We’ve lost a great treasure – Kwabena Kwabena mourns Daddy Lumba https://www.adomonline.com/weve-lost-a-great-treasure-kwabena-kwabena-mourns-daddy-lumba/ Mon, 28 Jul 2025 14:43:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2560564 Highlife star Kwabena Kwabena has paid a moving tribute to the late music icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, describing him as a father figure, mentor, and irreplaceable force in Ghana’s music industry.

Daddy Lumba passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra. He was 60.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, July 28, Kwabena Kwabena reflected on the profound personal and professional impact the veteran singer had on his life.

“He was so in awe of me, my little contributions at the time, and he encouraged me to do more,” he said.

Kwabena Kwabena recalled one of Lumba’s lasting words of wisdom:
“One of the vibes I remember was when he told me, ‘You’re only as good as your last hit.’ That’s what Daddy Lumba told me.”

A Rare Mentor

He described how rare and special it was to have personal access to Daddy Lumba, a figure often seen as reclusive within the music industry.

“Everybody knows how difficult it is to get to him, but when you do and he gives you an appointment, he’ll be there waiting for you. We’ve lost such a great treasure,” he noted.

A Perfectionist at Work

Kwabena Kwabena also highlighted Lumba’s deep understanding of music production and his ability to draw out the best in others.

He recalled a studio session at Appietus’ studio, where Lumba had invited him to contribute to a song. To his surprise, Lumba was not physically present but was monitoring and guiding the process remotely.

“I had no idea he was behind the scenes. I was in the vocal booth doing my thing, and Appietus would speak to him while I worked,” he recounted.

“The next day he called and said, ‘Oh wow! I love what you did.’”

Celebrating a Legend

In closing, Kwabena Kwabena described Daddy Lumba as more than just a musical genius.

“He was a great father, a great legend, and a great artiste by all standards.”

The revelation was made during the official launch of ASO @ 20, held at Croks Lounge in Osu on Friday, July 18, 2025.

The event forms part of a series of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the iconic song, which many consider a cornerstone in modern Ghanaian highlife music.

Addressing guests at the event, Kwabena Kwabena noted that Aso has already received a fresh breath of life in recent times, thanks to King Promise, the reigning TGMA Artist of the Year, who paid tribute to the masterpiece in one of his own projects.

He acknowledged the fresh life breathed into the classic and hinted that the time had come for the beloved track to evolve.

He further revealed that an extended remix of Aso is scheduled for release before the end of the year.

While specific details, including featured artists, have yet to be confirmed, there is strong speculation that King Promise may be involved in the upcoming version.

Originally released in 2005, the song catapulted him into the limelight and remains a staple on Ghanaian music playlists to this day.

The ASO @ 20 celebration will continue with major concerts in Accra, Takoradi, and Kumasi. The Accra edition is scheduled for November 15 at the Labadi Beach Hotel and is expected to feature a stellar lineup of performers and surprise moments that honour both the legacy of the song and the journey of the artist.

Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has expressed disappointment over rapper King Paluta’s recent conduct during a performance abroad.

The controversy arose when King Paluta reacted harshly to a UK-based female fan who appeared to show disapproval of his performance. His response has since sparked widespread public criticism.

Kwabena Kwabena emphasized the importance of professionalism for artistes on stage, urging them to maintain composure regardless of audience reactions.

“Fans spend their hard-earned money to attend shows and deserve respect and entertainment, even when they express criticism,” he said.

He added that public figures, especially musicians, are always under scrutiny and must manage both praise and criticism with maturity.

“The burden of fame comes with the responsibility to handle emotional situations gracefully,” Kwabena Kwabena noted.

He also encouraged King Paluta and his team to reflect on the incident and use it as an opportunity for growth.

The veteran musician’s remarks contribute to ongoing discussions about how artistes should conduct themselves internationally, recognizing that their behavior impacts not only their personal brand but also Ghana’s entertainment industry.

I was disrespected by gospel artiste over EP – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/i-was-disrespected-by-gospel-artiste-over-ep-kwabena-kwabena/ Tue, 10 Jun 2025 10:07:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2543100 Ghanaian highlife artiste George Kwabena Adu, popularly known as Kwabena Kwabena, has revealed that he once felt disrespected by a gospel musician.

According to him, he was dismissed as merely a highlife artiste attempting to venture into gospel music.

He said the gospel artiste’s attitude during their interactions made him feel like an outsider—”a worldly person” unworthy of doing gospel music.

Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, he opened up about this challenge, which occurred before his eventual collaboration with gospel musician Obaapa Christy on his seventh album, God of Restoration EP.

“There was one particular gospel artiste—for obvious reasons, I won’t mention the name—but I believe it was a bit disrespectful. She made me feel like a worldly person. I called her personally, and she told me to speak with her husband,” he said on Hitz FM.

The musician went on to express appreciation to Obaapa Christy for honouring his request for a collaboration.

“I would like to appreciate Obaapa Christy. When I phoned her to talk about doing a song, she made me feel she was rather honoured to do a song with me. It was so humbling, and I say thank you and may God bless her very much. I now understand why she is quite unique,” he added.

The God of Restoration EP is a five-track project, with the first single, Fakyɛme, featuring Obaapa Christy.

Your voice is your gift, protect it – Agya Koo Nimo to Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/your-voice-is-your-gift-protect-it-agya-koo-nimo-to-kwabena-kwabena/ Thu, 20 Feb 2025 06:46:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2506502

Legendary highlife musician Agya Koo Nimo has shared some health advice with highlife crooner Kwabena Kwabena, urging him to avoid excessive alcohol consumption.

During a courtesy visit by Kwabena Kwabena and his team at his residence in Kumasi over the weekend, the 94-year-old palmwine music icon emphasized the importance of maintaining good health.

“Listen to whatever I say. Why am I 94? The first thing, Kwabena, respect our kidneys. Drink a lot of water to clear everything in your kidneys. As for alcohol, you may just take a little,” Agya Koo Nimo said in a video sighted on nydjlive.com.

Using himself as an example, he noted that while he occasionally takes alcohol, he avoids drinks that could harm his health.

“I would just take a bottle of beer, the bitter one. But I do not take hard liquor. Hard liquor will spoil your voice. Your only gift is your voice. I beg you, Kwabena, take good care of yourself,” he advised.

Agya Koo Nimo’s caution aligns with growing concerns about substance abuse among musicians.

Recently, Kwabena Kwabena revealed on UTV that he had quit consuming substances that could negatively impact his health.

A strong advocate of traditional highlife, Kwabena Kwabena has remained committed to the genre, delivering hit songs and organizing concerts over the years.

He received praise from industry stakeholders for his performance at the Vitamilk Love Night concert on February 14, 2025, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

As 2025 marks his 20th year in the music industry, he has announced plans to celebrate the milestone with a series of activities.

There is no record label in Ghana – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/there-is-no-record-label-in-ghana-kwabena-kwabena-2/ Sun, 09 Feb 2025 12:13:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2502352 Ghanaian highlife crooner Kwabena Kwabena has reignited the conversation on whether there are record labels in Ghana.

The ‘Adult Music’ hitmaker, in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, expressed doubt about the assertion that the Ghanaian music industry has record labels.

When asked if he would accept a deal from a Ghanaian record label under favorable terms, he replied, “Are there record labels in Ghana?”

“No, no, no. I am sorry, there is no record label in Ghana,” he said.

Just like Kwabena Kwabena, some people believe that many music companies described as record labels are merely music management and promotional enterprises. He argues that most of these entities only provide label services but do not function as traditional record labels.

Others have countered that the size of a record label has nothing to do with its function, as businesses worldwide vary in scale but often serve similar purposes.

Some music companies described as record labels in Ghana include RuffTown Records, Highly Spiritual Music, Lynx Entertainment, Black Avenue Musik, Mimlife Records, SarkCess Music, MicBurnerz Music, and Flip the Music, among others.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Akwaboah Jr. addressed Kwabena Kwabena’s assertion that he pioneered Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana.

Kwabena Kwabena had stated in a recent interview that he was the first person to organise Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana.

“On the 14th of February 2014, that was the first time I did a Valentine’s concert,” Kwabena said.

Akwaboah expressed surprise at Kwabena Kwabena’s claim, revealing that he had always performed at Kwabena Kwabena’s concert on February 12th, only to see Kwabena Kwabena announce a Valentine’s Day concert on February 14th in 2024.

“Yeah, I was kinda surprised though. I know his concert is always on the 12th of February, and so what we do is, on the 12th, I perform for him, and on the 14th, he comes to my show. And I think 4-5 days before, the team actually called me for a performance for him, and I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll come,’ and all of a sudden, I see him post about the 14th,” he told DJ Slim.

When asked about the reason behind the cancellation of his 2024 Shades of Love concert, Akwaboah Jr. explained: “There were two reasons… one was gigs outside the country, and two, I was looking for a bigger venue, and I got the Grand Arena… that was where it was happening. So, from Kwabena’s own, I was looking for another big one (venue). And I felt like playing outside the country.”

Asked if he was hurt by what Kwabena Kwabena did, he responded in the affirmative.

“In as much as I was hurt, I didn’t have a problem with him because I am not the only one that can do a show on that day,” he said.

Talking about his current relationship with Kwabena Kwabena, Akwaboah stated, “It’s been cool. I mean, we met at Royal Senchi, we talked about it, I asked whether they’re doing it this year and he said yes, and I was like okay, cool.”

Meanwhile, Akwaboah’s Shades of Love Concert 2025 is set to happen at La Palm on February 14th, with regular tickets selling for 300 GHS, VIP for 500 GHS, and VVIP for 750 GHS. For reservations and more, call 0246466770.

Ghanaian musician Kwabena Kwabena has opened up about his dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and how they have treated him over the years.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, he shared his feelings of betrayal after the NPP edited and used one of his songs for their campaign without his permission.

“After they picked the number one position, they decided to use the old song for the campaign, and they contacted the team about it. A conversation began, and before I realized, it had been edited and played on the radio,” he stated.

He explained that they picked the “oye number one” part of the song to communicate their number one position on the ballot without his consent.

Kwabena Kwabena had previously composed a campaign song for the NPP in 2016, titled “Vote Number 1,” which became very popular and helped the party win the elections.

However, his manager, Nana Poku Ashis, disclosed that some individuals took money on Kwabena Kwabena’s behalf without his consent, and the party later denied him compensation, claiming they had already paid him.

Asked how he felt about Nana Akufo-Addo’s eight years in power, Kwabena Kwabena said, “I don’t think any human being would be satisfied; it feels very bad they could behave like that.”

According to him, the outcome of the last election should tell people that “Ghanaians are not satisfied and I cannot be satisfied as well.

Akwaboah had attributed the cancellation of his 2024 Shades of Love concert to Kwabena Kwabena’s event, which was scheduled for the same day and venue.

“For the past 6 years, Valentine’s Day has become synonymous with Akwaboah’s Shades of Love concert. This is why it pains me to say we will not be able to have our concert this year,” Akwaboah wrote in a statement issued in 2024. He also expressed his frustration in an interview on Accra FM, stating that he did not understand why Kwabena Kwabena chose February 14, questioning his decision to hold the event on that day.

However, Kwabena Kwabena clarified the origin of Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana, stating that he started organizing such events before any other Ghanaian musician.

“On the 14th of February 2014, that was the first time I did a Valentine concert. I called it F14. So I started Valentine shows,” he said. He added that it should not be a problem for anyone else to organize events on that day because there are many people who enjoy attending such shows.

Kwabena Kwabena emphasized the importance of acknowledging the contributions of artistes and stated that no artiste should claim exclusive ownership of the day. “No artiste should lay claim that it’s mine. I mean, it’s not fair,” he remarked.

In the meantime, Kwabena Kwabena is set to organize his Valentine’s Day event at the Grand Arena on February 14, 2025. If you want hits, stick to highlife – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/if-you-want-hits-stick-to-highlife-kwabena-kwabena/ Sat, 07 Dec 2024 02:10:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2480312 For the up-and-coming artistes who will have nothing to do with Highlife music because they believe it is outmoded, musician Kwabena Kwabena has a piece of advice for them—they are making a mistake.

The Highlife icon who has been doing music for close to 20 years believes the genre is the key to creating hit songs; evergreen ones as such.

Kwabena Kwabena is certain they cannot go wrong with Highlife, which is still the foundation of Ghana music, even though some see it as old-school.

In a recent chat with Graphic Showbiz, Kwabena Kwabena explained that it is unfortunate most young artistes prefer other music styles to Highlife when many of today’s smash hits are deeply rooted in Highlife, showcasing its timelessness and relevance.

According to the Aso hit maker, sticking to Highlife is the key to unlocking the door to remain relevant and bag bangers.

“Highlife is thriving, and if you want hits, stick to the genre. Some people may think it is old-school, but many of Ghana’s top hits, such as Fameye’s Very Soon, King Paluta’s Makoma, KiDi’s Lomo Lomo and even Stonebwoy’s Jejereje are all rooted in Highlife,” he explained.

Reflecting on his 20-year-old music career, Kwabena Kwabena acknowledged how humbling the experience has been and emphasised the importance of his fans’ unwavering support throughout the years.

“I am humbled, honestly. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Almighty God and to my fans all over the world for their support over the years,” he noted.

He added that staying relevant all this time is his biggest reward. For him, maintaining a lasting presence and impact is his greatest achievement.

“Being in the industry for close to two decades is my biggest reward. Next year marks 20 years and staying relevant all this time is the greatest gift God has given me,” he said.

Reflecting on Funny Face’s struggles, he expressed deep empathy.

Kwabena Kwabena suffered after endorsing NPP – Manager https://www.adomonline.com/kwabena-kwabena-suffered-after-endorsing-npp-manager/ Sat, 17 Aug 2024 01:17:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435126 Nana Poku Ashis, the manager of Ghanaian musician Kwabena Kwabena, has pushed back against claims made by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, that artiste Kwabena Kwabena’s career flourished after endorsing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Ashis labelled Okraku-Mantey’s comments as “vague,” arguing that the artist actually suffered significant setbacks after aligning himself with the party in an interview with Ghanaweb.

According to him, while Kwabena Kwabena’s initial support for the NPP in 2008 did not negatively impact his career, the tide turned after the party’s loss in the 2012 elections.

He continued that the artist faced considerable backlash from fans, particularly those affiliated with opposition parties. This backlash led to a decline in his popularity, social media attacks, and even threats to boycott his shows.

“He was victimized in a lot of circumstances,” Ashis explained, noting that some fans felt betrayed by the singer’s political stance.

As a result, Kwabena Kwabena’s show attendance dwindled, and his career took a hit.

Despite these challenges, Ashis emphasized that Kwabena Kwabena continued to push forward on his own, hoping for support from the NPP after their 2016 electoral victory. However, this support never materialized, leaving the artist to struggle independently.

Ashis criticized Okraku-Mantey for taking credit for Kwabena Kwabena’s success, stating that any growth in the artist’s career was due to his own hard work, not political affiliations. “Why are you trying to take credit for something you didn’t do? He rather got backlash after endorsing the NPP.

He had to work his way up,” Ashis argued.

He also clarified that Kwabena Kwabena’s endorsement of the NPP was not motivated by financial gain but by genuine support for Nana Akufo-Addo. Going forward, Ashis asserted that any future political engagements would be strictly business.

Currently, Kwabena Kwabena has distanced himself from politics and is focusing on his music career.

He is promoting his new single “Fakye Me,” which is part of his upcoming gospel EP, “God of Restoration.”

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Mark said some people have endorsed political parties but was strong in their field of work.

Citing Kwabena Kwabena as an example, he said the ‘Asor’ crooner’s music career became more vibrant even after he endorsed Nana Akufo-Addo as Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“Kwabena Kwabena became a bigger artiste after ‘NPP Wo Soro’ [song]. Yea, Kwabena Kwabena became more popular after endorsing Candidate Akufo-Addo. So if you have your issues don’t blame them on the political parties. If you manage yourself well, position yourself well as a brand, [you will thrive].

The Deputy Minister who contributed to the discussion on the impact of creatives in partisan politics was analysing how being involved affects creatives.

He also mentioned how a company he used to work with before getting into politics are still willing to do business with him.

“I spoke with some companies that I used to work with. I said you guys because I am now in politics you wouldn’t want to work with me. They said when I am done with politics, I should come and that they are ready to still do business with me,” he said.

Kwabena Kwabena first endorsed Akufo-Addo in 2008 with ‘Number One’, which was used as a campaign song for the NPP.

He continued with his support for Akufo-Addo in the 2012 and 2016 elections.

In the meantime, Kwabena Kwabena has said that he is done with politics. He told TV3 in an interview that he does not want to be involved in politics again.

“I am completely out of politics. I am Ghanaian,” he said when asked if he would campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in this year’s general election.

Kwabena Kwabena is currently out with a song titled ‘Fakye Me’ featuring Obaapa Christy. This is taken off his upcoming gospel EP titled ‘God of Restoration.”

I don’t have a problem with Kuami Eugene’s ‘Highlife King’ accolade – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/i-dont-have-a-problem-with-kuami-eugenes-highlife-king-accolade-kwabena-kwabena/ Thu, 04 Jul 2024 22:46:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2417945 Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has stated he is not worried about the ‘highlife king’ status that was conferred on Kuami Eugene during the 2019 Ghana Music Awards.

Asked if his decision not to be involved with the award scheme stems from the Kuami Eugene crowing moment, he answered in the negative.

Kwabena Kwabena who has resolved not to take part in the TGMA again said in an interview with DJ Slim

“As a matter of fact, I didn’t have any issue with what the legend Amakye Dede did and with time he has come to speak to what actually transpired and everything that happened around the whole ceremony.

And for me, I am an artiste, I enjoy music. I don’t care about who is king or who is queen or who is a linguist. I only care about the art and its beauty. Kwame Eugene is a fine artiste and he has done some really great pieces out there. He is exciting and all of that. I can’t have a problems with the fact that Nana Amakye decided to crown him. I don’t have a problem with that,” he said.

In 2023, highlife legend Amakye Dede said in an interview on Asaase Radio that he was forced to confer the said title on Kuami Eugene during the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards after the latter had won the Highlife Artiste of the Year award.

“Although I did that [crowned him], it was not my will to do that but they forced me to crown the boy. That’s the reason I did that,” he said.

“Even the crown they gave to me to put on his head, I gave it to someone to place it somewhere. But later, they gave it back to me to adorn him with it,” Amakye Dede further stated in the interview.

This is the first time Amakye Dede has passed a comment on this matter even though his manager Kwasi Aboagye of Peace FM gave the same explanation when the incident happened in 2019.

In one of Kwasi’s reports, he intimated that Kiki Banson, a member of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Board and a coordinator of the event at the time, was the one that asked Amakye Dede to carry out the exercise on Kuami Eugene.

For a lot of people, Kuami Eugene, although a hardworking and promising highlife artiste, was not ripe for the crown. They considered the act as premature and injurious to the future of the burgeoning highlife musician.

Speaking to JoyNews, Kuami Eugene refuted the rumours that the act was planned, adding that, it rather served as a blessing to him.

Artistes should employ poets for their lyrics – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/artistes-should-employ-poets-for-their-lyrics-kwabena-kwabena/ Tue, 10 Oct 2023 13:44:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2304113 Ghanaian highlife musician and songwriter, Kwabena Kwabena, believes that poets have a place in the music industry.

For many who consider poetry is a sibling to music, this might be a confirmation to the theory. Kwabena said on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM that poets are adept at the use of language which is the soul of lyricism.

He told the host Kwame Dadzie that these lyrics could then be put to music by top liners or composers.

According to Kwabena Kwabena, the industry could accommodate these poets and have collaborations with them.

“Musicians should start to appreciate people who have various talents. There are people who are good producers, there are people who are good composers, there are people who write good stories. I must admit, we need to start employing poets; people who can write or put together beautiful English pieces, then we can get composers to actually produce the melody,” he said.

He added that, if songwriting is not appreciated as a craft, the standard of songwriting in Ghana will go down.

Kwabena Kwabena also intimated that from his observation songs by Africans written in English usually lack depth.

He said African musicians communicate better in their songs when they perform in their native languages.

For his part, a poet and playwright, Chief Moomen said he had started writing scores for his plays; a proof that it is possible for poets to write lyrics for songs.

He said in his case, because he is not musically inclined, he would usually record the melody on on his phone when he gets them, send to his personal music producer to fine tune it, and later add the words or poetry to it.

Yvonne Nelson is too young to write a memoir – Kwabena Kwabena’s manager [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/yvonne-nelson-is-too-young-to-write-a-memoir-kwabena-kwabenas-manager-video/ Mon, 26 Jun 2023 12:06:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2264666 The manager of renowned highlife artiste, Kwabena Kwabena, Nana Poku Ashis, has expressed doubt regarding Yvonne Nelson’s ability to write a book about her relatively young life.

The actress made headlines for an entire week following the release of her memoir, titled “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” in June 2023.

Yvonne Nelson’s memoir delves into various aspects of her life, including her childhood experiences, educational background, struggles in the entertainment industry, and the lingering question of her father’s identity.

Notably, the book also reveals details about her past relationship with rapper Sarkodie, shedding light on a significant event where she underwent an abortion after conceiving a child with the music star from Tema in 2010.

Responding to the revelations contained within the memoir, Nana Poku Ashis expressed his scepticism, stating that Yvonne Nelson had penned the book prematurely.

He argued that she lacked the necessary life experiences, suggesting that memoirs are typically written by individuals in their late 60s or 70s.

Additionally, he emphasized that memoirs were meant for those who had lived a full and eventful life, made significant mistakes, and gained wisdom from their life journeys.

“Now we will scrutinize everything she does and blow the trumpet even when it is not necessary. Some people will think she wants to portray herself as a saint, so the scrutiny will never stop,” Nana Poku Ashis stated during an interview with Mike 2 on Adom FM‘s weekend show, Entertainment Hall.

Yvonne Nelson’s memoir has ignited a debate among fans and critics alike, with differing opinions on the appropriateness of her sharing personal details at this stage of her life.

While some applaud her transparency and courage to discuss delicate subjects, others, like Nana Poku Ashis, questioned her readiness to delve into the realm of memoir writing.

Many children have distant relationships with their fathers due to their mothers – Kwabena Kwabena [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/many-children-have-distant-relationships-with-their-fathers-due-to-their-mothers-kwabena-kwabena-video/ Mon, 19 Jun 2023 13:39:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2261839 Ghanaian High Life singer Kwabena Kwabena has challenged the perception that some fathers are unwilling to have relationships with their children due to responsibilities.

In an interview on Hitz FM, the acclaimed artiste said some mothers, in their desire to be the favoured parent, may inadvertently create barriers between fathers and their children, disregarding the potential consequences.

Kwabena Kwabena, who himself is a father, expressed deep love and affection for his children, highlighting that it is unlikely for any parent to harbour hatred towards their offspring.

He asserts that when a man appears to have a strained relationship or absence from his children’s lives, it is often influenced by the actions of the mothers, accounting for approximately 90 per cent of such situations.

The singer goes on to explain how mothers sometimes compete with fathers for their children’s affection, raising questions about why both parents cannot equally share the role of being cherished.

“I am a father and how I feel within me about the children I have and how I love them, I don’t think anyone hates their own children. If you find any man in any situation where he looks as if he doesn’t have a relationship with his children, or he is not around, mostly 90 per cent is caused by the mothers,” he said.

Drawing from personal experience, Kwabena Kwabena reveals that he, like many others, initially held negative sentiments towards his father until he matured and established a meaningful connection with him.

He also emphasizes that women often fail to recognize the long-term impact of such dynamics.

Reflecting on his upbringing, the musician candidly admitted that his mother, at some point, realized her mistake in prioritizing her desires above fostering a healthy relationship between him and his father.

“At a point they compete with the men to become the favourites. You are both parents so why would you want to be their favourite? We all grew up not liking our fathers, it was until I grew up that I developed a relationship with my father. And women don’t see the impact of these things… My mum was guilty until she released that she was wrong by wanting to get everything for herself.”

I’m not gay; sexuality is not something you learn – Kwabena Kwabena  https://www.adomonline.com/im-not-gay-sexuality-is-not-something-you-learn-kwabena-kwabena/ Tue, 30 May 2023 15:33:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2255008 Highlife crooner Kwabena Kwabena has responded to suspicions about his sexuality.

While some people have interpreted his new style of dressing as he being gay, the ‘Fingers’ singer thinks those comments reek of ignorance.

Speaking to blogger Zionfelix, he said “being gay or not being gay is not like an association. Just as you have sexual feelings for women, those who do that (gays) are in a state, they have feelings for men. But I don’t don’t have any feelings for men.

“Sexuality is a state. It is not something you learn. It is either you are attracted to the same sex or not. There are people who are attracted to the same sex. But I am not. But it doesn’t make me somebody who has a problem with somebody in that state. But to put on record, I have three kids and I had them with women,” he further explained.

He said it is very wrong for people to conclude he is gay because of how he dresses.

“There are individuals whose physical appearances look like the opposite sex but when you go into their sexuality, you would be surprised to know they are not what you think they are,” he noted.

Kwabena added that some people like stereotyping others but that will not deter him from experimenting and being daring with fashion.

Reiterating that he is not gay, he said in the past he was perceived to be a womaniser so it is surprising that some people have suddenly turned around to label him as gay.

The fashion that was in vogue in the 1970s, he says, was the inspiration for the outfit he wore to the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

“Nowadays I watch James Brown, Jimmy Hendrix, Senior Eddie Donkor, Obuoba JA Adofo and the 70s pop culture and they dress to strike you. What was unfortunate [about people’s comment on my outfit] was sexualising it,” he said.

Kwabena added that red carpet sessions of award schemes are for celebrities to make statements with their outfits and that he believes he achieved his objective with what he wore.

Why I ‘regret’ marrying young – Kwabena Kwabena opens up https://www.adomonline.com/why-i-regret-marrying-young-kwabena-kwabena-opens-up/ Mon, 29 May 2023 13:02:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2254360 Renowned Ghanaian Highlife singer, Kwabena Kwabena, says marrying in his 20s stole precious years of his life.

Speaking in an interview with Zionfelix recently, the Aso hitmaker said he should have concentrated on his young and blossoming career at the time other than settling down.

“The irony of the whole thing is, I played a role in stealing my whole life away from me at a point.

“The reason why I am saying that is as at 26 and 27, around that time, I felt that what I should have done was to focus on my career and not allow any external force to derail my train,” he said.

Despite what he believes were missed opportunities to enjoy his life at the time, Kwabena Kwabena said he is happy to reclaim such lost moments now.

Kwabena Kwabena pointed out that he is now older and wiser to understand the importance of seizing opportunities and not taking anything for granted.

“I feel I was a young guy around that time, but by God’s grace, God has given me the chance again to have a second shot of my life.

“That’s the reason why I am not taking things for granted because around that time, there were other people who have become casualties or were involved, and so I don’t want to make it look as if I was a great person and somebody was bad.

“I feel that at a point in my life, I should have focused on my career more than any other thing. I shouldn’t have married then,” Kwabena Kwabena said.

While others may wallow in misery, the Fa Me Saa singer prefers to capitalise on difficult circumstances of being heartbroken to write his best love songs.

In an earlier interview with George Quaye on Showbiz a-Z in January, Kwabena Kwabena said he channels his energy into writing beautiful songs when he is heartbroken.

“The best time for me to write great songs is when I am heartbroken. So I love it. I love those moments”, he revealed.

In an interview on Adom FM’s weekend Entertainment Hall show, Ashis disclosed that the Adult Music hitmaker didn’t want to have anything to do with the nominations for the prestigious awards.

Announcing that they didn’t file for nominations for this year’s event, Ashis said Kwabena Kwabena thinks there are challenges with Charterhouse, organisers of VGMA, when it comes to nominating musicians aptly.

“We didn’t file for VGMA. For some reason, Kwabena Kwabena said some comments in the previous years, so he just wanted to stay away. He says some things weren’t going well.”

Ashis, meanwhile, further explained that Kwabena Kwabena didn’t appreciate the gesture that musicians must submit works before they get nominations.

“Looking for the artiste and writing emails and things didn’t sit well with him. He doesn’t believe that as an artiste he is not supposed to file, and he thinks the older musicians are not given the privilege.”

When asked if Kwabena Kwabena will no longer patronise the national awards scheme, Ashis declined, adding that, when things go right, his artiste will show up in the future.

“He wants to stay back and soon when he thinks things are done well he will be back,” he told the host, Mike 2.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Kwabena released his 6th studio album Fa Me Saa on November 11, 2022 – a 14-track album comprising Ghana’s prime genre, Highlife and Afrobeats among other elements that make it certified.

The best time for me to write great songs is when I’m heartbroken – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/the-best-time-for-me-to-write-great-songs-is-when-im-heartbroken-kwabena-kwabena/ Mon, 30 Jan 2023 12:15:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2210421 While most people get drenched in pain in times of heartbreak, highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena would rather make gains from such situations.

On Showbiz A-Z with George Quaye, last Saturday, the crooner revealed how he channels his energy into writing beautiful songs when he is heartbroken.

“The best time for me to write great songs is when I am heartbroken. So I love it. I love those moments”, he revealed.

“When it [love] is all rosy, you don’t write great songs,” he added.

According to the ‘Aso’ hitmaker, sometimes one has to go through the roughness of certain things to give them an experience or an idea of what reality really is.

Kwabena Kwabena was highlighting the inspiration behind the great love songs he has in his repertoire.

The musician, widely celebrated for his unmatched vocal prowess and love messages has been through a number of unsuccessful relationships, particularly two broken marriages.

At the moment he says he is single and still searching for a partner.

About a year ago, he said on ‘The Delay Show’ that he had never fallen in love before.

“I have never fallen in love. I have never experienced love,” the ‘Fingers’ singer said.

“I know what love is, but I haven’t experienced it yet. Talking about marriage and not experiencing love, I will say, I was too young. I should have paid attention to my career and my life before choosing a partner who can help,” he added.

In the meantime, Kwabena who released his sixth studio album, ‘Fa Me Saa’ in November 2022 is gearing up for a pre-Valentine show. The show dubbed ‘Love Night’ will be held on February 11, 2023, at the National Theatre.

Tickets are available at Joy FM, Nallem – Accra Mall, Airport Shell, Koala & Frankies and Ahoom Store at Palm Wine Junction.

Veteran highlife artiste Agya Koo Nimo turns 92; marks birthday in style https://www.adomonline.com/veteran-highlife-artiste-agya-koo-nimo-turns-92-marks-birthday-in-style/ Sun, 29 Jan 2023 16:10:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2210177 Age is just a number, and 92 never looked this good so far as veteran highlife musician, Agya Koo Nimo, is in mention.

The highlife doyen, known in real life as Daniel Amponsah, could pass for a 70-year-old, despite turning 92 some few days ago.

In what other way can he be celebrated if not for his successors giving him testimonies of the impact he has made in their lives, while they share in his grace.

That is exactly what fellow highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena sought to achieve when he carried the mantle of celebrating Agya Koo Nimo in grand style.

Not only did he visit the legend at his residence in Kumasi, he, together with his team, organised a feast for merry making.

The organizers did not lose touch of tradition, for which they included an adowa band that ushered them in glory.

Agya Koo Nimo was all-smiles during an interaction with Kwabena Kwabena.

He has etched his position as Ghana’s foremost exponent of acoustic guitar highlife and folklore with a gamut of more than 100 songs to his credit.

In this light, he was presented a citation of honour for his immense contribution to music through his unique singing and dancing skills.

He was also presented with a guitar-shaped cake to symbolise the melodies he diffused into the world which has earned him the tag as a legend.

1992 constitution must be overhauled – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/1992-constitution-must-be-overhauled-kwabena-kwabena/ Thu, 29 Sep 2022 16:27:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2167270 Ghanaian singer George Kwabena Adu, popularly known as Kwabena Kwabena, says Ghana needs a constitutional overhaul to progress as a nation.

In an interview on Connect FM, the ‘Tuamudaa’ hitmaker stated that the 1992 constitution should be amended before “we can develop as a nation.”

Kwabena Kwabena said: “Our 1992 constitution, which was drafted and used for 30 years, will compel political parties not to be truthful to Ghanaians. If you look at the beneficiaries, salaries, incentives and other things like meeting allowances, this is not service.

“It is not service to the nation, but rather the nation serving you. We have to sit down as Ghanaians and look into that. The 1992 constitution needs serious amendment. That’s my opinion.“

According to Kwabena Kwabena, Ghanaians need truthful and devoted people ready to serve the country selflessly. And amending the constitution is one step towards achieving these results.

He added that, with the current constitution, even if Jesus Christ becomes president, he won’t get ministers to support him.

“If we can amend the 1992 constitution, we would get truthful people who will truly serve our nation,” Kwabena Kwabena continued, “because with this constitution, even if Jesus Christ becomes our president, he won’t get ministers to support him.”

According to Kwabena Kwabena, his sentiments towards governance should not be an impediment to his career as a musician.

He added that his political stand is neutral and will rally behind whomever he thinks can help develop Ghana.

Don’t play around married women, it’s dangerous – Kwabena Kwabena to men https://www.adomonline.com/dont-play-around-married-women-its-dangerous-kwabena-kwabena-to-men/ Tue, 26 Jul 2022 15:15:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2142237 Ghanaian highlife musician, Kwabena Kwabena, has warned single men to desist from forming any close relations with married women.

According to him, this is the first cardinal rule every young man should follow once they step out into the world on their own. Noting that doing the contrary equals spelling your doom.

“To single men, please take this advice. I beg of you when you start life, be very careful. Don’t befriend someone’s wife. It is dangerous. Don’t take a married woman as your friend. She is not your friend. Her friend is her husband. Period,” the musician told 3News

ALSO READ:

He emphasised that “as a young man, when you start living, and when your female friend gets married, she ceases to be your friend. She becomes an acquaintance. Her friend is her husband. Don’t make her your close friend because it will bring you problems.

“Even if you see a woman in a serious relationship with someone else, give them space. Someone’s girlfriend cannot be your girlfriend,” Kwabena Kwabena added

Meanwhile, Kwabena Kwabena, who has married two times, dated a few times, sings about love says he has never fallen in love before.

“I have never fallen in love. I have never experienced love,” Kwabena Kwabena said. The ‘Tokro’ singer was having a conversation with Delay on The Delay Show.

KBKB explained that he only preaches love in his songs because he knows how it feels. According to him, no one has ever made him experience love, even though he has been in two marriages.

“I don’t think I have fallen in love before. I know what it takes to fall in love, and I know what it is to fall in love because I know what love is. I will be able to tell when I am in love,” the adult music singer told Delay.

He continued that “I know what love is, but I haven’t experienced it yet. Talking about marriage and not experiencing love, I will say, I was too young. I should have paid attention to my career and my life before choosing a partner who can help.”

There is no record label in Ghana – Kwabena Kwabena   https://www.adomonline.com/there-is-no-record-label-in-ghana-kwabena-kwabena/ Tue, 07 Jun 2022 17:58:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2123352 Ghanaian singer Kwabena Kwabena says he can speak on authority that there is no record label in Ghana.

According to him, he can put it on the record that, no corporation which identifies itself as a record label in Ghana, has the right to be identified as such.

Citing his reasons, the Tokro hitmaker said the practice of some “record labels” in Ghana does not fall in line with what constitutes a record label globally.

To put on record, there is no record label in Ghana, he said in an interview on Asaase FM.

When Kwabena Kwabena was further queried about Lynx Entertainment’s presence in Ghana, he said: It’s someone’s business, I wouldn’t want to comment on that.

What actually constitutes a record label there is none in Ghana. Record labels see talent, know the potential of the talent, build and groom the talent and make sure they get to the top, else they won’t touch it [the talent].

Record labels invest for a period of about five years to see their returns, he explained.

Talking about the music business in Ghana, Kwabena Kwabena said unlike the other parts of the world where record labels manage and provide everything that will make an artiste feel at ease, it is quite the opposite in Ghana.

People do music here like buy and sell… like selling tomatoes for a profit. That is not music and record label. Here people come out saying I have bought him that and all that, if you are a record label, you can invest in an artiste and gain nothing, and you don’t come screaming because you are a record label, he said.

The Tokro singer, who made the revelation recently on Angel FM‘s Anopa Bosuo show, said he has hope of finding the one.

“I have not given up on love or marriage, I will marry again, the fact that it didn’t work out doesn’t mean I should close my mind to it, of course not, I will marry again,” he told host of the show.

In an answer to how soon he will remarry, Kwabena Kwabena, also known as KBKB, said, “I can’t tell but it will be soon. I will marry again, it’s just that in this our part of the world, it is difficult to find genuine love if you are a celebrity.”

I can never be attracted to another man – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/i-can-never-be-attracted-to-another-man-kwabena-kwabena/ Mon, 15 Nov 2021 16:08:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2044053 Legendary Highlife artiste, Kwabena Kwabena, has opined that he can never see himself conforming to the actions of the LGBTQ community.

Using himself as a reference, the artiste, born George Kwabena Adu, said he can never be attracted to a person of the same sex.

His remarks come at a time when the conversation surrounding the minority sexual community has heightened, especially as members are demanding the legalisation of their activities.

In recent times, Ghanaians have also suggested Kwabena Kwabena was gay after he adopted a lifestyle of wearing petite shorts and nail polish.

Debunking such claims in an interview with Lexis Bill on Joy Drive, he categorically stated that he is only attracted to women.

He added that nothing in this world can ever make him look at a man in a sexual light.

“I am a man and I am attracted to women. I can never be attracted to another man. It is not something within my DNA,’’ he reiterated.

To him, sexuality is a matter of hormonal and genetic engineering.

“I don’t know how people take sexuality, as for me I see sexuality to be hormonal and genetic, if anybody has a form of attraction that’s the person. Me I’m hormonal and I am attracted to a woman,’’ he said.

He again argued that the continuous conversation and debating on LGBTQ+ activities is rather promoting their activities in the country.

“Continuous discussing on LGBTQ+ issues rather promote the agenda as against the general societal disapproval of it,” he added.

He was quick to add that he does not find anything wrong with individual decisions on the matter.

Sex sells – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/sex-sells-kwabena-kwabena/ Fri, 12 Nov 2021 20:48:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2043290 Sensational Highlife artiste, Kwabena Kwabena, has made a claim that everyone loves sex and that is why he sings about it.

The highlife crooner made the assertion in an interview with Andy Dosty on Joy Entertainment’s Daybreak Hitz on Thursday, November 11.

Notable among his impressive repertoire include controversial songs ‘Adult Music’ featuring Samini and ‘Tokro’, both of which he received backlashes for upon release.

Critics argued that the songs are completely sexually suggestive. However, Kwabena Kwabena seems to turn a deaf ear to such criticisms as he readies himself for the release of his upcoming album ‘Fa Me Saa’, which is a sequel to Adult Music.

Defending his stance on his content creation, he stated “sex sells, and everybody loves sex. Period!”

Prior to the assertion, he had described himself saying “I am a poet, an artiste, and I describe scenarios and talk about scenarios and be able to be creative”

On Friday, November 12, Kwabena Kwabena released ‘Konkonsa’ ft Shatta Wale, a single off the much anticipated ‘Fa Me Saa’ album, which he describes as a work of art that will sensitise listeners and fans about the spirit of contentment.

Look forward to a good collaboration between Highlife and Dancehall, and hopefully this won’t be about sex, but will definitely sell.

I no longer use a mobile phone – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/why-i-no-longer-use-a-mobile-phone-kwabena-kwabena/ Mon, 18 Oct 2021 12:09:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2029791 In this day and age when most people simply cannot do without their mobile phones, it can be surprising to find someone who is willing to do without such a communication gadget.

And it is even more amazing that someone such as Highlife crooner Kwabena Kwabena is letting go of his mobile phone.

His reason? He doesn’t use a phone anymore because he wants to have peace of mind. In fact, he doesn’t want any trouble.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz recently, the Aso hitmaker stated that for the last couple of weeks, he had stopped using a phone because he wants to stay away from all the stress in the system these days.

“My sister, I don’t use a phone anymore, I need a clear head and I need a break from all the plenty ‘wahala’ around so anyone who wants to contact me does so through my manager, Nana Poku Ashes,” he said.

Away from that, Kwabena Kwabena stated that contrary to perceptions, he is still one of the most relevant artistes around. “I have always been relevant since I came into the industry, churning out hit after hit, if this is not relevant, tell me what is it?

He added that he is about to release his sixth studio album titled Fa Me Saa. “I am having an album listening and birthday bash on October 17 to interact and have fun with my fans, as well as those who have supported the Kwabena Kwabena brand all these years,” he said.

Kwabena Kwabena also has international acts on the album in the persons of Orti and Passi who are both French artistes.

“Shatta Wale and I did a song titled Konkonsa, he has been talking Highlife these days so it was good to have him do a collaboration on a Highlife song,” he stated.

Kwabena Kwabena released a single off the album titled Kwadede in May this year and he says the feedback has been amazing. “Everybody loves Kwadede, it is like a household chorus now, it is really, really doing well,” he said.

Asked what his fans should expect from the album, this is what Kwabena Kwabena had to say. “It’s been a while since I gave my fans a full album, I have taken my time to put together this piece, the album is for music lovers.

“If you know what a Kwabena Kwabena album entails, I will say this is my best album recorded yet. This is my best work ever.

“You simply have to listen to the album, I keep saying that it is my best album ever and I mean it. I don’t know what the theme of my seventh album will be but I insist that Fa Me Saa is my best album yet,” he said in answer to whether the album will be like his previous albums.
