Director for Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance, Samuel Debrah, made the call on behalf of the Director-General of the Service during the maiden graduation ceremony of the Yamfo Technical Institute in the Ahafo Region.

A total of 621 students graduated from the institute.

Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Debrah emphasised that the country’s ability to reduce youth unemployment hinges on the effectiveness of TVET.

He noted that industries have a critical role to play in supporting students and institutions to deliver quality training.

According to him, the TVET Service is collaborating with industry stakeholders to design curricula that align with labour market demands, ensuring that students graduate with relevant, in-demand skills.

He further urged companies to offer internship opportunities to help students gain hands-on experience.

Meanwhile, Principal of Yamfo Technical Institute, Philip Effah Atakorah, advised the graduates to exhibit good character as they enter the world of work.

He encouraged them not to be disheartened by low starting salaries, assuring that with commitment and hard work, they would eventually enjoy fulfilling and well-paying careers.

At the Ghana TVET Service Headquarters located at East Legon, Shiashie, the team paid a courtesy call on the Director-General for Ghana TVET Service, Mawusi Nudekor Awity.

Madam Nudekor Awity in her welcome address stated that the Service was full of joy to have a team from the Ministry visit them for the very first time since its opening.

She touted that TVET though the youngest, is results-oriented.

Director-General of Administration at the Ministry, Mrs Catherine Appiah- Pinkrah, disclosed they have been without a substantive Chief Director for over a year.

According to Madam Appiah- Pinkrah, Mrs Mamle Andrews has over 30 years of experience in the service and is the first female Chief Director of the Ministry for Education.

Mrs Andrews, addressing the management and staff of TVET, acknowledged the hardworking Director General, for her exemplary leadership and transformational policies.

She emphasised the importance of Technical Education in Ghana and its relevance to job creation and decent incomes and why she will be a keen supporter in promoting TVET.

Mrs Andrews urged staff to always be results-oriented as they have always been so that the transformation agenda through TVET can continue.

Mr Franklin Eshun, who is in charge of Training Assessment and Quality Assurance at TVET, made a brief presentation on the background and achievements of the Service within two years of its existence.

Mrs Andrew was accompanied by the Director General, Administration, Catherine Appiah-Pinkrah, Abdul Razak-Umar, Director, HRD, Lawyer Matilda Azumah, Director Legal, Rejoice Dankwa, Director, Hajia Nana Fatima High, Coordinator GEOP, Larry George Botway, Head, Public Relations, Christiana Akrong, Deputy Director and Keren Amoo, Assistant Director.

The partnership is a human-centred approach to drive the future of work through employment creation, rights and work, social protection and social dialogue.

ILO made the announcement when Deputy Director General of Operations, David Prah, on behalf of the Director-General, Ghana TVET Service, Mawusi Nudekor Awity, hosted a delegation.

Adetor Frank Kwasi, National Project Coordinator together with Elsie, Administrative Officer led the team to the Ghana TVET Service.

The focal point of the meeting was to discuss the road map for collaborating with the Ghana TVET Service towards the acquisition of skills for a Greener future.

Mr Prah gave a brief overview of Ghana TVET Service and its transformational policies, programs and strategies put in place towards Greening TVET.

He outlined the progressive report on the Greening TVET agenda and assured ILO of the Ghana TVET Service’s maximum support and cooperation.

Present were Madam Lily Djima Deputy Director General, Management Services, Madam Adjoa Owusuah Yankson A.g. Director of Administration, Mr Samuel Deborah A.g. Director of Training Assessment and Quality Assurance, David Mensah Senior Technical Advisor and Madam Stella Ntow A.g Director Finance.

This is part of the government’s commitment to prioritise TVET in Ghana and also give it further direction.

The Service brings together all the technical and vocational programmes run by the 19 different Ministries.

The Director-General will report to the Minister and Ministry of Education, just like the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service and other agencies under the Ministry.

The operationalisation of the Service is also to ensure the smooth take-off of the government’s flagship programme Free TVET For All.

Under this initiative, all the TVET Institutions, which are now captured under the Ghana TVET Service, will be included in the next academic year which commences in the February 2022 Computerised School Selection and Placement System for selection by the Junior High School graduates.
