In a statement, Mr Otchere-Darko questioned the hypocrisy of the NDC, accusing them of failing to present credible evidence to back their claims.

Responding to the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s ruling that exonerated Mahama in the Airbus case, he challenged the opposition to compare any of their allegations against the NPP to the extensive evidence and admissions of guilt in the Airbus scandal.

“But what’s interesting is this: Let’s dare the opposition and their ‘squeaky clean’ leader to name one clear case (not mere allegation) against Akufo-Addo, his family members, or appointees that come anywhere remotely close to this Airbus case and its volumes of findings by investigators and admissions of guilt by the bribe giver. Let them put the Airbus case side by side with any of the charges they continue to lay at the NPP’s doorstep,” Otchere-Darko posted on X on Friday, August 9.

He also accused the NDC of relying on a book of fiction, “Agyapadie,” as their main source of evidence to argue that Ghanaians are suffering more under Akufo-Addo’s leadership than they did during Mahama’s administration.

He claims it is part of a broader strategy to discredit the NPP ahead of the 2024 elections.

“Yet, so desperate are they that they (led by JM himself) are eager to rely confidently & unashamedly on a book of fiction as their main dossier of evidence & to use same to draw links and conclusions from other instances to show that what Ghanaians are enduring today is worse than what they did see under Mahama’s NDC; never mind the tons of evidence of real developments and spendings that have gone directly into the welfare and wellbeing of families and communities across the country.”

He criticised the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, who he described as the “chief propagandist,” for hailing his boss, Mahama, after the OSP’s ruling.

“Today that same propaganda chief is leading his party triumphantly (with support from the media), hailing his boss, the opposition leader and former president, as being ‘squeaky clean!’ Why?”

“The hypocrisy of partisan politics is indeed most interesting. Just a few days ago a senior opposition party official in Ghana held a press conference to condemn a relative of the vice president, who is a businessman, for his company allegedly benefiting from a public contract properly awarded. A week earlier it was about a former boyfriend (and “baby father”) of a daughter of the president and a contract for spare parts where no bribery allegation is said to be involved. Today that same propaganda chief is leading his party triumphantly (with support from the media), hailing his boss, the opposition leader and former president, as being “squeaky clean!” Why?

The former president and the NDC presidential candidate for 2024 has been CLEARED of that major bribery charge that had hanged around his neck for 4yrs! Details are that reputable investigative institutions in UK, US and France have done thorough investigations which all implicated that Ghanaian leader and his brother in an indictment where the bribe giver (Airbus) admitted guilt and paid millions in fines (but not to Ghana).

Airbus admits to paying bribes which allegedly went to Ghanaian Govt officials. Emails and other facts in the public domain point to the unusual involvement of the “Government Official 1” as the main champion of the deal in the entire transaction from the onset (even promising more) and how his brother was later brought on board as agent for the company that admits to paying bribes. Today his party and its leadership are understandably mightily relieved and happy because investigators in Ghana say they found no evidence against the leader and his brother the agent. One can only be happy for them! They now point to how an “innocent” interest in a transaction can be so mischievously misconstrued even by reputable investigators as dodgy.

Thank God for Akufo-Addo’s meticulous OSP. Anaa? And, yet, that same party, the NDC, and that same leader, John Mahama, have made allegations of corruption against the current president, his family, friends and appointees their main campaign message; even to the point of using a patently fake document (not reports of reputable investigators) against the current president and his royal family to drive home the point.

But, this is what is interesting though! Let us dare the opposition and their “squeaky clean” leader to name one clear case (not mere allegation) against Akufo-Addo, his family members or appointees that come anywhere remotely close to this Airbus case and its volumes of findings by investigators and admissions of guilt by the bribe giver. Let them put the Airbus case side by side to any of the charges they continue to lay on NPP’s doorsteps.

Yet, so desperate are they that they (led by JM himself) are eager to rely confidently & unashamedly on a book of fiction as their main dossier of evidence & to use same to draw links and conclusions from other instances to show that what Ghanaians are enduring today is worse than what they did see under Mahama’s NDC; never mind the tons of evidence of real developments and spendings that have gone directly into the welfare and wellbeing of families and communities across the country.

As we speak, there is another case in the US involving a senior staff of an international bank who was allegedly compelled to pay bribes in order to secure a take-or-pay power contract for a Turkish company under John Mahama. Remember the billions of dollars Ghanaian taxpayers have paid for those take-or-pay deals over the last 7 or so years? Ghana is, indeed, an interesting country.

But, I am truly happy for John Mahama and his family and his party, it must have been 4yrs of utter agony having such a case of huge international proportions hanging around his neck. It couldn’t have been easy! Still, Africa shall continue to rise and rise we shall! Let the torch of transparency and the scrutiny of civil society & the media continue to shine on us all for the Africa we want and deserve!

Stop Gabby from installing ‘foreigner’ as Chief – Okyehene, IGP told https://www.adomonline.com/stop-gabby-from-installing-foreigner-as-chief-okyehene-igp-told/ Mon, 13 Mar 2023 16:24:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2227327 Felicia Ama Otiwaa, the Obaapanin of Akakom Traditional Area in the Eastern Region has appealed to the Okyehene and the IGP to stop Gabby Asare Otchere Darko and the queen mother of the area from installing a new chief.

The Obaapanin says as custom demands, the area can only have a new Chief when the funeral of the late one is done.

Addressing a press conference today at Akakom, the Obaapanin of the area said the information she has is that Gabby Otchere Darko and the Queen plan to install someone they have chosen to be the next Chief tomorrow morning in the community.

“As it stands now discussion for a new Chief has been inconclusive and no one has the right to install a new Chief until we finish the funeral of the late Chief and discuss with the  Oyoko family who is next in line so anyone who tries to do any installation is only a criminal and enemy of the community”, the Obaapanin stated.

Court Injunction:

On his part, an elder and royal of the town, Opanin Alex Adutwum revealed that the Koforidua High Court has placed an injunction on any installation of a Chief in Akakom.

The court, he noted in the injunction of last week wants the traditional area to use laid-down procedures to select a replacement after it has finished with the funeral of the late Chief.

Any attempt as they have heard, the elder said would be an act of illegality in Akakom and a potential cause for bloodshed and mayhem.

“We have heard that Gabby Asare Otchere Darko wants his brother who we see as a foreigner to be the next Chief of Akakom and has succeeded in lobbying the queen mother to align with him to do so but that would be an attempt to unleash bloodshed in the area”, the elder noted.

Appeal

Meanwhile, the town folks in Akakom have planned to confront any group or persons who would seek to carry out any installation in the community tomorrow.

They have however served notice to Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-Panin, the Okyehene to intervene to halt possible bloodshed in the community.

Similarly, they have served notice to the Kwabeng District Police Commander who is also aware of the court injunction to use legitimate means to prevent any planned installation from coming off tomorrow.

They contend that the Akakom Traditional area has remained a peaceful community until the simmering tension which has been engineered by Gabby Otchere Darko, who they claim is using governmental power and money to influence who becomes the next Chief of Akakom.

Otchere Darko proposes Sam George as NDC next presidential candidate https://www.adomonline.com/otchere-darko-proposes-sam-george-as-ndc-next-presidential-candidate/ Mon, 11 Oct 2021 08:36:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2026558 Founder of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Otchere Darko is advocating for the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, Sam George to be the next presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This comes on the back of the latter’s interview with CNN on a bill he’s leading in Ghana’s parliament to criminalise the activities of homosexuals.

His interview warmed the hearts of many Ghanaians who could not help but take to social media to shower praises on him.

The latest to have joined the bandwagon of administrators is Mr Otchere Darko.

In the view of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, the MP will make a fantastic candidate if politics were about popularity and popularism.

He made the remarks in a tweet, stating it was fantastic news for the NDC.

He wrote: If Politics is all about populism & popularity, then I have fantastic news for the NDC: they have found their next presidential candidate and he is the MP for Ningo Prampram Sam George.

The private members’ bill, which is in the pipeline is proposing a custodial sentence for offenders, including promoters of any sexuality that falls within the LGBTQI+ spectrum other than between a man and a woman.

The legislators promoting the bill, on June 29, 2021, submitted a copy of the draft to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

It among other things says people of the same sex who engage in sexual intercourse are “liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than seven hundred and fifty penalty units and not more than five thousand penalty units, or to a term of imprisonment of not less than three years and not more than five years or both.”

Mr George who is one of eight legislators sponsoring the bill has argued they are only offering protection and support to the vulnerable and economically disadvantaged for victims of homosexuality.

Agyapa deal: New twist involving Akufo-Addo, Ken Ofori-Atta and Gabby Otchere-Darko https://www.adomonline.com/agyapa-deal-new-twist-involving-akufo-addo-ken-ofori-atta-and-gabby-otchere-darko/ Wed, 04 Nov 2020 11:08:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1876344 The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has filed a petition with the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) against President Nana Akufo-Addo, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and Gabby Otchere-Darko of Africa Legal and Associates over the Agyapa deal.

The Executive Director of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson, in the petition on Tuesday, noted that following the revelations in the Special Prosecutor’s Corruption Risk Assessment report on the Agyapa Minerals Royalties deal, the respondents need to be held accountable.

Mr Thompson noted that Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, demonstrated “incompetence” when his outfit referred the report on the Corruption Risk Assessment Report to the President after his findings.

According to ASEPA, although the Office of the Special Prosecutor has the mandate to investigate and prosecute the issues raised in its report, it rather forwarded its findings to the President.

“It is on this note that ASEPA has taken the pain to petition CHRAJ which is also seized with enough powers to investigate these issues to commence full-scale investigations into the Agyapa Deal using the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Corruption Risk Assessment Report as a lead,” he stated.

Background

The Agyapa Deal, which is said to be in line with the Minerals Income Investment Fund Act 2018 (Act 978), was passed by Parliament on August 14, 2020.

The new agreement will enable the country to use a Special Purpose Vehicle, Agyapa Royalties Limited, to secure about $1 billion to finance large infrastructural projects.

The transaction has, however, been met with stiff opposition from members of the National Democratic Congress, some civil society organisations and a cross-section of Ghanaians.

Subsequently, the Office of the Special Prosecutor advised the government to pull the brakes on its planned launch of an Initial Public Offer regarding the Agyapa Royalties agreement.

According to Mr Amidu, the move was to allow his outfit the opportunity to conclude its ongoing corruption risk assessment.

After submitting the report to the Presidency on October 15, President Akufo-Addo instructed the Finance Minister to send the deal back to Parliament for further scrutiny.
