In a statement issued on Thursday, November 20, Chief Inspector Francis Kwaru Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Volta Regional Police Command, said the Ho Circuit Court authorised the disposal after the exhibits had been presented in evidence.

Ho stakeholders threaten legal action against newly installed Chief Imam https://www.adomonline.com/ho-stakeholders-threaten-legal-action-against-newly-installed-chief-imam/ Sun, 02 Nov 2025 19:22:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2595308 Tensions within the Ho Muslim community in the Volta region have escalated as a group of concerned stakeholders has vowed to initiate legal proceedings against a newly installed Regional Chief Imam and the Asogli State.

The group accused the Asogli traditional authorities of overstepping their mandate in a matter they insist is purely religious and not hereditary.

The group in a press conference on Saturday, November 1, after the installation of the Imam, Ali Muniru, noted that the installation at the Asogli Palace violates Islamic principles and ongoing judicial processes.

Alhaji Ali Muniru was installed on Saturday, November 1, at the forecourt of the Asogli Palace in Ho.

According to the stakeholders, the leadership dispute is before the High Court in Ho, and the installation of a new Imam outside the legal process represents a challenge to due process and community cohesion.

“We shall not hesitate to take legal action against the said installed Imam and the Asogli State for meddling in a religious matter that does not fall within traditional jurisdiction,” said, Osumanu Musa Abiaduka.

The dispute is a long-standing confrontation between two factions competing for the position: the Deputy and Acting Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas, and Ali Muniru, who traces his lineage to a former Chief Imam who passed away decades ago.

The Youth Leader of the community, Sahaliu Mohammed Kidza at the press conference said “Imamship is not hereditary, and it is not a traditional position.”

He explained that Alhaji Alfa Anas served as deputy to the late Chief Imam and is currently acting in that capacity.

He said, according to Islamic practice, he is therefore qualified to become the substantive Imam and should not be expected to continue serving under a newly appointed leader.

Ho Muslim folks at the press conference

The group expressed disappointment that the Volta Regional Minister is alleged to have supported the installation despite the case being sub judice.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their recognition of the long-serving Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas, noting his leadership and service to the Muslim community for more than seventeen years.

“We all know Alhaji Alfa Anas as the Regional Chief Imam of Volta Region, and he has been performing his role with dignity for over 17 years,” Osumanu Musa Abiaduka stated.

They emphasised that the matter is a religious affair governed by Islamic structures, not traditional authority.

The Ho Central Mosque

They called for calm within the Muslim community while signalling readiness to pursue justice through the courts.

“We urge all Muslims in Ho to remain peaceful. We have full confidence in the judiciary to deliver fairness. We shall defend our faith, our laws and our unity through legitimate channels,” he said.

Highlighting on the theme for the 5th Annual conference, Dr Dr. Kwame Buabeng stated that the “This year’s theme couldn’t have come at a better time as we hope to position the private health sector in a manner to fully drive the benefits ghis policy has to offer” He stated.

Held under the theme “Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Sustainable Fisheries and Livestock Development,” the event brought together young people, policymakers, researchers, farmers, and industry stakeholders to exchange ideas, experiences, and strategies for building resilient and sustainable agri-food systems.

The forum aimed to empower young people to take an active role in addressing challenges within the fisheries and livestock sectors, particularly in the context of climate change, resource management, innovation, and food security.

Participants engaged in panel discussions, workshops, and breakout sessions covering topics such as sustainable aquaculture, livestock health, feed production, value chain development, and youth entrepreneurship.

Experts from government agencies, academia, and development organisations provided insights into best practices, policy frameworks, and investment opportunities.

In her opening remarks, Abigail Kanyi, a representative from the FAO, emphasised the critical role of youth in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to zero hunger, decent work, and responsible consumption and production.

She explained that the dialogue builds on previous efforts and is designed with three clear objectives; to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed for agribusiness management, value addition, and access to finance; to create a platform for direct engagement between youth, policymakers, private sector players, and development partners; and to strengthen networks and partnerships that promote inclusive and sustainable growth within the livestock and fisheries sectors.

She added that by the end of the dialogue, the organizers expect tangible outcomes such as practical youth-led action plans, stronger partnerships between young people and key institutions, expanded market and policy opportunities, and greater recognition of youth as vital contributors to building a resilient food system for Ghana.

She encouraged the participants to take ownership of the process, share their ideas boldly, and build the networks that will help turn their visions into reality.

She concluded by saying, “With your creativity and determination, you can transform Ghana’s agrifood systems into inclusive, sustainable engines of growth. Together with government, traditional leaders, and civil society, we will continue to walk with you to build a resilient future for livestock and fisheries. The future is in your hands. Let us make bold, sustainable, and youth-led. ” Abigail Kanyi said.

The event also featured innovation showcases and success stories from young agripreneurs who are already making significant contributions to sustainable food systems in their communities.

Mr Anthony Aidoo, Chairman of the World Food Forum Ghana, also in an interview with Adom News Correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job, highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration among stakeholders, including government, private sector, civil society, and youth, to ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of Ghana’s agriculture sector.

Helicopter crash: Volta Regional Coordinating Council holds vigil in memory of victims https://www.adomonline.com/helicopter-crash-volta-regional-coordinating-council-holds-vigil-in-memory-of-victims/ Mon, 11 Aug 2025 11:59:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2565764 On the night of 10th August 2025, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), and residents of the Volta Region held a vigil in remembrance of the eight Ghanaians who, while on national assignment, tragically lost their lives in the helicopter crash that occurred in Akrofu in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, 6th August 2025.

The event brought together members of the NDC and NPP, the clergy, various security personnel, traditional leaders, heads of decentralized departments, chief imams, and the general public.

Speaking at the program, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu described the eight persons as individuals who served the country diligently, with truth and humility.

Emphasizing Dr. Omane Boamah, he explained how he worked tirelessly to bring the NDC to power.

“Dr. Omane Boamah was our national election and IT director, with whom we worked closely during the last election. He brought his medical expertise and experience to bear on our national architecture and helped demystify the rumor that the NDC did not consolidate its election results in 2020.

He diagnosed our electoral architecture and found solutions, and in the 2024 election, we consolidated our results in a timely manner, and today, we are in power,” James Gunu stated.

He also described Murtala Mohammed as a man of integrity with the ‘Building Ghana Agenda’ at heart.

On his part, the Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, emphasized the deceased’s professionalism and discipline in their work before their tragic death, urging commitment towards resetting Ghana’s agenda.

“What we should take from their death is that we must commit to the progress and reset of this country,” Mawutor Agbavitor said.

He further condemned the act of galamsey and called for a stop to all galamsey activities in respect of their memories.

“One of the major issues confronting us as a country today is the menace of galamsey. It is sad that people must lose their lives in the fight against galamsey, yet irresponsible mining continues. If you have a conscience and think about anything good for this country and your children, and yet you still engage in irresponsible mining, it’s a shame to you,” Mawutor Agbavitor stated.

He seized the opportunity to entreat all Ghanaians to continue to pray for the deceased, their families, and the entire country, and also remember that discipline and commitment to duty are golden truths that must guide us.

The program ended with the laying of wreaths by the Volta Regional Minister, the chief imam, the NDC Volta Regional Chairman, the Direct Dean of the 66th Artillery Regiment (Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim), and representatives from the Ho Teaching Hospital.

James Gunu urges residents to brace themselves if water doesn’t flow by Saturday https://www.adomonline.com/james-gunu-urges-residents-to-brace-themselves-if-water-doesnt-flow-by-saturday/ Thu, 06 Feb 2025 13:55:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2501562 Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has urged residents to prepare for continued water shortages if normal supply is not restored by Saturday.

“This is a very serious situation, and we are doing everything possible to assist residents, particularly by providing water through tankers,” Mr. Gunu explained.

“We have deployed a significant number of tankers from the district assemblies and the regional coordinating council, which have provided vital relief, especially to hospitals,” he said.

The tanker water distribution will continue throughout the week, with scheduled deliveries on Thursday and Friday, until the Ghana Water Company can resume normal supply.

Mr. Gunu expressed optimism that the company would stick to the timeline they’ve set for restoring services.

“We remain hopeful that the Ghana Water Company will fulfil their commitment to resuming supply by Saturday,” he said.

“However, if the supply is not restored by then, it will become increasingly difficult to manage the situation. We will need further support, and we must be prepared for any additional delays.”

He reassured residents that local authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

“I will be checking in with the Ghana Water Company again on Friday to ensure they are on track to meet their deadline,” he noted. “We remain hopeful, but we must stay prepared for any eventuality.”

As the region continues to deal with the water shortage, Mr. Gunu called for patience from residents while authorities work to resolve the issue and provide much-needed relief.

Ho Water Crisis: Cost of Expanding Water Pump Will Be About $52M

Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Minister has revealed that expanding Ho’s water supply system will cost approximately $52 million, according to estimates from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, Mr. Gunu stressed the need for a long-term solution to the city’s water crisis. He stated that while the estimated cost is significant, the expansion must be designed to accommodate Ho’s rapidly growing population.

Ho Water Crisis: Cost of expanding water pump will be about $52m – Regional Minister https://www.adomonline.com/ho-water-crisis-cost-of-expanding-water-pump-will-be-about-52m-regional-minister/ Thu, 06 Feb 2025 13:52:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2501534 The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has revealed that expanding Ho’s water supply system will cost approximately $52 million, according to estimates from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, Mr. Gunu stressed the need for a long-term solution to the city’s water crisis. He stated that while the estimated cost is significant, the expansion must be designed to accommodate Ho’s rapidly growing population.

“In 1992/1993, when this facility was constructed, Ho had a population of about 5,000, but today, it is over 250,000, and the demand is over 30,000 meters. If we are planning for the future, we must consider a population of over 500,000,” he said.

He noted that Ho’s increasing number of universities, other educational institutions, and other developments are driving rapid population growth, making it crucial to ensure a sustainable water supply.

While acknowledging the high cost, Mr. Gunu expressed hope that donor partners would provide grants to support the expansion. He emphasised that proper planning is necessary to prevent future shortages and meet the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation.

“It is very expensive, but we hope that other donor partners will come in, and let’s see whether we can get some grants to enable the Ghana Water Company to expand this facility so that we can have a sustainable supply of water to serve the growing population of Ho and its environs.”

“The technical experts in charge must help the government expand this facility so we can ensure a sustainable water supply for Ho and its surrounding areas,” he added.

Ho residents face water shortages again after GWCL’s Kpeve headworks breaks down https://www.adomonline.com/ho-residents-face-water-shortages-again-after-gwcls-kpeve-headworks-breaks-down/ Thu, 30 Jan 2025 13:23:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2498904 Residents of Ho and its surrounding areas are grappling with another water supply disruption following the breakdown of a shaft at the Ghana Water Company Limited’s (GWCL) Kpeve Headworks on Tuesday, January 30.

This marks the third such failure in recent months, leaving communities that had only recently regained supply without water once again.

Water flow had resumed just a week ago after repairs to a previous breakdown at the Kpeve Headworks.

The recurring issue has left residents frustrated, with many calling on GWCL to implement a long-term solution.

In a statement signed by Regional Production Manager Ing. Ransford Nii Djan Amoo, GWCL assured residents that engineers are working tirelessly to repair the fault and restore supply as soon as possible.

Residents, however, fear that prolonged shortages will continue to disrupt their lives unless a permanent fix is implemented.

Water shortage hits Ho https://www.adomonline.com/water-shortage-hits-ho/ Sat, 04 Jan 2025 16:09:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2490025 Residents in the Volta Regional capital of Ho have since New Year’s Day been trooping to old well sites and abandoned boreholes, desperately in search of water.

This follows a fault in one of the pumps at the Kpeve Water Headworks on the eve of the new year, affecting water supply to the regional capital.

The situation has also affected water supply to other areas, including Peki, Have, Bame, Akrofu, Ziavi, and Klefe.

On Thursday (January 2), the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in a statement assured that the emergency response team was working tirelessly to repair the fault and restore water supply as soon as possible.

As of Saturday morning (January 4), some of the wells from which the people drew water, had dried up, compounding the problem.

The company’s engineers from Tema and Kpong are said to have joined their colleagues in the Volta Region to help to fix the problem.

The situation has also affected the operations of chop bars and other businesses, as the town has virtually dried.

Some residents near Sokode-Lokoe, including men, women and children, as of Saturday morning, were running to the premises of a bagged water company to fetch the waste water running through the drain.

Others travelled to nearby villages with jerry cans, in hired vehicles, to scoop water from muddy and drying streams.

Several attempts by Graphic Online to contact he authorities of GWCL in the past few days have turned fruitless.

The major health facilities in the regional capital are now relying on their reservoirs for water.

Meanwhile, public outcry over the situation is soaring.

2024 Women in Agribusiness week celebration held in Ho https://www.adomonline.com/2024-women-in-agribusiness-week-celebration-held-in-ho/ Mon, 28 Oct 2024 18:29:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465419 The 2024 Women in Agribusiness Week alongside an awards event has been held in Ho, the regional capital of the Volta Region.

In an interview with Adom News, Nana Adjoa A. Sifa, Initiator and Lead at Guzakuza said, this year’s event comes at a crucial time.

This is because Africa’s food systems face unprecedented challenges with rising food insecurity, unequal access to resources, and a global push for agricultural innovation, and therefore they are gathering to discuss what isn’t often talked about.

She added that agriculture remains the backbone of our economies, yet systematic barriers, gender biases, and outdated practices continue to prevent African women from fully harnessing their potential in Agribusiness.

The theme for the 2024 celebration is “Connecting Women: Connecting African Food Systems.”

Nana Adjoa emphasised that the theme isn’t just about networking but a call to dismantle the barriers that hold African women back.

She said currently, over 60% of African women rely on agriculture for their livelihoods, yet they own less than 20% of the land.

Despite this, women produce nearly 80% of African’s food, operating with fewer resources, less support, and limited access to modern technologies.

Meanwhile, African import over $50 billion worth of food annually, raising critical questions about food sovereignty and economic independence.

“At this year’s event, we are not shying away from tough discussions. We will examine policies that hinder women’s progress, confront controversial practices affecting our food security, and reimagine a food system where African women lead, innovate, and thrive. Through meaningful collaboration, we can challenge these issues head-on. Together, we can aim to create a food system that truly serves African–one that is equitable, resilient, and self-sustaining,” Nana Adjoa A. Sifa said.

The Paramount Queen mother of Nafi Traditional Area, also Vice President of Volta Region Queen Mother’s Association and President of Mafi Queen Mother’s Association, Mama Sename lll, called on traditional authorities to release lands for the Women who are willing to go into Agribusiness for them to produce more food for the nation.

Augustus Awiti, delivering a speech on behalf of the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa also pledged the coordinating directorates commitment to the Women in Agribusiness to help produce more food in the country.

The Women in Agribusiness Week and Awards 2024 is proudly brought by GuzaKuza, an organisation with a steadfast commitment to inspire women to build resilient agribusiness across Africa.

Since its inception, Guzakuza has championed the voices and visions of African women in Agribusiness, inspiring them to thrive as changemqkers within their communities and beyond.

Their programmes like Ignite, shefarms, MentorHer, GWAT, and Hervoice have equipped women with the skills, resources, and networks to turn their Agribusiness dreams into impactful ventures.

Photos: One District, One Warehouse facility turns into a white elephant in Ho https://www.adomonline.com/photos-one-district-one-warehouse-facility-turns-into-a-white-elephant-in-ho/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 11:56:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2463974 The Akufo-Addo-led government has spent millions of cedis of taxpayers’ money to construct warehouses across the country under the well-known One District, One Warehouse (1D1W) initiative.

1D1W was one of the many laudable initiatives that President Akufo-Addo and his officials promised to Ghanaians.

The warehouses are built in deserving districts across the country; however, in some areas, the intended purpose of these projects has not been achieved after their completion.

Most of the projects, after completion, are neither commissioned nor handed over to the local authorities, and construction in some districts has been abandoned.

In Ho, the Volta regional capital, the large warehouse is about 90% completed but has been left to deteriorate. The facility has become a habitat for reptiles, and some areas have been damaged by heat waves.

During a recent visit to the site, weeds were growing around the building, and some portions had been cultivated with cassava and maize.

The road leading to the site is also impassable. A man who identified himself as a Togolese national claims to be the security guard monitoring the facility; however, he declined to answer questions.

They are Abubakar Munkaila, 23, student and first accused and Abdul Kadir, 22, driver.

The court presided over by Albert Annor Owusu was told that the homicidal act took place at the Zongo at about 10 p.m. on August 5 this year.

The prosecution said the accused pointed at the deceased as the one who took a money box from their room earlier in the day.

Later, when the first accused spotted the deceased near a pub close to the Zongo, he pounced on him and subjected him to severe beatings in a bid to extract a confession from him.

At the pub, the first accused informed the second accused of what had happened.

Soon after that, the first accused was informed on the phone that the deceased was fleeing the Zongo with his belongings. Subsequently, the two went after him, caught up with him and started beating him.

The court was told that while the first accused used his bare hands to beat the deceased, the second accused used a belt to maul him. They then left him unconscious, bleeding profusely from his mouth and nostrils, the prosecution added.

Hospital

The court was further told two men from the Zongo rushed the deceased to the Ho Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The hospital alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the accused persons the next day, the court heard. The prosecution said the two men in their caution statements admitted to beating the deceased.

The court remanded them in prison custody until October 15. The body of the deceased, which was identified as Marwan Alhassan, has since been buried.

Ho residents alarmed by the construction of LPG filling station in residential area https://www.adomonline.com/ho-residents-alarmed-by-the-construction-of-lpg-filling-station-in-residential-area/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 09:19:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2321983 Some concerned residents in Hofedo, a suburb of Ho have raised concerns about the construction of a Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) filling station in a residential area.

According to them, constructing the station in a residential and very close to an electricity transformer increases the risk factor of a disaster in the enclave.

The residents are therefore pleading with the authorities to prohibit the developer from going ahead with the project to ensure the safety of their lives and properties.

Hofedo, one of the newly developed suburbs which sprang up in the 1990s, lies on the North Eastern side of the Volta Regional capital, Ho.

The suburb serves as home to hundreds of residents and harbors some businesses, educational institutions, and churches.

However, the new development in the area has injected fear into the residents.

A resident, Godsway Gboto explained that, they noticed a group of artisans started erecting a fence around a land which lies along the main street and had been left idle for a period.

He said that after carefully studying the scope of work, they arrived at the conclusion the developer was constructing an LPG filling station.

“We approached the workers and asked them but they denied, and failed to direct us to the financier of the project”, he said.

JoyNews investigations revealed that the investor was given a permit to construct a liquid petroleum gas station in the residential area in 2018.

A move to begin construction in the past was heavily objected by the residents.

The Assembly member for the area, Bewiadzi Samuel said they had reported the issue to the assembly officials who promised to work on their concerns.

It is, however, surprising that the developer has decided to go ahead with the project after 5 years.

The residents are alarmed because the station is in close proximity to homes, while an electricity transformer is situated at the entrance of the site.

They fear the least form of disaster may ravage their homes and destroy their lifetime properties.

“I own a mechanic shop at the back, if they set up a gas filling station, and any disaster happens, I will be indebted because the cars of my clients will get burnt. That is why we are pleading with the government. We do not agree with the setting of the filling station”, Eric Atsu, a mechanic lamented.

“We are begging that, wherever this permit is coming from, they should stop him. He can do other projects but as for the gas, we don’t agree. When disaster struck, it could sweep through the entire community all the way to the Barracks”, Laura Anyomi, said.

An octogenarian, Juliana Anyomi, who shares boundaries with the station says her heart has never been at rest, after learning of the construction of the LPG station.

“I was the first to settle here and later a lot of people started coming which I was so enthused about until the setting up of the gas filling station started to scare me. I am begging the government to consider me and stop the project, if not, I will die. I am already suffering, my heart is not at peace because of this issue”, she said.

Police’ shocking revelation about kidnapping in Ho https://www.adomonline.com/police-shocking-revelation-about-kidnapping-in-ho/ Tue, 13 Oct 2020 13:53:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1866519 Ho Municipal Police Directorate investigations have revealed that the alleged kidnapping incident at Area 52, a suburb in the Municipality, is a hoax and a ‘cooked’ story by the victim and his friend.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alexander Yeboah, in-charge of the Command, on Tuesday said the two carefully planned the purported incident to outwit being punished for staying out to play.

The alleged victim, a 14-year-old Junior High School pupil and his accomplice, a 12-year-old, hatched the plan to court sympathy and avoid punishment at home after the victim left home on a play adventure on Friday at about 09:30 hours and only returned after 16:30 hours.

He said the victim confessed to the Police investigation team he connived with his friend to stage the story.

Mr Yeboah said since the victims in the matter are juveniles, the Police would review a corresponding punishment for such incidents while holding them.

Meanwhile, residents of the Municipality are calling for stringent punishment for the duo to serve as a deterrent to others.

Prosper Pi-Bansah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, described the development as “wicked wizardry.”

He noted that a delegation has been sent to the facility to check on them and assured they were responding to treatment.

Covid-19 is a killer – Police Commander cries https://www.adomonline.com/covid-19-is-a-killer-police-commander-cries/ Fri, 22 May 2020 18:35:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1799167 Covid-19 is a killer and its devastation across the world was very scary, Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Edward Oduro Kwarteng, has emphasised.

He is therefore admonishing Ghanaians who are still in doubt to come to terms with the reality of the havoc caused by the pandemic.

DCOP Oduro Kwarteng made the observation during the Volta Region launch of the Ghana Police Service, Zoomlion Ghana Limited nationwide fumigation and disinfection of police facilities exercise.

A total of 167 facilities comprising 59 police stations/offices and 108 barracks/accommodations will be disinfected in the region.

The week-long exercise began with the disinfection of the Volta Regional Police Headquarters, Ho,the District Police Headquarters, Central Police Station and Ho barracks.

According to the regional commander, it was sad that people were still doubting the existence of Covid-19.

“I daresay that they are being misled,” he emphasised.

Against this backdrop, DCOP Oduro Kwarteng stressed the need for Ghanaians to religiously practice the Covid-19 preventive protocols–observing personal hygiene, social distancing, using alcohol-based hand sanitisers, and avoiding hand shakes and social gatherings.

He reiterated the need for residents in the region to wear nose masks and comply with the social distancing protocols.

DCOP Oduro Kwarteng, however, recounted that the region recorded few incidents of non-compliance.

But he added that necessary steps were taken to bring sanity within the region.

“Let me once again remind all of us that we are not in normal times and so we must all put our hands to the wheel to drive the invisible killer away as soon as possible,” he encouraged.

He commended Zoomlion for its role in the fight against Covid-19.

“We need to applaud them for a yeoman’s job,” he said.

In a brief remark, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Pastor Johnson Avulatey, also admitted that Covid-19 was a killer disease.

“We, therefore, need to tighten our belts, observe the protocols so we can fight this common enemy,” he urged.

He went on to intimate that the only medicine for the virus was adhering to the preventive protocols of washing hands, applying alcohol-based hand sanitisers, and practising physical distancing.

He said the disease was no respecter of persons, adding that “that is why we need to be extra-careful.”

He, therefore, entreated the Zoomlion team to do an efficient job to ensure the safety of police personnel in the region.

For his part, the General Manager, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Volta Region, Solomon Denyo, disclosed that about 500 personnel including chemicals, and other logistics have been deployed for the exercise.

He said the aim of the exercise was to protect police personnel from the attack of Covid-19.

He was optimistic that they will finish it within five days.

Mr Denyo also used the opportunity to encourage other corporate institutions to take advantage of Zoomlion’s disinfection programme for their facilities to be disinfected.

A former employee, Komla Addo, hauled the station to court after it failed to settle his eight months salary and Social Security and National Insurance Trust contributions amounting to about GH¢30,000.00 after several requests.

The court, presided over by Robert Addo, ruled that assets of the station must be sold to pay off the plaintiff’s judgement debt in April 2019.

The order listed all movable and immovable property belonging to the station including mast, computers, transmitters, furniture, photocopiers, a secretarial shop with its contents operated by the station, among others to be sold to settle the debt.

MORE:

The respondent, thereafter, filed an appeal for a stay of execution but failed to show up in court to make his case known.

In May 2020, the Ho High Court 1, presided over by Justice George Buadi, dismissed the appeal and awarded the respondent a GH¢1,000.00 penalty for refusing to show up in court.

According to Mr Addo, he tendered his resignation in December 2018 after managing West FM for eight months without pay and demanded an upfront payment of his salary arrears and SSNIT contributions.

He said, “the owner refused to pay upon several requests, hence my decision to head to court.”

Mr Addo, who was escorted by a bailiff and police to lock the station on May 8, said he will be using legal means to retrieve the judgement debt awarded him by the court.

HO Municipal Hospital gets three new facilities despite challenges https://www.adomonline.com/ho-municipal-hospital-gets-three-new-facilities-despite-challenges/ Fri, 01 Dec 2017 07:37:29 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=722341 The Ho Municipal Hospital which is one of the oldest hospitals in the country has had many challenges especially issues of infrastructure thus rendering it in a dilapidated state.
The hospital, since its inception in 1927 has not seen any major renovation and rehabilitation works.
The poor state of the hospital’s infrastructure became a major concern for management as this affected the image of the hospital and to a large extent staff morale and service delivery.
In addressing the challenges, management of the hospital decided to embark on an infrastructural face lifting project where some key structures were earmarked for massive reconstruction and rehabilitation works.
At the inauguration of the of some key projects such as the reconstructed and refurbished operating theater, the Labour ward and newly constructed mother’s lodge, the medical superintendent of the Ho municipal hospital, Dr Lawrence Kumi  said in the quest to attain the vision by the hospital which is providing best medical service and quality for all, the new  management of the hospital (barely four years) decided to re-prioritize and re direct the activities of the hospital so as to turn its fortunes around.
According to Dr Lawrence Kumi, just before the new management took over in 2013, the hospital had recorded eight maternal mortalities in 2012, but before then the hospital recorded 10 maternal deaths in 2009, 12 in 2010 and 14 in 2011.
He said, the bad records made the public to declare the hospital as a death dungeon for pregnant women.
The situation, he said became so serious to the extent that even queen mother’s in the Asogli Traditional area threatened to go on demonstration to register their displeasure.
The theater according to Dr Lawrence Kumi was more than a death trap a situation which was very bad at the time.
Dr Lawrence Kumi however pleaded with government and stakeholders to help the hospital with an accident and emergency centre to facilitate emergency services.
The Volta Regional director of health services, Dr Timothy Letsa, commended management of the hospital for hard work in the midst of difficult financial and other challenges partly occasioned by the slow reimbursement of health insurance claims to facilitate over the past four years coupled with non-flow of funds from central government to supplement the hospital’s internally generated revenues.
The chairman for the program, Torgbui Howusu,Chief of Dome urged stakeholders to help the hospital in any way they can to achieve a better health delivery.
In a speach read by the Ho municipal chief executive, Mr Nelson Akorli and on behalf of the Volta Regional minister, Dr Achibald Letsa, he commended management and staff of the hospital for hard work and dedication and urge them to do more.
The newly constructed mother’s lodge, will accommodate relatives (mostly women) of the sick   take care of their sick relatives
