Speaking on The Career Trail programme on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, KSM criticized the growing trend of political alignment in the media, which he believes undermines the core values of the profession.

“Unfortunately, in Ghana, journalism has become politicized. Are you an NPP journalist or an NDC journalist? That’s the kind of thing we’re seeing now, and it’s unfortunate,” he said.

KSM explained that this politicization compromises the integrity of journalism, often covering up the truth instead of revealing it.

He further noted that one of the biggest problems facing the profession is the tendency to chase sensationalism rather than meaningful content.

“The problem is that it’s easier to go for the sensational. It’s easier to talk about petty, mediocre things. And sadly, there’s an audience for that,” he observed.

“Many journalists, especially bloggers, choose that path because that’s where they get attention,” he added.

According to KSM, this shift toward click-driven content has contributed to the cheapening of journalism.

“Journalism has become cheap and sensational, not factual,” he emphasized.

He also attributed part of the issue to the rise of online platforms and social media, where people can freely publish unverified information without accountability.

“With the introduction of online and social media, there’s been a disruption. In order to stay relevant and compete, many feel they must go down that path,” he pointed out.

Despite his concerns, KSM encouraged young people not to be discouraged from entering the field. He urged aspiring journalists to focus on authentic, impactful storytelling that benefits society.

Citing the work of Multimedia journalist Erastus Asare Donkor, KSM said, “There are still brilliant journalists out there. Look at Erastus Asare, look at the kind of work he is doing. He is a journalist. It is just amazing.”

He advised upcoming professionals to consciously distinguish themselves by upholding truth and purpose in their work.

“Make a conscious effort to set yourself apart. Focus on the kind of journalism that uplifts and informs, not the other way round,” he concluded.

I found TV to be exciting – KSM on shift from radio https://www.adomonline.com/i-found-tv-to-be-exciting-ksm-on-shift-from-radio/ Thu, 22 May 2025 12:28:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2537434 Veteran Ghanaian comedian and filmmaker Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has opened up about his transition from radio to television, explaining that it was driven by the more engaging nature of TV.

Speaking on The Career Trail programme on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, KSM revealed that his fascination with television was inspired by his love for late-night talk shows.

“I was addicted to late-night shows, where the host would come on, crack jokes, and then do interviews,” he shared.

Although he had long been interested in television, KSM said the opportunity to break into the medium came when he met Talal Fattal, then CEO of Metro TV.

According to him, their paths crossed after Fattal attended one of his performances at the National Theatre. The two later became friends.

“When I came to Ghana, I still had the love for late-night shows. But it wasn’t until I met Talal Fattal, who was then the owner of Metro TV. He came to the National Theatre to see one of my shows.
We became friends after. In one of our discussions, he was telling me about thinking about introducing a late-night show on Metro TV. Then I told him I can do it,” he recalled.

That discussion marked the beginning of what would become the widely successful show Thank God It’s Friday, with KSM as host.

He revealed that in the early days of the show, he was juggling both radio and television.

“When we started, I was still doing radio on Vibe and also Thank God It’s Friday on TV. I was doing the two back-to-back for a long time until I finally gave up on radio and stayed on TV.
I found Thank God It’s Friday more engaging and more fun. So I said, why not just concentrate on this? And that is why I left radio for TV,” he recounted.

Over time, KSM rebranded the show into what is now known as The KSM Show.

“Those who go way back know it used to be Thank God It’s Friday. Eventually, I rebranded it to The KSM Show,” he added.

When asked what has kept him going since 2002, KSM attributed his longevity and success to his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

“I think people find me relatable. I can host a young person and make them feel at ease. Then the next guest could be the vice president, and we’d have a relaxed, fun conversation.
I think I have that magic of making people comfortable enough to open up and be themselves,” he said.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of longevity in building a successful career.

“For every career path, one of the key ingredients to success is longevity. If you’re able to consistently deliver something that remains relevant over time, then you’ve achieved something meaningful.
Since 2002, The KSM Show is still on air,” KSM reflected.

I lied about my radio experience to get hired – KSM https://www.adomonline.com/i-lied-about-my-radio-experience-to-get-hired-ksm/ Thu, 22 May 2025 12:16:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2537424 Veteran Ghanaian comedian and filmmaker Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has revealed how he landed his first job in radio by fibbing about prior experience.

Speaking on The Career Trail programme on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, KSM admitted that after returning to Ghana from the United States, he struggled to break into the film industry and turned his attention to radio instead.

“When I came to Ghana and wasn’t getting lucky with the film thing, radio had just started. Joy FM was then the only private radio station operating in Ghana. I decided to go into radio,” KSM said.

He explained that his love for talk radio, developed during his time in the U.S., inspired him to pursue the opportunity.

“I like talk radio. It’s one of my favorite things. Whether it’s intelligent or funny talk, I love it. Back in the U.S., there was a particular talk station I always listened to; from my house to my car, I was always tuned in,” he recalled.

When KSM heard Vibe FM was looking for new programs, he approached the station and was asked if he had any radio experience. He lied, claiming he had hosted talk shows in New York, which impressed the manager.

“I wanted the job. I didn’t think if I told him I had no radio experience I would have gotten it. I wanted them to feel that if they let me go, they had lost something,” he explained.

Despite the lie, KSM was confident he could deliver on the job once given the chance.

“I knew I could do it, so I wasn’t scared to take that risk,” he noted.

However, KSM cautioned young people against lying to get jobs today, emphasizing that verification is now easier.

“To the youth, it’s not a risk I would encourage you to take, unless you know you can deliver. These days, if you say you’re a radio host, they’ll ask which station, and it’s easy to verify. But back in those days, it wasn’t like that,” he advised.

That bold move marked a turning point in his career. His debut show, The Talk Shop, was a big hit and launched his successful radio broadcasting journey.

KSM sends strong message to Aglow over prayers for ECG https://www.adomonline.com/ksm-sends-strong-message-to-aglow-over-prayers-for-ecg/ Wed, 21 May 2025 10:44:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2536702

Renowned satirist and media personality, Kweku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has taken a firm stance against the recent actions of the Aglow Women’s Prayer Group, who organized prayer sessions for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) amid the country’s persistent power supply issues.

KSM dismissed the initiative as a misapplication of faith, adding that the problems facing ECG are not spiritual in nature but rather deeply rooted in technical failures, poor leadership, and operational inefficiencies.

According to him, the real issue lies with power generation and the country’s inability to manage and maintain essential infrastructure—not a lack of divine intervention.

He pointed out that the country’s power systems have been neglected over the years due to political optics, where even scheduled maintenance was avoided to prevent politically damaging outages.

This, he said, has significantly deteriorated ECG’s capacity, leaving vital equipment in poor condition and unable to meet the increasing demand for electricity.

Referencing reports, KSM highlighted that ECG reportedly imported over 2,000 containers of essential equipment, out of which more than 1,000 cannot be accounted for.

He questioned why such massive losses and internal mismanagement were not being addressed through investigation and accountability but instead met with prayer rallies.

KSM argued that while he respects the role of religion and spirituality in individual lives, it must not replace logic and planning—especially in matters of national infrastructure.

He further called out the Aglow group for focusing their public image primarily on spiritual activities like prayer meetings, rather than showcasing the impact of their other developmental efforts.

KSM encouraged the group to redirect their platform to highlight women who have benefited from their ICT and vocational training initiatives, noting that such efforts bring greater value and inspiration to Ghanaian society.

He asserted that if issues such as theft, procurement fraud, and poor technical management within ECG are not addressed, prayer alone will not stop the blackouts or fix the national grid.

KSM cautions industry players against drug use  https://www.adomonline.com/ksm-cautions-industry-players-against-drug-use/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 16:31:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2376206 Satirist Kwaku Sintim Misa popularly known as KSM, has advised creatives against the use of drugs.

Although he reveals that the biggest push for drug use among talents in the creative industry is the ability of the drugs to evoke wild creative ideas, he cautions that it is dangerous to rely on drugs for any creative activity.

“When you get on any drug, it can give you some amazing energy and some creative geniuses that can give you the boost. However, trust me, if you rely on the natural, and you give yourself enough time, you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish. The deception is that that one gives you an immediate thing that you can do, and you think this is the way out. But the more you do it, the more you destroy that capacity. So you can be the greatest creative and everything but later on you realize that it brings you down again, very, very fast. So my advice is, don’t depend on any external high to get creative because it will give you just the boost but you can’t depend on that boost,” he said.

He also admitted to using drugs in the past but explained he did so to see if that could really enhance his creative abilities.

“I did it to see how best it can help me to be creative and the ideas that I got were all very wild and to me wow ‘this thing is amazing, it can give you ideas and things’. But then once it starts dying down then you realise these are not wild ideas, these were stupid things. But at that time you don’t care. For me it doesn’t work.

I believe in what they call the natural high. Creative who stay natural and depend on the natural high are always more successful and they have longevity than those who depend on the quick high thing,” he noted.

The venerated creative made this revelation in a new Joy News documentary by Joy FM journalist Kwame Dadzie.

In ‘Creative Addictions’, some creatives open up on how they found themselves in such a noose and the effects it has had on them. Experts of psychiatry also share their opinion on what can be done to help people get out of drug addiction.

‘Creative Addictions’, shows tonight on Joy 8:30pm on Joy News, and airs on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM tomorrow. It will also show on Joy Prime tomorrow at 8:30am.

KSM reacts to Bawumia’s ‘trotro mate’ statement https://www.adomonline.com/ksm-reacts-to-bawumias-trotro-mate-statement/ Fri, 09 Feb 2024 20:10:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2353980 Veteran comedian and talk show host, Kwaku Sintim-Misa also known as “KSM” has reacted to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s ‘trotro mate’ statement.

Dr. Bawumia also flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while presenting his vision to Ghanaians said he is currently a bus conductor who is ready to steer the affairs of the country as the main driver if given the nod.

“As Vice President, I am like a driver’s mate but by the Grace of God, if you make me the President I shall be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities” he stated.

Critics have lampooned Dr. Bawumia for running away from the mess created by his government.

They argued that, by describing himself as a ‘mate’ [conductor], he is shifting all the blame on President Akufo-Addo for political expediency.

In support, KSM asked the Vice President why he applied for the position of a mate when the advertised position was for a co-driver.

He wrote:

“The advertised Job Description was for a Co-Driver” – querying further, “so why did you apply for the position of a mate? Either the job description was wrong or the applicant got it wrong.”

Election 2024: Comedian KSM queries Mahama over Christian Council, GBA, others https://www.adomonline.com/election-2024-comedian-ksm-queries-mahama-over-christian-council-gba-others/ Fri, 22 Jul 2022 13:34:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2140825 Ghanaian renowned stand-up comedian, Kwaku Sintim-Missa, popularly known as ‘KSM’, has posed a question to former President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2024 December elections.

According to him, he has noted that some groups that were frequently voicing out during his tenure such as the Christian Council, Ghana Bar Association and the clergy among other politically activated organisations aren’t speaking since power switched hands in 2016.

He has, therefore, asked the NDC leader what would happen if he is re-elected as the President of Ghana and all these groups begin to kick against him.

KSM wrote on Twitter: John Dramani Mahama, if you should become President again, and suddenly the Christian Council, the GBA, the Clergy, etc, etc, find their voices to lambast you again. How will u react? Just asking ?.

Meanwhile, KSM has been part of the tall list of Ghanaians voicing out on political and economic issues.

He goes beyond the ordinary status-quo of focusing solely on comedy by highlighting his key political sentiments in the country.

Earlier, he complained about the electronic transactional levy, aka E-levy. He equally didn’t leave out the high prices of fuel affecting citizens in the country.

The claim that actors are making it all through acting is false – KSM [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/the-claim-that-actors-are-making-it-all-through-acting-is-false-ksm-video/ Mon, 31 May 2021 16:04:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1966909 Ghanaian comedian, KSM, says no person in the Ghanaian entertainment industry survives solely on his/her craft.

According to him, all the flashy cars and assets most of the entertainers show off on social media do not depict the true nature of their lives.

He said it is completely false if any industry player boldly comes out to say they are surviving through acting.

The comedian said he can consider singers but those who are into movies survive through other avenues for cash.

“The claim that they are making it all through acting is false. It can’t be unless they are acting in other markets that I don’t know about.

MORE:

“But if it is in the same Ghana market that they release the same Ghana movies in, and they claim that they have made so much money to be able to buy all these other things, it is totally false,” he said.

KSM said that for creatives to make a lot more money they need to invest in other businesses or have jobs on the side that will help rake in other incomes.

“I tell people that I am happy that I have accomplished a bit but it wasn’t because I was doing one show a year or two shows a year at the National Theatre making people laugh, I couldn’t live on that, no, no way.

“So, if you are creative, please it is best to develop other things you can make money from. Sometimes the singing helps because the music industry is a bit different. But if you are acting or you want to get into comedy and do that full time and live on it, please you are misguided,” KSM said.

Forget Nana Konadu, I still think DKB is the king of comedy in Ghana – KSM https://www.adomonline.com/forget-nana-konadu-still-think-dkb-king-comedy-ghana-ksm/ Wed, 26 Apr 2017 08:13:24 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=93941 Ace comedian and TV show host Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has encouraged DKB not to be feeling blue down by the way his Easter Comedy Show.

DKB received bad press after former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings walked out during his performance at the Easter Comedy show.

The politician called the comedian ‘boring’ and ‘not funny’.

DKB took the criticism right to his ignore and later came out to claims he cried over those comments.

In a interview with the Accra-based Hitz FM, KSM said that DKB cannot be defined by the failure of just one of his shows and added that DKB is one of the very best in the country.

“He has an amazing sense of humour. DKB is a very funny person. He is very hilarious. When he did his show called Point of View, he practically filled up the National Theatre.

His last show I saw at Silverbird, he got a standing ovation. So, he has one bad night and all of a sudden, it’s like he is the worst that ever happened to Ghana comedy, I don’t think it is a fair assessment.”

Lastly, KSM also intimated that DKB took Ghanaian stand-up comedy from the grip of the Nigerian comedians and has raised the bar of the comedy game in Ghana.

“He broke that chain when he went toe to toe with the Nigerian and flawed them.

He went toe to toe with Basket Mouth and flawed him without a doubt. I am begging that let’s not use that one night to judge his string of performances,” he said.
