Invited to cover the festivities, particularly the Dormaahene’s ceremonial rites, Kofi was filming when a sudden gunshot shattered the jubilant atmosphere.

A royal guard, taking part in the traditional musketry display, mistakenly fired his weapon towards Kofi instead of into the sky.

The gunpowder blast struck Kofi squarely in the face, severely injuring his eyes. The crowd was stunned as he cried out in pain, his vision immediately compromised.

Emergency medical care was swiftly administered, and Kofi was rushed to the hospital. The severity of his injuries became clear as he temporarily lost sight in both eyes.

His wife, Miracle Adoma, later spoke emotionally about the terrifying ordeal and the uncertainty surrounding her husband’s condition.

Due to the complexity of his injuries, Kofi was flown to Dubai for advanced medical treatment. Thankfully, doctors were able to restore vision in one of his eyes, marking a crucial step in his recovery.

In recent weeks, Kofi has been sharing glimpses of his healing process. A new video posted online shows him enjoying the serenity of nature, a symbolic moment of peace and resilience. Renowned journalist Kofi Adomah Nwanwani has shared his first public statement following a tragic incident that nearly cost him his sight.

He revealed he is enduring severe pain and a constant headache, making it difficult for him to rest or sleep despite multiple medical treatments.

“I want to talk before anything happens. I’m in severe pain with my head aching badly, but I need to speak out before anything happens,” he said, visibly emotional.

The broadcaster was injured during a musketry display in Dormaa in December 2024 when gunpowder residue struck his eye.

Despite the injury, he remained committed to covering the festival, even traveling to Dubai for treatment.

However, Kofi expressed disappointment that his people had abandoned him during his recovery and alleged attempts by some traditional leaders in Dormaa to cover up the incident to avoid public embarrassment.

“If anybody will do this to me, I didn’t expect it to come from Bono people,” he lamented.

Despite the setbacks, Kofi expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life and thanked Ghanaians for their prayers and support.
