Empowering girls, including all: Here for Her Foundation GH launches inclusive menstrual health project https://www.adomonline.com/empowering-girls-including-all-here-for-her-foundation-gh-launches-inclusive-menstrual-health-project/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 20:48:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2546995 In a powerful step towards menstrual equity in Ghana, the Here for Her Foundation GH has launched a groundbreaking inclusive project targeting girls living with various forms of disabilities.

Dubbed “This-abilities,” the initiative was unveiled on 18th June 2025 as the first of its kind in Ghana to focus specifically on the menstrual health needs of girls with disabilities.

For the past four years, Here for Her Foundation GH has been at the forefront of combating period poverty, reaching over 25 schools across the Volta and Eastern Regions of Ghana, including rural and under-resourced communities in the North Dayi, Akuapem North, South Dayi, Adaklu, Asene Manso Akroso Municipal and District Assemblies.

Through a combination of menstrual health and hygiene education, advocacy on reproductive rights and tax removal on sanitary products, and the distribution of sustainable items like reusable pad kits and menstrual cups, the Foundation has empowered thousands of girls and women to manage their periods with dignity.

The Foundation’s core mission is to provide young girls and women in Ghana with the knowledge and resources to confidently manage their menstrual health.

Its vision is simple but profound: a Ghana where no girl is held back from school, work, or life simply because of her period — regardless of her physical ability or socio-economic background.

The maiden inclusive project forms part of a broader campaign named EQUI FLOW, which seeks to close the menstrual health gap for all — especially those living with disabilities. The Foundation is partnering with key institutions such as the Volta School for the Deaf and Blind to ensure this landmark initiative is holistic, accessible, and sustainable.

Beyond this, the Foundation is rolling out two other impactful campaigns:

  • BREAKING THE TIDE: Focused on the coastal areas of the Central Region, this campaign will target communities most affected by period poverty.

  • SHE – Schools, Health, and Empowerment: A continuous community outreach effort in Eastern and Oti Region schools, aiming to educate and empower schoolgirls on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health.

Key project activities will include:

  • Stakeholder sensitization and community mobilization

  • Inclusive workshops and training sessions

  • Distribution of menstrual products

  • Monitoring and evaluation to track impact and ensure sustainability

As Here for Her Foundation GH expands its reach and deepens its impact, it is open to partnerships and sponsorships from individuals, organizations, and institutions that share in the vision of menstrual justice and inclusivity.

Bill Gates and Melinda reunite a year after divorce https://www.adomonline.com/bill-gates-and-melinda-reunite-a-year-after-divorce/ Fri, 23 Sep 2022 16:01:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2165368
Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates remain committed to working together to make a difference.

The billionaire philanthropists, who finalised their divorce in August 2021 after 27 years of marriage, have repeatedly spoken about their continued working relationship through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which they started in 2000. And this week, the pair showed a united front while attending the foundation’s 2022 Goalkeepers event.

The annual gathering, which celebrates leaders who are working to advance sustainable global goals, was held in person in New York City on Tuesday and Wednesday after a two-year hiatus.

Just one day before the start of the annual event, Melinda shared that she remained “completely committed” to working alongside her ex-husband.

“We met for the first time with our board of trustees last week in person,” Melinda, 58, said during an interview with Bloomberg. “What I think they would all tell you is that Bill and Melinda remain completely committed to this institution and to working effectively together. And that’s what we’re doing today.”

The Microsoft co-founder, 66, and the global advocate for women and girls both attended the Goalkeepers 2022 Global Goals Awards, posing for photos with a number of world leaders — including the four winners: Radhika Batra, co-founder of the nonprofit organisation Every Infant Matters; Zahra Joya, a journalist whose self-funded news agency covers issues affecting women in Afghanistan; Vanessa Nakate, a climate justice activist; and Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission.
