Speaking on The Big Agenda on Adom TV, Osofo Kyiri Abosom said that, given the severe economic challenges the current administration inherited, President Mahama deserves commendation for the progress made so far.

He highlighted the stability of the Ghana cedi, the reduction or stabilisation of prices of goods and services compared to the previous regime, single-digit inflation, and a steady supply of electricity as clear signs of effective governance.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom urged appointees, public sector workers, and the general public not to sabotage the president but to support him in achieving his goals.

When asked to rate President Mahama’s performance, he said: “So far, President Mahama has started on a good note because all the fundamentals are good. I will give him 88% for now,” while encouraging the president to maintain the same level of performance throughout his tenure.

Mr. Andrews also appealed to President Mahama not to shield appointees of the previous government who have been arrested or are standing trial over corruption-related offences. He argued that the country’s inability to effectively fight corruption stems from the failure to prosecute those found culpable.

He cautioned the president not to succumb to pressure from party members defending colleagues facing trial, describing claims of “witch hunting” as mere propaganda.

Why GUM won’t join CJ’s suspension demo – Osofo Kyiri Abosom reveals [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/why-gum-wont-join-cjs-suspension-demo-osofo-kyiri-abosom-reveals-audio/ Mon, 28 Apr 2025 10:21:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2529408 The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has distanced itself from a planned demonstration against the suspension and potential removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday, GUM’s founder and leader, Christian Kwabena Andrews, clarified that the party had not been informed, engaged, or consulted about any such meeting or protest.

“We are committed to democracy and the rule of law. Any issues concerning the Chief Justice should be addressed through legal channels. GUM has not endorsed or joined in any plans for this demonstration,” he said.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom as he is affectionately called stated that GUM members should refrain from participating in the protest.

“Until there is a verdict, there is no need to demonstrate. Let the legal process take its course,” he directed.

He further explained that although NPP’s Nana Boakye had been approached to join the protest, it was without official communication.

“The protest is in good faith, but we should let the laws work and wait for the verdict. We shouldn’t rush to protest when investigations are not yet complete. Let’s see what has happened, let it become public, and then we can take a stance,” he noted.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom reiterated that the demonstration was unnecessary at this time.

“Until the verdict comes out, we won’t know if she is truly guilty or not. We won’t join any protest,” he added.

He also pointed out that he himself had not received any official information regarding the removal of the Chief Justice.

“I haven’t even seen any information about it petition. I am not privy to it, so there’s no need for me to follow them to protest,” he said.

GUM ON CJ PROTEST

GUM, according to Andrews, believes in the rule of law, and any case involving the Chief Justice should be handled through legal means.

“If anyone believes otherwise, they should exclude GUM from that action,” he added.

The demonstration, scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025, is organized by a group of political parties opposed to the Chief Justice’s removal.

Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, claimed the ruling party won the 2016 election on dubious grounds.

He made the comment when he presented relevant documents to facilitate his candidature in the December poll at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission.

The presidential hopeful, who is also the Founder and General Overseer of the Life Assembly Worship Centre in Accra, cited a comment made by Assin Central Member of Parliament, Ken Agyapong to corroborate his claim.

“They [NPP] knows how they managed to win the election. If Ken Agyapong is threatening to reveal secrets, then there is something fishy that is why I’m saying NPP won the election on dubious grounds,” he added.

“We are going to surprise them [NPP/NDC]. I will win the election by 65%,” he said.

Speaking at the launch of his party’s constitution and 2020 manifesto, Osofo Kyiri Abosom, as he is popularly known, said legalising galamsey would benefit both licensed and unlicensed operators to ensure everyone interested in mining has the liberty to do so.

When I’m voted into power, galamsey will be free for everyone to put money into everybody’s pocket. For the gold, we will continue mining so far as the ground permits, he declared.

To ensure there are no adverse effects of his policy, Osofo Kyiri Abosom explained, a committee financed by the galamsey operators will be set up solely for planting trees, cover the mining pits, and with excavators, level the mining grounds.
