Speaking at the ceremony in Ho, President Mahama said the project goes beyond the delivery of housing units, describing it as part of a broader national vision anchored on dignity, equity and long-term development.

He noted that the Oxygen City initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth by expanding housing supply, attracting both local and foreign investment, creating jobs and enhancing the Volta corridor’s contribution to the national economy.

The President reiterated that people-centred development remains a key priority of his administration, stressing that all national projects must deliver tangible benefits to host communities.

These benefits, he said, include employment opportunities for the youth, support for local entrepreneurs and improved living standards for families.

President Mahama explained that the decision by Tema Development Corporation (TDC) Ghana Limited to expand beyond its traditional Tema Acquisition Area to Ho aligns with government policy aimed at addressing the country’s housing deficit, which continues to affect working families, young professionals and public sector workers.

He added that projects such as Oxygen City, which integrate housing with essential infrastructure including roads, water, sanitation, transport, schools and healthcare facilities, are critical to promoting sustainable and well-planned urban development.
