In a short message, Hajia Alima Mahama noted that she enjoyed her three and half years stay as Ghana’s Ambassador and cherished every interaction with the Ghanaian community in the United States of America.

Below is the message in which the outgoing Ambassador assures that she will continue to do her best for Mother Ghana.

The former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development said she observed Napo as he is popularly known at Cabinet meetings during his days as Education Minister.

In this regard, she can confidently say that Napo is a man of humility who takes criticism in good faith and doesn’t get upset or angry.

Madam Mahama was speaking at an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Memphis, Tennessee, on the sidelines of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s visit to the city.

According to her, she finds it difficult to believe the public notion that Dr. Opoku Prempeh is arrogant.

“I watched him at cabinet meetings and I will tell you what I know about him. He is humble, and he takes criticism in good faith without being angry or upset. When people say he is arrogant, I find it difficult to believe that,” she said.

She also expressed confidence in the Bawumia/Opoku Prempeh pair to secure a resounding victory in the upcoming elections, calling Dr. Opoku Prempeh the excellent pair for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Ms. Alima Mahama also encouraged the Ghanaian community to register for the Ghana card and took time to walk them through the process.

The nominees include former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Obed Boamah Akwa and former Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh.

Hajia Mahama will head Ghana’s mission in Washington DC, United States of America with Lt Gen OB Akwa in Egypt.

Mr Asomah-Cheremeh is to head the country’s mission in Beijing/ China.

The likes of Papa Owusu Ankomah, who served in President Akufo-Addo’s first term as the Ambassador to the United Kingdom, will still be at post.

However, the 2016 People’s National Convention Presidential Candidate, Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama, would be replaced as Ambassador-at-Large by Michael Ofori-Atta.

Hajia Ramatu Mahama (Neè Egala), born on October 15, shared some photos to mark the day.

She will be joined by family, friends, associates and well-wishers to joyously celebrate her 69th birthday at a private ceremony.

The former Second Lady is the daughter of the late Imoro Egala, a Minister for Trade and Industry and first black chairman of COCOBOD, in the First Republic and a long-standing political stalwart in Ghana through to the Third Republic. He was also a founder of the PNP now PNC.

She was an educationist in Tamale and her love and care for her pupils earned her the coveted title ‘Mma Ramatu.’

During the tenure of the late Vice President, she championed and advocated for women participation in decision making process of the country.

Her house was home to many young people due to her commitment to the development, wellbeing and welfare of the teeming young people in the community.

She is also a philanthropist who has supported a lot of youth and women in agriculture, education, business development and health care services.

She and her late husband were blessed with four children, namely; Salma, Farouk, Fayad and Halim who are all flourishing in various fields.

Assembly members have been urged to be wary of juicy promises being made to them by former President John Mahama.

The promises, which include payment of monthly allowances to Assembly members, according to the Minister of Local Government, Hajia Alima Mahama are deceptive.

“Mahama is just throwing promises about for power. It is impossible for central government to pay allowances of assembly members,” she stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a meeting with the Ghana Association of Assembly Members, promised to pay them monthly allowances if he wins the December general election.

He explained that, as development agents, there is the need for the State to motivate them to give off their best.

Mr Mahama added that the monthly allowance will help them in the discharge of their day-to-day activities in their electoral areas.

But the Local Government Minister implored the Assembly Members to see John Mahama’s promise as political talk.

She explained that the NDC made a similar promise in its manifesto ahead of the 2012 general election but did not fulfill it.

“John Mahama’s promise to pay assembly members was in their manifesto in the 2012 elections but he didn’t do anything about it. Now they have no argument against the bravest performance in decentralization and local development, so they are now promising ‘rooftop promises’ that they cannot offer,” the Local Government Minister stressed.

As an immediate measure, the Minister said the government is supporting the Assemblies to generate enough revenue to increase the allowances of Assembly Members.
