In a joint statement, members of the media, public affairs professionals, and the tourism, culture, and creative arts sectors expressed pride in KKD’s new role and thanked President John Dramani Mahama for selecting “one of our best.”

The statement highlighted KKD’s long and diverse career, which has shaped him into one of Ghana’s most accomplished communicators and cultural ambassadors. It recalled his early involvement in the arts—from organising entertainment events as a teenager, to writing and voicing commercials at 15, and moving into radio at 19 and television at 20.

Over the years, KKD has built a strong reputation across multiple sectors, including producing and hosting corporate and cultural events, managing advertising and promotions, contributing to tourism and hospitality development, and working in public affairs, investment promotion, private medical insurance, and international relations.

He later advanced into media management, cultural exchange initiatives, brand management, and advocacy for ethical leadership.

The media fraternity noted that KKD’s career reflects “learning, passion, determination, and consistency,” qualities that make him well-suited to represent Ghana’s interests in the Caribbean. They described him as a “true, selfless and humble servant,” noting that his new role aligns with his lifelong dedication to promoting Ghana’s culture, strengthening international ties, and uplifting the creative sector.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, the statement expressed confidence that KKD’s expertise and commitment would help advance Ghana-Caribbean cooperation. It concluded with warm wishes, celebrating him as a gentleman, a leader, and a cultural icon whose excellence and eloquence continue to inspire many.

We should enact a law to jail politicians who lie – KKD https://www.adomonline.com/we-should-enact-a-law-to-jail-politicians-who-lie-kkd/ Wed, 14 Aug 2024 14:23:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2433729 Media personality Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, has called for a law that would imprison politicians who lie.

He referenced an initiative in Wales where the government is working on legislation to ban any politician or high-ranking public servant who lies from holding public office for life.

KKD argued that in Ghana, simply banning dishonest politicians from public service is insufficient.

He explained that even if politicians are banned for unethical practices, corruption, or nepotism, they often continue to live comfortably after leaving office, having profited from their misconduct.

Mr. Darkwah said that more stringent measures, such as imprisonment, are necessary to hold them accountable.

Speaking on JoyNews AM show, KKD said, “We must look at the possibility of enacting something on our law books so that those who lie in high office, those who lie in positions of public authority actually go to jail.”

Mr Darkwah noted that, people should choose a profession where they have the necessary skills, competence, and humanity to practice.

KKD added that while some brilliant individuals may choose to play football instead of becoming auditors, those who do choose to be auditors must ensure their work environment is as clean and transparent as Singaporean politics.

He further added that if they cannot uphold these standards, they should consider a different profession.

Mr Darkwah noted that if a medical doctor acts unethically, the Medical Council can revoke their license to practise, but there is no similar accountability mechanism for politicians.

“And even if he (the politician) has stolen in the previous government, when the government he serves or the party he serves comes back, he gets yet another position again. There are over 31,000,000 people in Ghana if one of you is a liar, it would eventually lead to thievery because all deceit leads to greater and worse things.”

Why is no one questioning Cecilia Dapaah over the source of her money? – KKD [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/why-is-no-one-questioning-cecilia-dapaah-over-the-source-of-her-money-kkd-listen/ Fri, 09 Aug 2024 08:13:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2431301 Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster, King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, has expressed his frustration over the state’s failure to prosecute former Minister of Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, after large sums of money were discovered in her home.

KKD criticized the legal system for what he perceives as favoritism, suggesting that ordinary citizens would not be treated with the same leniency.

His comments follow revelations that two of Dapaah’s house helps had stolen $1 million, €300,000, and other valuable items from her Abelemkpe residence.

Subsequent investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) uncovered several million Ghana cedis in the former Minister’s home.

KKD argued that, if an ordinary citizen were found with a similar amount of money, they would be immediately arrest.

“Why do we live in a country where if a young man, hustling and placing bets, is found with just one million Ghana cedis in his house, he would be arrested and questioned?” KKD questioned.

He implied that, the absence of investigation or prosecution in Dapaah’s case highlights a system that protects those in power.

“But a public servant who claims to have dredged the Odo lagoon has all this money at home. Whether they obtained it through illegal means, bribes, or some other questionable source, no one dares to question or prosecute them,” KKD said in interview on 3FM.

KKD reacts to video of his son leading LGBTQ+ movement in UK https://www.adomonline.com/kkd-reacts-to-video-of-his-son-leading-lgbtq-movement-in-uk/ Thu, 03 Aug 2023 20:41:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2280180 Prominent Ghanaian broadcaster and political advocate, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, has opened up about his son’s involvement in a recent LGBTQ+ rights protest that took place in the United Kingdom.

In a candid statement, Mr Darkwah acknowledged that while he is a father, he does not possess the power to alter the choices his son has made.

KKD expressed that a parent’s role is akin to that of a shepherd, guiding their children through life’s journey.

However, he emphasized the inevitable reality that children mature and make their own decisions as adults. “Children grow and there is nothing you can do about decisions they want to take as adults,” he remarked.

In this challenging situation, Darkwah shared that his recourse is to turn to prayer, urging fellow Ghanaians to join him in supporting his son through positive intentions.

He also encouraged critics to view the matter with understanding, highlighting that his son’s circumstances do not reflect those of poverty or necessity that might drive some individuals to engage in unconventional paths.

Meanwhile, a video circulating on the Twitter account of Ghanaian blogger @SIKAOFFICIAL1 captured a moment on July 15, wherein the well-known stylist led the march in England.

The event was organized to underscore the importance of upholding the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Addressing the gathered crowd, Kwaku Darkwah Kyei Darkwah, adorned in a wig and brazen attire, articulated that the march aimed not only to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues but also to underscore that individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ are entitled to their rights and freedoms, which deserve recognition and respect.

Akufo-Addo is in office, but not in power – KKD https://www.adomonline.com/akufo-addo-is-in-office-but-not-in-power-kkd/ Tue, 01 Nov 2022 14:30:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2178241 Renowned media personality Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as ‘KKD’, says President Nana Akufo-Addo is not in charge of the country.

According to the ace broadcaster, the President has lost his grip on the state of affairs.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM show on Monday, October 31, KKD told host Benjamin Akakpo that the President’s address to the nation on the economy on Sunday was empty.

President Akufo-Addo

He insisted that President Akufo-Addo is a total failure and he failed to rally the nation together in hard times.

“Yesterday I listened to our President for about half an hour and I realised he is in office but not in power,” he said.

According to him, the statement was insipid which does not inspire confidence in good times to come.

He added the President has surrounded himself with people who cannot offer him any sound advice.

“You, knowing that we don’t have the forces if we create the generals, have made 16 regions when we need only six, based on the ethnic groups we have in Ghana, cannot even think of having hospitals so people do not die needlessly, but are thinking of a cathedral without knowing that the church is in your heart, not in buildings. And that buildings maybe built with monies from corruption, but hearts that are selfless and full of kindness will not be corrupted, how are you in power?” he queried.

President Akufo-Addo addressed the nation on Sunday, October 30, on measures his government is taking to ameliorate the current economic crisis facing the country.

In his address, the President hinted at possibly securing a deal with the International Monetary Fund by the end of the year.

According to him, the country is likely to arrive at an agreement by December to get the crucial bailout it seeks.

He believes this will help “repair the short term of public finances and restore our balance of payment while we continue to work on the medium to long term structural changes that are at the heart of our goal of constructing a resilient robust Ghanaian economy and building a Ghana Beyond Aid.”

Amidst the general economic difficulties facing Ghanaians, the President in an address to the nation on Sunday insisted that the government is committed to ensuring that the economy is back on track.

“We are working towards securing a deal with the IMF by the end of the year,” he said on Sunday.

“This will give further credence to the measures government is taking to stabilize and grow the economy, as well as shore up our currency.”

I think Akufo-Addo owes Ofori-Atta – KKD https://www.adomonline.com/i-think-akufo-addo-owes-ofori-atta-kkd/ Mon, 31 Oct 2022 14:59:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2177901 Media personality, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD), has alleged that the President’s inability to sack the Finance Minister could be due to an undisclosed indebtedness to him.

According to him, there is a need for Parliament to probe for any debt Akufo-Addo may be owing Ken Ofori-Atta.

Wondering why the President has not been able to sack his cousin- the Finance Minister, KKD said Mr Ofori-Atta has performed abysmally in office and does not deserve to be at post.

“Ken must go. Ken must go…How much money do you alone want to have? Why? Databank alone, how many of your staff are in government at the moment?”, he quizzed on the AM Show on Monday.

“How much money does Nana Addo owe you? In fact, Parliament must ask this question … I think the President owes him.

“Because if the President doesn’t owe him, what is it that is so beholding to this gentleman that with what he’s done with our economy, he is still allowed to be at post?”, KKD wondered.

The concerns by KKD add to the litany of calls urging the President to fire the Finance Minister.

Over the last couple of weeks, these calls have become rife across both social and traditional media, with many accusing the Finance Minister of steering Ghana’s economy into a ditch.

Ghana’s economy is presently reeling under pressure, with a decline in macro economic indicators.

Bawumia has an office which is totally redundant – KKD https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-has-an-office-which-is-totally-redundant-kkd/ Thu, 25 Aug 2022 12:45:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2154450 Renowned media personality, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as ‘KKD’, has described the office of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as unnecessary.

According to the ace broadcaster, the role of a Vice President in the general scheme of governance structure must be phased out.

He made these remarks during an interview with Benjamin Akakpo on JoyNews‘ AM Show on Wednesday, August 24.

“There will come a time where we may not even need a Vice President. Because really, what exactly does a Vice President do? That [role] is totally redundant. I said so. Those who say they’re intellectuals [should challenge me].

“He (Bawumia) has an office which is totally redundant. What are you talking about? Even in America, what does the Vice President do? Even in the UK, what is the Vice Prime Minister, what is that?” he fumed.

“We are not talking like people who have brains. We have brains. We did not go to school to learn common sense. We went to school to learn trades. But as for common sense, it is taught at home.

“And when you’re sufficiently thought common sense, then you get the rarest form of common sense which is wisdom,” KKD added.

In his submissions, he also lamented the huge number of ministers in Ghana, given the country’s present economic woes.

In connection with this, many influential persons have also been calling on the President to downsize his government and effect a reshuffle to help place the economy on a better footing.

But the President has paid a deaf ear to these calls. President accused those demanding a Ministerial overhaul of being detractors who want to destabilise his government.

He insisted that his men have performed.

Commenting on this matter, media personality, KKD said President Akufo-Addo’s entrenched position on reshuffling his appointees is due to his indebtedness to some of them.

“The President, I think is indebted to some of the people he has appointed and because of that debt, he’s unable to make them go,” he said.

He also added that “a king is judged by his courtiers. So if the leader is surrounded by people who are physicians, who are disingenuous, you and I, the Fourth Estate have a duty to help remove those people because many of them, you and I did not vote for.”

Meanwhile, government has assured us that it is working to make things better despite the prevailing hurdles.

Ghanaians were unfair to Mahama – KKD https://www.adomonline.com/ghanaians-were-unfair-to-mahama-kkd/ Wed, 24 Aug 2022 14:20:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2153959 Broadcast journalist Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) says Ghanaians were unfair to former President John Mahama by voting him out in the 2016 elections.

According to him, Mr Mahama should have been given the benefit of the doubt since one term was inadequate to judge his capabilities as President.

“You need to give them time and usually, that time is a whole first term. So looking back now, I think Ghanaians were unfair to Mahama,” he told Benjamin Akakpo on JoyNews’ AM Show.

KKD further attributed Mr Mahama’s loss to his communication team.

In his view, the said team failed to propagate the works of their boss, therefore, giving the then opposition side, New Patriotic Party (NPP) an upper hand.

“He [Mahama] didn’t speak much and he had a communications team that failed him. They were more interested in hearing their own voices than to speak about the work that man is doing,” he opined.

Ahead of the 2016 general election, the erstwhile Mahama administration was subjected to numerous criticisms due to the economic crisis at the time.

The then-opposition party, subsequently tagged him as ‘incompetent’ leading to his defeat at the polls.

But KKD said Ghanaians jumped the gun in attacking Mr Mahama, who he described as his brother.

“So we could victimise this president so much and now people in the NPP are calling me and I quote them, ‘we still love Nana Addo but his governance has made Mahama our saviour’.”

I am not scared to die for speaking the truth – KKD https://www.adomonline.com/i-am-not-scared-to-die-for-speaking-the-truth-kkd/ Wed, 24 Aug 2022 11:08:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2153821 Broadcast journalist, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD), says he is unfazed by the numerous death threats he has received from politicians after speaking “the truth”.

According to him, he will not allow cowardice to push him to become silent when the nation is being mismanaged.

When answering a question on JoyNews’ AM Show if he was afraid for his life, KKD said “No.”

“I have enjoyed too much of life. I have had happiness and I have had the lower version of happiness which is a pleasure. I have had plenty of it.

“I have eaten in places that some of the people in political office are now seeking to dine in. What have I got to lose?” he quizzed.

KKD became a media sensation after he expressed his surprise at government for constantly employing the services of a company co-founded by the Finance Minister – Data Bank Financial Services – as advisors for some of Ghana’s international loan transactions.

His outburst on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 17, resonated with many Ghanaians who have since asked leaders to avoid occupying a public office that can cause a conflict of interest.

But the Ministry of Finance has dismissed the claims that Databank and Black Star Brokerage were handpicked by the Finance Ministry and the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to act as Bond Market Specialists for government bond issuance, hence benefiting from those transactions.

In a statement, the Ministry said, it is incorrect the claim that these two firms have been appointed as advisors to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

“The selection of the Primary Dealers [PDs] and Bond Market Specialists [BMSs] is an automatic process based on market performance and historical secondary market trading activity which is publicly available and cannot be manipulated by the Ministry of Finance [MoF] or the Bank of Ghana”.

KKD on AM Show maintains his position that the Finance Minister’s affiliation to Databank may be the reason the country keeps borrowing, a habit he insisted cannot be allowed to continue.

Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) suggested that it may be the reason the country keeps borrowing, a habit he insisted cannot be allowed to continue.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 17, he lashed out at Parliament for keeping quiet about it.

According to him, the legislators have failed the country and its citizens.

“I read a report yesterday that broke my heart. I saw how much Ghana owes but I also found that apparently, the Minister of Finance’s company or former company, is the transaction advisor to the monies we borrow.

“So, as Ghana gets poorer, the Minister of Finance’s company or former company gets richer.”

“Is this what we want to continue in this country? Do we want to elect people into office, give them their pay and perks and then allow them and their friends and their companies or their former companies to be the very beneficiaries of the woes of our country?” he said.

The country’s current total debt stock hit GH¢391.9 billion as of March 2022, per data from the Bank of Ghana.

KKD’s near-death experiences on Motorway [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/kkds-near-death-experiences-on-motorway-video/ Sun, 19 Jun 2022 00:46:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2128023

Veteran broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwah aka KKD has opened up on horrifying experiences on the Accra-Tema Motorway that almost claimed his life.

According to him, an armed robber once shot at his car in an attempt to stop him midway through his journey.

However, he managed to exhibit an act of bravery and hit the robber to disarm him.

He subsequently drove to the Tema Police Station to report the incident.

In a video on social media in which he detailed his experiences, he claimed the police wanted to impound his car instead of tracing and arresting the suspect.

Fast forward, another incident he said occurred in March 2022, when he had a flat tyre and parked to change it.

Just when he was on it, a motor rider passing by in an attempt to distract him informed him someone was behind him and before he knew it, stones were being pelted at him.

“So stones were thrown, one hit my left thumb, one nearly hit my head I ducked. I got my key out, forgot to lock the car and moved away for safety.

“By the time the things calmed down, I moved back to my car, my iPhone was gone, money in my wallet is gone, shoes I was bringing my sister, documents and my walking cane is gone, ” he recounted.

KKD further queried the government’s commitment to fixing the potholes on the motorway and also expressed worry over the absence of police patrol teams on the stretch.

Do you need to be paid neutrality allowance for doing your job? – KKD questions https://www.adomonline.com/do-you-need-to-be-paid-neutrality-allowance-for-doing-your-job-kkd-questions/ Thu, 28 Apr 2022 12:22:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2109500 Media, Brands and Culture Expert, King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) has condemned the government’s decision to pay ‘Neutrality Allowance’ to public sector workers.

There has been some form of disputations in recent times over the issue of the Political Neutrality Allowance following the strike by some Public Sector Workers under the Civil and Local Government Service Staff, CLOGSAG since Thursday, April 21st, 2022.

The Political Neutrality Allowance is an allowance to be paid to Civil and Local Government Workers to remain neutral in discharging their duties without engaging in partisanship.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show with Thelma Tackie, King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah bemoaned the conduct of CLOGSAG.

Also read:

“Who are the people who accepted this? We have to ensure that those people do not serve in any office in government for at least 15 years. It’s stupidity”, he professed.

Such allowance if implemented would raise a lot of allowance requests by other working groups, as some have arguably stated, to caution the government. He has asked that, is it necessary to pay someone a neutrality allowance for doing what is expected of him?

“Why are we asking to be paid ‘neutrality allowance’ to do what is in the Constitution? It is in the Constitution that when you work in the Civil Service, you’ll be neutral”, he asserted.

KKD added that, the people want to be called leaders and bosses, but in reality, they have been appointed to serve and the eagerness to give them some recognition and accolade without them doing what is expected of them, makes them behave the way they do.

“We have elected them to serve us, not to Lord over us…pay you a neutrality allowance for doing your job? Then every citizen needs to be paid that too”, he said

He said he blocked some numbers not long ago as the naked photos won’t stop coming, adding he already has a long queue.

“I had to block one of my numbers recently because I was getting too many ladies sending me their naked pictures; please stop it,” he cautioned in an interview on Accra-based GTV.

All attempts he said to stop these ladies have proved futile as they will always find a nice way to make him aware they did it on purpose.

In defending the actress after her ‘sour’ revelations on CNN, KKD maintained that husbands, not young ladies (side chicks), needed to be advised.
Insisting Moesha did not make any generalization as she has been accused of.
KKD said in any case, the views were representative of the real situation in Ghana.
“I don’t remember her saying she was talking for Ghana, but the truth is, a good number of people are doing what she talked about,” he said.

KKD deletes post on gay son https://www.adomonline.com/kkd-deletes-post-gay-son/ Mon, 06 Nov 2017 14:24:13 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=639931 Renowned broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwah has deleted an alleged Facebook post he made about his son being gay after it went viral on Friday.
Darkwah Kyei Darkwah, son of KKD, in an interview with intomore.com, which was republished by News-One on Thursday and later published by several other news platforms in Ghana, opened up to being gay.
He indicated he has been gay since he was in primary school but had to hide it from his parents and family.
“The moment I realised I was gay happened in primary school. Someone called me gay as an insult and I responded with “so what?” I was totally fine with it, but others weren’t and that was when the discomfort and shame with my sexuality started,” he told the digital magazine.
“I went through a lot of ups and downs, trying out new ways of dressing, trying out new friendship groups, and reinventing myself over and over again. I realise I did this because I was still trying to fit in a box – the stylish black guy, the cool and macho black guy, the femme, flamboyant and fun black guy. None worked because there is a lot more to me (and any person for that matter) than a stereotype. I am now very comfortable with my sexuality because I don’t feel I need to conform to any one image,” he added.
KKD was allegedly trolled on social media over the son’s sexuality.
But the man, who was arrested in 2014 for allegedly raping a 19-year-old lady and was later freed after the rape charge was dropped on April 22, 2015 after the Attorney General entered a nolle prosequi for the case, is definitely not the type who keeps mute when he is being trolled.
He allegedly took to Facebook to congratulate his son for the bravery in coming out about his sexuality in a long post. He indicated that regardless of his son’s sexuality, he loves him and will not disown him for his choices.
“Whilst the culture in which I was raised influenced me to lean towards raising my children as Asante, Christian, well-mannered, audacious, industrious, cosmopolitan and heteros*xual, I do not consider it my place to pontificate, praise or condemn the sexuality any adult identifies with,” part of his alleged post read.
“My son Darkwah is a gentle, creative, confident, erudite and hard-working 23 year-old who has studied fashion design and worked as sales executive for Harrods and Givenchy, sales executive then stylist – Luxury Accessories for Tom Ford, Account Executive for Haddon PR and is now fashion editor for the Gay Times, arguably the world’s biggest magazine in its genre. And yes I love him, I admonish him, I scold him and I celebrate him as a loving,” he also said.
But few hours after the post went viral, it could not be found on KKD’s Facebook page, where most online reports sourced for their stories. It was also not on his Instagram page as of Sunday.
It is readily not clear why the alleged post has been taken off.

Don't let your gay son come to Ghana – Maurice Ampaw tells KKD https://www.adomonline.com/dont-let-gay-son-come-ghana-maurice-ampaw-tells-kkd/ https://www.adomonline.com/dont-let-gay-son-come-ghana-maurice-ampaw-tells-kkd/#comments Mon, 06 Nov 2017 07:04:49 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=637221 Private legal practitioner, lawyer Maurice Ampaw, has advised Kwasi Kyei Darkwah popularly known as KKD not to allow his son, Darkwah Kyei Darkwah step foot in his home country Ghana.
Mr Ampaw says the International model Darkwah Kyei Darkwah’s sexual confession is a threat to the Ghanaian youth.
His advise comes after the former maverick radio personality KKD threw his support for his son despite the backlash from the public.
“He should stay abroad with his gay life and should not come to Ghana because if he comes to Ghana, he is now a sacrilege to the country.
He will be monitored by the police and should he engage in any form of sexual relations, with anybody, he will be arrested because his action is a criminal offence. He cannot also marry here in Ghana,” Lawyer Ampaw said.

I support my gay son – KKD https://www.adomonline.com/support-gay-son-kkd/ Fri, 03 Nov 2017 13:42:47 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=634301 Renowned broadcaster and fashionista, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, has broken his silence over reports that his son is involved in homosexuality.
Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah is reported to have said that he had a difficult time coming out about his sexuality.
According to him, he used to hide it and remembered instances when he used to be very quiet, obedient and often stayed in his room so that he will not be noticed while living with his parents.
He has, however, gone past that stage in his life. He currently doesn’t feel the need to conform to anybody’s standard in terms of sexuality.

But his father, reacting to the report said he will always love his son, Darkwah Kyei Darkwah, irrespective of his sexual orientation.
“I have been notified of the eagerly re-published article on my dearly beloved son Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah’s speaking up on his acceptance of his sexuality. His words were candid and courageous. The first step to being happy is to be honest and embrace who you are in its totality.” -Anon.
“His statement of his conviction and comfort with himself as a young man is a matter of an individual’s sexuality. Come joy or pain, sunshine or rain, success or failure, I will always love my son Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah and my daughter Ohemaa Asokwa Kyei-Darkwah.
“My love, care and devotion to my children are non-negotiable” he said in a post.

KKD writes: “a beautiful Friday to you, family, friends, followers, frenemies and foes.
I have been notified of the eagerly re-published article on my dearly beloved son Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah’s speaking up on his acceptance of his sexuality.
His words were candid and courageous.
“The first step to being happy is to be honest and embrace who you are in its totality.” -Anon.
His statement of his conviction and comfort with himself as a young man is a matter of an individual’s sexuality.
Come joy or pain, sunshine or rain, success or failure, I will always love my son Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah and my daughter Ohemaa Asokwa Kyei-Darkwah.
My love, care and devotion to my children are non-negotiable.
There are ex-wives and ex-husbands but there are no ex-children nor ex-parents.
No truth nor lies, no malicious gossip nor ill-willed broadcast can ever change my love and devotion for my children no matter who they think they are.
Through divorce and a year after, I stayed strong through the storm as a single father to raise my son and daughter aged 7+ and 5+, working, teaching, cooking, cleaning, ironing, reading, driving, playing, flying, juggling, mentoring, role-playing and praying, all to keep their welfare paramount.
I have never ever shunned them as some strange and hateful persons would have the feeble-minded and gullible believe.
The uncouth, green-eyed monsters and miserable plebeians’ obsession with the lives of those they secretly admire or hate can lead to some rather curious acts of malice.
I have plenty praise for all the Earth Angels; family, lovers and loyal friends who helped me through my work and studies to care for our kind, courteous and gifted children.
Like all youngsters, they too have their highs and lows but they have been the joy of my life for years and still are.
Whilst the culture in which I was raised influenced me to lean towards raising my children as Asante, Christian, well-mannered, audacious, industrious, cosmopolitan and heterosexual, I do not consider it my place to pontificate, praise or condemn the sexuality any adult identifies with.
Each of us is a sum of many parts and sexual orientation is only one.
I bow with respect to the culture of my people and habitat but I also respect the culture and choices of others in theirs.
I am an open-hearted, open-minded tourist in God’s vast lands, who embraces all colour, race and creed:
Religion; Atheist, Christian, Hindu, Jew, Muslim, Pagan or other,
Gender Identity; Male Female Queer or other
Sexual orientation; Heterosexual, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite or other, and
Skin tone; black, brown, yellow, pink, white, pale or other
I have seen, encountered and worked in offices and at corporate functions, exhibitions and stately banquets with them all.
What I have learnt through travel and open mind is that they have more similarities than differences with you and I.
We all have a shared humanity even though we walk and talk differently, dress and stress differently, win and sin differently.
My admiration and respect for the talents of Oscar Wilde the thinker, writer and aesthete, Tom Ford the designer and film maker, Tim Cook the CEO of Apple, David Geffen, co-founder of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. and investor in Apple, Peter Mandelson the producer turned politician, Queen Latifah, rap artiste and actress, Ellen DeGeneres, Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon the broadcasters, Ryan Murphy the writer, director and producer of Glee, Edward Enninful, first black editor of style Bible Vogue and Sir Ian Murray McKellen, CH, CBE (born 25 May 1939) the English actor, recipient of six Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BIF Award, two Saturn Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, two Critics’ Choice Awards, two Oscar nominations, four BAFTA nominations and five Emmy Award nominations are not diminished by their sexual identity nor orientation.
My son Darkwah is a gentle, creative, confident, erudite and hard-working 23 year-old who has studied Fashion Design and worked as Sales Executive for Harrods and Givenchy, Sales Executive then Stylist – Luxury Accessories for Tom Ford, Account Executive for Haddon PR and is now Fashion Editor for the Gay Times, arguably the world’s biggest magazine in its genre. And yes I love him, I admonish him, I scold him and I celebrate him as a loving father.
Whats your difference? Whats your talent? What’s your sin?
As you ponder whether to accept and share yours in spirit and truth with the world, take a moment to ask yourself if those people and things you aim your wrath and persecution at are the cause of the state you are in.
Also ask your parents, and your children, if they would treat you the way you treat others in the event that your sexuality were any different.
It warms my heart to see that my dearly beloved son has the courage and clarity of mind to speak up for himself, as everyone should to enable all live without narrow-mindedness, prejudice, fear and hate.
If each one would spend time doing something that brings them closer to realizing their goals, purpose and happiness whilst respecting the existence of others and safeguarding the environment and public purse, we would all be better for it.
All of us cannot be simultaneously happy with the way everyone finds their peace and happiness but we can agree to let what we see wrong in others never overshadow what is wrong with ourselves.
Whether my son says he is straight or gay, he will forever remain my dearly beloved son. Dig that.
Namaste????????

KKD's son opens up about being gay https://www.adomonline.com/kkds-son-opens-gay/ Fri, 03 Nov 2017 07:02:49 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=632961 Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah, a model said to be a son of popular Ghanaian broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD), has opened up about being gay in a digital magazine, intomore.com.
Darkwa says he had a difficult time coming out about his sexuality.
“The moment I realised I was gay happened in primary school. Someone called me gay as an insult and I responded with ‘so what?’ I was totally fine with it, but others weren’t and that was when the discomfort and shame with my sexuality started,” he told intomore.com.
He was featured on the website alongside other gay models with African backgrounds on issues they face as queer people of colour.
“Living under my parents’ roof, I was constantly hiding. I’d get home from school and be incredibly quiet, helpful and obedient. I stayed in my room most of the time. I was playing the role of the ‘ideal son’ so I could just skate by unnoticed. It wasn’t until I was no longer living at home that I started to realise I wasn’t anyone or anything I’d known so far in my life,” he said.
Meanwhile, back home in Ghana, being gay comes with grave challenges. It’s not accepted by majority and there have been moves to criminalise homosexuality.
The Speaker of Parliament, Mike Ocquaye Jnr, was recently reported have lashed out at human rights group Amnesty International who called on him to relax his stance on gay rights.

Bulldog ‘fights’ KKD over ‘One Corner’ dance craze https://www.adomonline.com/bulldog-fights-kkd-one-corner-dance-craze/ Wed, 27 Sep 2017 12:02:25 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=528861 Artiste manager and critic, Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, popularly known as Bulldog has expressed utmost disappointment in Kwesi Kyei Darkwa’s condemnation of the famous ‘One Corner’ dance craze.

KKD sharing his view on the trendy dance expressed disgust as he asserted that there are more positive things about Ghanaians which should be projected to the rest of the world than indulging in acts that rather make a mockery of the country.

“It is bad when the name of Ghana is dragged into something like this. A lot of educative things have come up in Ghana; a lot of brilliant personalities have visited us here. So let us also project those positive things too about our country. There are a lot of things in the world; there is good and there is bad, some are true some are lies,” KKD said on Neat FM’s Entertainment Ghana, Tuesday.

“If it is not foolishness then what is it? If people shake their buttocks and roll on the floor and share on social media and it is not foolishness, then what is it? It is either madness or sickness. I think sometimes we should be bold enough to say things just the way they are. I am not saying this out of anger, jealousy or with any hard feelings but I insist it is foolishness” he added.

But reacting to KKD’s remarks on Daybreak Hitz, Wednesday, Bulldog stated that he never expected the arts and entertainment mogul to downplay the craft. He believes artistes and music promoters should even take a cue to promote their works.

“KKD knows entertainment and he should know that some of these things will come… I don’t think it is the song per say. It is the dance that comes with the song. Whether we cry or shout, it is the biggest song in Ghana now. It’s a calculated attempt. The guy knew this song would not just go [so they had to come up with something]. This is a case study… It is divine. KKD who knows entertainment in and out should ask how we can maximize this. This is what the white man is capitalizing on but we are quick to condemn,” said Bulldog.

The ‘one corner’ dance is a crazy dance accompanied with extra energy that requires one secludes oneself in a corner and perform a s?xually stimulating dance. It came into existence following the release of a single by Patapaa titled, ‘One Corner’.

For many of the videos sighted by www.abrantepa.com, it is just mindboggling the extent people went to exhibit ‘craziness’.

VIDEO: KKD opens up on rape case https://www.adomonline.com/video-kkd-opens-rape-case/ Tue, 30 May 2017 07:05:59 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=141861 Media personality Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) says he has moved on from his past and he is living his life in beauty and dignity.

The ace broadcaster was hit with a rape allegation in December 2014 following a complaint by a 19 year old Miss Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson.

The rape charges were dropped against the ace broadcaster in 2015 and after two years KKD is still convinced his traitors were behind the bad press in the escalation of what he said wasn’t a rape.

I did not beg KKD not to mention my name in rape case – KOD https://www.adomonline.com/not-beg-kkd-not-mention-name-rape-case-kod/ Thu, 23 Mar 2017 16:44:12 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=42931 TV and radio personality Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), has rejected comments made by Kwasi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) a year ago suggesting he begged him not to mention his name, after KKD was arrested for an alleged rape.

In an interview with Deloris Frimpong-Manso in August 2016, KKD disclosed that his brother and friend, KOD, was with him at the African Regent Hotel the night he was alleged to have raped a young lady, but went on his knees to beg him not to mention his name.

In a very explicit interview, KKD gave a ‘blow-to-blow’ account of what transpired without mincing words.

“KOD was there, he had knelt down begging me…and I want to make this public today that those whom KOD mentioned their names, they should also come out to deny that he was lying.”

KOD, however, in an exclusive interview on the hit satirical talk show, Tonight With Nii Kpakpo Thompson on Joy Prime last Sunday, denied ever begging KKD not to mention his name.

“He called me on his birthday last year and said that, ‘hey I’m his younger brother, I’m his son. What he said on Delay Show was not what he really wanted to say. Because I did not beg him not to mention my name. It was way after the event that I apologised to him.”

KOD also revealed to host Nii Kpakpo Thompson that former President Rawlings took keen interest in the issue and called him to find out the truth of the matter. KOD also disclosed that Rawlings encouraged him to speak out about the issue.

“When it happened, President Rawlings told me that he thinks that being everything that I am I didn’t have to be quiet about it and I have to go out and talk about the facts of the matter because he was very concerned, he had an interest in that case. And I’m like a son… so to make sure I’m doing the right thing, he called me and wanted to know the truth and I told him.”

Despite the challenges that the duo had to go through during the crisis, KOD maintained that he had since mended his relationship with his friend, insisting that the incidence was the lowest point in his life.

“When my father died, KKD came home. And it was at a time I could feel things were not okay between KKD and myself. I spoke to him in Twi (If you are here let me use the opportunity to apologise to you). He felt that I should have been in court or sitting on a show like this one in his defence but my lawyers had talked to me. My lawyers said that where the act took place I was not there. And he had conceded that he had consensual sex with the young lady. He had spoken for himself, what else was I going to say?

“I have now buried this issue like my father, it’s been the lowest low in my life,” KOD stated.

The state was forced to drop its charges against the entertainment personality in April 2015 because the lady at the centre of the rape charge against KKD said she was no longer interested in the case.
