The BOTWE Boys, as they are affectionately called, demonstrated class, composure, and teamwork throughout the competition, sealing their place in the final with an emphatic 42 points.

GSTS followed with 23 points, while Mankranso SHS finished with 15 points.

From the first bell, Mfantsipim made their intentions clear. They wasted no time asserting dominance, finishing the opening round with 17 points, comfortably ahead of GSTS with 7 points and Mankranso SHS with 6 points.

The early momentum signaled that the defending champions had come prepared to defend their crown.

The second round was where Mfantsipim began to pull away. Their quick recall, precision, and seamless teamwork shone through as they extended their lead to 18 points, with GSTS trailing at 12 and Mankranso managing only 5.

The BOTWE Boys’ consistency and accuracy left the audience in awe as they dominated question after question.

The Problem of the Day, a round notorious for shaking up competitions, proved tricky for all three schools. Both Mfantsipim and GSTS managed 1 out of 10, while Mankranso SHS failed to score.

In the fourth round, Mfantsipim continued their steady run, combining strategy and speed to raise their tally to 32 points, while GSTS stayed at 20 points and Mankranso remained at 15 points.

Every answer from the BOTWE camp drew cheers from their supporters, who could sense victory drawing near.

The final round brought the energy in the hall to its peak. With their eyes firmly on a back-to-back championship dream, Mfantsipim finished strong, ending the contest at 42 points, far ahead of GSTS’s 23 points and Mankranso’s 15 points.

Their victory was met with thunderous applause as they marched proudly into the grand finale.

The win marks another milestone in Mfantsipim’s rich NSMQ legacy and places them just one step away from retaining the trophy.

As the BOTWE Boys prepare for the ultimate showdown, one thing is certain, they are not ready to give up their title without a fierce fight.

NSMQ 2025: What GSTS’ victory over PRESEC means for the ‘Land of Giants’ https://www.adomonline.com/nsmq-2025-what-gsts-victory-over-presec-means-for-the-land-of-giants/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 18:29:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594367 For years, Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon) had ruled the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) stage like kings without challengers.

But on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the crown slipped and it was GSTS, the ‘Land of Giants’, who seized the moment.

Prior to the start of the quarter finals contest, Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), represented by Praisegod Solomon and Hadir Marc Owusu had trumpeted their mantra, “we are not here to participate, we are here to win”.

However, in the first four rounds of the contest, their winning chances were gloomy, as PRESEC dominated with a solid 8-point margin, hoping to prove a point by the end of the final bell.

If there was any miracle to come, GSTS hoped that would be the final round, the determinant, Riddles. As though the heavens paid attention to them, they correctly answered two riddles, squeezing them closer to PRESEC’s accumulated points of 38.

Now with hearts pounding, chests out, attentive ears and racking brains, all contestants listened as the quiz mistress, Prof. Elsie Effah Kauffman read out the final riddle.

Without waiting to hear the end of the question, GSTS took a leap of faith, pressed the buzzer and confidently blurted out a response that was met with an ear-soothing response, “you’re right”.

When the final riddle was answered and the buzzer went silent, the chants erupted, not just in the contest hall, but across their classrooms in Takoradi and among thousands of supporters watching via Joy News or Joy Prime channels.

GSTS had emerged victorious against Presec by just 1 point. The scoreboard projected: GSTS – 39points, PRESEC, Legon – 38points and Our Lady of Grace (OLAG) – 28points. That’s what made this win poetic. The ‘underdogs’ conquered the 8-time champions by one single point.

GSTS’s win against PRESEC has pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz.

For the first time in over five years, PRESEC, the school that has dominated the NSMQ stage with an unbroken run of semi-final and final appearances, has been sent packing before the semis.

By extension, GSTS has for the first time ever advanced to the NSMQ semi finals, just two contests away from lifting the trophy.

GSTS, the ‘Land of the Giants’ has always been a school with a proud academic and technical heritage. Founded in 1909, it stands as one of Ghana’s oldest institutions of science and innovation.

In the NSMQ era, they have made their mark as arguably the best school from the west, having conquered the Western Regional Qualifiers earlier this year.

They are also champions of the 2012 contest and two-time runner-ups.

If they go all the way in the 2025 nationals, GSTS will become two-time champions, completing a story that began decades ago and was reignited by focus and wit.

But even if their run ends tomorrow, their message remains timeless that giants may sleep, but they never die. And in 2025, the Land of Giants roared back to life.

2025 NSMQ: GSTS stuns PRESEC-Legon in thrilling comeback to reach semi-final https://www.adomonline.com/2025-nsmq-gsts-stuns-presec-legon-in-thrilling-comeback-to-reach-semi-final/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 17:06:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594419 The 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) produced one of its most dramatic moments yet as Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) staged a stunning comeback to eliminate eight-time champions, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, from the national championship.

The quarter-final contest, which also featured Our Lady of Grace SHS, kept spectators at the edge of their seats throughout, but it was GSTS who rose to the occasion in the final round to claim a sensational victory by a single point.

The Presecans began strongly, taking an early lead in Round One with 16 points, while GSTS matched their pace with the same score. Our Lady of Grace trailed closely with 13 points.

PRESEC extended their lead in Round Two, finishing with 24 points, followed by Our Lady of Grace at 21, and GSTS at 18 points.

Round Three’s ‘Problem of the Day’ tested the schools’ analytical skills. PRESEC scored 4 out of 10, GSTS managed 2, while Our Lady of Grace failed to earn a point.

The Ɔdadeɛ boys maintained their dominance in Round Four, widening the gap to 38 points, with GSTS at 30 points and Our Lady of Grace at 28 points.

However, the final round changed everything. With precision, teamwork, and composure under pressure, GSTS swept through the riddles, answering three consecutive questions correctly to overtake PRESEC in a breathtaking finish.

GSTS ended with 39 points, edging out PRESEC’s 38, while Our Lady of Grace finished with 28 points.

The result sent shockwaves through the competition, ending PRESEC’s quest for a record ninth title and propelling GSTS into the semi-finals, a moment that will be remembered as one of the great comebacks in NSMQ history.
