According to him, no gospel musician checked up on him while he was on his sickbed, experiencing the most devastating moments of his life.

Sharing his experience on Joy Prime’s late afternoon show, Changes, the singer indicated that he never anticipated such an attitude from them, considering the fact that they are all part of the gospel community

“Not even a single one checked up on me. Personally, if I heard that somebody had gone through something or seen it, I would have been calling. I don’t care whether I’m cool with you or not. But not even one person did,” he told Roselyn Felli on Wednesday.

Upon realising that no one cared about his health, he motivated himself to persevere and finish the project he had commenced.

“When I realised that not even a single gospel artist colleague or pastor would check up on me, that’s when I said even if I died, nobody cares; I have to rise up quickly,” he continued.

Nevertheless, he noted that a few pastors, including Nigerian Pastor Jerry Eze, Prophet Agyemang Prempeh of Ultimate Charismatic Centre, Apostle Amoako Atta of the Lord’s Parliament Chapel International, and Pastor Kingsley, showed him love by reaching out to him on some social media platforms.

That notwithstanding, the ‘My Confidence’ song composer felt inspired by the apathy to recover rapidly and move ahead with his December Rhythms of Africa concert.

On the day of the concert, the injury became worse, but he endured the pain and gave his best performance at the event.

The musician is thankful to God for His healing grace and mercy, adding that the fall was initially toward his head but then shifted to his leg, which could have resulted in death.

Some Ghanaian social media users trolled him after the incident, alleging that the injury was faked to draw traction to his concert. However, Mr. Badu said he did not blame them, as he felt it was in Ghanaians’ nature.

“Ghana like seeing is believing, and I’m going to show them what I went through. It’s ugly,” he said.

Gospel artistes always outshine secular acts when it comes to performances — Perpetual Didier https://www.adomonline.com/gospel-artistes-always-outshine-secular-acts-when-it-comes-to-performances-perpetual-didier/ Thu, 04 Jul 2024 13:24:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2417647 Gospel musician, Perpetual Didier, believes it is about time event organizers stopped discriminating against gospel acts when it comes to major shows.

After all, they deliver better jazzed-up live performers to their audiences than their secular counterparts, who always seem to get slots.

She finds it hard to understand this happening considering that in Ghana, gospel musicians hold the ‘record’ of outshining secular musicians when they are billed to perform live at an event.

Speaking with Graphic Showbiz recently, the ”Yesu Nkoaa singer cited the recent Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) as an example, scoring Nacee’s performance above King Promise’s opening act, as well as other secular performances, including that of Kuami Eugene’s.

Perpetual also highlighted past Ghana Music Awards shows where gospel artistes, such as Sonnie Badu, O.J., and Obaapa Christy, among others, delivered exceptional performances, surpassing that of prominent third-tier secular musicians of the time.

She emphasized, “I’m citing Ghana Music Awards because we know it’s the biggest ceremony that brings all the players in the music industry together, providing a common platform for both secular and gospel musicians to perform.”

She continued, “And over the years, we have all been witnesses to how gospel musicians always outshine their secular counterparts on stage when it comes to live performances.”

“Gospel musicians are all about live performances, we perform with live bands, which brings a dynamic energy to our supercharged sessions and that’s hard to replicate.”

The singer, who is credited with songs such as Nyame Woye, Nkomhye and Suspect, attributed the exceptional stage skills of gospel artistes to the rigorous training and mentorship they received in church, which refined their ability to deliver polished pepped-up performances as professional artistes.

Away from live performances, the year 2023 began with a tragedy for Perpetual and her family, when her brother met his untimely death at West Hills Mall on January 30.

Conflicting reports surrounded the circumstances of his death and Perpetual, who filed a petition with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) asserts that her family is yet to receive justice for their loss.

But as a Christian, Perpetual found solace and encouragement in the scriptures. Immersing herself in the word of God and spending extended periods in His presence inspired a new song, Yesu Nkoa, which conveys a message of hope to her fans.

Gospel music losing spirituality; Empress Gifty, others are now carnal – Apostle Lenny Akpadie https://www.adomonline.com/gospel-music-losing-spirituality-empress-gifty-others-are-now-carnal-apostle-lenny-akpadie/ Sat, 23 Mar 2024 08:24:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2372230 Gospel musician Apostle Lenny Akpadie has said that the gospel music industry is losing its fire and becoming more carnal by the day.

Speaking to Roselyn Felli in an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, he asserted that some Ghanaian gospel musicians are diverting from preaching the gospel to promoting themselves.

According to him, the gospel music industry which is being carnalised by the dressing and appearance of some gospel artistes, is leading people astray.

“Your attention is on the dress the ladies are wearing more than the message. You’re looking at how they move themselves and it’s so attractive that you lose the message.”

“We are getting less and less of spiritualized sheep doing gospel music and introducing of the world.”

The ‘Most High God’ hit maker cited Piesie Esther, who he claims shows her cleavage in pictures, and Empress Gifty, who according to him promotes herself more than the work of God, as examples of carnalisation in the gospel music industry.

“Gifty came here [Referring to Joy Prime] last week. She was talking about her brand and promoting herself. That’s carnality! There’s an extent to which you promote your work because what you are looking for, God is looking for it for you more than yourself,”

Despite his view, the ‘Great Things’ composer explained that “I’m not saying that she should not promote her event. I’m saying that she should preach the Christ. She should talk about people coming to encounter the Holy Ghost during the event. That’s the message we are carrying in songs.”

Apostle Lenny Akpadie graced the gospel industry with spirit-filled songs between the early and late 90s.

She said her music craft is her business, hence she doesn’t allow her husband to take over or manage her business just as she doesn’t interfere in his.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz FM, the gospel musician said she is against music stars who decide to allow their spouses to manage their careers.

MORE:

Doing business with your husband can cause a lot of problems. So for me I am not for my husband managing me. My husband doesn’t have time to be following me so I don’t put stress on him. While he is doing his own thing, I don’t want to put pressure on him.

Maybe he would want me to do something and I might not want it that way and that can cause misunderstanding for me, she told host Noella.

Ceccy Twum reveals why many churches in Ghana don’t help gospel musicians [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/ceccy-twum-reveals-why-many-churches-in-ghana-dont-help-gospel-musicians-video/ Fri, 18 Jun 2021 15:41:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1975737 Gospel musician, Ceccy Twum, has disclosed why many big churches in Ghana don’t like the idea of supporting gospel musicians who worship in their church.

According to her, though some churches are helping gospel musicians by setting up music labels for them in Nigeria, that can hardly happen in Ghana.

She explained that she tried helping one budding gospel artiste in her church with massive support from her husband but he eventually left them hanging.

She explained that it has been the culture of many up-and-coming gospel acts in Ghana to stop attending churches that helped them the moment they hit the limelight.

Check the number of people Pastor Chris has helped who are still with his church and check number of people in churches in Ghana who are still with the churches that helped them?

MORE:

My husband and I brought one guy from Kumasi and now he is no more with the church but he was on every poster of my husband.

My husband moved to Nigeria with him. We were doing it all to get him there… in the end, he was asking the church to pay him more than what we gave him.

According to the gospel musician, who is currently promoting her Faithful God album, these kinds of things, wouldn’t want someone in the church to help others.

When asked why he doesn’t go by contract with emerging acts she wants to support, she replied: It was not by paper… it was verbal… when we are doing things we do it spiritually… we are not thinking about the business side.

Can gospel musicians collaborate with secular artists? https://www.adomonline.com/can-gospel-musicians-collaborate-with-secular-artists/ Mon, 25 Nov 2019 14:04:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1725126 Can gospel musicians collaborate with Secular artists?

Rev. Eddie Tetteh, a gospel musician, answers in the negative.

He supports his assertion with 2 Corinthians 6:14 from the Holy Bible.

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers,” he quoted Sunday evening on “A walk with Jesus”, a Christian family programme on Joy FM.

Eddie Tetteh wondered why a person declaring or witnessing Christ, would not just go ahead and do so without blending it “with something.”

He defines a gospel musician as one who is born-again and does music as a ministry.

“From where I stand, anybody who sings a gospel song must have an encounter with Christ.

“We must now draw that line between somebody in ministry and an artist who wants to do business,” he told programme host, Rev Ransford Abossey.

Illustrating this point with his personal experience, he said, “I am doing ministry. I am not there to play a hit song. No, I am doing ministry,” he stressed.

Imputing motives to unbelievers doing gospel music, he said people do gospel music for motives other than promoting Christ.

“Anything Jesus sells. Even if you don’t have an encounter with Jesus and you mention the name it will sell,” he explained.

According to him, those in the church have already been saved, saying it was now the turn of those in the clubs to also get saved.

Brother Sammy reportedly made this remark in an interview with Kessben FM.

He stressed that those in the church have repeatedly been told about God through music, and it was time to spread the word to those in the club.

To him, failure on the part of his colleagues to do this amounts to hypocrisy; adding that there is nothing wrong mingling with people who go clubbing. He cited Mark 16:15 to drive home his point.

The scripture says: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

According to her, even though she has cemented her career with her gifted sensational voice, she believes God has given everyone a unique talent they must capitalize on.
Speaking on Joy FM, the ‘Aseda’ hitmaker indicated that, ‘It’s a big problem when people want to listen to man than God. People want to be in the business because of money; which is very wrong’
“It would be better if people always listen to God and be conscious about the work than focusing on money,” she said.
Revealing her source of success in the industry, she said ‘if we allow God to be the centre of everything the blessings come automatically.’
Ohemaa Mercy further urged gospel musicians to work hard and obey the voice of God other than relying on hearsays.
“There are a lot of people deviating from what they came with. They have to focus on their management. I always want to listen to God. First, you need to be careful of association, friends. You have to choose a man of God that will be your father…,” she advised.

According to him, if a musician continues to be relevant year after year, then it’s nothing but grace that keeps them going. The controversial man of God speaking to Nat Sankofa T.
Arthur on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM said, a number of celebrities become poor when they retire from their profession because they were not thought to build their future. Music in the view of the Prophet, is a stepping stone to one’s future, seasonal but not permanent.
Musicians he noted must invest and be able to find other things that can generate wealth for them outside music. He also lambasted men of God for being part of the problem.
”Pastors should culture gospel musicians; they should also give them the principles and procedures to prosper outside music because music will only give them the fame, bring them to the lime light but not their future.
The lifestyle of some gospel musicians he said, are disgusting and when they gain popularity, they see themselves as ‘gods’ and untouchable and do not even want to be corrected when at fault.
The Prophet did not mince words in saying that some musicians are gifted but the lack wisdom adding, musicians must apply wisdom to their gift.
