How Kologo instrument made me walk after 3 years of crawling – King Ayisoba https://www.adomonline.com/how-kologo-instrument-made-me-walk-after-3-years-of-crawling-king-ayisoba/ Fri, 25 Mar 2022 12:02:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2095858 Ghanaian traditional musician King Ayisoba, born Albert Poozore, was made to walk by a musical instrument known in the local parlance as ‘Kologo’ after three years of crawling.

This event in the life of the now-international act was made known during an interview he granted on Kantanka TV during the week.

King Ayisoba, narrating his story, revealed that he could not walk three years after he was born.

“It was a stranger from Burkina who once came to our village and told my father to give me a musical instrument because that was the only thing which would make me walk”, King Ayisoba recounted

According to King Ayisoba, the stranger who wondered why he could not walk also realized he was a strong boy who has the capacity to walk so he recommended that the instrument be made for him and that alone will do the miracle.

He said to my siblings, “Why is this boy not able to walk, he needs this musical instrument to be able to walk. So he asked for my father and prophesied that this boy is a spirit. He wants to play this instrument and he will become well known all over the world”.

The father of King Ayisoba wanting to know how authentic the prophecy was also consulted an oracle and it was confirmed to him exactly what the stranger had said.

“My father went to an oracle and was told the same prophesy the man from Burkina had told him”.

It was then that he made the musical instrument for his son King Ayisoba and just a few months later he stood up and walked.

According to King Ayisoba, he was able to professionally play the instrument his father made for him without any assistance.

“After he made the instrument for me, I was filled with joy in my heart and started playing without anyone guiding me on how to play it”.

MOG Music claps back at King Ayisoba over Fancy Gadam jab [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/mog-music-claps-back-at-king-ayisoba-over-fancy-gadam-jab-video/ Fri, 18 Mar 2022 17:38:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2093096 Ghanaian gospel artiste, Nana Yaw Boakye, better known by his stage name MOG Music, has given a response to the statement “filling Up a stadium is not an achievement,” made by the ‘Kologo’ musician, King Ayisoba.

MOG Music said he should replicate it if he feels it is not an achievement. That is because it is not an easy feat.

“He should try it, if he thinks it is no achievement,” he cleared.

“It takes a lot to fill a stadium annually, to fill a stadium of 21,000 to 25,000 capacity it takes a lot, to even convince people to come it takes a lot,” he added.

He also opined that King Ayisoba requires some level of education on filling up stadium and what it takes.

He is not the only artiste who has come to condemn the statement made by the veteran musician. Another artiste hailing from the North has also come out to call out the artiste. Fancy Gadam also came out to pose a question to the artiste “if filling up a stadium is not an achievement, what is it then?”

The gospel artiste has also released a new song titled ‘Meto’. It features Hiplife musician, Nana Oduro Acheampong, better known as Yaw Igwe.

MOG Music is currently on a radio tour for the promotion of his New Wine Concert, happening at the Oil Dome, at the Royal House Chapel in Accra, on Sunday 20th March 2022. It features GRAMMY award-winning artiste, Donnie McClurkin.

Fancy Gadam replies King Ayisoba over ‘filling up a stadium isn’t an achievement’ statement https://www.adomonline.com/fancy-gadam-replies-king-ayisoba-over-filling-up-a-stadium-isnt-an-achievement-statement/ Thu, 17 Mar 2022 14:56:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2092345 Afro-pop artiste, Fancy Gadam, has a reply for King Ayisoba for saying filling the seats of a stadium for a music show is nothing to write home about.

The ‘Kologo’ musician, King Ayisoba made that statement in an interview where he was asked whether he had been able to fill up a stadium at any moment of his career.

He said: “Filling a stadium does not make you a champion. A champion is someone who sells shows globally. I’ve been awarded Artiste of the Year in Ghana and I am well-travelled with my music.”

In response to that, an artiste, known for filling up stadiums for his concerts held in the Northern part of Ghana, Fancy Gadam, said in an interview with Ibrahim Ben-Bako on Hitz News at 1, “If King Ayisoba says doing music is not about filling major avenues then what is it about, he should tell us?”

The ‘Total Cheat’ hit-maker said, the dream of every artiste is to make sure they are getting the numbers whenever they hold concerts.

“It is his opinion, because I believe strongly that, it is the dream of every artiste to fill up all big avenues, because it tells you who you are as an artiste, and how you are loved by the people.”

Fancy added that as an artiste you do music for the populace and not necessarily yourself, thus, urged the fans to express their support in full when they host events.

“I believe that, when you are doing music, you are not doing it for yourself, you are doing it for the people, and that is when you organize concerts and the people will come out to show you love,” he told Ibrahim Ben-Bako.

King Ayisoba reveals why many Ghanaian acts aren’t invited for music festivals abroad [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/king-ayisoba-reveals-why-many-ghanaian-acts-arent-invited-for-music-festivals-abroad-video/ Wed, 14 Jul 2021 10:14:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1985804 Many musicians in Ghana aren’t invited to play shows abroad due to the fact that they do not have a music band to play if they are given an international gig, says traditional musician King Ayisoba.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s Ahosepe Xtra show over the weekend, King Ayisoba said musicians should make it a core duty to have a solid live band team because “that is what the white people want.”

Talking further on winning international gigs, Ayisoba said artistes who stay true to their roots with a unique genre always have a higher stake than people who love to perform solo.

Born as Albert Apoozore, the award-winning kologo-stringing musician has played many international shows and speaking on the Ahosepe Show urged musicians to do more live band and not “computer music”.

The rap and computer music will hit but they will not be invited to festivals… when Azonto came, I was in UK and some people mentioned it especially One Corner but the problem is that many don’t have live bands to follow up if they get gigs.

When the song gets there and you say they should play your CD, they don’t really like that during their festivals. You require a live band. If Ghana’s music will change, many musicians need a live band… I played ‘I Want to See My Father’ many times because I was playing the show live [SIC], he said.

South Koreans think I’m the only musician in Ghana- King Ayisoba https://www.adomonline.com/south-koreans-think-im-musician-ghana-king-ayisoba/ Fri, 15 Sep 2017 14:23:13 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=496811 After an enlightening world tour which took him to far off places like South Korea, Kologo music artiste, King Ayisoba, is urging government to pay more attention to traditional music as it is a key area that could bring great international exposure.

With his performance in South Korea, Ayisoba, who is known for his hit song, I Want To See You My Father, becomes the first Ghanaian act to perform in that country.

As successful as his shows were, Ayisoba says his biggest takeaway was how viable traditional music is and why it must not be neglected. “I did some interviews in South Korea and they asked me if I was the only big artiste in Ghana. I said no and mentioned some of our current stars like Shatta Wale and Sarkodie but they did not have any idea who they were,” he said.

He continued, “For me, this obviously means traditional music is more powerful than Hiplife or Hiphop or Dancehall music and Ghanaians must not throw it away.”

Traditional music is not really an appreciated music genre in Ghana with more focus on highlife, dancehall, reggae and hiplife and this is something Ayisoba finds unfortunate.

“Traditional music has been relegated to the background and we are championing foreign music genres. Dancehall isn’t Ghanaian. I don’t think any of our dancehall artistes can do it better than the Jamaicans. Let’s promote our own so we can be appreciated by international audiences,” he urged.

Ayisoba hasn’t been as visible on the Ghanaian music scene for a while now but he has been raising the country’s flag high on the international scene. Since the beginning of the year, an extensive world tour and has seen him perform at 33 venues not only in Asia but across Europe in countries like Holland, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Romania.

On a short break in Ghana, he will leave soon for Poland where he will perform at the World Music Expo on September 25.

While he has been busy performing, King Ayisoba has also had time to release a 10-track album titled, 1000 Can Die. The album features a number of Ghanaian acts like Wanlov and Mensa. He also has Lee Perry, who produced some of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ big hits like Small Axe and Soul Rebel on one of his songs. The album is already out in Europe but he plans to do a full launch in Ghana soon.

Unlike some mainstream artistes who have had difficulty making ends meet, King Ayisoba, real name Albert Apoozore, has had a good career. “My life’s changed. I started music poor but now I’m doing very well. I have a big house in Bolgatanga and one in Accra and I am able to take good care of my two wives, five children and extended family.”

Being proof of how music can transform lives is why Ayisoba wants government to not only pay lip service but support the industry especially those in the traditional sector.

The king of Kologo music will be the first Ghanaian musician to perform in the Asian country. Ironically, this is not the first time the ‘I Want to see you my father’ hitmaker will be performing in an Asian country as he has already performed to a crowd of over five thousand music enthusiasts in China just a year ago.

The show which would take place on the 24th,August,2017,will witness performances from some top acts from Europe and host country South Korea with King Ayisoba being the only musician from Africa .

In 2014,he made another history as the first Ghanaian artist to perform over 1hour on stage with his Kologo Band  at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark which happens to be one of the biggest festivals in Europe.

King Ayisoba learnt how to play the kologo (a traditional two stringed guitar) from his grandfather, a traditional healer. He started playing music at pito bars and festivals and soon became a musical prodigy, known throughout Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. His musical career and fame grew from strength to strength.

Having conquered the waters in his home region, King Ayisoba felt that he had accomplished everything he could at home, and he headed for Accra. By an act of fate, he met and struck a partnership with the late Terry BonChaka.

The pair soon became the toast of every performance across the country as they stunned audiences with their unique blend of flawless traditional instrumentations and rhythms. Their reign ended abruptly with the tragic death of Terry in a motor accident.

Names like Reagan Mends aka Online Surgeon of Hot 93,9Fm/ editor of Razzonline.com and Panji Anoff;CEO of Pidgen Music can never be omitted when reckoning the success story of King Ayisoba.
