Mr Iddrisu has insisted they only shared water and drinks.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, he explained that, the water and drinks were even for Electoral Commission(EC) officials and NPP agents but not the voters.

“It is not true. We did not take any food to the centre; it was just drinks and water for the agents and EC officials. It was only four voters who requested for water to drink.

“It is our tradition that when people are working, we must get something for them to eat so we didn’t give it to people who are voting, we gave it to people who are our agents and the EC officers,” he stated.

Footage from the Legon Police Station polling centre, captured Madam Alhassan on Monday handing out bags of food and water to individuals in the voting queue assisted by her team.

The incident caused some agitation at the polling centre, raising concerns about voter influence.

But Mr Iddrisu has said the allegations are mere propaganda by the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

He questioned why the NDC did not hand over anybody to the Police if indeed they witnessed cases of voter influence.

“Lydia Alhassan and Dumelo were both at the centre to engage the voters but there was no attempt to influence voters in any way. If I was an agent, I would have brought the Police in instead of running to the media to complain. They should stop spreading lies,” he added.

Meanwhile, the MP has denied the allegations, claiming she was not even at the centre when the distribution took place.

The initiative’s first phase focused on stakeholder engagement, policy discussions, and region-wide clean-up campaigns, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive assessment of waste management practices.

As part of the Graphic-Zoomlion Cleanest Region Ranking, Ghana’s 16 regions will be evaluated on their waste management efficiency, considering factors such as the availability and quality of solid waste infrastructure, access to sanitation and hygiene facilities, the prevalence of litter and illegal dumping, the effectiveness of environmental regulation enforcement, the level of community involvement and education, the utilization of technology solutions, the provision of green spaces and urban planning, the accuracy of waste data collection and reporting, and the issuance of contracts and permits.

By examining these critical aspects, the ranking aims to provide a holistic picture of each region’s waste management performance. To support this effort, Mr. Sowa led a team to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR) last Thursday to secure project support and collaboration.

Newly commissioned Integrated Recycling and Composting Plantcreate to create over 1000 jobs https://www.adomonline.com/newly-commissioned-integrated-recycling-and-composting-plantcreate-to-create-over-1000-jobs/ Mon, 13 May 2024 11:54:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2393760 A newly commissioned Integrated Recycling and Composting Plant by the Jospong Group of Companies in Akrofu in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region is expected to curb environmental degradation and mitigate climate change.

The facility, which has a capacity of processing over 600 tonnes of plastic, rubber, electronic and scrub, paper and tyre would offer over 1,000 jobs for locals.

The Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong said 8 municipalities and districts namely; Ho, South Dayi, Ho West, Adaklu, Agortime Ziope, Central Tongu, Afadjato South and North Dayi Districts will benefit from the project.

He said that the facility equipped with cutting-edge technology and a highly skilled team of experts would maximize resource recovery, reduce waste, and promote a circular economy that would serve as a resource center for tertiary institutions for practical purposes.

He further indicated that the recycling plant would promote eco-tourism and help imbibe in citizens the habit of waste segregation, which is one surest way of cleaning the country of filth.

“According to the Ministry of Lands, the ecotourism sector contributed 5.5% to the GDP in 2020. Our facility is strategically positioned in the environment sector to enhance this contribution by opening it up to children to learn segregation at source, professional bodies, both public and private organizations within the enclave and beyond”, he added.

Dr Siaw said that the recycling plant would help Ghana benefit from Carbon credits.

“This ground-breaking project is projected to prevent emissions equivalent to a staggering 1.56 million metric tons of CO2 with expected carbon returns exceeding $20,000,000 by the year 2030.

One of our flagship projects, the Ho IRECOP facility, stands as a testament to our commitment. Annually diverting 105,600 tons of municipal solid waste from landfills, it generates a minimum carbon revenue of $715,000 showcasing the financial viability of sustainable practices”, he said.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa congratulated the management of Jospong Group of Companies on the great stride, and promised his administration’s support to the success of the initiative.

He outlined energy conservation, employment opportunities, environmental protection, education, and awareness as major benefits of the recycling plant.

“The facility promotes environmental education and awareness, empowering individuals and organisations to make informed choices about waste management and recycling”, he said.

The President’s representative at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Lydia Seyram Alhassan said the establishment of the plant was a result of a partnership between her Ministry and the Jospong Group of Companies to promote solid waste management and protect the environment.

She added that, the end product of the facility which includes organics, plastic, paper, and glass among others would be used for agricultural purposes, feed manufacturing industry, and exported.

Madam Alhassan urged government appointees to support the President’s vision of making Ghana a clean country by engaging in proper waste management practices to rid the country of filth and ensure drains are not choked to prevent flooding.

This was when she was asked questions about the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary by-election disturbances.

She told the committee that she was no where near the incident and could not be held responsible for the violence at the Bawaleshie polling station.

“I was in pain (apparently referring to the death of her husband which led to the by-election) and couldn’t have been involved in any violence,” she said.

Her answer to the question asked by the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, was truncated briefly as the chairman of the committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, tried to calm her down.

Practice

As has been the practice, leaders of Parliament who appear before the committee are treated differently and as a former First Deputy Whip, she was not asked many questions.
