The call for the near-urgent need for the NDC to find prudent ways of making peace with the wife of the Founder of the party was made by Honourable Dr Rawlings on the occasion of the first anniversary remembrance of the late President Jerry John Rawlings.

Her passionate plea for the elders of the NDC to show greater strength, swallow the hurt of the past, and move forward with a more united front, seems to be echoing well.

According to the daughter of President Rawlings “… I will say the thing that nobody wants to say: let’s bring Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings back into the NDC …”

Supporting the call by Dr Rawlings, Mr Anyidoho said that, it is very telling, that, the daughter of the late Rawlings chose the occasion of remembering her late father to make such a passionate and wise appeal.

“I do not consider Ezanetor to be a frivolous person, and for her to choose the platform of the 1st Anniversary Remembrance of her late father to speak from her heart, speaks volumes about how deeply she feels about the issue,” he said.

According to Mr Anyidoho, he believes that it is only a positively united NDC that can manage to ease the turbulence and raging storms.

“It is about time, pride, hubris, egos, are shelved, for the NDC to go back to basics and rebuild the spirit of comradeship and camaraderie.

“People are saying Konadu left so nobody sacked her. It is true she left on her own volition but nothing stops the NDC from making genuine efforts at reaching out to her. When she left and she was taunted and waved goodbye, what did we expect? Certainly, it was going to be difficult for her to return. If years have gone by and there is a call from no less a person than a daughter of Jerry John Rawlings to reach out to her mother, let the NDC not take it lightly.”

According to Mr Anyidoho, the future of the NDC is more crucial than its past and so if the NDC loses any opportunity to build bridges, the fear that Rawlings continued to express openly about the existential threat facing the party, may hit with a deafening bang.

The 331-page book, launched on Monday by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, also tells the story of Mrs Rawlings’ political journey as a first lady, her advocacy for women empowerment and founding of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

CONGRATS NANA; IT TAKES A WOMAN

Nana Agyeman’s ‘It Takes a Woman’ was successfully launched on Monday. Though it was pre-planned, I, unfortunately, missed it because of an unforeseen delayed return to Ghana from a scheduled medical.

I am happy Nana has taken the bold step to tell her story and it was quite impressive that personalities from across the political divide, business people, traditional authorities, diplomats, friends and sympathizers were present in their numbers to support what undoubtedly was a historic moment.

Let us profit from the truth by taking it beyond mere academic exercises. If we cannot enrich our lives with it, then let us silently know and recognize those who have engaged in so much political, social, economic and judicial mischief and still continue to profit from it.

So much falsehood has been peddled and fed to some of us for so long. I can only hope and pray that we are bold enough or capable of mustering the courage to now facing some hard truths.

I hope this first book of hers carries enough essentials even as we wait for mine and the additional two she intends to write.

Let us use this opportunity and gift to ourselves what she has compiled into a book. I have absolute faith and confidence in her integrity and I know she has a better memory and recollection of events that we have all been through over the years.

Be bold and educate yourself with a copy of the truth.

Congratulations, Dear Nana. – JJR

In her new book, Mrs Rawlings tells the story about the formative years of her outspoken advocacy for women empowerment and Founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

At the launch of the book titled It Takes A Woman, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, admonished young girls to consciously take issues of their welfare seriously.

“When I read the title of the book, It Takes A Woman, I initially thought it was a bit provocative but the more I think about it, the more I realize that yeah it is true. The role and contribution of women in our society have historically been underestimated but in truth, it really is an enormous contribution,” said the Vice President.

Many were surprised when Mr Rawlings, founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), left the party’s congress grounds early perhaps to attend his wife birthday party.

As part of activities to celebrate the big ‘Seven-Zero’, a dinner party was held in honour of Nana Konadu in Accra.

It was an ooh-aah moment when the couple showed their dancing skills to those in attendance.

REVEALED: Nana Konadu bought Adoagyiri lands at GHC 5 per acre (VIDEO) https://www.adomonline.com/revealed-nana-konadu-bought-adoagyiri-lands-at-ghc-5-per-acre-video/ Thu, 12 Jul 2018 13:18:44 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1205371

Chiefs and people of Ntoaso, Adoagyiri, Owuraku and Akuamu in the Eastern Region are accusing former first lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings of unlawfully taking over lands belonging to them.

Head of the Ntoaso Family, Benjamin Dowuona-Ntoaso, speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Morning Show Dwaso Nsem Thursday said Mrs Konadu Rawlings hid behind an executive instrument to grab some 770 acres of land, stretching from the Nsawam Cannery to the Koans Estate in 2013.

Documents available to adomonline.com indicate that the lessee, Nana Konadu, paid GHC 3,850 cedis for the 770-acre land for a lease period of 50 years, translating into about GHC 5.00 per acre.

An additional 135.54 acres of land which was also leased out by the Eastern Regional Lands Commission, covers the entire township of Ntoaso and Owuraku and a greater part of Adoagyiri.

Contributing on the same issue on the same show, the Guantoahene who doubles as the Assemblyman of Adoagyiri, Odiasempa Amoako Ampong I, alleged that Mrs Rawlings has deployed landguards to terrorize the true landowners who are now treated as trespassers.

“The Nsawam cannery came to meet us here. My father and mother were born here. If the government acquired it and if the factory is no longer functioning, how can they sell it, telling us to quit? we won’t take it”, he said.

WAFU Cup success makes up for CHAN disappointment – Konadu https://www.adomonline.com/wafu-cup-success-makes-chan-disappointment-konadu/ Mon, 25 Sep 2017 06:20:08 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=518971 Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu believes winning the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations will make up for their inability to qualify for next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

The Black Stars clobbered arch-rivals Nigeria 4-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, September 24 to defend the title they won four years ago on home soil.

Striker Stephen Sarfo scored just before the half-time whistle when he fired home from inside the box.

Second-half substitute Patrick Razak made a huge impact winning two penalties when he came on in the 57th minute.

The first one was converted by defender Vincent Atingah who was sent off late on after picking up a second yellow card.

Sarfo was on hand to convert the other and register his tournament’s fourth goal to win the Golden Boot award.

In injury time, Winful Cobbinah was teed up by his Hearts of Oak teammate Patrick Razak and he shot into a gaping net from 12-yards out.

Konadu was delighted his troops managed to cap an impressive display at the WAFU tournament with four goals in the final.

“We came into this competition under pressure because we lost to Burkina Faso at home and failed to qualify for the CHAN tournament,” said Konadu.

“That brought a bit of pressure onto the team but when we re-grouped, we made sure that we spoke among ourselves and made it a point that we are coming to this tournament to at least appease for the loss.

“We lost painfully to Burkina and everybody was down, but when this tournament started we came here with the aim that the only thing that can bring the joy back on the face of Ghanaians is to win the tournament.

“We started slowly but we gathered momentum and everything went well for us. We are delighted to lift the title.”

Konadu for the second time running failed his task to qualify the team to the competition.
The former Kotoko Coach was in charge when the team missed out in the competition two years ago after losing to Cote d’Ivoire.
Nana Agyemang in a twitter post advised the former WA All Stars trainer to take a UEFA licence Coaching course to improve his “empty technical mind”.
His comments comes after the Coach had declared not to quit the position as Black Stars B Coach despite failing to qualify the team to the competition in Kenya.
Konadu was regarded as one of the best Coaches in Ghana after leading Kotoko to win the League title, a performance which paved way for him to become the assistant Coach of the Black Stars.
Ghana will now prepare for next month’s WAFU tournament which begins on September 9.

Pictures of the two spotted at the send-off party for the UNAIDS ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Girmay Haile at Labadi Beach Hotel tells the two get on well.

At the programme they were seen taking pictures, dancing, and were heartily engaged in a conversation.

Not long ago it was reported in the Graphic Showbiz that the former first lady had left the auditorium while DKB was performing of the Easter Comedy Show because she found him boring.

Nana Konadu was also not happy about the use of vulgar language by most of the comedians including DKB and advised they put all those factors into consideration when putting together their scripts.

According to DKB, the issue really got him worried but promised to fine-tune his craft and feed Ghanaians with the best of comedy.

In the wake of this, it is expected that DKB wows Nana Konadu at the next comedy show she patronises.

But addressing party supporters at the NDC’s National Headquarters on Thursday, Mr. Bagbin said, the NDP was not a new party but a dead party that belonged to the Dombo tradition.

Mrs. Rawlings he indicated was compelled to break away from the party due to the insults and vilification she suffered from party people. ‘’Our mother has now gone to resurrect a dead party NDP. It was there before; you don’t read. They were called Dombo, that is the NDP.

Kwesi Appiah has announced his 30-man squad for next month games against Ethiopia in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers and in an international friendly matches against Mexico and USA.

The Black Stars will take on Ethiopia in a Cup of Nations qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Kwesi Appiah has called seven locally based players to the national team.

However, the list also saw the omission of some familiar names including Christian Atsu, Mubarak Wakaso, Razak Brimah and Jeffery Schlupp which sparked controversy among several football fandom in the country.

In an interaction with the media, the Wa All Stars and Asante Kotoko coach revealed players are only called to the national team based merit.

“The call-ups are always done on merit, we observe all the players across the club and in Ghana, and we make sure we always chose the best to represent Ghana at every competition.

“As Coaches we always want the best for Ghana and we also want to excel with the team and so we make sure we always choose the best.” He added.

The stylish former First Lady looked stunning dressed in a predominantly lemon green Kente kaba and slit teamed with her signature headgear and a pair of sunglasses.

As she made her way to pay homage to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, each step of the flagbearer of the National Democratic Party(NDP) was greeted with cheers of ‘be bold, be bold’ from the audience in reference to her NDP catch phrase during last year’s elections.

Nana Konadu And OtumfourMrs Rawlings who was in the company of one of her grandchildren could not help but acknowledge the cheers from the crowd with her infectious smiles.

Last Sunday’s Akwasidae was special coming a day after Otumfuo celebrated his birthday on Saturday, May 6.

Audio: Change has come! Mrs Rawlings finds peace https://www.adomonline.com/audio-change-come-mrs-rawlings-finds-peace/ Fri, 12 May 2017 05:46:52 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=115431 She was not born a politician but born into a family of politicians. She grew into one and became easily the most powerful, thoroughly influential first ladies in the history of Ghana.

She lives a life of colour, bright colours and always announced her presence with a trademark red beret  on top of a local fabric championing the cause of women under a movement, the 31st December Women’s movement.

She built a home, raised her kids outside the home, and supported a vintage husband, an ex-president who would remain an enigma in Ghana’s political history.

Her home could well be a study of how a stable family survives under unstable political idealogies; with wife breaking away from a party she helped the husband form and forming a new party with an ambition to win an election to become president; while still supporting her daughter, in principle, to win a parliamentary election on the ticket of the party she broke away from.

That may sound confusing but not to  Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. And when she appeared on Lexis Bills’ Personality Profile on Drive Time, Thursday, the easy going, former first lady in her unmistakable local bright fabric appeared not to have lost a thought or sleep for making the singular move to form a new party.

Her move to form the National Democratic Party was principled, she said. Her husband’s party had lost its way; taken over by people “with no good upbringing,” people who “were not members of the party  but found themselves in positions of power and thought that was the end of the world.”

She is a lone ranger in her new party but appears to have found peace, not because she left the old party but because she is “happy there is change,” the old party led by ex-president John Mahama lost to President Nana Akufo-Addo.

She would not comment on the first 100 days of the new administration because she believes the Akufo-Addo government needs far more than 100 days to repair what she hinted is the rot perpetrated by the NDC in eight years.

She certainly had not lost her love for music and for Ofori Amponsah. She couldn’t help but hum and nod in glee when Lexis let in a track. She giggled and wiggled in her seat in profound excitement. But her love for her husband could not be described. She won’t say how he proposed to her but she remembered that day with blush and grace.

She can’t say if she is romantic but remembers so graciously the many flowers, notes and cups of tea her husband, Mr Rawlings, handed over to her in a typical romantic gesture.

She is a mother of four but a mother to millions be they supporters, admirers who love and would celebrate her on the Mothers Day which is just days away.

Listen to the rivetting interview Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings had with Lexis Bill.

DKB is a boring comedian – Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings https://www.adomonline.com/dkb-boring-comedian-nana-konadu-agyeman-rawlings/ Thu, 20 Apr 2017 10:02:07 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=85731 Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, gave a damning verdict on Ghana’s King of Comedy, DKB, when she said his jokes were boring.

On a day that DKB was the lead act on a stage shared at different times by other budding comedians, Nana Konadu stormed out of the Accra International Conference Centre unexcited and unconvinced that DKB would shake that audience into a frenzy.

An avid patron of concerts and comedy shows, the former First Lady made her way to the exit as soon as the famous Ghanaian comedian mounted the stage, saying to the hearing of the other patrons seated close by, including this writer, “don’t mind him, his jokes are boring.”

The snub may have been a dent on DKB’s ego but the comedian did little on the night to disprove the former First Lady’s dim view of his stagecraft.

In truth, he failed to deliver the rib-cracking jokes many patrons expected of him, as the self-acclaimed King of Comedy was vulgar in his jokes which did not elicit a favourable response from the audience.

It was little surprise, too, that during his performance, DKB kept coaxing the crowd that he could not feel the vibe from them.

However, it was a night of real laughter up until the appearance of DKB. Comedians such as Lekzy Da Comic, Jacinta, Acapella from Nigerian and Salvador from Uganda gave good mums of themselves and the audience mowed their appreciation wait resounding applauses.

Lekzy Da Comic set the mood with his opening act, making jokes about short people, such as himself, which went down well with the audience until he resorted to vulgar-laced jokes.

Bubbly Jacinta followed and maintained the excitement, including a point when she invited three couples on stage and asked the guys to apply make-up on their women, moments which exposed the ignorance of the gentlemen regarding application of makeup as they made a mess of themselves on stage.

The voluptuous Jacinta could have scored higher points if she had not repeated some of her jokes from previous events.

Acapella gave good account of himself as his jokes about Nigerian Police and African leaders down well with the audience. He had a piece of paper on which he had written points for his jokes because he said he didn’t want to repent previous jokes.

The last comedian of the night was Salvador from Uganda who rounded everything up so well. His experience with his wife in the labour room was very well-received.

It was not all about comedy. There was also some good music in the house thanks to the likes of Kofi Bentil, B Ryt, Ofori Ampomsah and Becca. It was good to see Ofori Amponsah back on stage doing what he does best and he did not disappoint though he was not extraordinary.

The show was interlaced with a tribute to comedians who have passed on like Santo, Nkomode, Bob Okalla, Araba Stamp and Bob Cole. There was also dancing and singing competitions and winners were given products from sponsors including mobile phones and coupons for dinner and lunch.

Khemikal was spot-on as MC as he interacted well with the audience and also shared some jokes with them.
