Lawrence Tetteh regarding alleged HIV infections among students at the university.

According to the university, Rev Lawrence Tetteh’s remark was “insensitive and highly disappointing. His claims are totally unfounded and not supported by available data.”

Rev Lawrence Tetteh while speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 24, 2024 said “the number of young boys and girls in Legon, who are HIV positive, you will have the biggest shock of your life. This is sad, and I am happy I am saying this on national TV.”

“Some of these young girls and young boys already on campuses, are living promiscuous life and they have already contracted HIV/AIDS,” he said.

“There are people I have prayed for on campus and I am not talking about 10 years, 5 years, 2 years [ago] or infact in the past. This is present, I go to campus a lot, but it is sad. And if some of them tell you how they get into it, because what is happening is that, some of these girls go to the places and then when they come back, they also connect with the boys and girls there, so a lot of people think they are getting a [fresh] boy, a [fresh] girl but …”

But in a press statement dated October 24, 2024 and signed by Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, the Director of Public Affairs Directorate, the University of Ghana stated that Rev Lawrence Tetteh’s remark was “insensitive and highly disappointing. His claims are totally unfounded and not supported by available data.”

It said it must be noted that public discussions around HIV/AIDS must be grounded in verified facts, not speculation.

“HIV status cannot be determined through counselling or prayer; scientific methods remain the only means for diagnosing infections. Statements made without data-backed evidence mislead the public and risk amplifying fear, stigma and misinformation,” the university stated.

It added that “handling sensitive health information requires the highest ethical standards. Also, linking HIV prevalence to specific demographics or institutions, especially without evidence, leans toward sensationalism rather than meaningful health awareness. Such statements risk undermining the confidentiality of indiiduals who may have entrusted their health information in confidence. It is, therefore, disappointing that Rev. Tetteh, given his standing, would make such comments without regard for the privacy and dignity of those affected.

“The University of Ghana has implemented comprehensive health and wellness measures for the University community, including compulsory medical exams conducted by the University Health Services Directorate and confidential counselling through our Careers and Counselling Directorate for students. Our commitment to a transformative student experience ensures that health, privacy and support services are top priorities on all our campuses.

Election 2024: Let’s vote on values, not party lines – Dr Lawrence Tetteh https://www.adomonline.com/election-2024-lets-vote-on-values-not-party-lines-dr-lawrence-tetteh/ Sat, 11 May 2024 15:42:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2393284 President of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Reverend Dr Lawrence Tetteh, is urging Ghanaians to vote in the nation’s interest on December 7.

“We must learn to put Ghana first and not our political parties. The forthcoming election is going to be a test on our level of tolerance and maturity in our democratic process.”

“Democracy and election must not be war because kings, priests and political leaders are enthroned by God and not by the ballot box. Patriotism is required of every Ghanaian to move this nation forward. Let us vote wisely,” he stressed.

Dr Tetteh said this during a media briefing on his 31-day National Prayer and Healing Rally organised from May 01 to May 30, 2024.

The Prayer rally is dubbed “This Nonsense Must Stop.” It is a non-denominational event aimed at bringing together religious leaders and worshippers to pray for Ghana.

Dr Tetteh said the purpose of the 31-day prayer rally was to seek God’s intervention in the face of “challenges and nonsense” in the country.

He said that the country could not be salvaged through politics or economic structures, but rather through divine intervention.

“There is no gain saying that our politics, our economy and our educational systems, our professional and religious institutions are in crisis. This is the reason why we must pray in these crucial times. A prayerless nation is a powerless nation,” he added.

Dr Tetteh called for an end to what he described as a culture of insults that had taken over the country’s airwaves, saying that it was unacceptable for political forums to be used for insults, provocations and character assassination.

He also urged the country’s political, traditional and religious leaders to speak up and act against society’s ills.

According to him, the silence of leaders, especially religious leaders on national issues such as the LGBTQ and illegal mining, was emboldening perpetrators of those acts to continue their activities without reproach.

“It is very sad that our political leaders are being distracted and playing politics with these issues, whereas our religious and traditional leaders looked unconcerned.”

“Posterity will judge us if we don’t address this and stand up to do what is right for our nation. We must stand together in a massive united front to confront this canker,” he stressed.

His motivation to support the driver is due to the zeal and selflessness shown by Mr Ackon.

“I am happy to support him in any way. If he is going to buy a new car, we can help him with the difference to get a good car. This is a moral story. These are things we need in Ghana. This is not a greedy person ……at the back of somebody’s expense. I need to support him” Rev. Tetteh said.

Driver Ackon became a topic for discussion on social media platforms, after the Editor in Chief of the Fourth Estate, Manesseh Azure Awuni called on prominent people in the country to support the driver beyond words of appreciation.

A number of people reached out to help. Among them was the Vice president, Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia who donated GH¢20,000 to reward Mr. Ackon for his honesty and exemplary show of integrity.

Speaking with Kafui Dey on the GTV Breakfast Show, Rev. Lawrence Tetteh encouraged Vice President Bawumia to introduce the taxi driver to past and present leaders of the country to encourage other Ghanaians to emulate the act of kindness.

“I want to recommend it. The Vice President should not send a message. He should meet him physically. The President should shake hands with him. Former President should shake hands with him. He should go to former President Kufuor’s house. He should be hosted. These are things that he will take pictures with and it will encourage others. We can also receive him here” he stated.

Rev. Tetteh thanked the parents of the taxi driver for the good upbringing.

“We should not forget to congratulate his parents for a good upbringing. This is a moral thing. His wife and all around him has helped in doing the right thing. This is what we need in the country” he opined.

“Our nation will not be saved by politics or economic structures. It will only be saved through the divine intervention of God. We need the intervention of God like never before. VIDEO: I’ve no ‘beef’ with Owusu Bempah – Lawrence Tetteh https://www.adomonline.com/ive-no-beef-with-owusu-bempah-lawrence-tetteh/ Thu, 29 Mar 2018 06:58:07 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1034681
Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, who is the Founding President of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach has dispelled rumors that there’s bad blood between himself and his colleague Pastor, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah.
One of the unpleasant moments that nearly marred the success of the final funeral rites of dancehall diva, Ebony Reigns at the State House last Saturday was how the international preacher took a swipe at Rev. Owusu for disrupting his sermon after he arrived at the funeral grounds and was mobbed by a crowd while exchanging pleasantries while the sermon was ongoing.
However Rev. Dr Lawrence Tetteh who felt his preaching was being disrupted by the noise that had been generated by Rev Owusu Bempah’s gesture, expressed his misgivings by raising his voice saying:
“Ladies and gentlemen I’m preaching…I think this is one thing which we are doing in Ghana which is so disrespectful…A man of God is preaching; we should show respect: it is not right. Rev Isaac join me up stage.
That incident sparked speculation among a section of the public that the two popular men of God were not on good terms.
But reacting to the rumours on Adom TV, Rev. Dr Lawrence Tetteh stated that he has absolutely no problem with Rev. Owusu Bempah whom he describes as his brother.
He added that disrespecting a fellow man of God will be the last thing he’ll ever do in private let alone on such a public event which was being carried live on national TV.
“Why do we love to create problems between pastors. Rev Owusu Bempah is my friend, why will I disrespect or embarrass him. Even the money he had on him that day, when he joined me up the stage I took all and shared it to people around us and told him that next time he should carry more money on him. He even called me yesterday and we had a lovely chat, he was surprised about the sort of commentary that was going on about the incident.”
