother’s apartment ablaze Tuesday, and neighbours also treated it lightly and did not therefore take any proactive measure.
True to his words, Mawul reportedly set fire in his mother’s apartment, which is an old bungalow previously occupied by staff of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. The fire spread to the adjourning apartment.
The suspect tried to escape from the scene but some residents pursued and accosted him. Eye-witness’ account indicates that the two apartments affected by the fire were occupied by nine people.
The inferno consumed their money and other valuables.
One of the victims narrating the incident to Connect FM’s Victoria Nana Amoh, said she was alarmed when she saw the fire in her apartment, after her attention was drawn to it.
Because she was panicking and jittering, she jumped out of her room leaving behind GH? 1,200.00 and other belongings at the mercy of the fire, she recounted.
Mawul has since been arrested and detained at the Takoradi Central police station. Meanwhile, a resident recalled that in recent past Mawul had mercilessly beaten an old man in the community, but no action was taken by the police though the issue was reported to them.
Residents are pilling pressure on the accused family to immediately find cure for his mental condition before the worst could happen.

Residents and drivers at Awutu Breku in the Central Region have been subjected to harassment by a rampaging mad man in the area.
Some victims who spoke to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said the man who came in the lorry station some days ago, has been a source of worry to them.
They said the mad man chases passersby away with stones, clubs and other harmful implements and sometimes spit at them.
“He slapped one guy here me but he didn’t mind him. He tried to break someone’s car but the person got angry and slapped him back and that’s where it all started.
“He was going around destroying anything he feels like” one driver told Adom News.
Meanwhile some of the victims didn’t spare him as they retaliated by beating him mercilessly till he fell unconscious.
The police are yet to be informed on the matter.

A man believed to be mentally deranged went berserk Tuesday morning and attacked residents and properties in Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

The Ashanti Regional Police commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah narrating the incident to Adom News said the man, 38, who is a driver went on rampage after his wife refused to give him his one month old baby to carry.

According to DCOP Ken Yeboah, an uncle of the man reporting the incident to the police said the wife refused to give him the baby because he nearly broke his spine the last time the baby was in his custody.

The wife’s decision which did not go down well for the man started destroying properties and attacking anyone he sets his eyes on.

DCOP Ken Yeboah, noted that the rear and front windscreens of a car, belonging to a bank in the area were smashed by the man.

He said the man who is currently receiving treatment at the hospital due to some injury sometimes go berserk and behaved abnormally.

“The man who actually went berserk when he asked to carry his month old baby but the wife refused and that’s how come he started attacking people in the area. He was arrested by some youth in the area to the police station but currently receiving treatment at the hospital because of some injury” DCOP Yeboah said.

Audio: Mad man butchers 4 at Abrepo

A man believed to be in his 30s and mentally deranged has attacked four persons at Abrepo Junction a suburb in the Kumasi Metropolis Tuesday morning.

An eyewitness who spoke to Adom News’ Awuku reported that the man whose name was given as Isakah Daniel was nearly lynched by onlookers but for the timely intervention of the police for the unprovoked attack.

The fourth person he noted however mustered courage and dispossessed him of the cutlass.
“We don’t even know where the mad man came from only to see him attacking passer-bys with a cutlass” he said.

However, the Suame Divisional Police Commander, Supritendent Prince Judah Cobbina who confirmed the incident to Adom News said Isakah Daniel was undergoing treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for his condition after being referred from the North Suntreso government hospital.

According to him, the man attacked the security men manning his ward and left the facility only to be spotted attacking residents later that morning.

He has since been subdued and handed over to authorities at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital while the injured have since been treated and discharged.
