He said President Akufo-Addo has signed an executive notice for the name to remain Jubilee House.
“The President has signed an executive order to that effect, which has been gazetted and so Jubilee House will now be the official name of the seat of government,” he continued.
Mr Arhin said the change is an affirmation of the decision of former president John Agyekum Kufuor and that although the John Atta Mills administration renamed it Flagstaff House, there is no record anywhere indicating the change of name.
“There is no record anywhere that Jubilee House was renamed Flagstaff House. So the president as a result of Article 58 of the constitution and the power vested in him by that article has named the Flagstaff House as Jubilee House,” he said.
Mr Arhin, however, denied the renaming was planned to coincide with the president’s birthday, he says ” it is purely coincidental.”

The suspect, identified as Nii Afade, is said to have defrauded people on the pretext of helping them buy auctioned vehicles at the Flagstaff House, the seat of government, or secure accommodation in some parts of Accra.
Briefing the media in Accra on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Effia Tenge, said two of Afade’s victims claimed he had defrauded them to the tune of GH¢12,600.
To create the impression that he was an official of the Flagstaff House, Afade is said to have been driving his victims to the precincts of the Presidency.
Agent
According to the police, one of the victims claimed he had been looking for accommodation and was contacted by Afade, who posed as an estate agent who could help the victim secure a place.
Afade is said to have led the victim to Dansoman to meet a woman, identified as Salomey Morley, who posed as the landlady of a house and collected GH¢7,200 as two years’ rent.
The victim also paid an agent fee of GH¢400 to Afade, but after two days when he returned with his wife for the key to the room, they found out that they had been swindled.

The case was reported to the Dansoman Police, leading to Afade’s arrest.

Mrs Tenge said while Afade was in police custody, another victim identified him as the man who had collected GH¢5,000 from him in a bid to help him buy three vehicles which were being auctioned at the Flagstaff House.

HOT VIDEO: I know homosexuals at the Flagstaff House – Nii Lante Vandepuye https://www.adomonline.com/know-homosexuals-flagstaff-house-nii-lante-vandepuye/ https://www.adomonline.com/know-homosexuals-flagstaff-house-nii-lante-vandepuye/#comments Tue, 28 Nov 2017 10:01:46 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=712261 Former Minister of Sports, Nii Lante Vandepuye has alleged there are homosexuals at the Flagstaff House.
Though he did not mention names, he vowed on JoyNews’ AM Show Tuesday to expose them if pushed to the wall
The former Sports Minister made the comment while reacting to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo statement that Ghana’s status of gays in the country could change if there is a groundswell of pressure for that to be done
In an interview with Al Jazeera Jane Dutton on Talk, he indicated that, legalization of homosexuality is not on his government’s agenda.
“At the moment, I don’t feel, I don’t see that in Ghana there is that strong current of opinion that is saying this is something we need to deal with. It is not so far a matter that is on the agenda,” President Akufo-Addo said.
Pressure groups, religious organizations and political opponents have taken issues with the president over his comments.
This triggered a response from government through Minister of Information; Mustapha Hamid who stressed that government says it has no intention to legalize same-sex relationship.
He told Joy News Monday homosexuality continues to be unacceptable because there is no “cultural orientation” that supports it in Ghana.
But Nii Lante Vandepuye who is also the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo constituency said he is not surprised about President Akufo-Addo’s position on homosexuality.
This, he explained is because there are people at his backyard engaging in the abominable act.
Nii Lante Vandepuye said he has no apologies for indicting the Flagstaff House because he has his prove.

Ken Agyapong’s Flagstaff House bribery allegation damming – GII https://www.adomonline.com/ken-agyapongs-flagstaff-house-bribery-allegation-damming-gii/ Mon, 28 Aug 2017 08:18:59 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=437811 Ghana Integrity Initiative is calling for immediate investigations into the bribery allegations being leveled against presidential staffers at the Flagstaff House.
According to the Executive Director of GII, Linda Ofori-Kwafo, such allegations if swept under the carpet could affect President Akufo-Addo’s resolve to root out corruption in the country.
Her comment comes after the outspoken Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyepong, claimed a presidential staffer demanded $20, 000 from an unnamed investor just to see President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
On Accra-based Oman FM’s Boiling Point program on Thursday, Mr. Agyepong said though the president is unaware of such happenings in his office, some of those around him are busy using their presence to extort monies from people who want to invest in the economy.
This issue has become murkier after musician and sympathizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) also accused two deputy Chief of Staff of being corruption.
These exposé according to the many including the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) vindicates their claim that the Flagstaff House is now the headquarters of corruption.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Linda Ofori-Kwafo said such serious allegation if not investigated will be an indictment on the Akufo-Addo government.
She indicated that, a president who has vowed to fight corruption must start it from his own backyard.
“These allegations are very serious because it is coming from members of the NPP so if must be investigated” she added.
The GII boss noted the Assin MP should as a matter of urgency be invited to back his allegation with prove to bring the culprits to book.
Until that is done, Mrs. Ofori-Kwafo said allegations of bribery at the Flagstaff House will remain an albatross around the neck of government.

Chaos at Flagstaff House over EC boss saga https://www.adomonline.com/chaos-flagstaff-house-ec-boss-saga/ Mon, 24 Jul 2017 11:10:46 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=324721 Today can report that it has not been easy for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) since some faceless staff of the Electoral Commission (EC) last week petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to impeach the Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.
The ongoing impasse at the EC, ostensibly between the EC boss and her two deputies, Today gathered, was seriously tearing apart the seat of government, the Flagstaff House.
While some presidential staffers, including some national and regional party executives, believe that it is payback time to see to the removal of the embattled EC boos, our investigations show that others think otherwise.
Allegations raised in the said petition range from questions about the EC boss managerial competence, political neutrality and what the staff say were breaches of contracts and the public procurement act.
The petition, which was sent to President Akufo-Addo last week, requires him by law to forward it to the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, for a determination to be made on the matter.
And if the CJ establishes a prima facie case on the matter, she is bound by law to set up a five-member committee to probe into the matter which could lead to the impeachment of the EC chair.
But those in the NPP who are against the impeachment move, Today gathered, believe that it will give the ruling government a bad name, hence the need for the President to tread cautiously in dealing with the issue.
Today further gathered that the group had subsequently sent a counter petition to President Akufo-Addo not bow to the whims and caprices of some selfish individuals at the EC’s head office in Accra to do the “unthinkable.”
“What will our main rivals, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), say when we trigger the impeachment process,” two presidential staffers who pleaded to speak on condition of anonymity told Today at the weekend.
“Already they (the NDC) have alleged that we are behind the whole matter, and we must not fall for their pranks,” they cautioned.
Also, a suspended founder member of the NPP, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby, last week called on President Akufo-Addo to throw away the petition, warning him to be mindful of its negative implications on the country’s democracy.
However, according to some members of the NPP, the law must be allowed to work.
They argued that nobody, including Mrs. Charlotte Osei, was above the laws of this country, and therefore she must face the law like any other person.
Describing the impeachment petition as a “litmus test” for President Akufo-Addo to prove to the world that he is a true democrat, and a respecter of rule of law, those for the impeachment blamed the EC boss for what is happening at the electoral management body.
Speaking on News File on Joy FM in Accra at the weekend, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. O.B. Amoah, said the EC chairperson risks proceeding on leave if the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) begins investigations into the 28-point petition demanding her impeachment.
He said EOCO might approach the petition in the same way it is handling a separate case involving two other officials of the EC.
His position on the matter was endorsed by another stalwart of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, a former lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, increasing the pressure on President Akufo-Addo to kick-start the impeachment process.
Another member of the NPP who is one of the party’s communicators in the Ashanti Region has also joined the impeachment chorus of Mrs. Charlotte Osei.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo must not waste time in cracking the whip if the chairperson of EC is found culpable of the allegations levelled against her by the so-called concerned staff of the commission.
“Treat her same as former President John Dramani Mahama treated the former boss of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Madam Lauretta Lamptey,” Kwaku Ntim Twumasi admonished.
“The EC chair like Madam Lauretta Lamptey is not above the law therefore we expect the President to act according to the law if found culpable,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Charlotte Osei has responded to all the 28 allegations levelled against her in the petition, describing them as baseless and unfounded.

I personally invited Radio Gold – Mustapha Hamid https://www.adomonline.com/personally-invited-radio-gold-mustapha-hamid/ Wed, 19 Jul 2017 15:54:17 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=311901 Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid has dispelled rumours that they deliberately did not invite pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) radio station, Radio Gold from the maiden Presidential media encounter at the Flagstaff House.
According to him, as the coordinator of the event, he personally invited journalists from the Laterbiokorshie -based radio station.
Mustapha Hamid’s explanation comes after many questioned the exclusion of the pro-NDC radio station.
They could not fathom why under the administration of a President who championed media freedom would exclude a radio station seen to be anti-government.
But the Information Minister on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday said they can’t be blamed if journalists from Radio Gold were not present.
“It’s not true that we did not invite them, I ordered my deputy and personal assistant to call them. We spoke to a gentleman called Alfred; I personally spoke to him and gave him a special invitation to come to the event,” he stated.
Mustapha Hamid revealed that, later Alfred said he got the invitation late hence their inability to attend the event.
“Alfred later told me they could not attend because they received the invitation late so l apologize for that” he stressed.
Going forward, Mr. Hamid said they would ensure majority of media houses across the country are invited and given ample time to ask President Akufo-Addo questions.

I was ‘assaulted’ at Flagstaff House – Rachel Appoh https://www.adomonline.com/assaulted-flagstaff-house-rachel-appoh/ Sat, 01 Apr 2017 08:28:22 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=57031 Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Rachel Appoh, has accused some National Security operatives and three women at the Flagstaff House of assaulting her.

According to her, she visited the seat of government hoping to address some issues regarding her ex gratia package, when she was verbally assaulted and even pushed around by some irate National Security operatives.

Narrating the incident, the former MP said : “I was following up on my ex gratia so I went to Flagstaff House and I was directed by the Ministry of Finance to go to the Chief of Staff’s office so I wrote a letter and sent it to the Chief of staff’s office. I was there and I realized that three women were verbally assaulting my secretary all because she had the NDC rubber band on her wrist… I later entered and I heard them say ‘This is Rachel Appoh’ and immediately they heard I am Rachel Appoh, they started verbally assaulting me. They were pushing me and someone held my right hand and was like ‘walk out , walk out this is not party office’.”

“One of the women, Aunty Naomi, asked me to leave the country if I can’t stay, and I told them I am not leaving the country today or tomorrow,” she added.

Ms Appoh claimed further that the women attacked her for insulting the President.

She however denied claims she had insulted the President, saying she had a very good relationship with the latter.

“The President came to my constituency two months to election. When people were greeting the President, he was seated, but when he got there he hugged me. I want to tell every NPP person that they do not know Nana Addo more than me. “

Her allegation comes in the wake of several attacks believed to have been orchestrated by groups affiliated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The most recent involved one ASP Nanka-Bruce, who served at the Flagstaff House under the past National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, who was assaulted by men believed to members of the NPP vigilante group, Invisible Forces.
