Speaking during a meeting with members of the Local Governance Network (LOGNET) and key Ministry officials in Accra, Mr. Ibrahim outlined his vision for a transparent and responsible government focused on national development.

“I assure you that this Ministry will not only deliver good governance but will also ensure that every pesewa is managed responsibly. Accountability will be at the heart of all our actions,” he stated, stressing that these principles will guide the Ministry’s operations under his leadership.

His comments reflected the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, with a strong emphasis on transparency and responsibility in local governance.

Mr. Ibrahim also highlighted the importance of strengthening accountability mechanisms across local governance structures, ensuring that the John Mahama-led NDC government remains focused on fostering progress through effective leadership.

John Nkaw, Chairperson of LOGNET and Country Director for ActionAid Ghana, congratulated the Minister on his appointment. He expressed confidence in Mr. Ibrahim’s ability to meet the Ministry’s objectives and emphasized the role of collaboration in achieving the government’s development goals.

“We, at LOGNET, stand ready to support you and your team in any way we can. With the cooperation of all involved, I am confident that the Ministry will succeed in its mission to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development,” Mr. Nkaw remarked.

On his first day at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim set a clear tone for the future, calling for unity, professionalism, and a focus on national transformation.

As he assumed his new role, the Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration among the staff, urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to public service and steer clear of political influence in their work.

Ahmed Ibrahim encouraged the staff to work together toward the collective goal of transforming the nation.

He underscored the need for collaboration within the Ministry to ensure that public institutions remain independent and serve the people, rather than becoming political offices.

Mr. Ibrahim tasked the Head of the Local Government Service with conducting a headcount of all staff across the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

He noted that this exercise would be crucial in fostering efficiency and ensuring that resources and personnel are optimally allocated to serve the public.

Encroachment on public lands has been a significant concern, but the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development says it is working to protect public lands, particularly those under local government jurisdiction.

The Minister of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, Adjei Mensah Korsah, has warned all individuals and groups who have encroached on lands to stay off, stating that structures springing up on those lands will soon be demolished.

The Minister indicated this while answering questions on the alleged takeover of Parks and Gardens lands in Accra, Wa, and other parts of the country.

This was after the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, asked the Minister about the measures the Ministry was employing to protect those lands.

Regarding the Accra Parks and Gardens, the Minister revealed that the land in question shows no indication of private acquisition therefore, the Ministry will ensure all public lands encroached upon will be reclaimed.

However, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed concern over the apparent takeover of state lands and called for action.

He revealed that, individuals are obtaining various kinds of lawsuits to gain access to public lands.
