Emunah was unveiled as the Ghana Premier League side’s Managing Director this week, taking over from Dr. Delali Anku-Adiamah, whose contract was not renewed following its expiration last month.

During a visit to the squad at the Kpobiman Training Centre on Thursday, Emunah spoke candidly with the players.

“My words are very few. What I want to tell you is that I am one of you. I had a dream to be a footballer. I have played before, but unfortunately, I had to stop early,” he said.

“I have been privileged, and that is what I always say, because my whole professional career has been in football. I understand what it takes to do football, and I understand what it takes to be a good footballer. But as we know, this club and its history—if you serve this club wholeheartedly, heaven will favour you as well,” Emunah added.

The Phobians are currently preparing for their highly anticipated Matchday 22 clash against bitter rivals Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium next Sunday.

Before his appointment at Hearts, Emunah spent eight years with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in various capacities. In 2020, he became the GFA’s Club Licensing Manager, having previously served as a Safety and Security Officer for both CAF and the GFA.

Prior to his tenure at the GFA, Emunah worked as a broadcast journalist and held administrative roles in regional sports governance, including as Deputy Administrative Manager at the National Sports Authority in the Central Region and later as General Secretary of the Western Regional Football Association.

Since 2020, he has also played significant roles for CAF across inter-club competitions, AFCON qualifiers, the African Nations Championship (CHAN), and the African Games.

The veteran coach’s future has been questioned following a series of inconsistent performances in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League. After 21 games, Kotoko sits fifth on the league table with 35 points, though they have advanced to the Round of 16 in the FA Cup.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Zito appealed to fans for understanding, promising to steer the club back on track.

“I have never been sacked as a head coach. If a club hires me, I will work, and at the end of the day, I’ll leave my role. But this is my club, and I know how the fans behave,” he said.

“I only plead with the fans to be patient, and we will surely win. We are in fifth place, and it’s not over. With 14 games left, we remain in contention for the league title.

“Sometimes, my players are disturbed, but I keep telling them this is the nature of our work. Fans have the right to protest, but they should be patient,” he added.

Kotoko will face Aduana FC in the FA Cup Round of 16 this weekend at the Baba Yara Stadium before hosting bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in Matchday 22 of the Ghana Premier League next weekend.

Dogli has become a key figure for the Kpando-based side since joining the club in August, playing an influential role in their 2025/26 campaign. The midfielder has already made 18 league appearances, consistently delivering strong performances in the heart of midfield.

With nearly a decade of experience in football administration, governance, sports broadcasting, and management at both national and continental levels, Emunah brings a wealth of expertise to the position.

His previous roles include Regional Administrator at the Western Regional Football Association, National Safety and Security Officer, and Club Licensing Manager at the GFA.

Hearts of Oak is set to officially unveil Emunah today at the club’s Commercial Centre.

The Porcupine Warriors have endured a challenging league campaign and currently sit fifth on the table with 35 points from 21 matches, eight points behind leaders Medeama SC.

“The pain of his absence is still felt every day. Pooley lived for the beautiful game, and while some hooligans took his life, they can never take away his memories, the joy, and the love he brought to the stands.”

No convictions have been made, as the case remains in court with eight individuals currently on trial.

“Today, we call for continued justice and recommit ourselves to ensuring our game centres remain places of safety and unity, free from violence,” the club added.

“We sent a new proposal to Samba and his team, and we are awaiting their response,” Sarfo Duku told Luv FM.

“Looking at how long this has taken, because we started this conversation almost a year ago, it seems increasingly difficult for the player to renew his contract. But we continue pressing with the hope that he will have a change of mind, especially if he feels he wants to continue here,” he added.

O’Neil has been a key figure for the Reds this season, making 19 appearances and scoring three goals. He is expected to feature in Kotoko’s Matchday 21 fixture away to Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

“For me, I focus more on the small details of the game, both in terms of our defensive structure and having a clear identity of what we have to do when we don’t have the ball, especially when we need to win it in higher positions.

“These key aspects are things I don’t take lightly. I really emphasise them,” he added.

On Saturday, Hearts of Oak cruised to a dominant 3-0 victory over Eleven Wonders at the University of Ghana Stadium. Goals from Mawuli Wayo, Martin Karikari and Kelvin Osei Asibey capped a comfortable afternoon for the Phobians.

Parker Hanson joined the Still Believe lads from Division Two outfit Golden Kick ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

However, his time at Dawu has been cut short after he submitted a resignation letter, citing his desire to return to his struggling former club.

In a statement released on Sunday, January 25, Dreams FC confirmed that management had accepted his decision to step down.

“Coach Hanson expressed his desire to return to his struggling Division Two club in his letter of resignation which has since been accepted by Management,” the statement read.

“The club places on record its thanks to the departed coach and wishes him the very best of luck.”

Sources close to the club, however, suggest that the separation was reached by mutual consent following internal challenges, leading to an amicable parting of ways.

Dreams FC have since moved to reinforce their technical setup, appointing former Legon Cities assistant coach Saeed Adnan to work alongside Winfred Dormon as the club seeks stability on the bench for the remainder of the season.

The clash at the University of Ghana Stadium saw the Phobian side take control early, with Mawuli Wayo giving Hearts the lead in the 8th minute. The hosts held onto the advantage through to half-time.

Speaking in a pre-match interview, Dramani stressed that Eleven Wonders remain a quality side, insisting their relegation-zone position does not reflect the strength of their squad.

“I think the position of Eleven Wonders should not deceive people. They have one of the finest squads in the league,” he said.

“They play fluid football and keep the ball well, so we will try as much as possible to create spaces and take advantage of the vulnerabilities they present.”

The former Black Stars assistant coach added that while Hearts of Oak will respect their opponents, they will also look to capitalise on any weaknesses.

“We will respect what they have, but we will also exploit their inability to defend as a team,” he added.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT.

The side currently sit 15th on the league table with 22 points from 19 matches, a position that has raised concerns about their relegation prospects. However, Domfeh insists the club will avoid the drop despite a patchy run of form.

Young Apostles will be aiming to bounce back after a 2-2 home draw against Hohoe United. They travel to the Tuba AstroTurf this weekend to face Dreams FC in their Matchday 20 fixture.

The club had earlier threatened to boycott the league but has since reversed that decision and confirmed its commitment to continue competing in the Ghana Premier League.

The 25-year-old has rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on loan from Libyan outfit Al Ahly Benghazi, marking a swift return to the Ghana Premier League.

Amoah left Kotoko for Al Ahly Benghazi earlier in the season but made his way back following the Libyan side’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, where they suffered a heavy defeat to Wydad Athletic Club.

Speaking to Kotoko’s official media channels, the striker said his desire to achieve success with the Kumasi-based giants played a key role in his move, stressing his determination to make an immediate impact as the club targets a strong finish to the campaign.

“I decided to return to Asante Kotoko to finish what I started. I’ve never won the Ghana Premier League before, and that is one of the main reasons I came back,” he said.

He added that the title race remains wide open and believes the team can still mount a serious challenge.

“When you look at the league table, it’s far from over. There are still many matches to play, and we will work together as a team to make sure we win it,” Amoah added.

Amoah could make his return debut this weekend when Asante Kotoko host Basake Holy Stars in their Matchday 20 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

The team had threatened to withdraw from the topflight following what they described as unfair officiating in their 2-2 draw against Hohoe United on Matchday 19.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Domfeh confirmed that the club will continue its league campaign after a management review.

“We had a meeting to review our performance for the first half of the season with the management, but we have come to the conclusion that we will not boycott the league. We will continue to play and compete well in the league,” he said.

Domfeh explained that the initial boycott threat was due to dissatisfaction with some decisions made by match officials.

“Our initial decision was based on grievances over unfair officiating. We were just not happy with some of the things that were happening, and that influenced my decision to come on the radio to threaten a boycott,” he added.

The CEO also issued an apology for his earlier remarks.

“I apologise for my earlier remarks by threatening to boycott playing in the Premier League,” Domfeh stated.

Young Apostles will now focus on their next fixture, traveling to face Dreams FC at the Tuba Astro Turf in their Matchday 20 clash.

Speaking to Luv FM, he highlighted the need to build player capacity and provide relevant media materials to help potential buyers conduct due diligence.

He also urged club officials to avoid seeking personal attention that could compromise the club’s image.

“We can’t be projecting ourselves at the expense of the club,” he said.

“Build capacity into the players. I’m not even bluffing—just a year ago, I was part of the management. If you Googled Aduana FC players, you wouldn’t find current pictures of some, or sometimes none at all.

“When someone goes to the transfer market to evaluate a player, they will try to find videos and pictures. If you don’t make it accessible, it complicates the process. You have to take this seriously,” he added.

Atta Poku also announced an upcoming media interaction at Prempeh College School Park, which will allow social media influencers, bloggers, and journalists to engage with the players.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Nunoo, now a CAF and FIFA Instructor, alleged that Grusah attempted to influence him ahead of a Ghana Premier League match. He said he promptly reported the incident to the Premier League Board, then chaired by Welbeck Abra-Appiah.

“During my days of officiating, I never accepted a bribe or allowed myself to be compromised,” Nunoo stated.

“The only person who tried to influence me was Alhaji Grusah, but I reported him to the Premier League Board. He was angry because his club ended up losing the game, and we even argued about it on the radio,” he added.

Nunoo used the platform to urge current referees to remain steadfast and report any attempts at manipulation.
“I will urge all referees to be firm and not accept any bribe or compromise from anyone. You may receive offers from administrators, but these should always be reported to the Football Association,” he advised.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over officiating in the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, where inconsistent performances by match officials have drawn widespread criticism.

The incident occurred during Matchday 19 when Kotoko visited DUN’s Park to face the defending Ghana Premier League champions. After a goalless first half, the Porcupine Warriors appeared to take the lead through a second-half header from Samba O’Neil.

However, the goal was ruled out after referee Julian Nunoo blew for a foul, as replays suggested that goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi had pushed his teammate. The game ended 0-0.

The decision has drawn strong criticism from the club’s fans, who have called for strict sanctions against the official.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Thomas Nunoo, now a CAF and FIFA instructor, admitted that his son made the wrong call and said the error stemmed from poor positioning.

“My son Julian Nunoo is very much worried about his decision to disallow Asante Kotoko’s goal against Bibiani GoldStars,” he said.

“He had that decision wrong, and it was about his positioning on the pitch,” he added.

In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to convene a meeting with the match officials involved to address the controversy.

Officiating controversies have repeatedly overshadowed play, with several high-profile incidents fuelling widespread dissatisfaction among clubs and fans.

In the Matchday 19 fixture, Asante Kotoko were controversially denied a goal against Bibiani GoldStars, while Young Apostles have threatened to boycott the league over what they describe as unfair refereeing.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Nunoo described the recent performances of referees as “worrying,” stressing that the issue should not be left solely to the league’s Review Committee.

“The recent performance of our referees in the Ghana Premier League is worrying,” he said.
“We should not wait for the Review Committee to raise concerns; we should be able to ask questions and make decisions.”

Nunoo also suggested that some referees’ decisions may be influenced by their positions, a claim that has intensified calls for urgent reforms.

“Many of the decisions of some Premier League referees appear to be influenced by their positions,” Nunoo added.

In response to the growing criticism, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly planning a meeting with match officials to address the concerns and restore confidence in officiating standards.

The partnership was marked by a donation of Rexona’s newly launched products to the entire Hearts of Oak team at the club’s sports complex in Pobiman.

The gesture is aimed at supporting the players both on and off the pitch while strengthening the relationship between the two brands.

The decision follows a 2-2 draw against Hohoe United on Matchday 19 at the Wenchi Sports Stadium, a result Domfeh says reflects broader officiating issues this season.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Domfeh stated that while the team will still appear for scheduled matches, they will not actively compete on the field.

“As a club, we have decided to boycott the rest of our Premier League games. We will show up on matchdays but will not compete once the game starts,” he said.

Domfeh added that the club sees greater value in competing in the Division One League, where they can sell players and generate revenue, rather than continuing under the current Premier League conditions.

“It makes more sense for us to compete in the Division One League rather than in the Premier League. We can sell players and make money there, and that is our decision,” he explained.

Currently 15th on the league table with 22 points, Young Apostles are set to face Dreams FC at the Tuba Astro Turf in their upcoming Matchday 20 fixture.

In a statement issued on Monday, the GFA cited alleged breaches of Article 12(1)(i) of its Disciplinary Code, which relates to misconduct towards match officials.

The charges follow incidents during the weekend’s goalless draw against the defending champions, a result that extended Kotoko’s recent struggles in the league.

According to the GFA, both coaches are accused of exhibiting unsporting behaviour towards the match officials after a contentious decision. Kotoko were left aggrieved when a goal by Samba O’Neil was disallowed, with officials ruling that a foul had been committed in the build-up inside the opposition penalty area.

Zito and Owusu have been given until Wednesday, January 21, to formally respond to the charges.

The draw saw the Porcupine Warriors slip to fourth place on the Ghana Premier League table, leaving them eight points behind league leaders Medeama.

At the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex, Vision FC entertained league leaders Medeama SC in a tightly contested encounter.

After a cautious opening, Faruk Mohammed put the hosts ahead deep into first-half stoppage time to give Vision FC a surprise lead at the break.

Vision FC maintained their intensity after the restart, but Medeama raised the tempo in the closing stages. With 10 minutes remaining, Salim Adams drew the visitors level before striking again in added time to complete a dramatic comeback and secure a 2-1 victory.

The win keeps Medeama top of the table on 40 points, while Vision FC remain 12th with 22 points.

Medeama will next host Karela United at the TNA Park on Matchday 20, with Vision FC set to travel to the Hohoe Sports Stadium to face Hohoe United.

Elsewhere at DUN’s Park, Bibiani GoldStars and Asante Kotoko played out a goalless draw. The result leaves GoldStars second on the league standings with 33 points, while Kotoko occupy fourth place on 32 points.

His call comes amid growing concern over the club’s decline in recent seasons. Hearts of Oak enjoyed success under coach Samuel Boadu, winning five trophies across the 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaigns, but have since struggled to maintain their former dominance.

In an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Atuahene insisted the club’s current woes will persist as long as Odotei and Akambi remain involved.

“With Odotei and Akambi around Hearts of Oak, the club will continue to struggle. These people have been around teh team and the team keep retrogressing. 

“I think it is about time that Togbe Afede sack these people from the club. The supporters want them out, and I agree with the call by the fans.”

Atuahene further stressed the need for a more capable management structure to steer the club forward.

“I think Togbe should get competent management that will report to him. I am sad anytime I watch Hearts of Oak play. Togbe has spent millions on this team, but they keep failing him.”

He also highlighted the club’s strong infrastructure, insisting the current squad should be delivering better results.

“With the infrastructure at the club now, these players should be performing, but that is not the case,” he added.

Hearts of Oak were held to a 0-0 draw by Dreams FC on Friday, January 16, at the University of Ghana Stadium, leaving them temporarily in fourth place with 32 points.

The Porcupine Warriors are currently fifth on the league table with 31 points from 18 matches, trailing leaders Medeama SC by six points.

Despite a string of inconsistent results, Duku remains confident that Kotoko can still mount a title challenge.

“Of course, that is what we hope to achieve for this particular season, and I believe that it is still within our capacity and ability to do, to achieve, except that things are becoming difficult for us,” he said.

“That is why we are doing all that we can as management to ensure that things are shaped up and then to be able to turn the fortunes of the club, as you are witnessing now,” he added.

Duku also admitted the team’s overall performance has not met expectations.

“I don’t think it’s the best if you want to win the league, so honestly, we are not satisfied with the performance of the team so far.”

Kotoko will be looking to bounce back from their recent home draw against Berekum Chelsea when they travel to face Bibiani GoldStars in today’s Matchday 19 fixture at the Dun’s Park.

Once a dominant force in Ghanaian and continental football, Hearts of Oak have struggled to regain their former glory. Their last major triumph came in the 2020/21 season when they won the Ghana Premier League under coach Samuel Boadu, ending a trophy drought of over a decade.

Reacting to these setbacks, Atuahene expressed concern over what he sees as a loss of identity at the club.

“Hearts of Oak has lost its spirit and is now soulless,” he said in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

Despite the criticism, Hearts of Oak will be hoping to regain momentum after a hard-fought result against Hohoe United to start the second half of the season. They return to action this weekend with a home fixture against Dreams FC in Matchday 19 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Amoah’s move to North Africa earlier this year followed Kotoko’s early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, where the club suffered a heavy defeat to Wydad Athletic Club in the preliminary round.

However, limited playing time in Libya prompted the forward’s swift return to the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors announced Amoah’s signing late on Thursday, the final day of the transfer window.

Amoah previously impressed at Kotoko after joining from Great Olympics in 2024, finishing the 2024–25 season as the club’s top scorer with 15 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.

He also played a key role in the club’s FA Cup triumph, scoring three goals in four matches during the campaign.

This season, the striker has already netted four goals in six appearances, including a brace against Kwara United in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.

Details regarding when Amoah will make his first appearance since returning to Kumasi are yet to be confirmed.

“The key aspect is that we have a consolidated team, and so we are a team. Whether you like it or not, these two players will not be eligible. Once players are not eligible, we try not to even focus on them,” he said.

Dramani disclosed that injuries have affected several players in recent weeks but believes the team has shown enough resilience to navigate the challenges.

“Even in training, we try to concentrate on those that we can fill in. Apart from these two, there are still others who are not available because of injuries, and we have survived all this period,” he noted.

The Hearts coach also offered advice to Wayo, stressing the need for composure and discipline.

“It’s a very short cut, but I think that Mawuli will learn from that. Out of excitement, you need to be very modest so that you don’t lose your head, because he’s an important person in our setup,” Dramani added.

Friday’s encounter presents an opportunity for Hearts of Oak to maintain momentum as they continue their push up the league table.

Emunah’s journey in Ghanaian football administration began in 2016 as Western Regional Secretary at the GFA.

He later became Regional Administrative Manager of the Western Region Football Association, a role he held until 2020.

He then moved to national-level positions, serving as National Safety and Security Officer and Club Licensing Manager between 2020 and 2024.

At Hearts of Oak, Emunah will succeed Delali Anku-Adiamah, who served as Managing Director from February 2024 to December 2025.

In his new position, he will oversee all club operations, liaise with key football governance bodies including the GFA and the Premier League Board, and report directly to the club’s Board of Directors while working closely with the Executive Chairman.

The move comes as Hearts of Oak seek to address lingering administrative challenges, with Emunah expected to spearhead improvements in governance and operational efficiency at the storied Accra-based club.

Recent reports alleged that the Ghana Premier League giants owe GH¢11,000 for matches and training sessions at the facility between 2016 and 2018.

The reports further suggested Hearts of Oak would be denied access to the stadium for their Matchday 19 clash against Dreams FC on Friday unless the amount is paid.

Reacting to the claims on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo maintained that the club has fully settled all financial obligations to the university.

“The claimed debt by UG Sports Stadium is about GHS11,000 for matches and training from 2016 to 2018, even though we had left halfway through the season,” he said. 

“Our records, confirmed by our then club accountant Hon. Hackman Seidu, show that all payments to UG Sports Stadium have been settled.”

He added that Hearts of Oak remains open to resolving the matter, provided credible evidence is presented.

“If the University of Ghana has a claim, they should provide proof, and we will settle it if verified,” he added.

Opare Addo expressed confidence that discussions with UG authorities will lead to a resolution, allowing the fixture against Dreams FC to be played at the Legon venue.

“Our game against Dreams FC will definitely be reconsidered to take place at the University of Ghana. That’s our venue, we can’t keep switching venues,” he added. 

The Matchday 19 encounter is scheduled to kick off at 15:30 GMT on Friday.

The Ghana Premier League side is currently barred from registering or selling players after failing to settle unpaid wages owed to former technical director Rene Hiddink.

The Dutch coach, who joined the Phobians in 2023 but left after eight months, dragged the club to FIFA over what he described as an unfair termination of his contract.

FIFA subsequently ruled in Hiddink’s favour, ordering Hearts of Oak to pay $150,000 within 90 days. The club’s failure to comply with the directive has resulted in a transfer ban spanning the next three transfer windows.
