The reaction follows the Minister’s announcement that MultiChoice had agreed to what he described as an “unprecedented increased value offer” for Ghanaian subscribers—an initiative highlighted by government as a major concession to improve services.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Mr. Abdulai argued that the Minister’s confrontational stance weakened the negotiations.

“To my brother Sam George, talk is cheap. You can do all the talking and raise your muscles, but trust that people stand by the law. When investors come into this country, they look for top lawyers, tax experts, and marketing specialists. That is a serious investor’s approach. So when you come up with threats, they don’t care. They will consult their people, and the whole thing becomes like a fight,” he said.

He added that the Minister could have leveraged public support instead of issuing threats.

“At least he was lucky because the public was with him. All he needed to do was to engage the public and find a way to have them communicate their support to DStv. When they see that, they know the public is serious. But he didn’t do that. Instead, he came out with threats, only to later announce that subscribers would get more channels. Does more channels mean lower fees?” he questioned.
