Three arrested in Kasoa car theft syndicate case https://www.adomonline.com/three-arrested-in-kasoa-car-theft-syndicate-case/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 16:39:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2621146 The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects believed to be part of a coordinated car-stealing syndicate operating in Kasoa, Central Region.

The suspects—Douglas Kwame Akunnor, a steel bender; Emmanuel Aduah, a trader; and Richard Baidoo, an entrepreneur—were apprehended following investigations into the theft of a 2021 Hyundai Elantra, trade plate number DV 6060-W, belonging to a businessman at Kakraba near Kasoa.

Police said the incident occurred on November 24, 2025, after a suspect, Albert Akwasi Ofori, currently at large, contacted the car owner under the pretext of inspecting and purchasing the vehicle, which had been advertised for sale.

Although Ofori did not show up personally, he allegedly sent Douglas Akunnor and Emmanuel Aduah to complete the transaction.

The suspects presented a signed cheque valued at GH¢210,000, which initially reflected in the complainant’s bank account, prompting him to release the vehicle. The amount was later reversed, raising suspicion that he had been defrauded. Attempts to reach the suspects failed after they switched off their phones.

Police investigations led to Emmanuel Aduah’s arrest on January 2, 2026, in the Western Region while attempting to unlock his SIM card. Further interrogations resulted in the arrest of Douglas Akunnor, who admitted his role and explained the syndicate’s modus operandi.

Although the suspects initially failed to disclose the vehicle’s location, intelligence operations later led to its recovery at Nsakina. The car had been repainted from red to black and fitted with a fake registration number, GX 3856-21. Richard Baidoo, found in possession of the vehicle, was subsequently arrested.

All three suspects were arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on January 6, 2026, and have been remanded into custody, with a reappearance scheduled for January 28, 2026. Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the alleged mastermind, Albert Akwasi Ofori.

The Central East Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to arresting all accomplices and ensuring they face the full rigours of the law.

GWL disconnects Standard Water, others in crack down on illegal connections in Kasoa https://www.adomonline.com/gwl-disconnects-standard-water-others-in-crack-down-on-illegal-connections-in-kasoa/ Tue, 18 Nov 2025 11:17:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601309 The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has disconnected Standard Water Company and several commercial water operators in Kasoa after a joint enforcement exercise uncovered widespread illegal connections in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.

The operation, conducted with support from National Security personnel, revealed a 10-bedroom property fitted with an underground reservoir allegedly used to store water sourced illegally.

Investigators also discovered that Standard Water and another sachet water producer were accessing water through bypassed lines, evading payment entirely.

According to officials, many of the companies applied for domestic meters but later diverted the system using two-inch pipes to draw large volumes of water for commercial production without routing it through the meter.

GWL described the situation as a significant drain on its resources and a major factor contributing to supply challenges in the area.

Addressing the media, the Accra West Regional Communications Manager, Solace Akomeah, expressed alarm at the scale of the theft, stressing that those involved will face surcharges and possible prosecution.

She said the level of illegal connections in Kasoa is unacceptable and undermines efforts to ensure fair distribution of water to households and legitimate businesses.

Ghana Water Limited is urging residents to report suspected illegal connections, emphasising that community cooperation is vital to maintaining stable and equitable access to water.

The ongoing enforcement operation forms part of broader measures aimed at tackling supply issues and safeguarding the integrity of the water distribution network.

Ms. Akomeah appealed to the public to alert the utility or security agencies whenever they suspect water theft or meter bypassing in their communities.

Speaking at a press conference at the Kasoa Odupong Ofaakor Palace, Nai Atopi stressed that these communities are part of Awutu Ofaakor lands and not under the authority of Gomoa Fetteh.

He urged residents to disregard the recent announcement by the Sumankwahene of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Adama Amoaquandoh, which imposed a ban on drumming and noise-making from November 6 to 28, 2025.

“The people of Kasoa Ofaakor, Papaase, and Akweley are not under the Gomoa Fetteh Stool, so they should feel free to go about their normal activities, including drumming and noise-making,” Nai Atopi stated.

He warned residents not to be intimidated by individuals claiming authority from Gomoa Fetteh, describing such actions as an overreach.

Nai Atopi, who also serves as Chief of Awutu Kwashie Abbey and Boundary Chief of the Awutu Traditional Council, cautioned that anyone attempting to enforce the ban within Kasoa Ofaakor and its environs should be treated as a trespasser.

He further advised churches and residents to report anyone who tries to seize instruments or disrupt activities to the police, describing such individuals as “acting unlawfully and should be treated as thieves.”

Kasoa NDC Zongo Caucus slams leadership over appointment snub https://www.adomonline.com/kasoa-ndc-zongo-caucus-slams-leadership-over-appointment-snub/ Tue, 04 Nov 2025 16:22:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596231 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zongo Caucus in the Awutu Senya East Constituency, Kasoa, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the party’s local leadership, accusing them of sidelining loyal members in recent appointments.

According to the caucus, despite their significant contribution to the party’s electoral victory, they have been ignored by the constituency executives, Municipal Chief Executive Seth Banini, and Member of Parliament Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor.

At a press conference, the group alleged that key positions were given to individuals who contributed little or nothing to the NDC’s success. They further claimed that the MCE appointed an NPP sympathizer as his bodyguard and awarded National Security roles to outsiders, leaving committed party members without jobs.

Some members lamented that their families now ridicule them for remaining unemployed nearly a year after the elections. They also accused the CEO of the Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, of refusing to assist them in securing job opportunities.

The caucus warned that regional and national party executives should not hold them responsible if frustrations escalate into chaos in the constituency.

Kasoa Zongo Zonal Coordinator and branch chairman, Ismail Baddoo, stated that the Zongo communities delivered all 24 branches for the NDC and contributed over 2,500 votes to the party’s 5,000-vote victory margin. Yet, he said, none of their members has received any appointments.

Unmasking the environmental impact of sand winning on Kasoa and surrounding areas https://www.adomonline.com/unmasking-the-environmental-impact-of-sand-winning-on-kasoa-and-surrounding-areas/ Wed, 30 Jul 2025 15:44:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2561499 In the bustling urban sprawl of Kasoa and its environs, a silent battle rages beneath the surface, hidden from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Here, amidst the towering structures of West Hills Mall and the vibrant community of SCC (Sakaman-Carprice-Cape Coast Road), the practice of sand winning exacts a heavy toll on both the environment and the residents who call this place home.

Sand, the backbone of construction and development, lies at the heart of this conflict. Its extraction, though necessary for progress, comes at a steep price. The landscape, once pristine and untouched, now bears the scars of relentless exploitation. Weija, once a tranquil oasis, now finds itself at the mercy of unchecked sand winning, as sediment chokes its waterways and disrupts its delicate ecosystem.

The consequences of this environmental degradation are far-reaching, extending beyond the boundaries of Weija and into the heart of Kasoa and SCC. Here, the effects of sand winning manifest in the form of increased flooding during rainy seasons, as water struggles to find its natural course amidst the sediment-laden channels.

The West Hills Mall, a beacon of modernity in the midst of urban chaos, stands as a testament to human progress. Yet, its very foundations are threatened by the specter of recurrent flooding, a consequence of the unchecked extraction of sand from nearby waterways. As water levels rise, so too does the risk to both infrastructure and livelihoods, as businesses and homes alike find themselves submerged beneath the rising tide.

SCC, a vibrant community teeming with life and activity, bears witness to the human cost of environmental degradation. Here, residents face the dual threats of displacement and economic hardship as their homes and livelihoods are swept away by the relentless march of floodwaters. The very fabric of community life hangs in the balance, as families grapple with the uncertainty of an uncertain future.

To address these pressing issues, regulatory measures must be implemented to manage sand winning activities responsibly. This includes enforcing permits, monitoring extraction sites, and implementing sustainable extraction practices that minimize environmental impact. Collaboration with local authorities, such as the Ga South Municipal Assembly, is essential in enforcing these regulations effectively.

Yet, amidst the challenges, there lies a glimmer of hope. Through concerted efforts and sustainable practices, we can chart a new course towards a more resilient future. Kasoa, SCC, and the surrounding areas stand at a crossroads, poised to choose between destruction and preservation. It is up to us to heed the call of nature and forge a path towards a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow.

As the sands of time continue to shift, let us not forget the hidden costs that lie beneath. For in our quest for progress, we must never lose sight of the fragile ecosystems and communities that bear the burden of our actions. Only then can we truly pave the way towards a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

Currently, 46 patients are hospitalized and responding well to treatment, while the death toll remains at five, as reported last week. Of the total cases, 15 involve residents of Kasoa, with the remaining cases originating from nearby districts such as Gomoa East and Ga South.

Following a stakeholder meeting in Kasoa on Monday, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, outlined a comprehensive plan to ensure effective treatment and limit the spread of the disease, particularly within healthcare facilities.

He noted an improvement in the situation in the Ada area, where the outbreak initially started.

Dr. Aboagye also advised regional health departments to remain vigilant and implement preventive measures.

He urged the public to maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation, emphasizing practices such as frequent hand washing and ensuring that schools, workplaces, and marketplaces provide access to clean water and handwashing facilities.

“Let’s make sure we keep a sanitary environment around us, washing our hands regularly as we did during COVID. Schools, workplaces, and marketplaces should all prioritize cleanliness, so that even if someone contracts cholera, it doesn’t spread,” he stated.

Kasoa ritual killing: 18-year-old suspect sentenced to life imprisonment https://www.adomonline.com/kasoa-ritual-killing-18-year-old-suspect-sentenced-to-life-imprisonment/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 15:52:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2464098 The two teenagers standing trial for the killing of a ten-year-old in Kasoa have been found guilty of counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The two committed the offence in 2021 and have since been on trial.

It has taken three years since the gory incident for the High Court to conclude the trial and return a verdict.

The second accused, Nicholas Kini, who was 18 years old at the time of the incident, has been sentenced to life in prison.

The first accused, who was 15 years old at the time of the incident, has, however, been sent to the juvenile court for sentencing because the High Court does not have the authority to sentence him.

Facts of the case

According to testimony from investigators, the first accused admitted during interrogation that the idea to kill the deceased came after he chanced on a video of a spiritualist who promised to help people make money by depositing GH¢5,000.

In furtherance of this, he is said to have confessed that he contacted the second accused, Nicholas Kini, who suggested they place a call on the fetish priest.

The fetish priest is said to have demanded the GH¢5000 and human blood.

According to the first accused, the second accused thus recommended the killing of the deceased in fulfilment of the request.

The plan, however, was to first kidnap him and demand GH¢5,000 as ransom from his parents.

The deceased is then said to have been lured by the first accused to the uncompleted building under the pretext that he had bought him a game.

Upon asking the deceased to pick up the game, he was first struck on the head with a stick and later struck with cement blocks when he pleaded for mercy.

The deceased was then buried alive as the pathologist explained that the cause of death was failure to breathe.

Prosecutions case

The prosecution called its first witness in March 2023 and called seven witnesses in all.

The seven witnesses are the father of deceased Ishmael Abdallah, the father of the first accused, his mother and sister. The state also called three police officers as witnesses, including the detective who handled the case and the pathologist at the Police Hospital who handled the post-mortem.

In helping the prosecution build its case, the father of the deceased testified that he had returned from a work trip the morning before the incident. Shortly after he had breakfast with the family, including the deceased, he took a nap. His nap was, however, cut short by screams of his wife announcing the death of his son.

He confirmed finding the body of his son at an uncompleted building opposite the house of the first accused.

The sister of the first accused testified that she saw his brother, and the second accused, Nicholas Kini, at the uncompleted building when she went to urinate but was sacked by the first accused.

Being suspicious, she informed her mother, who later notified the first accused‘s father.

Father of the first accused, Richard Mensah, testified that he uncovered the body of the accused in the uncompleted building.

He further revealed in court that his son confessed to killing Ishmael together with Nicholas Kini.

The police also testified that the second accused at the police station also confessed to striking the head of the deceased with a club.

Case of Accused Persons

The first accused person, who was 15 at the time of the offence in his defence, admitted to killing Ishmael Abdallah together with the second accused.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy and not guilty to the charge of murder.

The second accused, on the other hand, who was 18 at the time of the alleged offence, denied involvement and pleaded not guilty to both offences of conspiracy and murder.

He accused the first accused of setting him up and explained that he was not at the scene of the crime.

He listed his grandfather as an Alibi but the judge, in her summing up the case to the jury, noted that there was no evidence to prove that his grandfather could corroborate his claims that he was with him and not at the crime scene.

Final Address to the Jury

The state ahead of jury deliberations urged the jury to find the two guilty, as the evidence submitted proves the guilt of the two for both murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Their lawyers, however, prayed to the court to find their clients not guilty.

Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, in summing up the case, urged the jury to uphold the conscience of the nation.

The seven-member jury, after deliberations, returned a guilty verdict for both.

A number of container shops with consumables, along with a furniture showroom around the church worth millions of cedis were destroyed.

Eye witness accounts confirmed that the fire started around 5:30pm soon after a welding work which was allegedly carried out by one of the shop owners.

After failed efforts by shop owners to quench they called the Ghana National Fire Service station at Kasoa  who also called for two additional fire tenders from Weija and Buduburam to help battle the inferno.

It took the fire men an hour to bring the fire under control which was fast spreading towards a nearby fuel station.

In the process, one of the fire tenders caught fire but the quick response by the fire fighters averted the near disaster.

A visit by Myjoynline saw affected victims counting their losses while sympathizers had gathered in small groups discussing the incident.

Founder and Leader of the church, Prophet Elisha Bismack Boison who was at the scene with some members of his congregation to asses the extent of damage, said the church has lost everything including furniture and a set of musical instruments valued at millions of Ghana cedis.

According to him the incident occurred at the church’s off worship day.

Prophet Elisha Bismack Boison blamed the person who carried out the work which has resulted in the catastrophe.

Emelia Sakpo, a drinking bar operator said she is running her business with a bank loan and said her inability to service the loan may land her in trouble. Emelia is therefore calling on the government to come to their aid.

Princess Anan who deals in baby diapers and other consumable items narrated that only a day before the fire incident, she ordered new goods which all burnt together with the sales she had made.

Princess said she was in her shop when the fire caused havoc so she had to run away, leaving everything behind.

Rita Aklade who runs a fashion shop close to the church thanked the fire service personnel for working so hard to prevent the fire from entering her shop.

Rita said she was troubled and anxious as she watched on when the fire was spreading to her shop, adding that she recovered when the fire service personnel appeared on the scene.

She called on the government to as a matter of urgency provide the Ghana National Fire Service with advanced equipment to enable them do more.

The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit at the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, DOVVSU Department, led by DSP Doris Laryea has arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing a baby at Kasoa Ofaakor.

The suspects are: Magdalene Nana Adwoa Boafo, 28, Faustina Binney, 32, and Eunice Koomson, 36, a teacher at Ebenezer High Academy, a private basic school in Ofaakor.

Police sources say, Nana Adwoa Boafo, the prime suspect, approached the mother of the baby, Abigail Addison who was eight months pregnant and was selling pure water in traffic at Ofaakor in the Awutu Senya East municipality.

She offered to assist her financially and ensure she delivers safely.

She later introduced her to the other two suspects, Eunice Koomson and Faustina Binney, who pretended to be offering genuine support but had ulterior motives.

Police report said to cover up their intentions, the suspects rented an apartment for Abigail at Kasoa Lamptey, a suburb of Adam Nana Electoral Area.

They continued to offer 29-year-old a little support until she delivered at the Kasoa Polyclinic on July 10, 2024.

Kasoa is a time bomb waiting to explode – Security expert https://www.adomonline.com/kasoa-is-a-time-bomb-waiting-to-explode-security-expert/ Mon, 06 May 2024 12:42:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2390517 A security expert, Dr Jones Opoku Ware has warned that the Kasoa area in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, is like a powder keg waiting to explode, as it harbours a criminal subculture that has the potential to undermine public safety.

Dr Jones Opoku Ware is asking authorities to take swift and decisive action before the situation spirals out of control.

His comments come in the wake of a tragic incident involving a military officer, L/Cpl. Danso Michael who was recently killed reportedly over a land dispute incident at Millennium City, Kasoa.

The only suspect arrested so far has been identified as Benlord Ababio, and he’s believed to be a landguard.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM show on May 6, 2024, he stated that “Kasoa is a place like a time bomb waiting to explode because this is an area where the characteristics as we have it have created the criminal subculture.

“There are even places in the area where people dare not pass there at certain times of the day. We have certain elements and gangs who have declared certain portions of these places unto themselves, and there are areas where they forbid people to use those places because they think they have the power to control those areas.

“When you have a subculture that has been built within a period in certain areas, it sends a certain psychological effect into the minds of the people that for these areas we are on our own and we have no protection, and that is what we have manifested in the Kasoa area,”he said.

Dr Opoku Ware pointed to his research on crimes in Kasoa between 2017 and 2022, which revealed that land guards commonly sell parcels of land to multiple individuals, resulting in violent confrontations over ownership.

He also accused local police of being aware of these unscrupulous sale practices and yet failing to take preventive measures to ensure public safety and deter further conflicts, thereby exacerbating the situation.

“Because look, if you look at the crime statistics, though, as a criminologist, I do not rely solely on crime statistics because of what we call the dark figure, I think that the patterns as demonstrated by the police data itself should send shivers down the spines of every security agency operating within that firm.

“This is not something that we have to just sit on. The guy who has been arrested for having committed the crime, I am sure that the people in the area know him.

“I am sure his activity is known to people within the area, so why is it that the police over the period have not gone in for this guy for them to wait for somebody to be murdered, then say we have moved in, and we have the security operating with that kind of system? It creates a problem for everybody, and that is what we have to look at,” he noted.

Michael Nelson is being held over publication of false news and causing unlawful harm.

Nelson is said to have raised alarm falsely that his penis was shrunken and accused Safiru Bohari, a nail technician, the complainant, as the one who caused it.

Due to the accused person’s false alarm, Bohari was beaten up mercilessly by some.

The court did not take the plea of Nelson.

He is expected to reappear before the court presided over by Naomi Kontuor on April 11, 2024.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Sarfo and Chief Inspector Bernice Wie Kpuusu, told the court that the complainant was a resident of Lawyer, suburb of Kasoa, whiles the accused person resided at Millenium City in Kasoa.

On March 27, 2024, the prosecution said at about 3:15pm, the complainant, whiles on his normal rounds cutting nails for interested persons came to Millennium City Estate and sat under a mango tree to take some rest.

The prosecution said Nelson, who resided in the area on seeing the complainant advanced towards him.

The court heard that Nelson without any cause started accusing the complainant of having caused his pennis to shrink.

The prosecution said the accused person suddenly raised alarm, which attracted people within the neighbourhood.

The prosecutor told the court that Nelson made the people to believe that that the complainant was responsible for the shrinking of his penis.

The prosecution said the people together with the accused person without any enquiry subjected the complainant to severe beatings and he sustained various degree of injuries on his body.

The court heard that a medical report form was issued to the complainant.

The prosecution said Nelson was escorted to the Kasoa Polyclinic for examination and treatment.

According to the prosecutor, when Nelson was examined by a medical officer on duty, his manhood was “stable” and had no “defect” contrary to the accused person’s claim.

“Nonetheless, he was given medication. The complainant on the other hand was also treated and discharged,” the prosecution said.

Woman on verge of losing finger after buying ring from friend https://www.adomonline.com/woman-on-verge-of-losing-finger-after-buying-ring-from-friend/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 17:32:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2270735 In a distressing incident that unfolded in Kasoa, located in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, Faustina Richter, a 35-year-old woman, finds herself on the brink of losing a finger.

This was after purchasing a wedding ring from a close friend to replace her lost one.

Faustina shared her harrowing experience with Adom News, revealing that she had lost her original ring several months ago and opted to acquire a replacement from a friend who trades in jewelry.

Although the ring felt slightly tight on her finger, she disregarded it, assuming it was due to her extended break from wearing one.

“We were attending a funeral on Saturday, so I decided to wear the new ring. However, upon our return, I found myself unable to remove it,” Faustina recounted.

The following day, she awoke to discover her finger had swelled significantly, and all her attempts to extricate the ring proved futile.

It was not until medical professionals from Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital intervened, supported by fervent prayers from a group of pastors, that the ring could finally be cut off.

Nii Aryee Richster, Faustina’s husband, expressed his shock upon witnessing the condition of his wife’s finger.

“It seemed as though her finger had been shackled. I applied shea butter numerous times, but it had no effect. We even attempted using a hacksaw blade, which proved unsuccessful. Eventually, we resorted to a padlock cutter to remove the ring. It was an incredibly unusual situation, but we are grateful to God that it has now been resolved,” he added.
