The police said the suspect was arrested alongside her partner at the “renowned witchdoctor’s house” in a town near the capital, Nairobi, “where she had gone to seek protection” from arrest.

Detectives found the suspect as she was being immersed in a basin containing blood from a dead fowl, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.

“Upon noticing the detectives, the elderly witch doctor pronounced endless incantations in an attempt to keep them at bay, but that did not deter the sleuths from executing their mission much to the bemusement of [the suspect], who had closed her eyes expecting the sleuths to vanish,” the statement added.

The alleged theft of 4m shillings ($33,700; £28,000) and jewellery from the state official’s home is said to have happened last month and the suspect is said to have gone missing.

The police have warned criminals not to waste time seeking witchcraft services as it will not save them from arrest.

The suspects, Paul Njau Kibue and John Njua Kibeue, were accused of damaging window panes and water pipes valued at Ksh20,000.

According to police, the two damaged the property of Teresa Wamaitha on Thursday, October 7 within Ruthimitu area in Waithaka, Nairobi County.

Court records state that the complaint, Wamaitha, had a misunderstanding with the family of one of the suspects who was sleeping in her house on the night of October 6 and 7 when she was woken up by the sound of stones landing on her roof.

Upon noticing that the noise of stones hitting her roof had continued for some time; the complainant called for help as the stones were breaking the window glasses.

Their alarm attracted neighbours who went to their rescue including the complainant’s brother who noticed three people fleeing from the scene and heard one calling his accomplice by the nickname Rasta who he recognised as his nephew.

As the crowd milled at the scene the accused persons fled the scene having damaged the complainant’s house.

Woman in court over slap that led to loss of neighbour’s teeth https://www.adomonline.com/woman-in-court-over-slap-that-led-to-loss-of-neighbours-teeth/ Mon, 11 Oct 2021 16:50:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2026762 A Kenyan woman has landed herself in court after she allegedly slapped a young boy whom she found sitting outside to a point of him loosening his teeth.

This was after she mistakenly accused him of throwing stones at her house.

The court heard that “Scovia Muyekho willfully and unlawfully assaulted R. D., occasioning him bodily harm on September 27, 2021, at a residential area in Lindi within Kibera Sub-County.”

On the stated day, the minor R. D. was outside sitting on a rock. His mother was not around as she had gone running her daily errands.

Outside, there were some children playing and throwing some stones onto Muyekho’s house

She was irritated by the children’s behaviour so she dashed outside to warn them but they were long gone.

They were escaping Muyekho’s wrath.

The accused person found out that R.D. was the only one sitting outside and without confirming who exactly was pelting stones at her house, he bitterly accused him of something he allegedly did not do.

An enraged accused went inside her house only to approach the minor from behind and gave him hot slaps that sent him sprawling onto the ground.

R.D. ran to their house while crying and in much pain. His two teeth had loosened as a result of a slap impact.

R. D.’s mother arrived home later and found her son not feeling well.

The minor told her what had transpired and that the next-door neighbour was the one responsible.

The boy had difficulties in eating and six days after the incident, his uncle took him to the hospital whereby the shaky teeth were removed.

On October 3, R.D. was escorted by his mother to Kibera police station where they recorded the statement and the accused was apprehended and charged before Kibera Principal Magistrate Sharon Maroro.

She denied the claims saying that the complainant had agreed to withdraw the matter but Maroro could not approve the withdrawal since the victim was a minor.

Muyekho was released on a cash bail of ksh10,000 pending mention on October 25.
