The Georgia international, who was linked with Liverpool and Chelsea, asked to leave Serie A leaders Napoli last week after failing to agree a contract extension.

While no details of the transfer fee have been disclosed, reports say French champions PSG have paid 70m euros (£59m) plus add-ons for Kvaratskhelia.

“It’s a dream to be here,” said the 23-year-old winger. I’ve heard so many positive things about PSG.

“I feel immense pride in joining this great club and I’m really looking forward to wearing my new colours.”

Kvaratskhelia – who was part of the Georgia side that reached the last 16 at Euro 2024 – was dubbed ‘Kvaradona’ by supporters during Napoli’s title-winning campaign, after the club’s iconic player Diego Maradona.

He joined Napoli in 2022 for £9m from Georgian club Dinamo Batumi and has claimed a combined 54 goals and assists in 107 appearances.

Kvaratskhelia is PSG’s first signing of the January transfer window and becomes the first Georgian player in the club’s history.

“Khvicha is one of the most exciting players in world football – a fantastic talent, but also a player who has courage and fights for the team above all else,” the club said.

PSG are seven points clear of Marseille at the top of Ligue 1 and visit Lens on Saturday, before hosting Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Kvaratskhelia asks to leave Napoli, Conte confirms amid Liverpool and PSG links https://www.adomonline.com/kvaratskhelia-asks-to-leave-napoli-conte-confirms-amid-liverpool-and-psg-links/ Sat, 11 Jan 2025 17:47:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2491911 In-demand Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will leave the Serie A club “immediately”, according to Antonio Conte, with Liverpool or Paris Saint-Germain his likeliest destination.

Napoli boss Conte revealed the Georgian star had told him of his intention to leave before the close of the January transfer window.

Kvaratskhelia has scored five goals and recorded three assists in 17 Serie A appearances this season, bolstering his reputation as one of the Italian top-flight’s most talented forwards.

The 23-year-old has reportedly attracted attention from multiple clubs in recent weeks, including Liverpool and PSG, while Chelsea have also been said to hold interest in the forward.

Kvaratskhelia’s form has helped Napoli to the top of the Serie A table, two points ahead of Atalanta.

“Kvaratskhelia has asked to leave the club,” Conte said in his press conference on Saturday, per multiple reports. “I spoke to Khvicha and he confirmed his plan to leave the club immediately.”

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot refused to be drawn on the swirling transfer rumours, with the Reds yet to make a signing in the January window.

“[Speculation] is what is happening now,” the Dutchman said. “And nine out of 10 times or 99 out of 100 times, at the end of the window it’s been clear that almost all of these stories weren’t true.

“So what can I comment about it? The rumours keep going for it but no comment from my side.”

Kvaratskhelia has made a total of 107 appearances for the Italian club, registering 30 goals in that time.

Euro 2024: Georgia ‘more motivated’ than Portugal – Kvaratskhelia https://www.adomonline.com/euro-2024-georgia-more-motivated-than-portugal-kvaratskhelia/ Wed, 26 Jun 2024 09:41:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2413578 Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia believes his side are “more motivated” than Portugal to win their final group-stage match.

Roberto Martinez’s Portuguese side have already qualified as winners of Group F.

A win would realistically be needed for Georgia to progress. If the Czech Republic and Georgia both win, they will advance in second or third.

“Psychologically and motivation-wise, we are more motivated than Portugal because Portugal is already through to the round of 16,” Kvaratskhelia said.

Playing at their first European Championships, Georgia have one point to show from two promising performances.

Georgia boss Willy Sagnol is pleased with his side’s efforts so far.

“If, before the competition, we would have been told maybe on your third match you will still have the possibility to qualify, I think we would all have signed these documents immediately,” he said.

Ronaldo to start for Portugal

Portugal secured their place in the last 16 in style with a commanding 3-0 win over Turkey.

They will face the third-ranked team from Group A, B or C in Frankfurt on 1 July.

There is an opportunity to rest players but Martinez said he will start 39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, who could become the oldest player to score at the Euros.

“I can tell you that the captain will be in the starting XI, he played one preparation game, he had a very good season and he has played a lot of minutes,” the Portugal boss said.

“It’s important to maintain his competitive standard because starting and stopping isn’t any good for you as a player.”

Martinez’s side are 68 places above Georgia in the Fifa rankings, which is the biggest gap at the tournament.

He said going for the win “is important to maintain the integrity of the Euros”, adding: “It’s a very important game because this result will be crucial to determine who qualifies and who doesn’t.”

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen inspire Napoli to victory https://www.adomonline.com/khvicha-kvaratskhelia-and-victor-osimhen-inspire-napoli-to-victory/ Sat, 16 Dec 2023 22:18:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2333376 Khvicha Kvaratskhelia bagged the decisive goal as Napoli returned to winning ways in Serie A with a 2-1 victory over Cagliari.

A frustrating first half was littered with opportunities for Napoli, with their best effort coming from Amir Rrahmani’s header, but the visitors came close through Tommaso Augello and Adam Obert.

The game suddenly kicked into life in the second half with three goals in six minutes when Victor Osimhen fired the hosts ahead, but Leonardo Pavoletti quickly equalised before Kvaratskhelia had the final say to net Napoli’s winner minutes later.

Victory ensured Walter Mazzarri’s side bounced back from two consecutive league losses and moved fourth in the table, while Cagliari continue to linger above the relegation zone.

Napoli had a chance in the opening minutes from a free-kick as Stanislav Lobotka chipped the ball to Kvaratskhelia on the right, who fired wide from a tight angle.

The hosts dominated the early stages as Osimhen tested Simone Scuffet twice and they broke from a Cagliari corner but Matteo Politano’s shot was deflected for a corner.

The winger then had an effort scooped up by Scuffet as the hosts continued to push for the opener, coming close again when Edoardo Goldaniga stuck out a leg to block Osimhen’s shot.

Cagliari had a great chance in the 21st minute when a corner was cleared as far as Augello, who fired from the edge of the box but the ball was deflected just wide of the post.

Napoli came close again in the 29th minute as Politano floated a free-kick to Rrahmani on the right, but his header smashed off the far post before being cleared and they were frustrated again when Jens Cajuste cut in from the right and fired over.

Cagliari had a brilliant opportunity from the break as Antoine Makoumbou launched a fantastic cross-field pass to Nahitan Nandez, but Alex Meret did well to rush forward and make the save.

The visitors had a chance just seconds into the second half but Obert’s effort was held by Meret and Napoli’s frustrations continued when Frank Anguissa’s powerful effort sailed over the bar.

The hosts eventually found the opener in the 69th minute when Osimhen’s header was palmed away by Scuffet and despite his best efforts, the ball smashed off the post and into the net.

Napoli’s lead was shortlived as Cagliari captain Pavoletti came back to haunt his former club, bundling in Zito Luvumbo’s cross from close range to level just three minutes later.

However, Napoli suddenly retook the lead in style in the 75th minute as Osimhen kept the ball with some superb skills before passing low across the six-yard box for Kvaratskhelia to smash home at the far post.

Politano then had a goal ruled out for offside before the visitors had a great chance to level in the final minutes when Alberto Dossena headed over the bar.
