According to Lord Kenya, many Ghanaian artistes have become overly reliant on the dialect, diluting the authenticity of their craft. He described the patois used by local Reggae/Dancehall artistes as “disturbing to the ears.”

In a respectful yet firm rebuttal, Epixode clarified that while he occasionally uses patois, it is never an attempt to imitate Jamaicans.

“Me, I speak street patois,” he said. “I can’t get it 100% because I’m not Jamaican, and I’ve never claimed to be. But I express myself the way I know how.”

The award-winning artiste acknowledged Lord Kenya’s influence in Ghana’s music industry, particularly in stage performance, but expressed disappointment over the tone of the veteran’s comments.

“No disrespect to Lord Kenya, but patois comes in different levels. It would have been nice for someone with such a legacy to sit this one out, because it gives room for people to disrespect him.”

Epixode urged industry legends to support rather than criticise the current generation of artistes.

“Don’t trash our hard work. We are all building on the foundations they laid. We’re not trying to erase their legacy, we’re extending it.”

He also noted that music transcends language, stressing that vibe and longevity are more important than dialects.

Despite the disagreement, Epixode maintained that Lord Kenya remains one of his role models when it comes to performance, but insisted that the criticism “holds no water,” especially at a time when Ghanaian music is reaching international audiences in diverse ways.

I will collaborate with King Paluta if… – Lord Kenya https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-collaborate-with-king-paluta-if-lord-kenya/ Sat, 03 May 2025 17:49:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2531292 Former rap icon-turned-evangelist Lord Kenya has expressed admiration for fast-rising Ghanaian rapper King Paluta, saying the young artiste reminds him of his own early days in the music industry.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Lord Kenya—known in private life as Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo Kainya—praised King Paluta’s lyrical energy and delivery, noting striking similarities with his youthful self.

“One young artiste who reminds me of my early music days is King Paluta. His flow and energy are very much like how I used to sound when I started out,” he shared.

Although he stepped away from secular music over a decade ago to fully embrace his Christian faith, Lord Kenya emphasized that his musical gift remains intact.

“I’ve never stopped making music; it’s a talent God blessed me with. I’d be open to doing a song with King Paluta—but only on one condition: he must accept Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. Then we can create a gospel song together to glorify God,” he said.

Lord Kenya shot to fame in the late 1990s with chart-topping hits such as Sika Baa, earning him a place among Ghana’s musical greats. Known for his commanding stage presence and lyrical depth, he won several awards including Hiplife Album of the Year and gained international recognition.

Originally from Kumasi, Lord Kenya showed potential in both athletics and music during his school years. Though his family hoped he would study law, his passion for music ultimately won.

In 2010, at the peak of his career, he underwent a life-changing spiritual awakening, gave his life to Christ, and renounced secular music. Today, he ministers as an evangelist, using his life story as a testimony of transformation and divine purpose.

Lord Kenya heaps praises on King Paluta over similarities in music style https://www.adomonline.com/lord-kenya-heaps-praises-on-king-paluta-over-similarities-in-music-style/ Tue, 29 Apr 2025 17:23:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2529945 Ghanaian rapper Lord Kenya has heaped praise on rising music sensation King Paluta, drawing striking parallels between the young artiste’s style and his own during his prime.

The endorsement from the hiplife pioneer comes at a time when King Paluta is enjoying a meteoric rise in Ghana’s music scene and is being tipped as a strong contender for the coveted Artiste of the Year award.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Lord Kenya, who now identifies as an evangelist following his departure from secular music, said King Paluta’s rap delivery and energy reminded him of his younger self during the peak of his music career.

“One rising new artiste I see myself in is King Paluta. If you listen to his flow, it is much like my younger self,” he stated.

Lord Kenya, who was instrumental in shaping Ghana’s rap and hiplife landscape in the early 2000s, noted that King Paluta’s current popularity mirrors the attention he attracted when the genre was still gaining mainstream appeal.

While Lord Kenya has since turned away from secular music, he revealed that he has not abandoned music entirely. He expressed interest in a possible collaboration with King Paluta—but with a condition rooted in his Christian faith.

“I have not stopped doing music because it is a talent God has given me, and I will consider doing a track with King Paluta. But first of all, he has to take Christ as his personal savior, and together we can do a song to praise God,” he said.

King Paluta, known for his energetic delivery and authentic style, recently released his first single of 2025, titled Foko. The song has been widely praised for its lyrical strength and sound, reinforcing public comparisons to Lord Kenya’s early hits.

Lord Kenya shares his experience with the late Baba Spirit https://www.adomonline.com/lord-kenya-shares-his-experience-with-the-late-baba-spirit/ Tue, 25 Oct 2022 14:21:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2175443 Rev Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo, known in the showbiz circles as Lord Kenya, has revealed he had a personal relationship with late comedian Baba Spirit.

Lord Kenya mentioned that Baba Spirit became his protégé after he won an impersonation competition where he acted as Lord Kenya.

In a bid to provide mentorship for the then budding celebrity, the legendary musician said he camped Baba Spirit in his house at Breman, together with other persons he was supporting.

Lord Kenya further stated that Baba Spirit was with him throughout his years of illness to the very moment he was delivered and ordained a Reverend.

Contrary to claims that the late comedian was a traditionalist, Lord Kenya revealed Baba was a staunch Christian who had accompanied him to church on multiple occasions.

“When I was delivered he came to my church, Faith of Grace, to invite me to another church where he was attending. He even scouted for churches for us to go and minister for three days”.

He made the revelation while addressing some claims Baba made in an interview shortly before his demise that he did not believe in the supremacy of God.

Lord Kenya believes Baba’s denouncement of God could contribute to his spiritual downfall and subsequent death.

He believes the name Spirit had a toll on his life, and rather than hold steadfast his faith, he made a U-turn to the worldly system.

Okomfour Kwadee’s family to sue Lord Kenya… [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/okomfour-kwadees-family-to-sue-lord-kenya-watch/ Tue, 30 Jun 2020 11:45:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1819829 Family of popular rapper, Okomfour Kwadee, has served a notice to musician-turned-pastor Lord Kenya to back off from their much-loved family member who has been “sick” for years now.

According to them, Lord Kenya and his friends, who have sworn to cater for Okomfour Kwadee, should refrain from such gestures if they want to avoid embarrassment and subsequent notices.

Reacting to this in a video sighted by Adomonline.com on social media, Lord Kenya said he cannot fathom why Okomfour’s family wouldn’t want people to help him.

Additionally, he said it’s difficult to comprehend how Kwadee’s family can get money to sue him but they cannot channel that same energy to help the musician recover.

In a video that circulated a few weeks ago, Lord Kenya visited Okomfour Kwadee at a rehabilitation centre where the duo, who were once reigning in the music space, had a hearty conversation.

The pastor promised to take care of his brother, adding that, he will make sure he bounces back into the entertainment sphere.

MORE:

But in the latest development, Lord Kenya has been asked by Okomfour’s family to refrain or face the law.

All of a sudden we don’t know where this is coming from? The lawyer said we should note that they have their client’s instruction to sue us in the court of law for damages for any unauthorised use or access to their clients.

This is a letter from Okomfour’s family and the same lawyer we were calling to tell him that the rapper needs to be discharged.

The mother instructed the letter to be written though his son is stable now. We were asking what plans they had for him. If you don’t have plans for him, why is it that people are helping him and all of a sudden there is pressure?

I cannot help a friend and be taken to court for that. There is so much pain and struggle. Why are you guys troubling him like this?

Why are you frustrating the guy like that? To the extent that, we all know the situation and we have all united to take our brother to rehab. Where from this? Why are you suing me in court for helping Okomfour Kwadee?

They should know that who God has blessed no man can curse. All these years, so you have money to go to court? Why are we like that?

Okomfo Kwadee is definitely coming back.

Okyeame Kwame shares a 1992 high school photo to tell a funny ‘Lord Kenya’ story [Read] https://www.adomonline.com/okyeame-kwame-shares-a-1992-high-school-photo-to-tell-a-funny-lord-kenya-story-read/ Sat, 25 Apr 2020 12:31:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1784210 Rapper Okyeame Kwame has recounted his Senior High School days with an epic throwback picture when he was performing at Kumasi Anglican Secondary School in 1992.

According to him, he was in the same school with rapper-turned-pastor Lord Kenya, who at that time was his rival, though he, Okyeame Kwame, was a junior.

Narrating the story behind the photo of the young ‘Rap Docta’ holding a microphone with his police-like hat, a blazer and a khaki trouser, he had this to say:

MORE:

“So let me tell U a story. This pic was taken in 1992. I was at KASS form 5. It was a Saturday entertainment night. I remember before this performance Lord Kenya and his boys had tied me to my bed so that he will be the only dope rapper for the night .

“Kenya and his boys were tall, strong and wild. My boys and I were short and afraid. We waited for them to leave my dorm then they untied me and I rushed to the Dining hall.

“When I grabbed the mic, I started my rap which was written by my rap teacher called @PowerfullaudMarcus. @plm

“Cocaine is like Cain and will bring u pain. Stop the drugs it will lead you to rugs. Too much abortion causes abomination and contraceptive is sometimes deceptive.

“Then they whole school went like “yeeeeeeeeeeeeeey ‘ by the way they used to call me ‘whiz kid’.”

How Obrafour, Lord Kenya rap feud started https://www.adomonline.com/how-obrafour-lord-kenya-rap-feud-started/ Mon, 04 Nov 2019 17:51:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1718112 Rap Sofo, Obrafour passed by Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Monday and made some interesting revelations about his music career.

One of the things he discussed that amazed people was how the rap beef between him and colleague Lord Kenya started.

According to Obrafour, he had an ardent fan in Lord Kenya’s camp who was telling him everything they discussed in their studios, hence was forced to reply him on one of his songs.

He told Andy Dosty that, “a friend of mine who was in Lord’s camp once told me Lord had mocked me when I stated in my song ‘Yaanom’ that I was a rap heavyweight champion and that he was the real heavyweight. I went into defence upon hearing that by recording a song in response.”

Obrafour explained that unlike today, their beef was healthy and further helped them promote their works organically.

“We didn’t sit to plan but at the back of our mind we knew it was cool. I never went on radio to incite the fans against Lord, neither did he do that. If I release an album, fans go for it because they know there is something there for Lord,” he concluded.

Lord Kenya is ungrateful – Okraku Mantey https://www.adomonline.com/lord-kenya-ungrateful-okraku-mantey/ Fri, 16 Feb 2018 06:43:09 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=935921 Chief Executive Officer of Slip Entertainment, Mark Okraku Mantey has described rapper turned Pastor, Lord Kenya, as one of the most ungrateful persons he has managed in the past.
The producer, who managed Lord Kenya for about 3 years, has said the amount of investment and effort injected into his success were not duly appreciated.
Video: I pity Shatta Wale – Mark Okraku-Mantey
According to him, the musician exhibited signs of disrespect, in and invariably hopped unto a new record label without his consent.

Mark Okraku Mantey
“Sometimes I could send someone to call Lord Kenya, for me because I am making a booking for an event, he would send someone to me that, he is with his manager so when he is through he will come,” he recounted.
He also denied rumours the ‘Born Again’ hitmaker has made in the past suggesting that he was cheated of his earnings by Mr Okraku Mantey.
According to Mr Okraku Mantey artises normally use claims of cheating on the part of their handlers as an excuse “to run out of contracts…because now he or she has some form of equity, so they can ride on their equity.”
He explained that, even at the time when Lord Kenya was at his prime performing at an average of two shows per week, his share as a manager was never from what he earned from the performances.

The business agreement between the two was getting a percentage of the sales of the musician’s album, he said.
This arrangement according to the producer, did not constitute cheating.
The producer who has is no longer in production and artiste management mentioned the likes of late highlife musician Daasebre Dwamena, and Gospel artiste Nana Yaw Asare amongst others, as those who have made his work outstanding.
“We create stars, they become monsters, they come back to chew us up,” Mr Okraku Mantey lamented.

He however hinted Obrafour would need to convince him that he is born again before they sing together.

He was speaking with Fancy Di Maria on Angel Sunset Drive today.

The born again musician admonished Christians not to condemn high life musician, Ofori Amponsah, who returned from priesthood into the secular music arena but rather pray for his deliverance.

Evangelist Lord Kenya also revealed on the show that, some Ghanaian celebrities may be called to do the work of God in the not too distant future adding that he had most of them on his prayer list.

Sharing some of his experience before he gave his life to Christ, Lord Kenya said, “I used to smoke wee with Lazy Dog, but he was not a good smoker…he comes and goes while I spent my day at the wee smoking base.”
