The children of the late former Ejisu Member of Parliament(MP) John Kumah, have paid a glowing tribute to his good humour and unfailing courtesy.

Following a brief illness, the 45-year-old lawmaker passed away on March 7, leaving behind a wife and six children.

The six children on Saturday, May 18 joined scores at their father’s final funeral rites to bid farewell at Ejisu-Onwe.

The children in a tribute said their late father was a “beacon of hope, a revolutionary thinker” whose absence, they say, has left an irreplaceable void in their heart.

According to them, they will fondly remember him as a source of warmth, love, and a pillar of support to them, their mother, and many that came into contact with him.

“For us his children, there is no doubt that he was the chosen one of this generation, a beacon of hope, a revolutionary thinker, and a steadfast addict for his beloved Ghana.

“Today, we are gathered here with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a remarkable man. As we stand here in solemn remembrance, we celebrate a life that touched so many, a life that will forever be cherished in our hearts.

The late lawmaker’s daughter, Huldah Boatemaa Kumah, who read the tribute on behalf of her siblings acknowledged that they witnessed their father impact many lives even at their young ages.

“Our father was more than just a father, he was a beacon of strength, wisdom, and love. His presence filled our lives with warmth and guidance, and his absence leaves an irreplaceable void. We have not grown as children but for the years that we saw him as our father, we have witnessed the hundreds of lives that he has touched.

“As we reflect on our father’s life, we are reminded of his unwavering dedication to his family. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a pillar of support to all who knew him, his love knew no bounds, and his kindness knew no limits,” they mourned.

Miss Kumah also described her late father as “a man of unparalleled courage and conviction,” who she said “was not just a leader, he was a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration to all who knew him.”

Former Ejisu Member of Parliament (MP), John Kumah who tragically passed away after a short illness on March 7 has been laid to rest.

The funeral took place at Onwe, a suburb of Ejisu in the Ashanti region, where his one-week observation was also held.

This was after he was laid in state for viewing and filing past at the Onwie Roman Catholic School Park and interred at the Aduapakye Royal Cemetery.

Ejisu was wrapped in red and black as mourners from all walks of life thronged to the town to pay their last respects to the 45-year-old lawmaker who was also a deputy Finance Minister.

Solemn tears and heartfelt tributes were poured at the burial service by government functionaries, family and constituents in his honour.

A Thanksgiving service will be held in his honour on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Onwie Roman Catholic School Park.

Government and leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were in attendance at the burial service.

Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Chief of Staff were in attendance to represent the government as well as the Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei Asare.

The national chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim and the Ashanti Regional NPP chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako and a host of others were also present.

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has opened up on the crucial role late former Ejisu Member of Parliament (MP) Dr John Ampontuah Kumah played in his presidential ambition.

The Vice President has said late Dr Kumah was very supportive and encouraged him throughout the process.

This to him made the former MP’s death on March 7, 2024, a big blow to him.

Dr Bawumia disclosed this in a tribute at the funeral of the former Deputy Finance Minister at Onwe-Ejisu on Saturday.

He recounted being on campaign tours with the deceased nationwide, demonstrating his commitment to his presidential ambition.

“His sudden death in March has been a personal blow. Long before I decided to run for president, Hon. John Kumah was among the few party leaders and legislators to have publicly urged me to run and pledged his unending support.

“Through his public pledge, John supported me strongly, campaigning with me everywhere in the country,” he mourned.

Dr Bawumia lauded the 45-year-old lawmaker’s initiatives aimed at youth empowerment and his dedication to Ghana’s development, leaving an indelible mark.

“His initiatives focused on empowering the youth and looking for a brighter future for Ghana’s next generation. His commitment to the national development programme remains indelible and has left an enduring mark on the country’s trajectory.

“He was also a lawyer of good standing, in that area too he was brilliant, diligent and professional in dealings with his clients,” he eulogised.

Dr Bawumia was part of thousands of mourners, including political leaders who joined John Kumah’s family to pay their last respects.

He is survived by his wife and six children.

It was a solemn moment when family, friends and sympathizers gathered for the final funeral rites of late Ejisu Member of Parliament (MP), John Kumah.

People wept as mourners thronged the venue, the Ejisu-Onwe Roman Catholic School Parki in the Ashanti Region to commiserate with the family.

But the late MP’s widow, Apostle Mrs Lilian Ampontuah Kumah was inconsolable as she filed past her husband’s mortal remains.

Attempt by some sympathisers to comfort her proved futile.
