In an interview with Adom News, MP Kini criticized ECG for its failure to effectively manage power distribution, which has led to widespread frustration, especially among constituents who rely on consistent electricity for their businesses and livelihoods.

He accused the company of potentially sabotaging the government’s energy sector initiatives through its inefficiency.

Kini called on ECG to take immediate action, urging the company to prioritize infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.

He also called for greater transparency in ECG’s operations and improved communication with the public regarding the causes of the outages.

“The people of Nkwanta South deserve better,” Kini said, emphasizing that ECG’s inefficiencies could undermine public trust in the government’s efforts to resolve the crisis.

On behalf of Adele, Challa Akyode, and the Muslim community, Alhaji Kayaba Ibrahim, Nkwanta Zongo chief, expressed their appreciation for the timely assistance, which has provided a glimmer of hope amid the uncertainty.

He pleaded with other faction groups to drop their arms and give peace a chance for development.

The Zongo chief also noted that the protracted conflict is adversely affecting the community, emphasizing the need for joint collaboration to bring the area back to normalcy for business activities to thrive.

According to them, Mr. Kini, who hails from the inland region, has a deep understanding of inland fisheries and the opportunities in the fishing industry.

Speaking with Adom News at Dambai, the General Secretary, John Agbeti, said the move would promote the development of the inland fisheries sector and address the unique challenges facing the fishermen.

He argued that the Nkwanta South MP’s appointment could lead to more effective policies that support sustainable fishing practices and improve the livelihoods of those who depend on the vital industry.

The President of the Inland Fisheries, Daniel Akpaglo Nyameko, added that Mr. Kini’s appointment would not only enhance the representation of inland fishermen at the national level but also foster collaboration between the government and local fishing communities.

He also echoed the MP’s deep understanding of inland fisheries, noting that his appointment would provide much-needed voices for the sector.

Torgbui Dordoe, leader of the Inland Chief Fishermen, said the Oti Region is blessed to have several water bodies, including the Volta Lake, which provides livelihoods for thousands of fishermen.

However, the region’s fisheries industry faces numerous challenges.

Torgbui Dordoe believes that the appointment of a deputy minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development from the region would be a significant step toward addressing these challenges.

The principal streets of the municipality were awash with NDC colours, signaling the party’s readiness to champion change.

Addressing the crowd, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, Geoffrey Kini, urged Ghanaians to actively participate in the elections, dismissing voter apathy over unfulfilled promises by previous governments, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He encouraged the electorate to stay hopeful and vote in large numbers on Saturday.

Party members also shared compelling reasons for the need for change, advocating for the return of the NDC and John Dramani Mahama to address the prevailing economic challenges and bring relief to Ghanaians.

In a short ceremony at the Municipal Education Office, Mr. Kini emphasized the importance of education in the development of the constituency and expressed his commitment to supporting initiatives that will improve educational standards.

He noted that the donation of the motorbikes comes at a crucial time when the GES is striving to improve educational outcomes in the municipality.

In addition to the motorbikes, the MP has also pledged significant contributions, including the construction of pavilions in various communities to create conducive learning environments for students.

Mr. Kini urged the directorate to take proper care of the items received to improve the standard of education in the municipality.

Receiving the motorbikes, the GES Director, Jonathan Korsinah, expressed gratitude for the generous donation.

He highlighted that the motorbikes would significantly enhance the mobility of education officers, allowing them to conduct regular visits to schools, monitor teaching and learning processes, and provide timely support to educators.

Mr. Korsinah also noted that the support from the MP is unmatched, and with the motorbikes, it will ensure that no school is left behind in the quest for quality education.

He was speaking to members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) where he emphasized the enduring popularity of Mahama among electorates.

The Nkwanta South MP pointed out that, the rising cost of living, coupled with rampant corruption, has left citizens yearning for effective leadership.

Mr Kini stated that, the mismanagement of resources and lack of accountability have exacerbated the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.

He argued that the former president’s track record and commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians resonate deeply with the populace, making him a preferred choice regardless of the duration of his potential presidency.

The NPP (New Patriotic Party) has been vocal in its criticism of Mahama, claiming that he has had his chance to lead the country for four years and failed to deliver and only coming back for four year.

However, Geoffrey Kini has urged party members to remain steadfast in their support for Mahama, highlighting the need for unity and resilience in the face of opposition.

He believes that the NDC’s message of hope and progress will prevail, and that Ghanaians are ready for a change in leadership.

The MP therefore advised Ghanaians not to be influence by money and last minute road equipment purchased by the NPP for votes.

He has emphasised the need for members to go beyond rallies and social media to meet constituents where they are, in their homes, and discuss the issues that matter most to them.

This appeal came when the MP submitted his nomination forms to the Electoral Commission(EC), signaling his commitment to seek re-election on December 7.

Mr Kini expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration, stating that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to deliver on its promises to the people of Ghana.

He highlighted various issues, including economic hardships, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure, which he believes have adversely affected the lives of constituents in Nkwanta South.

“The NPP has had its chance, and the results are clear. Our people are struggling, and it is our duty to ensure that they understand the importance of their vote,” he stated.

He stated that a door-to-door campaign would allow party members to engage directly with voters, listen to their concerns, and communicate the party’s vision for a better future.

The MP urged his supporters to be proactive and dedicated in their outreach efforts, reminding them that personal connections can significantly influence voter decisions.

Speaking to Adom News, the Regional NDC Women’s Organiser, Paulina Magyam also urged party members to leverage this sentiment by presenting a united front and a clear alternative to the NPP’s governance.

She highlighted the significance of voter education, encouraging party members to inform the electorate about the voting process and the importance of their participation to vote out the incompetent NPP party on the December 7.

Meanwhile, some NDC members admitted that the door-door strategy will help garner more votes for the December general elections.

Mr Kini donated over 2,000 school bags and exercise books, urging candidates to take the exams seriously as it is the only opportunity that can guarantee their steps into Senior High School (SHS).

He urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to take action to address the problems of teenage pregnancies in the area.

Over 10 nursing mothers and pregnant girls are part of 1,901 candidates writing this year’s BECE.

According to Kini, the high rate of teenage pregnancies in Nkwanta South is a major concern that needs to be addressed urgently.

He emphasised the importance of educating young people about the risks and consequences of early pregnancy, as well as the importance of providing them with access to reproductive health services and information.

The MP called on parents to take a more active role in monitoring and guiding their children, especially during the crucial teenage years.

He stressed the need for open communication between parents and their children, as well as the importance of teaching young people about responsible sexual behaviour.

According to him, the computers donated will not only benefit the students of Ntruboman SHS, but will also have a positive impact on the entire school community.

He said with access to modern technology, students will be able to enhance their learning experience, develop essential digital skills, and prepare themselves for the challenges of the 21st century.

The donation is part of the MP’s commitment to supporting education and empowering young people in his constituency.

He has been a strong advocate for improving educational opportunities for students in Nkwanta South, and has consistently worked towards providing them with the resources they need to succeed.

The gesture of donating computers to the school was met with gratitude and appreciation from the school authorities, students.

The headmaster of the school Charles Nyame Kormisah, have expressed their thanks to the MP for his generosity and for recognizing the importance of ICT in education.

He said the donation of computers to Ntruboman SHS is a step in the right direction towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that all students have access to the tools they need to thrive in the digital age.

The headmaster added that it is a testament to the commitment of the MP to the development of education in Nkwanta South and his dedication to empowering young people to reach their full potential

However,some students speaking in an interview with Adom news Obrempongba Owusu commended the MP for the initiative,saying that it will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the learning experience of ICT in the school.

The students said it is a shining example of how public officials can make a difference in the lives of young people by investing in their education and providing them with the resources they need to succeed.

They appealed to the MP and the government to provide the school with a library facilities and other infrastructures to promote quality teaching and learning.

Geoffrey Kini who served the Nkwanta South Constituency passed on on Wednesday, September 8.

He died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra to an undisclosed ailment.

A close family member, Bright Nkease, confirmed the news of his death to party executives.

The late Hon. Gershon Gbediame held the position as an MP for 10 years; from 1996 to 2016.

He was also the Majority Chief Whip in the 6th Parliament of the 4th Republic.

The late MP was a selfless, committed and hardworking man who has contributed his bit towards the development of his constituency during his tenure as MP.
