Appearing before the Parliament’s ad-hoc committee on Tuesday, Dr Akuffo Dampare said he recused himself from the process.

“I recused myself from the process. So I was not part of whatever decision that was taken to interdict or not interdict anyone. It is a matter that was considered at the Police Council and they handled it in my absence. Anytime any issue about this particular incident is discussed anywhere within the police leadership, I’m absent I think and I believe that is the right thing to do.” he said.

The Ghana Police Service issued a press statement announcing the interdiction of three senior officers due to their involvement in a contentious audio recording, which is currently under parliamentary scrutiny.

However, in a surprising turn of events on the same day, another press statement dated September 7, 2023, revealed the suspension of the interdiction.

Mr Cudjoe said it is inappropriate for the Committee Chairman to entertain claims from individual police officers who harbor animosity towards the IGP.

In an interview on Class FM, Mr Cudjoe argues that, the Committee’s decision to allow the individuals caught on the tape to make additional allegations against the IGP is a deliberate attempt to find fault with him.

He stated that, the Committee’s work should have concluded when the three individuals on the tape confessed to their actions.

In Mr. Cudjoe’s view, the current situation appears to be a comedy of errors, and he characterizes it as a repetition of tactics previously used against the IGP.

The Imani Africa boss said these individuals hold a deep-seated resentment towards Dampare, thus Mr. Atta Akyea must cease entertaining their claims.

The Committee has met with the three police officers who were recorded on the leaked tape, as well as Bugri Naabu, who has admitted to recording their conversation.

Mr. Naabu disclosed this information during his appearance before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee, which was convened to investigate the alleged conspiracy against the IGP.

According to him, he was informed that IGP Akufo-Dampare would influence the outcome of the Assin North by-election, which the NPP ultimately lost to the NDC.

“What they told me was that if we (NPP) go to the Assin North by-election, this IGP will ensure our defeat. Actually, they went for the elections, and we lost to the NDC. It means what they said was true,

“It means if we go into the 2024 polls, the IGP will make the NPP lose whether people vote for us or not because John Mahama has promised him that if they win the elections, he will maintain him.”

The Ad-Hoc Committee, chaired by the esteemed Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta-Akyea, includes legal and human rights specialist Dr Isaac Lartey Annan.

This committee has been tasked with investigating the veracity of the leaked tape and the intricate allegations that have captured the nation’s attention.
