A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault following a motor accident at Maamobi in Accra.

According to a statement issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit and signed by Supt. Juliana Obeng, the Kotobabi District Police Command picked up the suspect after investigations into the incident.

Police said the case dates back to Saturday, February 22, 2026, when officers on routine patrol in the Maamobi area encountered a 24-year-old man, identified as Yakubu Manan Abdul.

He reportedly told the patrol team that he had been involved in a motor accident with another individual, later identified as Razak Kwanda.

Preliminary findings indicate that during the incident, the suspect allegedly attacked and assaulted the victim, leaving him injured.

The patrol team subsequently transported the injured man, along with his damaged motorbike, to the Kotobabi Police Station, where a formal complaint was filed and investigations were initiated.

The suspect was later arrested on Wednesday, February 26, 2026, at about 9:45 a.m. Police say he is currently on enquiry bail and is assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against resorting to violence in the event of road traffic accidents or disputes.

“We urge all individuals to remain calm and allow law enforcement officers to handle such matters in accordance with the law,” the statement added.

The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and appealed to anyone with relevant information to support the police in their investigations.

Maamobi residents threaten demo over planned demolition [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/maamobi-residents-threaten-demo-over-planned-demolition-video/ Wed, 27 Jul 2022 15:29:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2142538

Residents of Maamobi Polyclinic and its environs in the Ayawaso North Municipality have vowed to protest any decision by the government to demolish their buildings.

The assembly had given an ultimatum for the residents to relocate to pave way for the demolition and subsequent developmental works in the area.

However, the disgruntled residents have lamented the deadline is too short and will soon hit the streets should the government decide to demolish the structures.

Speaking to Adom News‘ Prince Owusu, the Assemblyman for the area, Wisdom Boateng, indicated they will write to the police in the coming days to secure a permit for their demonstration.

A resident stated: “We understand this is a state land and we cannot fight with the government but the period is too short for us.”

Another questioned, “Why would Akufo-Addo want to demolish the area when former presidents; Rawlings, Atta Mills and Mahama made no move to evict us because they acknowledged we are Ghanaians?”

Meanwhile, Mr Boateng has urged cool heads among the residents as authorities and stakeholders have met at the Chief Imoro Social Centre at Kawkudi for a resolution to the matter.

Nima clash: Two more suspects arrested https://www.adomonline.com/nima-clash-two-more-suspects-arrested/ Thu, 20 Jan 2022 06:56:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2069562 The Ghana Police Service has announced that two more persons have been arrested in connection with the clash at Nima in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, January 18.

The arrest brings the total number of arrests to nine.

“The two people were arrested at Ashalaja. Thanks to the effective intel network of the police in collaboration with the people, we got two of them and weapons like a pump-action gun, a set of security uniforms and unregistered motorbikes were retrieved from them,” he said.

Addressing a press briefing at the National Operations Centre, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kwesi Ofori added that the suspects have been placed in police custody and are assisting in investigations.

The arrest comes after a timely intervention by the Police on Tuesday afternoon averted what could have been bloodshed following a violent clash between the youth of Nima and Maamobi.

In videos widely circulated on social media, the youth in the adjoining communities attacked each other with clubs and cutlasses around.

The immediate cause of the clash is not known, however, it is alleged that there is a long-standing feud between the youth of Nima and Maamobi until it escalated into Tuesday’s clash.

ACP Kwesi Ofori said five persons were injured during the clash adding that three of the persons were seriously injured.

“One person is at the 37 Military Hospital and two others are at the Police Hospital also being offered medical care. So far, our records indicate that no death has been recorded and our attentions also has not been drawn to any death in any of the hospitals,” he told the media.

He said some of the gang members are nursing their health privately by refusing to seek medical attention from professional health care workers.

ACP Ofori added that the suspects have been placed in police custody and they are assisting in investigations.

What you didn’t know about life in Zongo: My experience https://www.adomonline.com/__trashed-15/ Tue, 08 Oct 2019 16:03:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1710437 Zongos are often populated communities inhabited by people of Northern Ghana and other West African countries. Hausa is the main language of the people who reside here and many are Muslims.

Nima is one of over 400 of such communities in Ghana. Several thoughts come to mind when Nima’s name is mentioned, perhaps for bad reasons.

But, that could depend on the angle one sees Nima which boasts of remarkable places like Michigan, Since Morning, Yellow House, Salt Lake and Nuriya and Five-Five. There are also other notable areas such as Baakin Gutter and Famous Buza 11.

There is one thing in common among these places. The youth have avenue to come together to discuss issues that affect their lives directly or indirectly.

These informal meetings have over the years deepened unity among Nima youth. They are always there for each other in one accord. Yes there is unity in strength.

Nima has over the years produced classy artistes whose names are written in gold on the walls of that community. Reigning dancehall artiste group, Shatta Movement is one of them.

Rudebwoy Ranking, D-Sherrif, Alkaboss, Bosschick, Wizkhel and Captan complete the list.

Nima becomes the centre of all activities during festive seasons such Eid. People from all walks of life throng here to either participate or observe merry-making activities such as bike riding, street jams and carnivals among others.

I had a long held opinion that Nima was a den for all sorts of criminal activities and social vices until I visited. It is a community bounded by unity, respect and diverse culture.

Despite the positives, Nima is fast growing into a slum. Many here lack access to basic amenities like running water, electricity, healthcare and job opportunities among others.

Women carrying heavy jerrycans and spilling water as they trudge homeward along sewage lines brimming with human waste is a common occurrence.

Girls carrying water collected from taps

It is common to see dogs follow the scent of beans and ugali being cooked in alleyways of tin houses with curtains as doors.

High unemployment rate among the youth is alarming. The saying that “devil finds work for the idle hands” comes to play here.

Though statistics are readily not available, there are reports a section of the youth engage in social vices and often find themselves at the wrong side of the law.

Boys at the age of 17 can be found smoking marijuana in the main streets whilst girls idle around.

There is, therefore, the need for traditional, religious as well as government agencies such as the National Commission on Civic Education to pay attention to Nima.

This will preserve the unique lifestyle of the people of Nima for posterity, God and country.
