The colourful event, held during the Easter festivities, brought together residents, visitors, and cultural groups in a vibrant display of music, dance, and local traditions.

The carnival forms part of efforts to position Ho and the wider Volta Region as a preferred destination for holidaymakers.

Speaking on the sidelines, Mr. Kpotosu emphasised the importance of media support in showcasing the tourism potential of Ho, especially during festive seasons such as Easter.

He called on the media to take a proactive role in promoting tourism in the municipality to drive economic growth and highlight the area’s cultural heritage.

“The media has a critical role to play in projecting Ho to the rest of the country and beyond. Events like this Easter Carnival can only grow when they receive the needed publicity,” he stated.

According to the MP, sustained media coverage of such initiatives will not only showcase Ho’s rich cultural heritage but also position the municipality as a key tourism destination in the Volta Region.

He added that the initiative forms part of a broader vision to stimulate local economic activity, create jobs for the youth, and attract investment through tourism.

Participants and residents who thronged the streets for the celebration expressed excitement, describing the carnival as a refreshing addition to Ho’s social calendar. Many commended the MP for introducing an event that entertains while highlighting the cultural identity of the people.

The Ho Easter Carnival is expected to become an annual event, contributing to the growth of domestic tourism and reinforcing Ho’s status as a vibrant cultural hub in the Volta Region.

The exercise, held at the Ahoe Community Centre in the Ho, formed part of efforts to promote women’s health and encourage early detection of potentially life-threatening conditions.

Dozens of women, including market traders, turned up to access screening services, counselling, and medical advice provided by health professionals. Participants who required additional care were also referred for further medical attention.

Health workers used the opportunity to educate attendees on the importance of routine check-ups, early diagnosis, and preventive care, particularly in addressing cervical cancer.

Speaking to Adom News, Special Aide to the MP, Foli Bruno, stressed the urgency of prioritising women’s health, noting that cervical cancer continues to claim many lives despite being preventable and treatable when detected early.

He urged women to take advantage of such initiatives and to seek regular medical screening, emphasising that awareness and prompt action remain critical in reducing the disease burden.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation to the MP for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial, especially for those with limited access to healthcare services.

The outreach also included a broader awareness campaign on women’s health, aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their wellbeing.

In an interview with Adom News, the MP described the situation as “deeply troubling” and pledged his full support in seeking justice for affected students.

He announced his readiness to personally cover any financial expenses required to assist the victims in pursuing legal redress and rehabilitation.

“No child should suffer such trauma and be denied justice because of financial barriers,” Mr Kpotosu stated.

“I am fully committed to ensuring that these young victims receive all the support they need, legal, medical, and psychological.”

The DOVVSU report, according to the MP, highlighted a worrying rise in cases of sexual misconduct and abuse involving students, sparking outrage among stakeholders and community leaders in Ho Central.

The MP called for stronger collaboration between schools, parents, security agencies, and civil society to tackle the menace and protect the rights and dignity of children.

In addition to addressing the issue of abuse, Mr. Kpotosu also lamented the poor academic performance of students in the recently concluded 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He described the results as disappointing and called for a collective reassessment of the education system within the municipality.

Mr Kpotosu revealed that discussions are ongoing with the Municipal Education Directorate to implement strategic interventions aimed at improving teaching standards, learning conditions, and student support systems in the area.

He concluded with a passionate appeal to parents and guardians to be more involved in both the academic and personal development of their children, stating, “Together, we must build a safe and supportive environment for our children to thrive—academically, emotionally, and socially.”

On her part, the Ho Central Municipal Director of Education, Esther Yeboah-Adzimah, has also sent a strong warning to male teachers to abstain from having sexual misconduct with female students.

Ho Central MP bows out of parliament https://www.adomonline.com/ho-central-mp-bows-out-of-parliament/ Thu, 16 Feb 2023 12:47:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2217436 The Member of Parliament for the Ho Central Constituency, Benjamin Komla Kpodo, is expected to end his stay in Parliament.

Mr Kpodo, who entered Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress in 2013, is not expected to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries when the party officially opens nominations in the coming days.

Mr Kpodo would, however, run down the last two years of his third term until the 2024 general election is held.

Sources closer to the MP told Starr News’ Faisel Abdul-Iddrisu that the law-maker would officially announce this decision to the public and party faithful on February 28, 2023.

In the last quarter of 2022, rumours were already rife that Mr Kpodo would not be seeking re-election.

But recent town-hall meetings and other activities held by the MP across the constituency sent waves of fear across board with those seeking to replace him left confused over his true intentions.

But it is all over now for Mr Kpodo who is believed to have taken the decision based on his age.

“The MP feels he has done his best for Ho Central and would want to create the space for another young person to lead,” a reliable team member told Starr News.

“But what is more important is the fact that he personally feels he’s ageing – he’s 70 years now and by the time the next elections are held, he would have been 72 years old, he certainly doesn’t want to leave Parliament at 76,” the source disclosed.

The Ho Central MP would become the second legislator from the Volta region to voluntarily opt out of Parliament following a similar declaration made by his colleague MP for Ketu North, Dr James Klutse Avedzi.

Among his colleagues, Mr Kpodo is revered for his stellar contributions to the various committees he has served on since entering into Parliament some 10 years ago.

His decision not to seek re-election is understood to have come as a big blow to some of his colleagues who attempted to persuade him against the move.
