The Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Geoffrey Kini, has clarified that the ongoing conflict in the area is rooted in tribal differences, not politics.

His comments come amid escalating tensions that have disrupted lives and displaced hundreds in the municipality.

In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Kini stressed that the crisis should not be misconstrued as a political struggle.

“This is not about politics; it is about tribal affiliations and historical grievances that have resurfaced,” he explained.

He urged both local and national leaders to focus on reconciliation rather than political division and called for inclusive dialogue among all stakeholders to ensure lasting peace.

As part of relief efforts, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has donated food items to those affected by the conflict. So far, over 1,900 residents have been displaced.

Mr. Kini expressed appreciation for NADMO’s swift response and emphasized the importance of community support.

The Municipal Chief Executive also joined in the call for calm, urging residents to prioritise peace and unity.

“We need to foster dialogue and understanding to prevent further escalation of this conflict,” the MCE added.
